@thecityandthecities
it’s certainly an upgrade from freshman year. at least now he doesn’t have to worry about having the right ratio, or making sure to have anywhere from five to twenty dollars on his person to get into a party. the only downside is that he’s pretty sure that their friend group is expecting him to help host at the next major holiday-ish party, and he’s not sure if he’s ready for that just yet. he...doesn’t even have an apartment off campus; he’s in the dorms with joonho, so that’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out--
joohyuk is severely distracted.
he’s spacing out on this mildly interesting story about how steph had to walk home barefoot from her latest chem 3 exam because joonho’s getting hit on by a girl who’s like three degrees of separation from any of them. it’s just morally wrong. how can joohyuk leave his best friend and the only roommate he hasn’t scared off by his odd hours in the hands of a total stranger?
so he thinks up a lie. believable enough to not arouse suspicion--
“i need you,” he states to joonho, looking him straight in the eye. all this after just walking away from steph and jake mid story. “beer pong duo upstairs getting too cocky after 2 wins in a row.” his smile to the girl is too easy to be truly fake. joohyuk is genuinely happy to steal joonho away. “sorry, he’ll catch up with you later. we’ve got a title to defend right now.”
he’s such a freaking liar.
there’s no guilt though. two beers, a cup of the seriously strong mixed juice, and three stupid dare shots in, and joohyuk doesn’t feel much. except for how warm joonho’s palm is in his. they’re holding hands, and he’s dragging him upstairs where the pong table actually is, but he directs them toward a sharp left, where the hallway is dimmer, and the little bay window overlooks the street in front of the house. “i lied.” he shrugs, letting go of joonho’s hand and sitting on the little seat that’s got a worn out cushion. “i’ll lie less in the new year or something, i don’t know.”
“but it was hot down there and i know how uncomfortable you get when there’s a lotta body heat.” nose scrunching, he can even call himself out of his bull (but he’s not sorry). joohyuk reaches behind him, fumbling with the latch on the window. he pushes it out so that it opens an inch or two, letting the cool winter air hit his back. he shivers. “sorry if you were really interested in her. didn’t mean to cockblock you.” opening his legs slightly, he leaves room for joonho to settles himself wherever he wants: against the railing of the stairs, up against the wall, or right in between his legs.
he’s laid the cards out on the table. it’s joonho’s turn now.

Little Witch - Part 12
the Darkling x Reader
The hour was late as the stars basked in the darkness and cold winter air. The fire roared in its hearth while your still steaming cup of sleep-aiding tea sat untouched on the small table. Your talk with Alina earlier was the cause of your unrest. You didn't know whether to feel sorry for her or be frustrated with her. She is a lovely girl, most pure and kind and quite literally the definition of sunshine, but something about her irked you and you hated it.
Maybe it was her somewhat unhealthy obsession with her friend, the tracker- Malyen Oretsev, or the sheer denial and lack of understanding of her position. Sure, Mal was the only thing that tied her to her old life, a sense of home, but he didn't belong anywhere near the Little Palace and posed a threat to Alina's true potential. She should understand that, no doubt it's been explained to her many times. She was no longer a random girl from the First Army or a Child of Keramzin, she was the Sun-Summoner and had to act the part.
But there was also a nagging feeling in you since your last words with Aleksander, the ones about the stag. From what you could gather, Alina definitely wasn't power-hungry, not yet anyway, and placing an antler anywhere on her would be against her wishes. You knew deep down that whatever he had planned would go far beyond just giving her an amplifier for her sake.
You sighed and moved around on the armchair again, trying to convince yourself those were the reasons you couldn't sleep, that Alina's position in this mess was why your mind wouldn't shut off, but who were you kidding, it was her and him. For starters, she called Aleksander by his name. The second the word left her mouth, your blood ran cold.
__
'Is he not here?' Alina looked to you from over her mug, eyes scanning the room.
'Who?'
'Aleksander, is he away at Kribirsk again?' Your smile faltered and your grip on your own mug loosened. But Alina waited for an answer.
'Oh umm, I don't know.' You did but the shock caused your mind to blank completely.
__
You had known Aleksander for years before he even told you his true name, you had to earn it. She spoke of her General with a fondness, at one point even speaking of him as if he were more than just her commanding officer.
