Just... look at this art style, it literally always takes my breath away ITS BEAUTIFUL. So expressive and unique, I love it sm. They also have an encanto fanfiction too, it's set a few years in the future and is Mirabel x oc, I would never usually look for those stories on my own, since I'm not really into non canonical ships, but the art they made for it intrigued me and although I haven't read it in a while, from what I did read it was amazing. Really well written and descriptive!

I’m happy you guys enjoyed that! I’m not really a pun maker since I actually take a lot of damage from bad puns. Episode 14 Reaction

This was an emotional episode!

I have to say, I personally didn’t love the new OP. Something didn’t hit with me. I thought the animation was kind of clunky and I didn’t love the feel of the song. I think I’d rather have something darker if it’s not going to be something super fun like Chime or Prism. Just was a weird middle ground for me 🤷🏼‍♀️ (but I loved the shot of baby Yuki and Kyo 🥺)

Gramps is the cutest. Shigure is the worst hehe

I thought Shishou’s place was nice, but Yuki’s parent’s house is incredible what.

Can they draw Kyo this good all the time???? Look at him looking at Tohru I can’t 😭

I loved seeing Kyo decide to go to Tohru. He loves her so much 😭 and it was also a cool transition from him turning to the next scene.

I didn’t notice until the second watch that Yuki dropped his book bag lolol I was wayyyy to focused on RinxHaru haha anyone else sad about his hand placement here tho. This was a well done scene, but what really got me was Haru and Yuki talking afterward about Yuki fighting to find the place he belongs 😭

This scene was just beautiful. Gramps is the best and it’s heartbreaking hearing him talk about missing Kyoko and Katsuya. And Tohru’s fears and trauma surfacing was perfectly done.

I just loved getting a look at young Rin. 🥺 And Haru has the best lines omg.

The new ED is amazing 😭 I love the song (not as much as Lucky Ending, but still top tier!!) and the artwork is just stunning! These were my favorites.

Overall such a great episode! Episodes 7 and 13 remain my faves of the season so far (and I didn’t even write my thoughts on 13 😑 I was too emotional). Parent teacher conferences next—gonna be a good one!

My Favourite Shows of 2017

Happy New Year! It’s time again for my list of favourite shows of the year. Here’s to another year of good anime. Thank you for following and I hope you are enjoying the good anime we had this year. I present the list, in no particular order.

ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-ka

Political intrigue, double crossing, and a secret coup. This show was excellent at world building and making the world seem like a real and interesting place. It’s rare to find a nicely wrapped up show in one cour especially when there were so many different plot lines going on with the characters.

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu: Sukeroku Futatabi-hen

Continuing off a few years after the first season ended we get to hear the rest of the story. Focusing more on Konatsu and Yotaro, we see the story of Yakumo taking on an apprentice and trying to keep rakugo alive. The second season was a roller coaster of emotions and had some of the most beautiful scenes.

Little Witch Academia

Trigger back to save anime again! This time making a series out of an OVA. This show is charming and adorable. Akko is a genki girl with so much spunk and the supporting cast is just as awesome. In typical Trigger fashion the show amps up the stakes in the final arc and we get a grand finale that is both wonderful and sweet. The animation is great as expected in a Trigger production, and the various little Easter Eggs always make me smile.

Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon / Miss Kobayashi’s Maid Dragon

An otherworldly creature takes up residence in a office worker’s home and decides to live with her. Hi-jinx ensue. This show is full of warm fuzzies and Kana is the cutest. Plenty of jokes to be had here and the animation is very smooth, as expected of Kyo Ani.

Re:Creators

Take the isekai trope and reverse it, that’s what you get with Re:Creators. Fictional protagonists get transported to the real world.Add a dash of Sawano and you have an entertaining series with quite a few twists and turns. I enjoyed that they pulled in different types of protagonists from different genres of shows as well. A mech pilot, a chivalrous knight, a magical girl, and a mage to name a few. I was thoroughly amused by this series and it was good fun. The antagonist was a little too much for me at times with their over powered abilities. But just a minor annoyance in an otherwise great show.

