"i don't even know what that means." again, jack was way too simple of a man for her. how was she 'not enough' for him? either she was thinking too deeply into things, or he wasn't thinking enough. normally he would opt for the latter, but perhaps it was a little of both. "love is just some word people say because they can't figure out another way to express really liking a person. it doesn't actually mean anything." he hated the term and all the red tape that came along with it. "i'm not going out and looking for other people to occupy my time, but i didn't think it was a crime to enjoy someone else's company?"
𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐲𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐡 , 𝐚 𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐝 𝐦𝐲𝐭𝐡 if you asked andrea. an illusion , a shimmering mirage in a desert of heartache , and it shouldn't exist if all it did was carve wounds this deep into a soul. " if i wasn't enough for you , you could have told me. " the sound of a heart unraveling thread by thread. it wasn't the first , and deep down , she knew it wouldn't be the last . her father left , why would any man be any different at this point. years of searing trauma had taught her lessons that love never could , etching them into her bones like a cruel tattoo . " it's not ? because it sure does feel like it. you know — maybe i should go out , find someone to occupy my time like you have . " love also made you spiteful .

from the smallest of interactions, jack was somewhat surprised that she still sat across from him. with a smile, he called the waiter over to order her another drink. once his attention was fully back on her, he quirked a brow. "i'm surprised you decided to stick around. i didn't scare you off yet?" he was confident, to the point where he could be called cocky and overall she just appeared to be out of his league.
brow raised as she took in every word that fell from his mouth. she was never one to judge, or at least she did her best not to. the world had become shit before her eyes, so she turned her head to how others dealt with all that life’s bullshit challenges. a small smile threatened her lips, eyes blinked down to glance at her nearly empty glass. “ tequila. on the rocks, preferably. ” she answered before she even gave herself time to think anything through.

"I don't know about that." A brow was arched, a bit of a bemused smile gracing his face. "I bounced back pretty quickly, don't you worry about me." Adjusting in his seat, he rested back while he tipped some more of his beer down his throat. Flashing that grin over his bottle at her, he couldn't help but let out a small laugh. "Asking for a friend, huh? Which friend?" Jack peered around her as if actually expecting someone else to appear, before meeting her gaze again. "You know for someone who bailed on me, you seem to still want more."
Sure, his point was valid. She could have stayed for a quickie in the morning, but then she would have to sacrifice her saturday reformer class and coffee with the girls, which to her was kind of sacred. Getting laid was the least of her problems. "You sound a little upset," Celine hummed, tilting her head to the side and putting up a sympathetic look on her face. She returned the toast out of politeness, having a sip of her rosé. She didn't want to come of as easy, but she also was a bit too obsessed about sex. "What's your opinion on 'quickie before dinner'-sex? Just asking for a friend," she shrugged with a soft chuckle.

"it's not that simple," he argued, not frustrated. jack never paid much mind to the contradictions of the concept of love. there were people that were convinced you could love two people at once, wholeheartedly and then there were others who said if that was the case — neither one was loved enough. he'd never been in love before, period. knowing what it was or what it felt like was difficult enough for him. "i do talk in riddles, but this isn't one of those times."
" because you do this . 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞𝐬 , instead of just telling me the truth. it's a yes or no question. " oh how she wished any of this was all that simple. if it were they wouldn't be here , drowning in the elaborate web of their emotions, foreheads creased like an unread books , and a fire behind her eys . " so again , do you love her ? " she repeated the question , chin tilted this time as she tried to keep the last bit of her confidence intact . "

"best way to learn is getting hurt, or trial by error, right?" he offered. he didn't need to experience it himself to have learned that much at least. considering the lockdown jack had on almost all of his emotions, getting hurt was near impossible for him. "sure, you could say that." the smile remained tight on his lips as he peered over at her. "what are you drinking? i'll get you another?"
──── ❛ i think everyone get scorned at least once in their life . it may hurt a fucking lot , but bound to learn something from it . ❜ she stated with a shrug of her shoulders . a single brow lifted rather quickly as a soft laugh barely passed her sweet petals . ❛ so from what i'm hearing is you are a little ladies man , yeah ? ❜

By no means was Jack offended. He just wasn't used to being the one being left, but he could respect it. He also wasn't offended when she extended her hand to his when they 'met'. Then again, he didn't get bothered by much. He chuckled a bit more as she explained herself, moving to shift into the seat beside her. "I'm just teasing, but sure we can start over." Leaning back, he got comfortable in his seat. "So, how do you know the happy couple? I haven't been around much for the festivities cause I travel a lot."
Crap. Shit. Fuck. Of course that's just how things worked out for her. Of course Giulia would manage to run off on one guy who also happens to be a groomsmen at a wedding she was part of a bridal party. God had a sense of humor and he loves to treat her live like some comedy that only He laughed that. When she saw him she panicked, and acted like she's never met him before because that's what he would want... right? They were already going to spend so much time together, around people they considered friends so why complicate it? She had manage to avoid being alone with him, and she was about to pat herself on the back when he manage to get her alone "Stop okay, I panicked" She explained "I panicked that morning so I ran out and I panicked when were were introduced" It wasn't much of an apology, but she hoped he accepted it. "Any way we can just start over?"

The fact of the matter was, Jack wasn't the nicest guy. The tease came in part from the suggesting that she had done something that bothered him. The reality was that if she hadn't done it to him, he would have done it to her. He had been mildly impressed wit the fact that he'd found a female version of himself — or so he thought. "That's too bad. Sometimes morning sex is better than middle of the night sex. Guess you missed out." Holding up his drink, he tilted it toward her before sipping at it.
Dinner with friends was always something Celine enjoyed, especially because it gave her the opportunity to meet new potential lovers. She rarely ran into old ones. Chuckling up at the male in front of her, she shrugged lightly and put up that famous playful smile of hers. "I'm not a morning sex kind of person. Besides, you looked exhausted so I let you rest." Their encounter that night had been fun and thrilling, but she never imagined seeing him again. However, as he was presented in front of her she was starting to change her mind. He was hotter than she could remember; she blamed the margaritas for that.

"that's probably wise, but also it sounds a little bit like you've been scorned before." in truth, jack doesn't read much into women like this but he couldn't help but mention it. "kind of? they sort of just sit and chat up a conversation with me first."
❛ that might just be by default. ❜ the older femme answered truthfully. a small smile soon brightened her features for a mere second. ──── ❛ are you just use to girls opening up to you right away? ❜

"Embarrassed?" His brows furrowed, mostly striking up the conversation just to poke fun at the situation. He wasn't bothered by her slipping away in the early morning. "Yeah, but still there's no reason to be embarrassed. I was just messing with you." Taking a sip of his beer, he gave her a grin over the rim. "Wait, is this your subtle way of saying you didn't have a good time and you feel bad telling me that?" He offered a laugh.
❝I wouldn't say guilty, actually. Embarrassed would be the word, perhaps❞ she said, turning slowly to the man she'd seen earlier. ❝You can't blame me, I thought it was a one-night thing!❞ she tried to defend herself, her eyes on his. ❝I thought I'd never see you again❞

his eyes lift, watching her as she moves to sit down in front of him. clearly, her guard is up and that's probably not a bad thing. "am i a suspicious looking guy or are you just extra cautious of everyone by default?" an easy chuckle escaped his lips.
" just a couple of drinks & good conversation , huh ? guess that is not too much to ask for . " deciding to take the seat across from the man before offering a small smile .

"you've never trusted a word i've said," whether it was warranted or not was up in the air. "it doesn't matter how i answer that question, you've already made up your mind that i do." maybe he did, but jack wasn't going to own up to something he wasn't even sure of himself.
