O!Ciel, Lizzy, and Sterling Silver Roses

One of my favorite extra chapters in Kuro is the Book of Murder side story, where each of the characters turn into characters from fairy tales. My most favorite part there is obviously Ciel and Lizzy's, which represented The Snow Queen (also my favorite fairy tale). It just fits them so much!

So I was rereading this chapter and noticed the panels below:

In the first one, we see Ciel seemingly giving someone a rose. At the present, we haven't seen any scene similar to this between O!Ciel and Lizzy, but since this is Lizzy's POV and she is talking about the protagonist, I'm assuming this is indeed a memory shared between them (or at least parallel of actual events that happened in their past).

O!Ciel's favorite flower, is coincidentally, sterling silver roses, as mentioned by Sebastian in Ch. 1.

Sterling silver roses are these lovely lavender or lilac-silver roses that represent nobility, elegance, and regality. Since I wanted to see if there would be any relation I could make between this flower and my favorite ship (the way I overthink about these two, really 😭 lol), I tried to look more into what these types of roses represent in a romantic sense.

And well— lavender-colored roses like the sterling silver rose represent love at first sight. They also "signify enchantment, adoration, wonder, and fascination. If you have a secret love, lavender roses can maintain a sense of mystery. The tone is also ideal for the first time you give your love interest flowers."

Giving lilac roses to your special someone, on the other hand, symbolizes your "subtle intentions for them in the future."

Going along with these concepts, and since we were never told of the reason yet why this type of rose was our earl's favorite, my assumption is that the silver sterling rose probably holds a special memory for him in the past. And as the only time we see him with a rose in the manga so far would be that panel from the special chapter (correct me if I'm wrong though), it could be assumed that this memory is something he shares with Lizzy from when they were little—O!Ciel giving her a sterling silver rose. It could be a hint that O!Ciel has liked our sweet Lizzy from the start, and possibly, has wished before that it was he would be betrothed to her instead of R!Ciel (who doesn't really seem that interested in her anyway, he's just happy and relieved she at least is cute and 'not scary'). He doesn't act on it however, as he knows she is never meant to be his.

One thing to note is that, while we have seen from his actions many times that he cares a lot about Lizzy, we are still yet to see O!Ciel actually talk about his true feelings for her. And I believe it's about time l we see just how he thinks of her, from his own POV. I expect that this is something we will finally get to see soon in this arc as one of the layers it touches are the conflicts between O!Ciel and Lizzy, and their relationship.

It's been shown at an earlier part of this arc that O!Ciel distances himself from people he cares about to protect them, and that he is afraid to accept the idea that he deserves love and happiness. I think bringing up this memory with her, and his sterling silver roses would be an emotional way for him to finally face these feelings, and give it a name. To acknowledge that Lizzy is someone that he loves, ever since, and someone he doesn't want to lose.

All of this for now are just my assumptions on what we may see once we finally get the focus back to O!Ciel and Lizzy, but it would be truly interesting to see it unfold, and also a beautiful way to see them acknowledge their feelings for each other when the time comes.

Okay, so I tried made a list of songs which I think would be perfect for them. ♫ These songs are based from both of their POVs, though it may lean more towards Lizzy's.

Each song is arranged according to how O!Ciel and Lizzy's dynamics progressed through the manga. I also included parts of the song lyrics that highlight their relationship well, or those that resonate with important parts in their story. The first few songs are kinda meh but the last ones are sure to hurt like crazy! xD This playlist has 26 songs btw, so prepare your tissues and cry with me!

—A light, almost fairy-tale like opening highlighting Lizzy and her dreams with R!Ciel. Together with O!Ciel, they are three children living in their happy, idyllic childhood.

2. When You're Gone (Avril Lavigne)

— Lizzy's sorrow after the murder of the Phantomhives. She remembers the boy she had sacrificed a lot of things for, the boy who was supposed to be her fairytale ending.

— "Ciel" returns after one month; however, he has now changed. For the sake of the broken boy who returned to her, Lizzy makes another sacrifice, vowing to be a wife that could protect him, and keep him safe.

4. Your Guardian Angel (The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus)

— Despite not wanting to get closer to her initially, O!Ciel finds himself caring for his brother's betrothed. He has protected her time and again, and vows to always protect her at all costs.

"Seasons are changing, and waves are crashing / And stars are falling all for us / Days grow longer and nights grow shorter / I can show you I'll be the one

— A song where Lizzy contemplates on how she keeps up the facade of being cute for her fiancé because of a comment made a long time ago. This song highlights the moment where she decides she is done pretending to be weak and cute.

— The theme for the monumental scene where she drops the act and reveals her strength in the midst of the bizarre dolls. For love, the throws away her beauty. Which only leaves the boy beside her struck with awe at this new side of her.

— After Lizzy's unexpected revelation, the earl accepts her true self and begins to admire her more.

— The victory party after the second Sapphire Miracle has been memorable, not only for students, but also for the guests. Just for this one night, O!Ciel lets himself enjoy the night by dancing.. with her.

— A song about the earl and the lady as a reflection of their circumstances, and their wish to protect. And wanting to believe.

— Lizzy thinks she and her beloved have gotten closer, but have they? Somewhere in her mind, there is a small fuse waiting to be lit.

— Just as Lizzy thought things will start changing for the better between them, small things that went unnoticeable at first are now telling her that something.. still feels not right.

— A song where O!Ciel looks back on the choices he made, as he strengthens his resolve to go down the path he chose.

