so for starters motorcity is a cartoon about the rule of cool, car gangs, and oppression from a guy who built a perfect efficient city Over the normal city of detroit on a big dome. everyone above kinda lives in a rigid perfection-oriented apple product smooth city, everyone below is Alive and also Chaotic. there are also killer robots. moving on.

my ideas start and end with the mobile games (i am SO SORRY sora you know i love you. you and roxas and xion and others are probably doing cool fun stuff too)

Ephy's gang (the dandelions) cornered one of the lakes still in motorcity and monopolized it to use as their base, they run a beachy resort called Daybreak Town that provides luxury services for cheap prices to normal citizens. People love it because it's like, a resort and a vacation spot where there aren't any more, and also they can relax and not worry abt being shot at by robots because the gang is good at what they do. obviously other gang members run a higher price than normal citizens because of the increased attack risk, and if they act up inside the resort Lauriam will not hesitate to kick everyone out. the rule is Don't Ruin It. the Dandelions trade in and out a lot of money from/to their resort business, so they're good to trade with, and also have a slight reputation as being intense when it comes to trade deals and parts salvaging. you know how competitive khux got.

Ephemer and Skuld (the bear and snake, respectively) run the front desk and manage every trade deal. They're the face members, they deal with PR, management, etc. They're very nice, customer service and all that, and also very scary because they're the most powerful people on the east side and are smiling at you. Brain (the fox) runs all the computer and tech stuff, all the scheduling and activity decisions, and he's the treasurer. Behind the scenes sort of guy, absolutely the one they send in if a trade deal is going poorly and they want to outfox (hahaaa) someone else. He also makes schematics for new weapons. Lauriam (the unicorn) is groundskeeper and security -- caring for the plants (they have water, and thus they have plants, and thus their trade extends to some edible goods as well) relaxes him, which he kind of needs, because he has to be intimidating if someone rowdy is gonna listen to him. He's a twig boy still... dont worry lauri youll fill out soon. Ven and Vani (two leopards, snow and melanistic) are part time maintenance/customer service part time external security, because they like having tasks to do and also like (and are very good at) fight attack kill. Vanitas really likes fixing/making stuff, funny enough, and Ven likes to help people; and Vanitas likes ...dealing with annoying customers. I like 2 think Kane was experimenting with cadets + cyborg stuff and they ended up down in motorcity discarded and glitched out at two separate times, and now they work together. Elrena (no animal) does a lot of mechanic work because she hung around for so long and bothered Lauriam so much that they became friends, so she's ours now. Player (no animal) is head of kitchen crew because that's me and I like cooking and we were missing an important role in the hotel! So!

Ephemer has a car that looks ancient but has a whole harpoon on it, called Polaris. It's kinda star themed, kinda bear themed, kinda icy. Skuld has a whole fire snake thing going on, her car is also starry, blue fire version. It's called Ophiuchus, and it doesn't look quite as old, but it's long, and has a whip/morning star/metal junk projectiles thing. Brain's car isn't used that often, but he has a dog/wild dog theme, and it's called Vulpecula. It has a chain/traps/buffs/debuffs thing. Lauriam obviously has a gardeny mythical car, Cygnus, it is very new and shiny. it has. a lot of weapons also DUH he uses a scythe in hand to hand. Strelitzia isn't old enough to drive yet, but she's learning, and they're gonna build her a car of her own. Her animal will be the heron, and she'll help with groundskeeping until she specializes. Ven and Vani share a car, Gemini Lux, because Vani can't drive and Ven can't aim very well. Ven can drive extremely well and Vani likes to shoot things (they were pilot and combat cadet experiments respectively). They have a tank of a musclecar with two cannons on the back, wing/claw motifs, and a b/w theme.

Ephy and Skuld started this effort, it was ephemer's idea to built a resort in Motorcity. After it really started working, though, they were both in. Brain popped in because a) he prefers not to fight so often and wanted somewhere quiet to work but b) he likes the message and is REALLY good at what he does. Which is important, since the next person they found was Ven, glitched out on the side of the lake and trying really hard not to hurt anyone even if his programming was yelling at him to attack. Brain fixed him up :] after which Lauriam joined, searching for his sister, who turned out to be doing a weird rogue thing with a broken H.O.U.N.D they have all kept and named Chirithy. She tried to attack Ven on sight but it's chill now. Vani joined the main group last by doing pretty much the same thing as ven, just a lot more violently (everyone needs to STOP ATTACKING VENTUS he is NOT made of STEEL. MOSTLY.). They're a legitimate company family at this point.