Uchouten Kazoku 2 / The Eccentric Family 2

The long awaited sequel to a show I never thought would get a sequel, but I am so glad that it did. Rejoining the antics of Shimagomo family we get introduced to a few new characters. I love the colours in this show and how vibrant everything looks. Yasaburo is also a babe <3.

Made in Abyss

Wow, this show took me by surprise having heard virtually nothing about it before watching the first episode. The world building is fantastic, and the character designs are so unique. The creatures living in the abyss are also terrifying. Also the soundtrack is PHENOMENAL and inspired. Do yourself a favour and watch this show. The suffering depicted throughout their journey into the abyss was pretty gut-wrenching as well.

Mahoujin Guru Guru

Where do I even begin with this show. I think it was one of the most consistently funny shows that I watched this year. Every episode has me laughing out loud at one joke or another. The gags don’t get stale even when re-used. Kukuri is so precious and her smile must be protected. The animation is really smooth and consistent and they occasionally use 16 bit animation. It actually feels like I’m watching an RPG, they even have status bars that show up throughout the show that sometimes show their levels. It’s really quite hilarious.

Princess Principal

Female spies in an alternate universe steampunk-London. If you can handle a non-linear story progression then you should take a look at this show. The soundtrack is done by one of my favourites, Yuki Kajiura. The episodic nature of the show allows some of the side characters to really shine and I actually like a side character as my favourite character because of their backstory. It’s rare that an original show like this manages to be so captivating so early on in it’s run.The artwork and character designs are nice and Victorian England makes for an exciting setting for spies.

Garo Vanishing Line

I know this show is 2 cour and will spill into 2018, but the first cour was excellent and warrants it’s inclusion on my list of faves. I really am getting into the Garo franchise and Mappa is doing an incredible job of showing their strengths with this franchise. It’s got plenty of action and an interesting plot line. The first cour was mostly episodic in nature, introducing the characters of the series and now the second cour I think will delve into more lengthy story arcs. But so far it has me entertained.

Houseki no Kuni / Land of the Lustrous

OMG this SHOW!!! I think I can say that it is my number 1 favourite show of 2017. Everything about it is so stunning and gorgeous. The choice of using CG has some people divided, but I love it. I’ve been a fan of CG shows since Knights of Sidonia and Ajin, and Houseki no Kuni demonstrates the epitome of awesome things you can do with CG. The camerawork is stunning for fight scenes and you can do things that you’d never see in 2D animation. I think CG is the perfect format for a show like this. The colours are gorgeous and the characters are so endearing and full of life. The show’s universe is mysterious and I desperately want a season 2. I could literally talk about how much I love this show for hours, but I’ll just tell you that you have to watch it. It’s criminally under-watched in my opinion. Story wise, you have these genderless gemstone characters who fight against the Lunarians who are trying to kidnap them, break them into fragments and use them as weapons to capture the remaining gemstone characters. There is also an air of mystery going on and you barely scratch the surface of the truth behind this universe. I love this show it’s a masterpiece of art.

Inuyashiki

Well this show was a pleasant surprise. Not only does it have a complete adaptation, but it’s a pretty badass show. So this old man and teenager get turned into super powered robots. Then you see how different they react with their new found powers. They mix a little CG in when they use their robot powers. It’s a bit clunky at times but the story is compelling enough to make me not notice it. Also the OP is sung by Man With A Mission, one of my favourite Japanese groups so that’s a bonus.

Kekkai Sensen & Beyond / Blood Blockade Battlefront & Beyond

I didn’t think it was possible to top the first season of Kekkai Sensen because it was so cool. But this second season is WAY better. Now you have to be a fan of the episodic format as each episode is pretty much standalone except two two-part arcs. We get a lot more time with side characters and learn more about the background of my favourite character, Chain. <3 <3 Also Steven (total DILF) gets a lot more screen time which is great. It has the same humour and upbeat zany atmosphere as the first season but it really feels more like a labour of love where the characters are given time to shine. And the characters are the strong point of this show. The OST is also really great as it mixes jazz, RnB, rap, hip hop style songs as it’s supposed to be a take on New York. It also has some amazing sakuga scenes because it’s got the BONES people working their magic.

Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou / Girls’ Last Tour

This show really surprised me. It was so comfy, yet melancholy. Two girls are just travelling around in a tank in what appears to be a post-nuclear/apocalyptic Earth. The background and atmosphere is really great, it reminds me of Blame or the city of Sidonia with layered city structures and industrial almost steampunk type environment. It’s kind of a lonely show with just snippits of their lives together roaming the wasteland. The OST is glorious and relaxing though. I’d say it’s kind of like a slice of life except not heavy handed with the jokes. You really feel that they are the last few remaining people on Earth. The voice actors also have excellent chemistry as it’s just those two girls talking to each other essentially the entire episode, yet the show remains engaging.

Here’s my breakdown of what happened at C2E2!

I spent Friday attending professional panels for the comics industry, which probably deserves a post of its own, but I don't think anyone is interested in me talking shop. But Saturday was devoted to Agents of SHIELD stuff with Iain and Liz. I had an amazing time and so many awesome things happened. Truly it was the best con experience I’ve ever had and, as @bigfunnywords (HEY Tumblr finally let me tag you!) said, I lived my best life. I'll try to do the tl;dr version but this will probably get long.

So first thing in the morning I met up with some cosplay friends of mine and also the lovely @whatlighttasteslike and @nanorii, and we went straight to Iain's autograph line. We were pretty near the front. I think we were all highkey nervous but trying to stay chill. I forget which one of us went first up to his table--I think it was my friend Karen--but Iain saw that she was dressed as Jemma, then saw me and my other friend right behind her also dressed as Jemma, and he got REALLY excited and was like "omg, look at all of you, you’re great, come here! I want to take a picture for Liz."

So yeah, that's how we ended up on Iain's phone. Friendly reminder to myself that that actually happened.

I've kinda blanked on some of what we talked about when it was my turn to go through, because I was so nervous, but I thanked him for how they depicted Fitz's recovery from his brain injury in season 2. I have a chronic stutter, and while that is nowhere near a TBI, there's some similarities when it comes to difficulty communicating, and I appreciated how they showed that. Ironically, I don't think I stuttered at all while I was talking to him (small mercies), but whatever. Then he signed my artwork, which he loved (I'm still laughing at his "I concur!" and arrow on the painting Liz signed last year). Then he shook my hand and I went off to the side to wait for the rest of the Tumblr gang.

While we were waiting, Liz came out to her table, and @nanorii told me to turn around--Iain was pointing and waving for me and my friends to come back over so he could show us off to Liz (and he was excited AGAIN). So that happened too. Good times.

We got in line for Liz after that but staff said we probably wouldn't make it through before their panel, so we all went and got in line for that. It got delayed a bit because during the panel before theirs (Stan Lee), the projector started smoking and they had to evacuate the room. Yikes. As a result, Iain and Liz's panel had to run short, but it was excellent. I know it’s online and you’ve all seen it now, but they're both so funny and it was really nice to see how well they get along with each other. So many good one-liners. So many good giffable (?) moments.

After that, we went back to Liz's line. The first words out of her mouth when she saw me was "that is a REALLY expensive jacket!" (Bahaha she knows.) Me: “Wanna know how much I paid for it?” Liz: “Yes and no!” She boggled when I told her how much I got it for (waaaaay below retail price), we commiserated over the Murder Heels and she complimented the flats I got to replace them, and she told me I looked awesome (yay!). She really liked the Science March art I had her sign (both she and Iain screamed a little when I gave them their copies to keep). OH--and I told her that I was the artist whose work she tweeted back in January without knowing who'd done it, and she yelled a bit. I love her, she's so nice and genuinely excited about everything.

I also got to see @whatlighttasteslike give Iain and Liz their fandom message scrapbooks, which was so sweet. That’s her story to tell, but they both looked genuinely touched to receive them, and I was so happy. We did good! And wasn’t Liz’s video message lovely?

Photo op time! Iain was like "Simmons!" when I came in and I asked if he was cool with hugs, but I still can't believe I actually did that. I think it turned out okay.

