the late afternoon sun hung low, painting the sky in soft hues of pink and gold as you wandered through the edge of the field, basket in hand. your fingers plucked ripe berries from the brambles, the sweet scent of summer thick in the air. the quiet was comforting, broken only by the occasional chirp of crickets or rustle of leaves.
you’d grown up here, surrounded by acres of land your family had tended for generations. it was familiar, safe. but sometimes, it felt like the world stopped at the edge of the fields, and you were left wondering what lay beyond.
that’s when you heard it—the low rumble of boots against dirt. you turned, heart skipping a beat, and there he was: matt.
he worked for your father, helping with the horses and fixing fences, always busy with one thing or another. but right now, he wasn’t working. he was walking toward you, his broad shoulders silhouetted against the sunset, a lopsided grin tugging at his lips. “evenin’, darlin’,” he drawled, tipping his hat.
you froze, clutching the basket against your chest like it could shield you from the way his eyes roamed over you. “hi,” you managed, your voice softer than you intended.
he was everything you weren’t used to—rugged, confident, and so handsome it made your stomach flip. his shirt was unbuttoned at the collar, revealing a hint of tan skin, and his jeans clung low on his hips, dusted from a long day’s work.
“picking berries?” he asked, his gaze dropping to the basket in your hands. you nodded, suddenly shy under his attention. “uh-huh.” he stepped closer, his presence overwhelming in the quiet. “mind if i take one?”
before you could answer, he plucked a berry from the basket, his fingers brushing yours. you watched, breathless, as he popped it into his mouth, his lips curling into a smirk as he chewed. “sweet,” he murmured, his voice low. “just like you, i bet.”
your cheeks burned, and you looked away, pretending to focus on the berries. “you shouldn’t say things like that.” “why not?” he asked, leaning against the fence post. “it’s true.”
you didn’t know what to say to that. no one had ever spoken to you like this before, with a teasing edge that made your heart race and your knees weak. “it's inappropriate,” you said, trying to sound firm, but it came out breathy. “maybe,” he admitted, his grin widening. “but you seem like you could use some trouble in your life.”
you opened your mouth to protest, but he reached out, his hand brushing against your cheek. “you got somethin’ here,” he said softly, his thumb grazing the corner of your lips.
you froze, your breath hitching as his touch lingered. his eyes met yours, darker now, filled with something you couldn’t name but felt deep in your chest. “matt,” you whispered, barely audible. “yeah, sweetheart?”
“i... i should go,” you stammered, but your feet didn’t move. “should you?” he asked, stepping closer until there was barely an inch between you. you shook your head, your basket slipping from your fingers as his hands found your waist.
“thought so,” he murmured, his lips brushing against yours in a kiss that started soft but quickly deepened, his tongue slipping past your lips as his grip on your waist tightened.
you’d never been kissed like this before—never been kissed at all, really. his hands were warm, his touch firm but gentle as he guided you back against the fence. “so pretty,” he muttered against your lips, his hands roaming down to your hips, pulling you flush against him.
“matt,” you whimpered, your hands clutching at his shirt. “let me take care of you, darlin’,” he said, his voice rough as he kissed down your neck, his lips leaving a trail of fire in their wake.
before you knew it, he was leading you toward the barn, the air thick with tension. the door creaked as he pushed it open, the smell of hay and leather surrounding you as he pulled you inside.
he backed you against a stack of hay bales, his hands slipping under your blouse to caress your skin. “tell me to stop if you want, sweetheart,” he said, his eyes searching yours. but you didn’t want him to stop. you shook your head, your fingers tugging at his shirt as he kissed you again, deeper this time.
his hands found the buttons of your blouse, undoing them one by one until it slipped from your shoulders, leaving you bare except for your thin camisole. “so beautiful,” he murmured, his lips trailing down to your collarbone.
you gasped as he tugged your camisole down, his mouth finding your breast, his tongue teasing your nipple until you were arching against him, your fingers tangling in his hair.
“matt, please,” you begged, not even sure what you were asking for, only knowing you needed more. “patience, darlin’,” he said with a smirk, his lips continuing their path down your body.
he knelt in front of you, his hands gripping your thighs as he pressed kisses against your stomach, his fingers slipping under the hem of your skirt.
“these gotta go,” he said, hooking his thumbs into your panties and sliding them down your legs. you shivered as the cool air hit your skin, but it was nothing compared to the heat of his mouth as he pressed a kiss to your inner thigh, his stubble scraping deliciously against your skin.
when his tongue finally found you, you cried out, your hands clutching at the hay as he licked and sucked, his fingers joining in to push you closer to the edge. “that’s it, sweetheart,” he murmured, his voice thick as he worked you over. “let go for me.”
you did, your body trembling as pleasure washed over you, his name falling from your lips like a prayer. he stood, his lips crashing against yours as he undid his belt, the sound of it hitting the barn floor sending a thrill through you.
“you ready for me, darlin’?” he asked, his forehead resting against yours. “yes,” you whispered, your nails digging into his shoulders as he lifted you, his body pressing against yours as he slid into you with one slow, deep thrust.
you moaned, your head falling back as he moved, his pace steady but intense, each thrust driving you higher and higher until you were on the edge again. “come for me, sweetheart,” he growled, his lips brushing against your ear. “let me feel you.”
you shattered around him, your body shaking as he followed, his grip on you tightening as he found his release. after a moment, he pulled back, his lips curling into a soft smile as he brushed a strand of hair from your face. “your bow fell, sweetheart,” he said, holding up the ribbon that had been in your hair.
you laughed breathlessly, taking it from him as he kissed you again, softer this time. “you’re somethin’ else,” he murmured, his eyes full of something you couldn’t quite place.
“so are you,” you replied, already wondering how you’d ever look at the barn the same way again.