__
'Do you miss the First Army Alina? I know you left friends behind, not just Mr.Oretsev.'
'I suppose I don't feel at home just yet, it's a lot to take in, this whole division of orders thing doesn't help either... But he assures me I am not alone, that I have an equal in the Palace.'
An equal?
__
The heat of the fire was doing nothing to calm down your rising rage. Apparently Aleksander was doing more talking with Alina than you'd thought, even sacrificing his own true name, one only spoken by you and his mother, for her to utter as if it was just another name. So what if you were in his chambers, making use of his office and sleeping in his bed, he clearly had his eyes on two prizes or maybe just one.
You felt sick now, be it from the heat or the anger, you got up and opened a window. The cold and dark night was a stark contrast to the licks of the flame. It made you feel at peace, but only momentarily. You heard voices outside, slowly growing louder. You rested your head against the wall, begging for one last moment of stillness, but alas the door was yanked open and his boots echoed throughout the room. You cursed yourself for deciding to spend another night in his quarters. You thought he'd be gone longer than just 4 days.
'I do hope you made yourself comfortable' His voice was as smooth as the kvas you had downed after Alina left. You wanted to turn around, but the anger was still there and all hell would break loose if you let your emotions run wild again.
'I did thank you. At least you have a desk'
'I'll get you one first thing in the morning'
'No need, I already requested one' Your voice was void of any emotion. Don't start a fight.
'Are you alright?'
'Just tired, being diplomatic is hard work' It sure was right now.
'Might I suggest actually getting into bed then?' His hand slowly came around your wrist and pulled you in the direction of the bedroom but ironically at the simple touch, your anger grew, when it usually has the opposite effect. You saw out of the corner of your eye that he had a genuine smile on his face, one that tended to make you melt but not now. You shrugged him off and walked in the direction of the door, leaving him utterly confused.
'Y/N what's going on.
'I'm tired, I'm going to bed' You tried so hard to act normal, not in any way pissed.
'Y/N look at me'
'Goodnight Aleksander' You couldn't help it, the mockery of his name just came out. There goes the diplomacy.
You heard him quickly walk towards you and tried to get to the door first to escape the tense atmosphere you created but he got there first, blocking your way.
'What?' You threw your hands up in exasperation not yet looking at him.
'Did something happen whilst I was away?'
'No'
'Then what is it'
'Nothing'
'Don't lie to me Y/N'
'Oh but it's okay for you to lie to me' Your eyes finally bore into his.
'Excuse me?' His expression read baffled; annoyed; pissed.
'Move away from the door Aleksander'
'No! You're going to be mature and have an actual conversation with me for once' He asked for it.
'Alright fine, Let's start with Alina''
'Y/N'
'I had a lovely little tea party with her today. Sweet thing. She loves to talk once you get her going. She told me a lot of fascinating stuff, including your name! How interesting don't you think.' Your voice was so cold it even made you shiver.
'I can explain'
'I'm not finished.' You felt that pull in you, that pull that comes before you put your fire or shadows to use but crammed it down with all your might. 'Her best friend hasn't been replying to any of her letters and I can recount there are many of them. Guess what I found in one of your drawers? They are all very poetic don't you think? I'm all for helping her adjust, but that's not help, that's manipulation Aleksander.'
'She won't let him go, It's dragging her down.' He said through gritted teeth.
'Dragging her down or away?' The double meaning in your words didn't go unnoticed by him.
'Y/N all I want to do is go to bed right now, I've had a long day, please.' His hand reached out for yours but you scoffed and moved away.
'You wanted to have this conversation, General, don't shy away when your actions are questioned.'
'Fine' He unblocked the door and crossed the room, throwing his cloak and kefta on the floor with a heavy thud. 'Is there anything else you wish to accuse me of Y/N dearest?'
'Look at you, so bitter but I haven't heard you deny any of it'
'You may go now if you like.' He picked up a decanter of whiskey and poured himself a generous glass
'Since when are you this childish Aleksander. Have I missed something in my 100-year absence?' You mocked.
'You left me with all of this' He gestured to the palace. '-That's what happened.'
'Don't turn this around on me, and I told you that wasn't a choice.'
'The Y/N I knew would have come back and not hid like a coward'
You stilled and waited for any sign of apology, but it never came. He meant it even though he knew how much such a simple statement would hurt you. You turned slowly and walked to the door.