I should mention at this point in time that in the morning we'd learned that one of the booths on the con floor had a live capuchin monkey, and we were like SOMEONE NEEDS TO TELL IAIN. So when I went back for my duo photo op, I was just outside the booth curtain when THE MONKEY ARRIVED. So, I got to see Iain take photos with the monkey, which I know we’ve all seen by now too. It was sitting on his shoulder and kinda beating him on the head with an empty plastic bottle, but even though he was kinda like “uh help” he looked SO thrilled. When the handler came to take the monkey back, both Iain and Liz gave it scratches and they were all smiles. Best reason for a photo op holdup ever. Honestly I feel blessed to have witnessed it.

After the photo ops, we all started to go our separate ways. After awhile of walking the floor (looking for the booth with the monkey, actually), me and one of my cosplay friends ended up near the autograph tables again, saw that hardly anyone was in Iain's line, so we decided to go and say hi again.

It was really nice; we got to chat for about five minutes or so. He was drinking a beer when we came up (LMAO) so the conversation between us, Iain, and his handler went like beer > beer at cons > party cons with more alcohol > no Iain this is not a party con > DRAGONCON. I think me and his handler actually warmed Iain up to considering DC (he asked if there were more costumes at DragonCon, and said it sounded interesting), though when I told him that Brett had attended last year, he was like “mmm nope sorry I don’t think I can do it.” (What a troll.) Then we talked about the monkey some--Iain said he had actually met it before the photo op and fed it cheese popcorn, and honestly I don't think I've ever heard anyone sound so delighted about something. I told him the show is stressing me the hell out but he’s so good at playing evil, and he just laughed and said it’s been fun to do. After that he watched his handler tease me about where I live and where I'm originally from in Alabama (he's from Birmingham as well) (”do you live in Montgomery on purpose?” “No.”) (Iain was like lol whaaaaaat). Then some other people came up so we said our goodbyes, he gave us each a high five, wished us a safe trip home, and that was that.

So that was basically my experience. I am SO glad I was able to attend, and that I got to see and hang out with so many awesome people--my cosplay friends, the new friends I made through them, the Tumblr gang, and also @jsimmonss and @msdevindanielle who I got to say hi to! Also @bigfunnywords and @pobmmm deserve a special shoutout for being the best enablers and cheerleaders ever. YOU ARE ALL LOVELY. Truly, this was the best weekend, and I still can’t believe it all happened.

lavender, plum, and iris

lavender - when did you realise you were bi?

i kinda covered that a little bit here, but essentially i knew for a long while i just didn’t internalize and accept it until i was in college. pretty early on in my first year, actually.

plum - any coming out stories you’d like to share?

omg, okay. so i didn’t officially announce anything for another year and a half/two years. and when i did it was a general post on facebook. like ‘hey everybody. i know i’m with a guy and there’s a good chance i’ll be with this guy for the rest of my life but i also like girls and it’s important for me to put that out there because it’s a huge part of my identity that i’ve ignored for a while.’

my mom had the audacity to make it about her?? she was like - i thought i did such a good job of making it clear i’d accept you no matter what. why didn’t you tell me sooner?? and i wish you hadn’t made a facebook post because you should have told your family first that was such an impersonal way for me to find out and whaaa whaa whaaa why can’t we always be about ME.

but the cool part was i got to say this to her: “well that’s the whole point. it was my coming out and i got to do it however i felt comfortable.” that shut her up. 

iris - any cute crush stories you’d like to share?

since i made my last story about a girl, i’ll make this one about a guy!

so, this crush actually came with a lot of baggage and badness, but i’m gonna stick to the cute parts as the ask calls for. anyway, i met this dude at a summer internship where we were paid to learn how to sword fight. (the program’s called ArtWorks and it’s amazing fyi) he was funny and sarcastic and had a really great ass and i spent our first summer in the program quietly swooning but mostly just appreciating his friendship.

the second summer we both got sorted into the same co-op again. the only difference was, we’d hung out a couple times during the school year and it turned out that my attraction wasn’t so one-sided and we’d been fooling around for a couple months. so. like. things were pretty explosive. and i’d drive him to and from work and sometimes on the way back to his house we’d stop off places - thrift stores and parks. and idk. when it was good, it was good and i had a lot of fun and learned a lot about myself (even if some of the things were not so flattering).