Daybreak Town as a resort is pretty beachside typical, very relaxed, everyone has soft hawaiian shirts and shorts. They managed to rig some cables and controllers up for a warmer temperature and soft wind from the lake, even if they can't have the sky. They also RIGOROUSLY clear out pollution so people can swim in it, they have constant beef with a certain deluxe garbage chute. It's also: pretty big!

I stick this in here and say hesitantly,,, no.,,,, because I want the khdr kids +aqua/terra to be in a samurai themed gang LMAO-- I think it would be cool if there was a bit of rivalry/comraderie between the Dandelions and these guys, or if the dandelions broke off from them and that's why all their cars have latin names, or something. Xehanort and Eraqus run their gang after usurping it from their previous leaders, who were extremely strict and had led their subordinates to infighting and sabotage. They vowed to do better, but running a business is hard, and they can't see themselves trending in a similar direction...

idk what their name would be. But they're very much samurai-jedi-apocalyptic car gang members, meticulously clean, down to murder. Good outfits. Cool base building design. I... also want to either keep Baldr as the final straw from their last leaders (he snapped and killed a lot of people allowing xeha and eraqus to take control) or keep him here as a berserker in a cool battering ram swords car. Characters stick around too long

Even now I still stand by the notion that some of KH’s problems is the sheer refusal to leave a character be. Which isn’t the only reason but I do think it’s one of them.

When the only thing that invests people is their trios then you’ll do what you can to keep them invested. (even if it takes random new rules or convoluted schemes to keep them around)

Which is a bit ironic since they’ve done their best to erase Final Fantasy cameos as the series go on but that is a character attachment rant of my own and I’d like to avoid my own hypocrisy for this post.

Onto my tangent

Knowing how much attachment and headcanon people have for characters makes me skeptical this will be read beyond here but hopefully I’ll get a few responses. (cause I like to hear calm opinions)

I’ll be blunt, I think there’s a few major issues with writing decisions we all dislike. One is that KH only has one or two writers that even follow along with Nomura’s plans (including himself). Second is that nearly every member of the cast we have is a clone of another.

And most importantly, I feel another huge issue is fans and Nomura’s refusal to let a character just bow out. They keep dragging them back. And I understand that many have a very strong emotional attachment to some to these characters even if I dont know why. (since more traits are fan assigned headcanon or manga added)

This love isn’t an issue in of itself and, given how little the games will develop a person, you need these manga/novel traits or headcanons. However, this turns into an issue when they deter progression for other things or characters just to appease what is viewed as unfair.

Sure, many of these characters had unfair lives. That tragedy is a big (if not only imo) reason that they got such followings. I also dont think they should just be left, what I think is they needed resolution. And I will grant you, how I’d resolve some of them differently than many others.

I mean, think about it, how neglected was Roxas screentime in Days, Strelitzias everything, or Kairi’s time just to focus on something else? How many random rules did DDD add to “fix” something that already had a clear means in canon to be saved or resolved?

It’s hard not to sound like I”m hating on characters that, in truth, I feel nothing for at all but any form of opinion or critique these days is seen as “hate”. Gotta love the close minded nature of the internet amirite?

How many of you have sit down and asked the questions like; “would I even care about this character if their story wasnt’ sad?” “what purpose does this character serve now?”

LIke Roxas, Xion, Namine, or Axel. What purpose did they have beyond their initial focus? Axel’s keyblade felt forced, Roxas and Xion just kinda popped back in, and of the four, Namine did the most by contacting Terra. Of course, you can miss that last bit due to how missed Namine’s scene in KH3 is.

What purpose does it serve to put present characters in the KHUX’s story? I can see Luxu or the MoM reappearing in the future because they vanished prior to that war. It’s a bit lame KHUX was remolded to such relevance but that alone is annoying but passable.

But why does Ven have to be from the past? Or Marluxia and Larxene? What does this do? I know lots of people wanted the lives of some Org members explained...even if I can’t understand why.

At this point I know I’m rambling but I’m truly just baffled by it. It’s adding stuff to things that dont need it while ignoring things that could use it. Kairi is so neglected that anything they try to do now feels forced.

Strelitzia was the first new character in a while, a female at that, and she was killed off two weeks to the day of being introduced. What fucking purpose does that serve but to add to the intrigue of human Marluxia?

Hell, why did KHUX have to keep going? That initial run as a browser game was damn good. It was a self contained mystery story. It explained what a war was, it explained how Sora’s world even formed. Look at it now though, it’s a cycle apparently, there’s timelines all around, and it continues to drag in present cast into it’s fold to artificially grow.

Fuc it I am just rambling with no point now. I should wrap this up, I am sorry.

At the end of the day I am just horribly annoyed that things seem to happen for no reason or time is wasted to explain a revival and I’m horribly annoyed when someone is ignored to explore a character that’s lived beyond their point.

