There are some places that Alys avoided, the stakes are too high. Remembering brought another round of turmoil. Her memories of Harrenhal and its aftermath were inconsequential now, more trivial. She attained a content life on this island, it wasn't fair but she learned that early enough. A causality of her own making stands before her. The woman has never strayed far from her thoughts but how could she form an explanation?

" I haven't seen you in awhile. " she stated, taking in the other with a melancholy sigh. " I was beginning to think you were avoiding me. " using a jape to conceal her own avoidance.

An underrated benefit of love triangles is that they allow you to have a love story where the ending isn't immediately obvious. In your standard romance, the two leads meet, and then it's just a matter of time until they hit the plot beats that lead to the happily ever after. But the love triangle gives you two plotlines! Two different dynamics! Two valid directions for the plot to veer that will still lead to a romantic happy ending without that ending being a foregone conclusion.

The main character can grow and change in multiple different ways because there are two men on equal standing with her, who can have an influence on her in different ways, giving her multiple different lenses to help her understand who she is and who she really wants to be. When it's done right, the story will be satisfying no matter what the endgame is, because the point is going along on the journey and seeing who the characters become. And the great thing is that you don't know who they'll become because there are two valid options, so the entire story can be surprising, which is so refreshing when so many love stories are so predictable.

Another prison, though at least this one wasn't her own fault for being tricked. Small silver linings she supposed. Una was just worried about the fact she hadn't yet located anyone from home. Tristan... after all this time, and she'd been separated from her son again. Still, she had also heard of stories of people who'd crossed over coming back, and there was a fair few she hoped never to encounted again, Sal being the top of that list.

Hearing the footsteps she smiled softly, well no time to think about those worries. "They're snowdrops. Some say they bring you luck" she said, gently touching the petal, that and a whole bank of them. "These ones I think are just regular snowdrops though, powerless but beautiful" and after all, would any of them have survived if not for a simple snowdrop before.

litany stutters to a halt — reasons all that this cannot possibly work.  he'd been silent through half a dozen others,  each the height of rational,  and something about that silence left her anxious,  unwilling to stop speaking,  to let the emptiness of that silence stretch.  logic frays as she continues,  and her last excuse is anything but logical:  she does not,  after all,  know how to make anyone like her,  much less...

later,  she'll think that of course this is the one,  of all her points,  that would prompt him to interrupt.  now it only catches her aback,  as if,  having expected him to stop her earlier,  she had ceased to expect interruption at all. 

her first impulse is to argue ( to seek in it some familiar solid ground ),  and her lips part to that end,  indignation roused by the edge of almost-laughter in his voice.  she finds,  however,  that,  fundamentally,  she has no argument.  some of her certainty deflates,  and with it some of the stiffness of her posture.  seconds stretch ( feeling longer than they are ) before she manages,  voice soft,    ❛ you say that as though it is simple. ❜ it is anything but.