'While I'm gone, at least have the common decency to change the sheets before you bring Alina in here' you shut it loudly behind you and heard the breaking of the glass, no doubt thrown at the door as you were leaving.
What a day.

Ehi, sorry if I bother you, could you do something about hero and villain who are siblings? Gender neutral please. Ty and I love your blog
“I’m not surprised to see you here.”
Villain turned around quickly, hands flitting down to the knives at their belt before going slack as they saw who was behind them. “Hero.”
“What, think I didn’t know about your attachment to this place?” Hero glanced around the old, worn-down bedroom—one that hadn’t been used in years, maybe decades. “I see you walk here almost every day.”
Villain narrowed their eyes. “And I thought you had better things to do than watch your sibling trot down the street to visit a forgotten home.”
Hero shrugged. “It’s better than watching you shit over the city until I swoop in and handle your ass.”
“Watch that mouth of yours.”
“Just because you’re older than me doesn’t mean you can order me around. Not anymore.” Hero crossed their arms. “I can’t believe mom and dad favored you over me, just what would they say if they could see you now?”
“Well they’re dead, so I’m assuming they can’t say shit.” Villain kicked one of the legs of the desk beside them, biting down hard on their lip. They invested their interest in a painting of a fruit bowl hung up on one of the yellowing walls.
Hero’s expression softened. “Villain, I—,”
“Why are you here?” Villain cut them off sharply. “To patronize me? Tell me that what I’m doing is wrong, that visiting this place is wrong?”
Hero blinked, befuddled. “What? No, I just...I just wanted to be here with you.” They made eye contact, and Hero gave their sibling a small smile. “I didn’t want you to be alone this time.”
Villain barked a bitter laugh. “Of course. After all, you never left me alone as a kid, did you? Always coming into my room, sitting in my lap, calling my phone twenty times a day.” They shook their head as the memories flooded their thoughts. “It’s much different now.”
"It doesn't have to be."
"Don't pull that card on me," Villain snapped, whirling around. "I might not be able to bring mom and dad back, but at least I'm actually trying to give their dead bodies an ounce of justice."
Hero visibly stiffened, scowling. "Trying to bring down a whole ass government isn't what you call justice."
“At least I’m actually doing something. You’re just getting in the way, like always.” Villain ran an exasperated hand through their hair. “Can’t you just let me have my moment?”
Hero snorted. “No.”
“Why not.”
“Because we’re siblings and it’s my duty as the youngest to annoy the living fuck out of you.”
“You’re insufferable.”
“I know.” Hero flashed a grin that didn’t quite reach their eyes. They cleared their throat, ducking their head. “But it’s also my duty as your family to make sure that you’re okay, and I know you’re not.”
“And what makes you say that?” Villain’s voice had a dangerous edge to it.
“Well for starters, you’re attempting to dismantle a political system that’s been established for generations upon generations and assassinate the prime minister. No sane person would do such things.” Hero paused, then added, “No happy person would do such things either.”
Villain placed their hands on top of the wooden table. “I’m past grieving.”
“Your actions say otherwise.”
Villain shook their head. “So then what do you suppose I do? Sit around and eat chips while watching Sesame Street? I’m not three years old anymore.”
“Neither am I,” Hero said.
“You sure act like one.”
“Oh shut up,” Hero scoffed, a smile tugging at the corners of their lips. “My point is, find something better to do with your life instead of taking a hammer to a diamond.”
“Hammers can break diamonds,” Villain clarified.
“Jesus, Villain. Let me finish my goddamned sentence without you pointing out every little thing.” Hero took a breath. “My point is, even if you have to go and watch Sesame Street to calm yourself down, stop what you’re doing. You’re not getting anywhere.”
Villain pursed their lips. “I—,”
Hero cut them off. “Don’t argue with me.” They held out a hand. “I have a TV at home, c’mon. We can go say hi to Eldritch or whatever that little red monster’s name is.”
Villain’s eyes flicked to Hero’s outstretched hand, then back to around the dusty room, snagging on all the cracks, the peeling, all the imperfections that had only gotten worse with time. They looked back at Hero, who cocked their head towards the doorway.
Villain exhaled through their nose and grabbed Hero’s wrist.