I believe in resolution and I think so much of KH would’ve flowed better if the story had it.

Edit: For fun, how would’ve resolved it? I’ll list my ramble below-

Chi/UX? That would’ve ended at the initial war. No time traveling, no present cast, that story would exist to explain Luxu, the MoM, and the war. If need be, you could even remake it as a console title but never artificially keep its story alive.

And dont tell me Chi kept going to answer unanswered questions cause we’re now on UX and still dont know anything.

Roxas, Namine, Xion, and Axel? These people had the perfect chance for resolution in DDD. Sora was in a realm that could manifest them. They could’ve been a great tool to show Sora’s darkness grow. Whether they lived on as dreams or Joshua reincarnated them, they should’ve stopped here.

TAV? I felt Aqua’s story should’ve resolved in KH3 or even the Secret Episode of BBS. I wouldn’t have kept Ven nor Vanitas around past BBS and I still would’ve had Terra (as the Lingering Will) help destroy Terranort. Whether he got his body back or died you can decide.

Xehanort? For the love of anything you deem holy, do not try to redeem him. He was developed ok for a villain till DDD turned him into Aizen and invalidated the series till then. He definitely didn’t need to be passed off as he was in KH3. Just let me end the fucker. I dont care about his wishywashy motives at this point.

And the nobodies? No, never, recompletion is a sad way to bypass death. I hate it and Xehanort (and at this point, Luxu) didn’t even need it to return.

I don’t think I’m arguing, I’m just proving that Kingdom Hearts is not the only story/series to play that card, we’ve had a number of stories where the real villain doesn’t get revealed until much further down the line after we’ve dealt with their minions or a side threat. A good example that fits what you described is Assassin’s Creed, we’re meant to believe it’s Assassin’s vs. Templars but then in the third game (and a non-numbered one at that), we see the first appearance of what would be the main villain but it’s only until 2 games later does she reveal her sinister intent and her plan doesn’t even get set into motion until a game or two later (one of which can be considered a side game). Continuing with the Harry Potter parallel, you mention Voldemort being the villain in the first book but connected to Quirrell, I could say the same about Ansem in KH1, he’s Xehanort’s Heartless, he’s connected to Xehanort and as future games show, he is a part of Xehanort, technically that should count. The same can be said for Xemnas in KH2, not only is 2 the first game in which Xehanort is named and Xemnas has a greater connection to the story considering his connection to both Terra and Xehanort and until BBS, he was the closest thing we had to the nature of Xehanort (since he takes the image of Terra-Xehanort and he was integral to the plan of the 13 Darknesses). Just because Birth By Sleep is not a numbered game doesn’t mean it should be discounted as having relevant information, I mean what, should it have been called Kingdom Hearts 0 or something, it’s a prequel, you can’t really add a number on it. Also yes, I do think Kingdom Hearts makes sense and I will keep defending that position until the world ends. What part of the story doesn’t make sense within the given set of rules that we’ve been presented with within the game? If you’re trying to argue that it doesn’t make sense because time travel is involved or how Ven can be over 1,000 years old then I don’t think you’re paying attention to the story, I mean this is a series that begins with Sora having a dream where he’s walking from platform to platform of stain-glass images of Disney Princesses while a disembodied voice tells him about the darkness within the heart. A voice I might add is either Mickey Mouse or Ven. And let’s talk about Ven, at least in BBS, here’s a guy who was on the verge of death because part of his soul had been ripped apart and is only saved because he was in close proximity to Sora who had just been born and offered to share a part of his soul to keep Ven alive and then come the end of the game, when Ven’s soul has been completely shattered, it seeks sanctuary within Sora’s soul while the body sleeps for 12 years, never aging (I know I say soul, it’s easier than saying Heart for this argument). The games are already running on Disney logic since the opening of the first game and you’re telling me that the games don’t make sense? When it comes to the rules that have been presented within the world of Kingdom Hearts, most of it is not broken, there might be a few slip ups but there’s little to no real plot holes and anything that hasn’t been explained yet can be explained in KH3. Please tell me what part of Kingdom Hearts doesn’t make sense even after all that’s been explained, I’ll admit it’s long and detailed, very detailed but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense and I’ve never once said “Ok, how the fuck does that work”.

You’re trying to make the series sound more complicated than it actually is by saying things like “It’s Final Fantasy meets Disney but with elements of Star Trek and Star Wars”, it’s like what doesn’t have elements of Star Trek and Star Wars, fuck, Star Wars takes elements from Lord of the Rings among other pieces of fiction, should we just lump them into the list of things that Kingdom Hearts plays like? I mean Christopher Lee played Ansem and he also played Saruman so that totally means Kingdom Hearts is now taking elements from Lord of the Rings.
