Ok. Ok. I have so many thoughts I dont think they're going to fit into the tags so I'm just going to try and write them plaintext and hope that makes them a little more coherent.
Just from the beginning we have the frame tinted green. It's the color of the city, the color that accompanies Jerry, nominally Poppy's color, the color of hostility. But I think this is the first time we haven't seen it exhibeted from the higher powers- Jerry- the city- the fear of the people- it's coming from Teflon as he's cold- exacting. He doesn't want Poppy to get any ideas. Meanwhile Muskat and Tink are in the same room but they're set outside of the frame- tinted in the colors of saftey- of love- pinks and oranges and they look so tender, Kat brushing out Tink's hair, undoing Tink's braid so she doesn't have to resemble Poppy anymore. You've just beautifully divided these caracters- drawn the lines of this scene so subtly we can feel the distance between these two interactions happening in the same room- AUGH Every time it gets me.
And the way both Tef and Kat are showing their love- Kat reaching out with gentle direct affection- and Tef going straight for the heart of the problem. And HELL Tink's hairdoo!!!! Sheooks adorable with that wilde mane- but also I was looking at her trying to figure out what she reminds me of and then it hit me. KAT! She looks like the younger versions of Kat we see and oooohhhh that hit me right in the heart, on the warpath and everything. Gosh tink's face- resolute- furious- wild and kat's little smile off to the side. And the absolute devistation on Poppy's face- immediately she's fallen back on the dehumanizing language- the language Jerry uses to adress Tink- but the look on her face, it's not a matter of disrespect, not a lack of care, Poppy means it when she says creature.
"She's my blood" What a gut punch of a line. The duality of self deprication- of self awarness- Poppy knows exactly what she is. She knows exactly what she's done. She knows she's been a monster- I can only imagine she's wondering what she would have become if she had half the motive Tink does. Her vision of the future- of Tink in glorious tactical gear- with a flame thrower and Poppy beaten and disarrayed as everything around her goes up inflames. And suddenly you have to be in the mind of the last child Poppy technically had claim over. Jerry isn't Poppy's kid- not by blood no- but Jerry was a test tube baby in Poppy's lab- at the heart of Poppy's experiments. The last "daughter" Poppy had ruined her- took her revenge and Poppy's eye stripped her of her science and her class and her power- continues to taunt her. How can se expect anything else from Tink? It's aweful, its wretched, I will never stop thinking about it.
It's so interesting to see Kat and Tef's conflicting opinions on Poppy. Kat's endlessly gracious, endlessly forgiving, even though by all rights it was him who was personally dealt the greatest harm, but its Tef who remembers the horror of it, Tef who bore witness to the way Poppy betrayed them, the way she hurt them both, the way she hurt the man he loves. Muskat no idealist, he understands that the world they live in isn't kind, he knows it could be better, but compared to Tef he's the picture of an optimist. And you can feel Tef's coldness, the harsh way he adresses Poppy, the way he talks about her, it's the way he defends them, by being as brutally realist as he can. I'm reminded of the comic where he's trying not to soften towards Tink because he knows she'll be used against them, the way that Muskat presses him to set that aside and allow himself the joy tink would bring to them regaurdless of the reason she was given to him. It's just- you have such a strong grasp of your characters and I feel endlessly for them. I love them, I am gripped by them.
Gosh Poppy looks wrecked. But she's looked wrecked since the beginning of this comic. Her suit was a mess, but now she's not just rumpled, she's dirty, she's drunk, she's collapsed. And again we return to the shades of green! A subtle thing this time- the city and its hostility is a much more blue green than tef's hostility earlier which perhaps speaks to the fact that even though he rightly hates Poppy, resents her, he understands she's not in a great position either, he's a measure gentler than he might be if he didn't understand. And now! Jerry! Ephegenia!
The way she towers over this scene both because Poppy is literally on the ground and also because sheholds all the powerbetween them- and she's got her makeup on too- she's got her mask on. She's impervious. Atop the world. Gloating- until suddenly she isn't. It's interesting that when Poppy lashes out verbally, cuts the shit and just tells her to fuck off the green tint across her drops for a moment- the inherent hostility the power she holds- disrupted- momentarily broken in shock before it settles back into place.
You used a phrase to describe Poppy once that I think is really fitting- endlessly chipper. She's been beaten, broken- lost an eye, lost her status, lost her science, her friends, but she never lets the facade fall, its obvious it bothers her, otherwise she wouldn't pursue that stuff so doggedly, but she never lets anyone see it bothers her. The closest we've ever gotten is the scene with her protesting the council's unfair treatment, she was furious then, and I think these are the only times we've really see the mask fall… completely at least, and we can certainly infer it happened after the pregancy- but hell, even when Jerry sprung on her that Tink is her kid she didn't let the devistation sit with her, she denies it. Gosh Poppy is so compelling, the things that have stakes to her, her personal moral compass, her own feelings towards her atrocities, she comes across as ruthlessly pragmatic. She'll do Anything it takes. But you get the sense that she doesn't sleep easily for it, though she'd like you to beleive it.
To some extent, she doesn't seem to regret a great deal of what she did, but it still weighs on her, and in this moment you really feel that she's truly letting herself face the weight of what she's done, and wallow in it. She wants Jerry to leave her alone, not because she blames Jerry, but because she blames herself, and doesn't want Jerry rubbing her face in it.
I am endlessly curious to know what Ephegenia expected, Poppy to lash out, placing blame on everyone else, perhaps physically, as Ephegenia clearly expects and wants the proof that the convicts are violent, she wanted rage, but I don't think she expected misery.
This is utterly spectacular. I am absolutely captivated by your ability to convey mood and tone, and your beautiful expression work, and as always I am obsessed with you characters. Their story is deeply compelling to me and I am ever excited to see the turns it will take next.
this is not the personality development ephegenia had had in mind with her last move.
more about these characters here^^

hey no pressure to answer this but I'm really curious about some of the stuff you've said recently about Four's era kind of. avoiding looking backwards/being emotional and I was wondering if you had any more thoughts about that? I feel like it hits the reason I struggle to connect with Four but I can't put it into words myself o:
aw man, I actually have a lot of thoughts on this, but I've never bothered writing them down before, because I didn't see why anyone else would care to read them. I'm gonna enjoy answering this either way, but can I also say no pressure to read it all? Because I'm really sorry if this is like, way more than you bargained for but I want to make sure I elaborate on everything I say enough that people can understand why I feel this way, and that I'm not just coming from a place of negativity - so I know it's gonna wind up being long.
the short answer is I totally agree he's hard to connect to, and I think it's down to a combination of the way he fits into the show/his status as the longest lasting and most iconic version, and the show's to-do list while he was in the role.