“It’s Elmo, by the way. Who in hell told you it was Eldritch?” Villain said as they were led out of the house and towards the village down the hill.

Always by your side || Luke Patterson
Chapter eleven~ her special ability
2020
The raven haired boy arrived back at Julie’s house, more over in her room. His eyes dared to the blonde who tried to lift a frame from the dresser. The shaggy haired boy stood in front of the bookshelf, studying the pictures. Reggie himself lays down on her bed, fingers running over the fabric of her blanket.
A voice disturbed the silence, “what are you guys doing in my room?”
“Uh..”
“Um..” they stuttered, view wandering between each other.
Luke was the first to find words, “we were looking for the kitchen?”
“This..” she points toward the band, “this cant happen. Its creepy,” her eyes now glued on reggie, “get off my bed, please.”
Luke raises his arm, “hey Julie, whats in the box?”
“That’s off limits.”
“Oh. Oh okay,” he chuckles, “Girls stuff.”
Julie crosses her arms in front of her chest, anger reflects in her facial expression.
“Oh, like butterflies and glitter?”
“Oh, come on. I'm sorry about them,” Alex insists.
“It's none of your business. And yes, there might be some glitter,” she teased.
Alex holds the frame in his hands, spinning around to his friends, “hey!” he chuckles, “I actually picked something up,” when he finished the sentence the frame fell on her bed.
“I dropped it,” disappointed he looked down onto it.
“Is that your mom?”
“Yes, and it’s my favourite picture of us,” she emphasised the favourite, “you break it, I’ll break you.”
“Okay, well, sorry but we’re kinda unbreakable at this point,” Alex adds.
“I don’t get it. You guys can mess up my bed, pick up your instruments, but can’t pick up other stuff?
“I know, its hard. But for some reason, our instruments easy.”
“Yeah, like super easy. Oh and check out what I learned today,” in the next seconds his bass was in his hands, throwing him back in the beanbag.
“Yeah, that looked super easy.”
“Can I ask you guys something?” they nodded. “You told me about your sister, right? Is she a ghost too? Did you saw her? Can she do it too?”
“Well.. this one.. this one time she.. she told me she was surfing and people could see her, she could talk to them like we do and she kinda lost her mind.”
“You never told it!”
“Yeah, maybe cause you’d freak on the fact she’d leave this dark room.”
“She what?”
“Yes, she left it during the day to avoid you and at night she came back and talked to me and Luke.”
“This means, every time I thought she'd visited my dreams again to talk to me, she actually spoke with me?!”
“I remember she said something like that earlier.”
“Earlier?” His friends asked in sync.
“Well yeah you know how she can feel my mood? So do I and I felt it earlier so I searched for her and we talked,” he shrugged his shoulder as if it would be the casual thing in the world.
“Did you wanted to inform us about it?” Alex questions running his hand through his hair.
“I don’t know, if she came up in our conversation maybe..”
Their little argumentation was disturbed by a knocking on the door and Julie’s dad sticking his head in the door, “everything okay?”
“Yeah. Im fine.” Luke let go of Alex’s hand, he had clutched against his chest.
“Okay. I thought I heard you talking to someone.”
“Nope. Must’ve been my laptop.. that I just closed.”
“Okay, if you need anything..” he points to the door.
“Yeah. Thanks.” This was his clue to leave, he closed the door and the attention of the girl was abruptly on the raven haired boy.
“Your dad seems like the kind of guy who likes to barbecue. I bet he has a great ribs recipe.”
“I don’t know. But if you guys wanna talk to me, we have to do it in the studio. He’s worried about me enough as it is.”
“He seems chill. You should just tell him about us,” luke suggests.
“You’re kidding right?” she sighs, “the past year, everyones been watching over me, being super nice, as if theyre waiting for me to snap. If I tell my dad I met a ghost band, I’ll be back to talking to Dr. Turner three days a week.”
“You probably shouldn’t tell him.”
“Julie…”
“Oh my gosh! I told you to leave it alone!”
“I know. You shouldn’t have said nothing cause now I cant stop thinking about it, so.. Whats in the box Julie?”
“It’s just my dream box, okay? Whenever I get a thought, I write it down and get it out of my mind.”
“Like lyrics?” His body shifts so he faced Alex, they both knew exactly what the other was thinking; this was like Sabrina’s green book, every little thing which crossed her mind was written down in it.