— Trying to ignore her doubts, Lizzy still continues to yearn to understand her fiancé who has changed and remained distant ever since that month. In her deepest wishes, she pleads to be allowed inside his heart.

— Despite Lizzy's efforts, the earl remains distant. He has embraced the darkness and his impending end, and the only thing he believes he can do is to keep her at a distance, for more reasons than one.

— A song from the earl's POV, as he reminisces the past and how he wishes to keep Lizzy in the light.

— Lizzy reflects on her duties as the future wife of the Queen's Watchdog, and her sadness at not being able to help or understand the earl. The growing distance between them makes her feel desperate for answers.

— Desperate to find a way to understand O!Ciel, Lizzy starts going to the Sphere Music Hall. However, what she finds there changes her forever.

— Lizzy remembers all the sacrifices she made for Ciel. She gave her heart for her betrothed, but now that she realizes her love has been given to two different people, where does her love for one end, and where does it begin for the other? Who does she really love? Somehow, she already knows the answer, and it is causing her anguish over her supposed love. *This song could be interpreted to be directed to both the twins, as Lizzy thought all this time that she was loving one person only.

"You used to captivate me by your resonating light / Now I'm bound by the life you left behind / Your face, it haunts my once pleasant dreams / Your voice, it chased away all the sanity in me

— Lizzy is in disbelief after discovering that the Ciel she has been with for the past three years was not her true betrothed. She tries so hard to hold on to the image of O!Ciel, the boy who accepted her, and the fiance she has come to love with all her heart. However, the ugly, undeniable truth is right in front of her.

— O!Ciel's lies, mistakes and choices have finally come to haunt him. He realizes this as soon as his eyes met his twin brother's. And most of all, he finally discovers the reason why Lizzy left.

— The sudden appearance of R!Ciel turns his world upside down. Remaining silent with a darkened expression on his face, a disheartened, regretful earl reminisces his memories with Lizzy

Welcome to my little world~ I'm writing this welcome message as an afterthought, as I've actually had this little blog for years, before leaving and now coming back again recently. And I realized I never made a proper intro post! (⁠｡⁠ﾉ⁠ω⁠＼⁠｡⁠)

This blog of mine is dedicated mostly to Elizabeth Midford—the light and human heart of the anime/manga series Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler). However, I do share posts from different anime from time to time—mainly, but not limited to Pandora Hearts and Vanitas no Carte (The Case Study of Vanitas). This blog is not spoiler-free, so please take note!

Aside from anime and manga, I reblog posts on aesthetics that I feel suits Lizzy or the Victorian Era best, as well as quotes or passages from various media that hit me close to the heart. My main ship is O!Cielizzy, but as a multishipper, I also enjoy other ships and may share about them too (except ships that involve a minor and an adult). For that, please note that I do not ship Sebaciel or Claude x Alois. I prefer respecting people's perspectives on these, so please note that I will simply refrain from engaging with such content as much as possible. In turn, you may also choose to do the same regarding my content.

I aim to keep this blog as bright and positive as the girl it's dedicated for, so please if you hate Elizabeth or any of her ships, please DNI. I just remembered a headcanon I have, that O!Ciel actually loves seeing Lizzy's hair down, although he knows she cannot wear it loose in public as it's unbecoming of a Lady. So when she stays over at his manor and the day is done, he looks forward to seeing it unravel—the glorious golden curls falling down to her shoulders after a whole day of being held tightly by two ribbons.

They would quietly spend some time like this, talking as he takes his time to carefully brush the curls from her hair.

— Can we please see a moment between them like this, after R!Ciel goes back to his grave? 🥺 Is that too much to ask, Yana? 😭🥲

With everything he's been through, it would be difficult for O!Ciel to open up and freely speak of his feelings for the people around him. However, his actions are more than enough to show that he cares for her. It might be platonic, or romantic, but there is no doubt that he cares.

Personally I think O!Ciel cares for Lizzy since they were kids. It may have started as platonic, that is slowly turning (or has turned) into something more romantic eventually. Something that he probably is too terrified or guilty to admit given that he knows he's been lying the whole time. There is also the fact that he has convinced himself that as the spare who shouldn't have survived, he has no other hope or purpose in life other than his revenge so he doesn't really have time to think of other matters. I also think he's been concealing his emotions a lot because having a demon beside him, the last thing he'd probably want to show would be these emotions as he knew it could be used against him.

But I hope his feelings are something we'll get to see explored and defined once the manga returns. Maybe we'll get to see more of his own flashbacks much like how the servants' backstories were shown. And maybe, just maybe.. we'll finally get to see from his own POV what Lizzy actually means to him.

I want to know if Our!Ciel view on Lizzie. Does him doing anything nice to her just because of taking his twin's identity? And all is duty? :/

No worries anon, Ciel’s feelings and care for Lizzy are 100% genuine and something he has exactly 0% control over lol

Ciel’s biggest duty is with his revenge - he even sold his soul for it. And yet Ciel has time and time again put his life - and thus, his revenge - into jeopardy for one person.

Lizzy.

Every single time Ciel acts out of instinct, without a single care for his own life and without sparing a single thought to whether Sebastian would be there to save them or not. His desperation is as raw as it comes:

The sheer amount of care he has for Lizzy is all on his face. You can’t get more genuine than that. And you also can’t fake any of these:

Ciel can’t help himself despite his self-imposed barriers, and that says a lot about how strong his feelings for Lizzy are.

This is supported even further by the manga:

Two out of two times, when someone even so much as alluded to Ciel having someone “precious” to him, it’s been about Lizzy. And Ciel himself knows it at once.