Also, I won't tag it, even though I'm really not trying to say I don't like him (because I do, just not as much as all the other Doctors).
Long explanation starts here, enter at your own risk:
I'll just go ahead and say my most controversial Four opinion right at the beginning, shall I? It's not terribly important, but I wind up thinking of it often these days, for obvious reasons: I feel very reminded of Four's era when I hear arguments against current (Chibnall) Who. For the sake of clarity - I mean the real arguments, not the stupid 'not my doctor' misogynistic bs, but the people who point out that we don't know the main characters as well as we should given how long we've had them. Somehow, the focus has shifted (to what exactly, I'm not sure - I think hindsight will help with that, and seeing how he wants his era to end will of course give us a perspective we always already have on every show runner who isn’t the current one).
And that's the gist of why I find it hard to get invested in Four - somehow, despite being on television for the longest, I feel like I have seen the least moments showcasing Four's distinct character out of any other Doctor, before or after him. And, thinking it over, I think there are two main places where that feeling comes from:
1) Four as the "Default Doctor"
Before I watched the classic series, I was always slightly confused about what made Four the most iconic version of the character. I'm sure at some point I looked it up and saw that he'd been on the show the longest, and I knew he traveled with some companions that were so popular even I'd heard about them before I ever watched anything pre-2005. But I also think it goes past how long he was on the show, or how popular the show was in the 70s vs in the 60s or the 80s, for example. I think a lot of it really does have to do with the fact that Four's character could very much be described as the 'default' version of the Doctor as a whole. I'm not trying to say he doesn't have his own character traits, but his main traits are very Doctor-y things that really have to be part of every version of the character, just in different doses. He's strange and otherwordly, always intelligent but sometimes arrogant and insufferable about it, sometimes silly and comical about it. He's curious, and cares enough to get involved with helping people in the various places where the Tardis lands, but also aloof enough to maintain an air of mystery so that most people he meets don't know he and his friends are time travelers, and they don't form attachments to the places they pass through easily. He has a strong sense of right and wrong, and a desire to see things set right. The problem is, I don't know a single Doctor those things couldn't be said for, and then I run out of things to say about Four that seem like major parts of his character.
I realize that might sound a little biased, but even outside of how I personally compare Doctors, Four seems to get this treatment. Think of the short little epitaphs we often see defining and describing each Doctor, especially the classic ones. They aren't always the same, but you can usually guess what a person will say about 1 though 8 if they're only given a few words to identify them, either in a line on the show or a 'canon' short story or a social media post or whatever - One is known as the "grumpy grandfather" or something similar, Two is the "cosmic hobo," Three becomes the "Bond Doctor," Five usually gets something in the vein of "polite dad doctor," Six is the rude one, Seven is the chessmaster, Eight is the Romantic. But Four? How often is Four's description about his character, and how often is it about his appearance? Teeth and curls? The Scarf? The Jelly Babies or the Robot Dog? I don't think I'm imagining it when I say that more than any other Doctor, Four gets identified with superficial traits as his defining feature, rather than things that tell you at least a little about that Doctor's particular character traits, whether or not they're an accurate description for each incarnation.
Of course, there's a positive side to this too, and more than anything else, that has convinced me I'm not imagining it. I know one of the show's original creators (at the moment, I can't recall if it was Verity Lambert or Sydney Newman) is said to have admitted that Tom Baker's portrayal of the character was closest to what they originally had in mind when creating the series. And even if that turns out to be one of those flattering remarks used to market a new Doctor (I have no recollection of when the quote was from, during or after Four's run), it makes a lot of sense - Pertwee was the Doctor when the show went in an entirely unique and self-contained direction, Troughton's job was to continue the story but take the character into new territory, rather than trying to play Hartnell’s Doctor. On the other hand, Tom Baker really did come into the role at a point where it was possible, and even preferable story-wise, for the Doctor to fit into the original idea for the character, and just because I personally would prefer someone who is only one of many versions of a character (which was also not the case when Four was written, he was one of just 4) to stand out from the others more starkly, that doesn't mean that it was a bad choice to make him more generic.
This actually links up kind of nicely with my second big bullet point:
2) During Four's run, the writers were focused on lots of things that weren't character development.
Four's era had a lot going on, and his writers were on the whole pretty game to take the show in new directions and pour their attention into committing to that, which I will never really condemn for Doctor Who. I believe quite firmly that the show's ability to change so much is one of its strongest points, and even though I develop obvious personal favorites, I'm always pro-changing it up every so often, and I don't even want my favorite eras to go on forever. I've also been surprised by what I did like on this show many times, so I rarely know what direction I want it to go in, but even when I'm not as in love with one period as I could be, I'm never really put off by it because I know at any moment it could turn into something I happen to really vibe with.
So I'm not trying to criticize the fact that the show did go in so many different directions while Four was the Doctor, but I think it's important to remember just how much was going on at the time. For one, they pulled the show all the way out of the earthbound/UNIT focus that had been a staple for years at that point, and eventually changed it back to baseless wanderings through space. They also experimented with more interlinked stories than the show had ever done before at that point - first with the way every story in Four's first season led directly into the others, and then later with the introduction of Series-long arcs (Key to Time) and smaller multi-story arcs (E-Space Trilogy). While all this was happening, they also spent a good chunk of Four's era delving into themes & tropes - like the run of Gothic Horror stories, some of which involved directly adapting parts of existing classics like Frankenstein and the Phantom of the Opera, and figuring out how best to incorporate everything that goes along with that. Later on, they had Douglas Adams at the helm, and even though the show had always been funny, Comedy became a more focused element of the show than it ever had been before. And throughout all this, there were always periodic stories taking us back to Gallifrey (or Skaro) and really really expanding on the lore/backstory/world building/whatever you want to call it.
One of the reasons I like how often Doctor Who changes is because I know it can't be all things to all people at all times. It's real job is to tell episodic, self-contained science fiction stories, and once you have a stand-alone plot and characters for the current adventure, there's only so much room in a serial for whatever else you want to put in - and when Four was the Doctor, there were a lot of other things they wanted to incorporate, so I don't think it's unfair to say that character insights often took a backseat to those other priorities.
The thing that illustrates this the most clearly for me is Four's Companions' entrances and exits - because those moments are some of the simplest & easiest ways to get all the characters to show some emotion and open up about how they really feel about one another (and themselves!), even if they don't usually do so. And Four has so many companions, it should be easy to get some insights into his character through those relationships, right? But then you think about it.