‘Where is it now? I had it in my bag at the Orpheum, I couldn’t just lose it right?’
“They would be if I still wrote music like I used to with my mom. Now it’s full of stuff that doesn’t make me sad.”
“But, I mean, you do play. We heard you this morning,” Alex raised from his seat stepping closer to her.
“In the garage?” Luke hits alex upper arm, brows knitted.
“So you were there too?”
“Uh.. I don’t…” his voice a pinched ton.
“uh he was, like..,” Reggie's voice on the same level.
“We were..”
“Somewhere.”
“So, where is you kitchen, by the way,” the shaggy haired tried to distract her. He rested his head in his palm as he laid on her bed, also with puppy eyes.
“Okay, we need to set some boundaries,” she bend down to his level, “for starters, stay out of my room!”
“Mm-hmm. Cristal clear. Let’s go.”
“We're leaving,” they made their way over to the door.
“Yes, ma’am! We’re out of here.”
Moments later Alex’s head was in the room again, “hey. Um, sorry I didn’t mean to bother you. Did you get back into your music program?”
“No.. no I didn’t.”
“I’m sorry. That really sucks,”
“thanks.” His eyes wanders around the room and silence felt over the pair.
“is that it?”
“Yeah. Yeah, this is getting weird,” she waves at him and he leaves her alone.
The band was back in the studio sitting spread across the room. Reggie tugs on his bass, Alex head rests on the drum, Luke’s eyes glued to the roof.
“You know guys, I really miss her,” the shaggy haired boy whined, “but I can't forgive her, not after all those years. I mean she ignored me twenty-five years, like.. wait she’s stubborn she can and will if she wants. But I thought…”
“Shut up, talk to her or leave it,” Alex exhales.
“that’s the point, where is she, what should I say, whats her response.”
“You’ll never know if you don’t do it.”
There was a knock on the studio door and through the window were some blonde strands visible which floaded in the wind.
Reggie sat up, his eyes laid on the door, “should we open the door? Is that her?”
“Come in!”
Sabrina poofed herself into the room but was still in a good distance to the boy.
“I shouldn’t be here, I know but.. I.. mm..”
Alex was fast on his feet, embracing her fragile body, although they weren’t alive anymore they both still had their special scent which felt like home for each other.
“I was an ass, Will. And I should have listened to you but I was so heated that you didn’t told that we were dead for twenty-five years.”
Their little moment was interrupted by the guitarist who taped Alex’s shouler letting him know they weren’t alone.
“Brina. I was so selfish and full of anger. I .. I really missed you and your voice. I’m sounding like Alex but I’d probably should had listen to you and your point of view.”
“Yeah right. It’s.. never mind. I should get going.”
“No Will stay.”
“Right, we have to introduce you somebody.”
“It’s this Julie, right? Yeah, she’s impressive, you should probably play with her, push her and all this,” Sabrina shruggs her shoulders and Reggie locked his eyes with her, a brow raised; he felt it and she knew it.
Luke’s eyes lit up as she mentioned her voice, “yeah she is stunning,” the grief in her grew and Reggie’s eyes widened. Alex looks between the two, seeing her eyes are welling up.
“Do you mind if I talk with Will in private?”
“What’s wrong?”
“It’s nothing.”
“That’s bullshit. Talk to me Sabrina.”
“It’s just, y’all hate me and I understand but you have to understand me too. And now with this girl, I’m losing you and Luke, the way he looks at her…”
“How would you even know?”
“This morning when she sang, I was there, I saw you, her, everyone. And… and I really wanted to hug you, talk to you but I couldn’t.“
“But I didn’t saw you?”
“Well yesterday I saw the three of you at the orpheum, you even passed me as well as this tall man in smoking and black coat. He bumped your shoulder but went straight through me, it drove me crazy so I wanted to speak to you and I knew where I would find you so I came here. First, I.. I was in the garage as well but then you three poofed in and I left, then y’all were outside as well and your eyes laid on me so I thought you saw me.”
“But I didn’t.. but then suddenly you were.”
“I was, the whole time.”
“How’s that possible? Are you superman?”
“I don’t know but we’d try if people see me without surfing if I want to. I mean not Julie cause she can see you without you playing your instruments.”
“Her friend Flynn, she can't we should do it...”