To address the entrances first: Four inherits Sarah Jane from Three (and on top of that, she already knows about regeneration, so it isn't quite the Big Deal with a sideplot about trusting the 'new' Doctor that it was with Ben and Polly or even Rose, for example). Harry Sullivan gets invited along as a prank that gets out of hand. Leela invites herself aboard, Romana gets assigned to Four, and Adric sneaks into the Tardis as a stowaway. He meets Nyssa and Tegan as Four but doesn't really travel with them until he becomes Five, but even then, Nyssa’s planet gets destroyed so she has nowhere else to go, and he supposedly intends to return Tegan home from the start.
And the end result of all of this is, we never once get to see Four meet somebody and decide he likes them enough to ask them to travel with him. Companion introductions are usually moments where we can get a glimpse of the Doctor's real feelings - we see who they admire, and how much or how little they struggle to admit that to the person. We hear what they think is worth it and exciting about the life they already lead in the Tardis, and how they'd convince someone else to join them. But with Four, we miss out on every opportunity for even a small moment like that. Yeah, Eleven's long-awaited scene with Amy or his multiple offers to different Claras were probably too much to hope for at this point, but even the smaller emotional beats of One inviting Vicki along or Two warning Zoe about the dangers would've been stand-out moments for someone like Four, who so rarely shows us how he feels.
Then when you look at the exits, it's almost worse (in terms of missed opportunities for character development, I mean) - because every single one of Four's companions leaves voluntarily, and usually, without any great threat/pressing reason/difficult choice for them to go. Including K-9. Twice. Now, I’m not trying to say all companions need to be tragically and permanently ripped away from life on the Tardis like the modern show frequently does, but Four’s era really seems to have gone out of its way to steer clear of anything that could’ve been emotional or revealing. UNIT, the Brig, Benton, and Harry all disappear without acknowledgment, and Romana I literally dies and regenerates offscreen, with no explanation and hardly any comment on it ever given onscreen. There’s so little resistance on all sides when companions exit the show, mainly because there’s so little time spent on their decisions and the aftermath, so naturally it winds up carrying a bit of an implication that leaving the Doctor isn’t really something most companions are all that unwilling to do, and that can cast a shadow of doubt over the rest of their relationship as well, especially when it was never something the show focused on too much in the first place.
I feel like it's important that I point out - I'm not trying to say there wasn't any emotion when Sarah Jane or Romana left, and I'm not trying to argue that those relationships weren't as important to the Doctor as other Doctor’s companions, because I think we all know they were, or at least, were supposed to be - but I do think the writers in Four's time were significantly less interested in spending airtime proving that than those of some other eras were.
Four is a rather private and unemotional Doctor, and I get that, but there’s a difference between a character being unwilling to open up to other characters, and writers choosing not to foreground that character’s inner thoughts and values in what they present to the audience. Plenty of other Doctors keep things to themselves or put on a brave faces for their companions, but a lot of the time, their writers will use that to highlight the contrast of even a few short moments where the audience, if no one else, gets to see through that - but with Four that doesn’t seem to have been something anyone was interested in doing.
That’s why the companions entrances & exits stick out to me as so significant - even if you don’t want the plot of the show to revolve around them or the Doctor’s relationships with them, those are natural points that present themselves as easy opportunities to spend a little time showing us what’s going on in the Doctor’s head and in his heart - and you’d think, if you had a character who didn't like showing their emotions and admitting to missing people, and you wanted to give the audience a glimpse of how much they really do care for their companions - because that level of character depth was important to you - you might put them in a more difficult/tragic position once or twice, just so you could be excused if they did let the facade slip. So when all of Four’s companions decide they want to leave him, we loose yet another easy opportunity to gain some insight into how Four feels about people, on top of the ones we’ve already missed at their entrances.
That's why I put this all under "the writers had other priorities" - I think it's less of a question of Four's character vs any other Doctor, and more just a side effect of what we see on screen. One isn't known for being the most open Doctor ever, but we still get to see how sad he is that Ian and Barbara left when he talks with Vicki after they're gone. Most people wouldn't say Victoria is the most important companion to ever be on the show, but after the plot of Fury from the Deep is wrapped up, we have several scenes devoted to her departure, and the only reason to include them is because of their emotional weight. In other words, we never would’ve gotten those scenes if Fury was a Fourth Doctor story, presumably because it wouldn’t have been deemed important enough.
Four's episodes definitely acknowledge (and even at times, directly state) how much he cares for his companions, but for a run so long there are shockingly few moments when the audience gets to see him reflecting on that, and it can't just be that there was never any time - it also had to be that it wasn't on these writers' radar as much as it must have been for, say, whoever decided we needed those shots of Three driving alone in the sunset after Jo leaves, just to underscore his loneliness.
I don't think showcasing the main characters' relationships or inner thoughts, feelings, and emotions was ever a main priority of the people creating Four's era, but hey, those are the kind of trade-offs writers need to make when they want to do something different with a long-running show - plus, loads of people love Four's era and his character, so it can't have totally backfired. Maybe a lot of fans of him and his companions are specifically the kind of people who like to see characters they're told matter to each other in the actual source material, and enjoy having the freedom to fill in the gaps about their relationship in their own imagination - I do genuinely admire people like that. But personally, I think I needed there to be a little more to latch onto in order to feel like I really knew Four, which is why, even though I find it impossible to actually rank all the Doctors, he's always the one I feel the least attached to.
I don't think he's a bad Doctor and I don't even really like calling him my least favorite, even though I know he has to be. I just feel like, somehow, I know him the least - and since I think all 13 Doctors are genuinely good and interesting characters, that automatically places all the ones I feel I understand better and more deeply ahead of him, before I even get into which ones I happen to vibe with the most. Even in Eight’s one movie or Nine’s one season, I feel like we see more of what's going on in their head and in their heart than we do after years of Four, which made his run a bit disappointing for me, honestly.
I know that to some degree, the obvious answer is that I should go look at his EU stuff, since those are the kinds of gaps fans and storytellers are most likely to seize upon, but I haven't done that too much for Four. In general, I'm driven to seek out extended universe books and audios when there's a character I'm already really attached to that I just want more content for, not out of curiosity about characters I know less well - that's why I've listened to more audios with Donna Noble than with the Eighth Doctor. Of course, there's also a financial element to that, since EU stuff is harder to find in libraries and streaming services - if I'm going to spend money on something, I do kind of want to know it'll be something I'll enjoy enough to return to, instead of just listening to it once to learn more about a character. But who knows, maybe at some point in my life when I'm less concerned about rent, I'll have time to get to know Four better.
Right now, I've only come across him in the EU when he appears in a multi-Doctor story - I like those for the same reason I don't super like Four's TV run: I enjoy getting to hear what the Doctor thinks of their other selves, and how being confronted with their past or future affects them personally. His cameo in Deleted Scenes was nice because even though he had to be prompted into action by Sarah Jane, it demonstrated how much he values both her and Jamie. The only story from his own range (Fourth Doctor Adventures) that I've listened to is Fate of Krelos/Return to Telos because I knew it tied in with a TV episode I liked (and I’ll be honest, it was on sale). Obviously, I enjoyed going back to Two & Jamie in that audio, but even before we got to their part I was already appreciating the dynamic he had with Leela. That relationship is a whole other issue I have with Four's era on TV, of course, but I also find that racist & colonial 'civilizing the savage' plot to be so hard to believe coming from someone like the Doctor, who does nothing but travel through time, appreciating and valuing people and cultures that are supposedly "less advanced" than his own, that I can't really see it as anything other than bad, out-of-character writing from some white english men. It strikes me as such a plothole I try not to hold it against the character, even though it does seriously affect my ability to enjoy a lot of his run.
In Krelos though, they start the audio getting ready to go fishing, which I thought was friendlier and more domestic than Leela and Four usually were in the 70s - and, when they find something of Jamie's in the old console room, not only is Four clearly affected by it, but Leela's able to call him out on it and ask questions about Jamie and the past, and he manages to answer several of them and dwell on it a bit while still being appropriately mysterious - which again, I thought was both a) more of and b) better than their relationship as seen on TV.
I feel like most of Four's Big Finish stuff is probably (hopefully) similar in terms of showing deeper, more developed (and yes, less racist) relationships between Four and his companions, but I can't quite say I'm invested in him enough to actually put in the work to find out.
On the brighter side, since I hardly ever rewatch Four’s stories, I can say that any time I do wind up seeing one, I’m automatically sent back to the first time I ever watched classic who, since it’s much fresher in my mind for those stories than the ones I return to frequently. So even though I didn’t grow up with Four (I was born in the 90s), I do sort of understand what it’s like to go back to those for nostalgia alone.
Between that and the multi-Doctor stories, I think I do alright at finding ways to enjoy him, but no, I don’t think I’ve ever found a way to properly connect with him as a character.
#honestly thank u for the q#sorry for the essay tho#part of it is i've thought about this so many times i cant tell what i had to explain and what it was safe to take 4 granted#also i know i said my most unpopular opinion was about comparing it to the current era#but on an entirely unrelated note - i hate the scarf#i know thats probably like sacrilege or something but it's true#im fine with everything about it except how long it is#if it's gonna be that long it needs to be doubled up more#i spent so many Kinda Boring 4 episodes just being stressed about how much of a tripping hazard it was#and literally wondering what kinda bacteria it was picking up on all these planets' floors he was dragging it all over#that's def my lamest complaint but still#i dont wanna stress about the safety of a scarf when im supposed to be focused on an episode#yeah sometimes when you've watched almost 60 years of a show one or two plots get repetitive or boring#more direct & engaging character development = a good distraction from that#scarf hazard = bad distraction#god i hope this ramble makes sense#im in no position to tell anymore

It's Morphin Time! (Power Rangers review)
spoilers for Power Rangers (2017)
side note: I only watched a few episodes as a kid so I’m not going to pick up on inside jokes/won’t be pointing out comparisons. // I’m white and not autistic so when taking about representation keep that in mind // cw (lite): rape culture, suicide
much more enjoyable than the original breakfast club.
property damage
that was... a lot
and I’m not even referring to the big battle at the end; arguably they could have played it differently (and I mean that on both a watsonian and a doylist perspective) but Big Boss Battle, I give those passes, (superhero) movies tend to think they need them. (and are only so-so wrong.) But before that (and superpowers in general) we have: a damaged school/cow, a car chase at the school, a car accident, a mine blasting, a car chase at the mine, and a car-meets-train accident.
and while we see, yanno, happy survivors at the end, I’m wondering if they are going to address the major damage done to the town.
good thing they have masks. and knew to ditch out of there while still in celebration mode.
this was small town america, dependent on mining and fishing. (which - interesting choice of location because it made the movie very compacted, and it also stressed a lot of the push-pull of teenagers and their struggles. this should definitely become a theme as the franchise goes on - the desire to leave with the duty to stay and protect)
I know! use all that fucking spent gold Rita left behind!
I mean the jewelry store can at least provide receipts but what’s the mine gonna say? “yeah, that chunk of arm definitely came from Shaft 37″
speaking of - they are so damn reckless!
so reckless!
and I mean it’s kind of great because a) how fitting for teenagers in general, like this movie is 95% of the time going “they are teenagers!” (with all the middle finger to mortality and boneheadedness and earnestness and finding your place/friends/family that comes with it), and b) because it comes in various forms to fit the specific characters well, and c) its great tactic for skipping over the whole “wtf superpower freakout”
but also - thank bob they got some magic healing stones cause they all almost die a few times before the whole superhero gig even kicks in. that car chase at the mine (both the recklessness and the loyalty of helping each other) is an excellent establishing intro to them cause wtf power rangers
like arguably the least reckless is Billy, who is introduced as bribing a kid to drive him over so he can blow up a mine in the growing dark that almost kills another kid (how did Trini survive that fall with barely a bruise? magic). and he’s the LEAST reckless.
the real question - did he just happen to learn how to disable the tracker before this, has he actually done this before, or did he learn how before Jason came over that night?
but I say least reckless because the majority of his recklessness comes from love/loyalty - the mine visits originally for his dad, everything else for his friends
but we have Zack - taking care of a terminal ill parent and so his things are about pushing limits, that more, more, more (or out, out, out) feeling, being wild, flirting with that “death wish” - because that’s a way to act out his fear, that’s a way to be out of control in a controlled way (he can’t control that, but he can control this), that’s a way to say fuck you to death, that’s just part of his personality of ‘I’m gonna touch it’
100% he is the person who presses the red button that says ‘do not press’
also its funny that he just hangs around the mine; full assumption on my part but it fits if his mom got sick from the mine, and he - to avoid finding out if she dies during the night, if the last of his family is gone - visits the root of it
Jason: I think there’s arguably a few ways of looking at it:
the growing pressure of familial/town obligations of being the golden boy are too much, and he‘s acting out to blow off steam
how he touches his knee made me wonder if he was getting an injury, and (sub)consciously wanted to get out of playing more football, either because he’s afraid of damaging it more or because he thinks it’s better to get kicked off on purpose than have it fail him/have to leave for something he can’t control
small town football stars are the weirdest mix of celebrity/adoration* and teenager, and some people don’t handle that well and turn to other means to get that attention, and adrenaline
* adoration that is temporary and/or dependent on their skills
some combo of the above
but anyway he’s “dumb stunts” reckless, and brings other people (and cows) into it, and his arc as leader means figuring out a balance for that, bringing them to necessary danger but not getting them killed
Trini is “outsider” - and the movie supplemented that with actual queerness (more on that below); like she runs from the group, she questions whats really bringing them together (are we friends?), Rita pinpoints that as her weakness, her character arc/turning point is when she immediately tells the others. and her recklessness is towards the self, esp her body - like she trespasses into the mine to practice stretches/meditation, the train run (IIRC she’s the one whose like “eh, hope we make it”), she uses her powers to get away (did she know she could make that jump before she did it because her powers became apparent in less the ‘destructive of an item’ way and more like Zack’s in which it was pushing physics?)
I think its arguable she’s had issues with drugs. like the movie stresses three years for her (her growing distance/quiet coming with her sexuality questioning), and her mom just happens to have a pee cup on standby? that’s a long time period to keep testing a kid who never shows up as positive. I mean maybe her mom’s just reacting in more and more extreme measures and this is the latest version... also the way her dad intercedes with her mom’s questions, I wonder if that’s his natural role in the family or if that came out of therapy.
I really don’t think she’s presented as suicidal in the film, but I think there’s an underlining implication that can be read where AU this superpower thing didn’t happen she goes in that direction (she is isolated by her “other” status within her family, by being the new kid at school, and so on)
Kimberly is self-destructive; its thoughtlessness and impulsiveness (and meanness) coming out to swallow her and take who she can with her. cutting her hair, diving at night at the quarry, her “revenge porn” (and way more on that below), even breaking into Jason’s room to tell him about why she was in detention
there’s no “is it superpowers??????” which I immensely appreciate; it’s “something weird is happening and we need to figure out what.”
they killed Billy. and yeah, happy they bought him back, but they still killed him.
and since I hadn’t actually watched the trailer all the way through, and I feel like a Power Ranger died in the original series (no clue if that’s accurate), and Billy’s Black and on the spectrum, yeah, I thought it was going to last.
his death was used for Zordon, Jason, and Kim’s character arc
I understand it was so each of the other four could carry him together, but the Jesus pose is still in way too many superhero and/or teenage protagonist movies
yeah yeah he was the heart of the team I get it; still could have done it without his death. or frankly Jason works, since he’s the leader (and its interesting that the heart of the group and the leader of the group are two different people) and everyone pulls together for the leader. but again, no death works
it made no sense that she killed him and left the other four alive. also I’m assuming she was powering the ropes to keep them in place but did it completely drain them of power? cause as we saw earlier, they can breathe underwater
David Christopher Bell pointed out that since The Dark Knight, villains need to a) not just kill the heroes but break their spirits and b) get caught as part of the master plan. and while the latter is the “reason” behind the scene - she needs to find the location, she somehow knows Billy knows (like she somehow knew Trini felt like an outsider) - the former ended up feeling like the motive for the scene.
actually she hits a couple more on the list - we don’t actually know her motive for turning (beyond “feeling like an outsider”) and the narrative treats her like she’s “unhinged” for no reason.
weirdly Zordon is not part of her motive? like him being “alive” is barely a sidenote to her
representation
well done Black Autistic Hero! like Billy uses the actual term (which is already more than a lot of characters do), he exhibits behaviors of it (speech patterns, special interests, joke recognition, touching, stimming, etc), and he’s a friggin hero (and no one questions his capability to be one)
so Jason is the main; he has more screen time, his emotional arc is devoted the most space, he & his are the the inciting incident - a. his introduction into detention is the opening change that starts the story and b. his dad brings Rita out of the water (though maybe she could only be brought out after the gems are found?) - and he’s the leader of the team. however, Billy serves as the heart of the team, and the movie (usually through Jason, non-negatively) points out several times that he is behind finding the gems, and he’s the one who brings Jason to the mine. so Jason is the main but if they had tweaked the script a little Billy would have been.
Zack is not stereotypical/usual. (first off he’s played by an actual Asian actor, ba dum tss). but he’s poor, small family, while he wasn’t given a romance he didn’t come across as desexualized, he exchanged just pure slugging it out punches with Jason (instead of the “all (East) Asian (men) know martial arts” trope), he’s not nerdy or an airhead (the two extremes for school tropes), he loves his mom and outside of caretaking we also see them enjoy each other (high five over their chess game), he’s super f-ing reckless (let me just jump on this speeding car wtf Zack you didn’t know you had powers at that point), when established they speak Chinese together they don’t suddenly switch to (accented) English because that’s too many subtitles for an American audience
Trini: queer Mexican girl. like, I’ve seen the arguments for both sides of this - on the one end: she’s questioning (and feels so alone in it) so it fits she doesn’t have a label for herself, and on the other there’s been a growing trend of movies getting points for the tiniest overt queerness. because this is an introduction into a franchise and she’s a main character and the crew/cast are vocal about it and while she didn’t have a label it was connected to her arc (outsider status/isolation -> group friendship), I felt more on the ok end of it, though I would have definitely liked at least a little more vocalization. And this is definitely dependent on how they deal with it going forward, and I also agree with people who think it was not enough, especially since they chose to have her character in the early stages of questioning her identity and while that’s a legitimate storyline it’s not the only one.
a really good solution would have been to have Zack say he’s pan or bi.
more queer rep always
like, did you watch him? (flirting mode towards everyone: activated)
it means we see someone with a labeled identity and someone questioning, and it enriches the scene between them, and it gives more weight/overtness to her sexuality (aka the movie itself isn’t shying away from labels, this specific character is cause she’s still figuring it out)
the start of queering them all. all of them.
Kim is played by a biracial (Indian & white) actress. I can’t really speak to how that fits into the romance trope - she’s not white (the “Girlfriend Role” works differently for WOC), but Asian women are hypersexualized (the gratuitous bra shot, with Jason looking on without her knowledge)... basically I’m not familiar with how Indian women specifically fit into this conversation and it’s really not my place to say. I personally felt they erred too much on the romance for her, because the scenes with her and Jason together felt much more tied to Jason‘s arc* than hers or both of theirs, and she felt sexualized in the movie in a way the rest of them didn’t, so overall I wish they kept it a little more subtle than they did. but again not my judgement to make in terms of representation.
* the hallway walk, the quarry scenes... those feel like the Manic Pixie Girl/Girlfriend Role (”let’s run, right now”) and since her arc was a little less clear than the others it feels like the problem with that stems from the romance, even if it didn’t necessarily.
However let’s talk about her backstory, the biggest twist in a movie I’ve seen in years.
raise your hand if you thought she was getting the ‘sexually assaulted and fought him off and former friends/mean girls attack her for being a slut’ story. *raises hand* and instead she leaked her friend’s nude to a dude with a sex-shaming comment (who spread it to the whole school and/or besides to the dude Kim sent it to the school). PLOT TWIST.
except lemme say - this is a huge violation. HUGE. leaking nudes is not just a mistake or a bad choice, its a violation and it affects the leaked person for the rest of their life and its a well deserved criminal offense. (at least Jason’s ankle monitor suggests there’s some kind of police punishment that came with the huge amounts of damage he did - though talk about a light sentence good thing you’re a football player/white dude - but her punishment is just detention?) and I definitely need a lot more on the redemption arc beyond ‘stops being a mean girl who doesn’t recognize her actions for as damaging as they are until the consequences are shoved into her face’, esp because she’s only partly sorry. She’s sorry about what she did, yes, I believe that, but there’s also several instances (like when their cafeteria dishes melt, or the car gets smashed) where she smirks when they get in trouble. (That she’s the victim in this situation.) And with that, the narrative smirks at them too, because they’re mean girls and they cut her out; except she’s in the wrong! she completely violated Elizabeth! they’re allowed to be petty/mean back to her! It’s implied she basically leaked the nude because ‘why not,’ she deserves to get some shitty treatment back at her!
one of the main rules was “don’t use your powers for personal gain.” IDK if this is going to come up in the franchise, but if it does I’m assuming - if it’s not the whole group - it’s going to be either her or Zack. Zack because of his sick mom (external force), her because of her personality (internal force).
eta: in a convo with clari-clyde she pointed out that Jason tells her she’s not a bad person when yeah, she was a bad person. ("i would‘ve liked it better if jason said, you chose to be a bad person, but you can also choose to be a good person. you can make poor bad choices, building on that bad choice. or you can start making good choices, and start transforming yourself.”) and I agree. Kim didn’t do a mean thing, she is a mean person (the photos just being the latest and a REALLY BIG DEAL), and the narrative both understands that weight (her self-hatred/angst is about it) while treating it as less damaging than it is (how it somewhat tries to victimize her, and by virtue of getting the stone/superpowers.) once we learn Kim’s backstory her power walk (after cutting her hair) back into detention takes on new meaning, and not in a good way; she’s apologetic in the scene with Jason, but we don’t really see evidence of that in her treatment of her actual victims. (its the common redemption arc of tv white dudes - the idea that feeling bad is enough to redeem them, as opposed to them actually doing something to redeem themselves.) and one of the reasons her arc fell a little flat to me is because her backstory (leaked nude) and her end result (being a power ranger) are really not connected, both in context and through the group. everyone else’s arc was interwoven into them becoming a group, while her arc was interwoven with Jason only.
and in addition to that, Jason “forgiving her” gets tied back into their romantic undertones (removed kiss or not), so that it comes across more as “I like you, therefore you are not a bad person,” instead of acknowledging she was actually a bad person, but she can make actual steps into changing that.
Zordon & Alpha 5 downloaded the English matrix and can converse fine but “teenagers” is the one word to throw them off. which a) suggests Zordon and his group/people don’t distinguish that grouping - which makes sense, the term is only like a 100yrs old, but more importantly b) is beautiful shot at Marvel. I mean, I don’t know if that’s why they did it, but after that Civil War nonsense I’m reading it as one anyway. feel free to join me.
music - a little uneven. like for the majority of the film it was unobtrusive, with “HandClap” during the training montage brought into the narrative with Billy and Alpha 5 clapping, and then at the end there was the tv theme song (fair enough) but it cut off quick, as did the other (loud) song during those scenes too, and the one after the other nature of it was abrupt sounding.
I liked the training montage.
ok, so Jason can fight, we see that (dodge the bully’s fist), plus he’s an athlete. and Kim is an ex-cheerleader (and apparently recreational diver), aka an athlete. (athletes in football and cheerleading tend to have: body strength, quick pattern recognition, inclined towards multitasking & teamwork, can take a damn hit, etc.) we see Trini doing a stretch routine and taking out Zack in the pit and both she and Zack are suggested to have some parkouring. Billy is probably the least experienced, esp when it comes to fighting (and notable he’s the one that gets the basic boxing/punching routine), but he runs around a mine and like the others seems to be a good swimmer. so it comes across as less unbelievable that they can pick this up, esp because for the most part their fighting strategy is to hit the dirt monsters until they fall apart and we see them practicing (over and over again) the specific move that took Rita down. (also I was literally thinking ‘what, they can suddenly move as one with no training’ and then the final evolution of their robot trips. I’ll give the movie some leeway on how they can control the dino bots so well - plus handwavy they’re plugged in and figured it out - because of that trip.)
they also show injuries.
ok except for Kim and Jason’s shirtless scene, the camera (and clothing department) treated them like teenagers, like they shouldn’t be needlessly sexualized for (adult) audiences. it’s fucked up that this is special enough to note, but its definitely special enough to note. (and they still did the ‘guy looks at half-naked woman without her permission’ thing, which is not ok, yes not even to the same girl who leaked the nudes.) there was Rita - she shows more skin the “prettier” she gets, her outfit at the jewelry store was esp “where did she get this?” - but at least she wasn’t playing a teenager. (and I don’t remember her actions towards them being sexualized, but I may just not be remembering it. eta: she definitely does have the sexualized vibe going with her adult victims though.
it was a fair job with the product placement and shoutouts (like Bumblebee and Ironman/Spiderman - those are franchises it can be assumed their audiences know).
like Jason, you fucked over your football scholarship/college options, your family probably has to pay for the school damages, you have a police (though possibly just juvenile) record... they’re allowed to question your decisions. and your dad still ends up giving you a chance to have a car again. (after you smashed two in less than a month.)
this was a mix of parental awareness and not. like Billy’s mom* is there greeting (and noticing the school social group differences) at the door, but not that the missing (smashed up) van may be his fault. Trini’s parents are aware if ineffectual/ridiculous. we just get a glimpse of Jason’s mom and sister but we spend time on his relationship with his dad (whose paying attention to his kid and tries to rescue him), but he still sneaks out of his house (with ankle bracelet) and is gone past his curfew at least twice, if not every day of training. Zack’s mom is trying to keep track (checking if he’s going to school) but (assumed) doesn’t know he sometimes spends nights away from home (assumed after giving her her pills.) unless I’m totally blanking, we don’t know about Kim’s family, though she goes swimming at the quarry at night and cuts her hair etc without recognition. and they all spend at least one night (though is bonfire night and them meeting at the bleachers the same night?) away from home. and they all spend almost two weeks coming home with bruises/etc.
* ok I thought he said both parents died in the car accident when he first tells Jason but then later he just talks about his dead dad so was that his mom or his guardian? (I’m trying to remember if he shouted ‘her name’s Trini’ with a relationship term at the end.)
they had some really great moments but: Trini and Kim fighting over the last bite. Jason slapping the bully (that was so fucking cutting.) Billy on the spaceship. Zack and his mom hanging out over chess. Trini with her brothers. etc etc.
so the time jumps - the gems keep them alive and put them to bed, but they don’t do things like fix the van.
I’m so glad Trini immediately tells the group about Rita’s deal, and the narrative doesn’t even try to have some possible betrayal shit, and Jason’s speech (we suck, but we should do this anyways) was a good choice
all the death and injuries are close up, within the group. even with big battle the ‘helpless citizen’ was shown through Jason’s dad. the group itself receives extensive (if sometimes recklessly self-inflicted) damage.
boob armor. (Trini’s brothers could have guessed Yellow was a girl considering that.)
the actors did a good job, esp Billy’s
??? I always forget obvious stuff when I do these.
overall, I liked the movie more than I thought I would (ok not saying too much), and it had some great moments, but Billy’s death esp was cheap, there was some incongruent scenes that affected the rest/tone of the film, and the final fighting battles - esp in the dino bots (though let’s be real: I want one) - was a little ridiculous. but the movie did a good introduction, and it felt like it recognized teenagers in all their stupidity and grace, and I’ll definitely give the next one in the franchise a try.

Your Thoughts for OW’s Lore At Blizzcon
**Edit - would help to tag you hurr durr @freckledmccree
I like how you will indulge in detailed speculation and interpretation of OW lore and don’t center all ideas around one specific (noncanon) idea but will admit occasional personal bias. I also really appreciate that you steer relatively clear from fanon and when people respond to your writings you don’t have an attitude or seemingly disregard them. Sooo, that’s why I wrote this disgustingly long thing even tho I’m paranoid about being annoying.
(Apology beforehand if you have answered any of these before, I have not properly stalked your blog yet. Also, excuse my rambling I did my best to be coherent. Lastly, I only have one friend who is kinda into OW and I feel bad to bother them 24/7 so I talk a lot in this.)
McCree Speculation
The following assumes that the new cinematic will be McCree’s.
If there is another known character in the short along with McCree, excluding flashbacks, who do you think it would be?
I have 3-4 ideas even though I would not say they are likely. And with any of these I don't imagine a role any larger than Brig's in Honor and Glory or even Zarya in Infiltration.
A.) Genji. I don't think it's likely but I wouldn't be surprised. It also might be risky on Blizzard's part because many are salty about Genji's abundance of lore compared to others. (Which is dumb and I would gladly rant on it but it's not the point) Reasons:
Notable increase of McCree's interactions w/him.
McCree might've left OW in a less professional fashion than others. Which would mean he may not have anything to be alerted by for the recall. Especially since he went underground for a while. Winston’s contact info? Long since changed.
From how I interpret “Dragons” it seems that Genji has received the call as well as offered Hanzo a choice to go w/him “The world is changing once again, Hanzo. And it's time to pick a side.” So why not others?
Genji has also been canonically in touch w/at least one other ex OW member. So why not try to get in touch with another member that we know he directly worked with?
My logic - Why would their interactions matter?
McCree's asking about how Genji dealt with the loss of his body emotionally/physically as well as Genji's response leaves room for the implication that Genji knows how he lost his arm.
Why would Genji go in person?
Well, I mean you probably don't wanna broadcast that your getting the highly illegal band back together. In which said band also is also hated by the UN and every other terrorist organization on the planet.
How will Genji know how to find him?
Cause he's a ninja, duh. But seriously McCree most likely said something before he quit OW and if not Genji would just have to look at the news and he'd be there.
B.) Sombra. If anything I wouldn't be surprised by a small reference to her rather than actually seeing her.
Reflections comic (duh)
My logic - I expect Sombra to get involved with a little bit of everything. She likes making people question their beliefs on who is “right” or “wrong”.
She would most likely know about the recall so if she wants to manipulate that at all she could be the one to tell McCree about it. Idk, she’s a wildcard with anything.
C.) Fio. The Blackwatch Pilot in Retribution. (I used “known” characters loosely) I'm not sure on my certainty with her, tbh. But I do find it rather intriguing. (I said no flashbacks but maybe with this one)
Fio's only lines that are not directly related towards the mission are all directed towards McCree.
The tone of them is clearly on the teasing/banter side of things.
My logic - Why have this side character show any interest in conversation outside of the task at hand?
If she was just being used for the game mode and as lore filler it would make more sense to have only lines relating to the mission. Or have generalized ones for the team. But she has multiple focusing on the one and only Jesse McCree.
Reasons for that could be that they ran out of time to add other interactions. Which would explain why McCree does not acknowledge her comments. (The only time he was quiet during the mission is when she talked to him, rip you got denied girl) Or it could be that they knew each other previously or trained together in some of the early days of Blackwatch.
D.) Mercy. This one I would be surprised to see but it would have some logic to it.
Losing his arm, depending on the how/when/where.
She is not one of the characters who speak to him about his arm.
My logic - Who fixed his arm up for him?
Depending on how/when/where he lost his arm he may have shyed away from public hospitals. Especially with Talon seemingly controlling so much of the press. So he may of wanted someone he personally trusted as well as doctor patient confidentiality.
Why does Mercy of all people not ask about the prosthetic?
Out of the people who question McCree Mercy isn't one of them. Which may seem odd since she has known him for so long and her being a doctor. However, she does call out his smoking. So this proves she does pay attention to his over all health. (Which I am aware is a much older interaction) But it would have been a good opportunity to have her inquire about the arm there if she doesn't already know.
Do you think McCree will directly receive the recall or from some other source?
What do you think of the fact that McCree lost his left arm specifically?
If the loss of McCree's arm is related to the Deadlock Gang do you speculate that it was intentionally the arm that had his tattoo on it? With how far McCree got in his career/life with OW and potentially spilling info on the gang when caught some people might want him to hurt. Not just die. To me forcefully sawing off the branding of the gang he betrayed would fit the bill. As well as be a good warning for others. (Not that blizzard would show that)
How do you imagine the camaraderie within Deadlock to be?
I ask this since in “Hero” right before the Los Muertos member throws the grenade it shows him actively choosing to help the other gang members (very broken gang members thanks to Soldier 76)onto the back of the truck instead of getting out ASAP.
I just found that to be notable in how their social structure works. It makes more sense for Los Muertos specifically since they originally wanted to stand up against the politics and speak out for the people still suffering from the Omnic Crisis. They are not formed from the shady work they do.
Deadlock, however, doesn't seem to represent a core ideology. So I wouldn't be surprised if when OW caught some of them the others ran. Especially since McCree would probably still be pretty low in the pecking order at the time.
Can you imagine a shoot out in the warehouse tho, that'd be so risky people could be anywhere and there's no good line of sight except for where the truck drives through. Sneaky teen McCree climbing around and ish
Do you expect/hope for the origin on any mementos to be revealed?
My only idea is his iconic BAMF belt buckle. We know he's had it for quite a while since he wears it here:
Just thought Blizzard could do something cute with it if they wanted.
Do you have any thoughts on the Deadlock Torb skin?
Idk, this is kinda silly but people have talked about it. People do have a good point that it’s odd for him to have that skin.
Lastly, do you have any little head canons that you hope to see confirmed?
Nothing serious just simple personal hopes from the cinematic which may or may not set you up for disappointment cause fun
(When I first started writing this I had two questions, rip. I'm pretty sure I forgot one of the original questions too)
Other Blizzcon Lore Speculation
Do you have any ideas for the new hero?
Personally, I do not have any super strong theories but I do have a few loose ideas. Tbh, I can’t especially convince myself of any these besides the likelihood of said character being a tank.
A.) Talon Tank
Reasons:
Moira’s origin story contains two possible indicators towards this, or another Talon member in general.
We need another main tank added to the roster (opinion)
Talon has a character for every role except tanking (weak)
Popular request (weak)
My Logic lacking- Majority of this idea comes from Moira’s origin story which shows this relatively well known photo with a person or armored suit of some kind on the back panel here:
I used to think of this to be much harder evidence than I do now since it looks like it could be a uncolored design used for the Talon members in Retribution. However, there’s another detail in the photo (including the version with the different back panel that I believe could point to another member. Each character, excluding Moira, has their line of sight going to the same spot. My doodles for emphasis:
(Reaper is kind of hard to tell but that’s basically his entire role in Talon at this point, lol) Who are they all looking at? This could just be an artistic choice for viewer immersion but it also could be rather purposeful. To me, it looks like a proposition to someone, with the panel in the back for emphasis. If not a proposition, perhaps the workings of a plan or setting clear expectations for said person. (either version works for this context) This someone must be rather important to have them all there. Moira is looking back at the rest of them, seemingly reading their expressions/body language. She seems pleased but then again she’s a tad bit odd.
B.) Mystery Characters
Idek, I added this cause I could. This is not likely at all but will remain on the list of possibilities as long as Overwatch shall live.
Have been shown or spoken of very early on but nothing since
Recently mentioned names but no physical hints of who/what they are
Tying up some long held questions (weak)
Popular demand (weak)
My logic (or lack there of) - I have exactly one tiny speck of logic for this. Mystery characters shown and/or spoken of before the cancellation of the First Strike comic are still occasionally brought up to the OW team. Yet they have conveniently not retconned them. Why not say they are no longer a significant part of the story when there has been no updates on them for 2ish years? Maybe they are just keeping the possibility open. Liao and the two from Ana’s origin story are the best (only?) examples:
There is also more recently mentioned characters such as Ray and Fio. Ray was discussed mostly early this year and all we know about them is the following:
We do not know anything else about who or what Ray is. I do not 100% believe Ray is an actual person but you never know. The comment on the beard and his response to has Ray’s combat experience could be some teasing on Michael Chu’s part. To me, Ray is either a person, an omnic, or some sort of computer system used in the Orca. I should note that another AI other than Athena would seem odd especially with the whole reason OW formed and all.
(Fio I have already discussed but at least we know she’s an actual person, hopefully...OW is weird man)
What do you think of the common theory of Sanjay Korpal being the next hero?
Personally, I think he lacks the look of an OW character. He looks rather plain to me, almost like a background character used to fill up comic space. I do believe his role is going to grow substantially in the lore but as an in game hero? Eh, I don’t know. Another thing I struggle with imagining is him being a tank like a lot of people presume. It would be interesting with what Vishkar can do with hard light technology to have a tank based on that, I will admit. Just don’t see him filling the role of that, he doesn’t strike me as someone who wants to get his hands dirty. I will admit, that this is very strictly my opinion and read of his character and by no means is anything to go off of speculation wise.
But, if I’m wrong, then next years first cinematic should definitely be a Symmetra/Lucio one and it should definitely have Symmetra kiCKING HIS ASS FOR MANIPUlATING HER foR GOD KNOWs hOW LONG..ahem.
Do you think a comic will be released soon?
They usually put out comics on Wednesdays but they have been odd this year when it comes to them. Idk, if they’ll announce one at Blizzcon. I kinda doubt it. Personally, I’m hoping for a really kick ass Christmas comic since in Reflections it ended with Winston saying he has a good feeling for “next year” (OW’s next year cause timeline) plus last year’s was cute but underwhelming.
I think that’s all I have to ask/discuss for now? I had ideas keep popping up but I kept going back over what I already wrote and my attention span is all or nothing soooo there goes my ideas into the void.
***Random ass question cause you like RDR2. I keep getting a gamestop ad for it and it’s bugging me cause I can’t make out what this guy is saying. It sounds like “I don’t want to kill all you smooth dutch. Just you.” Idk where the exact video is rip, but I feel like I’m really mishearing the guy, lmao.
Non Sequiturs and Stupid Fangirl Squealing
(possibly completely incoherent warning idk how to wenglish when im excited pls ignore mw)
I saw a comic aart thing once and it had young jesse punch Jack in the face and Reyes thought it was the funniest thing and I feel like that’s in character
What if Reyes had a few choices on who to recruit and he was like I want the cowboy chose the instead of the trained older guys. Ana would be like Reyes no and Reyes would be like I want the damn cowboy
I never realised how much I appreciate McCree’s character until the hints of him having a short started popping up. Before I liked him sure, I just never thought too deep into how they could expand on his character. Originally I was just like, “so Reyes picked this kid out of a big ass gang and had him trained among the world’s most renowned soldiers and he still is perfectly content being a cowboy?” Good for you my dudely man, good for you,
wanna see skinny (lean) young McCree but everyone will want the skin but it wont look the same with his in game model so blegh
I agree with you on how you think reyes recruited him, so many people think he just yeeted jesse at a bunch of angry omnics and was like lol have a cowboy
Imagine McCree being so confused by the weird ass original OW team like y there captain america, my new found father, a dwarf (swede) and an 8 ft german happy meal
He’d be so intimidated by Ana I bench lift Reinhardt for fun Amari being his coach like asdfsdf
But I think with her training it’d be the first real time he let his guard down without him realizing it because he was so in awe of her sniping skills and being able to get taught by her, bonding over shooting people half a continent away yAY
What if we see lil pharah??? I’ll die???
Okay I’ve said this to another blog but even tho McCree is not my “type” I’m still gonna need to strap my ovaries in place for this short, cause booooooooyyyyyyyyy (I dont even have a type but I guess I mean a lil scruffy?)
