idk if it's different in patho 2 (ive never played it) but in pathologic classic using the "mystical inclinations [...] left and right hand" dialogue as gay evidence that hinges on 'omf it's the first thing he says when they meet what a homo' but one of the major reasons this quote is so fucking good is because this isn't even close to the first time daniil and artemy meet. if ur playing the game in the recommend order, daniil has already completed his route. they know each other really well. they know their ideologies are completely incompatible. they also have an inkling that they are the same, things are repeating, things are different, "nature is playing jokes". obviously im not saying that daniil remembers the previous route exactly, but the player doesssss. and that's the context that makes his minor(?) breakdown about not being real a little more impactful, because he's already got the feeling things are starting again. another brilliant thing ab the way this was written is it doesn't rely on the player unlocking any of the secret endings in their first playthrough (pretty tough ride going in blind), so the line is either:

'wow this self awareness is fucking cool. I wonder if daniil kinda remembers the previous route, knows everything is starting again'

or

'oh my fucking god he kinda remembers that he isn't real'

anyways rant is almost over, but I also promise I'm not saying that daniil and artemy aren't gay or whatever, that's subtext for you to pick up on yourself. I'm just saying that the "left and right hand" thing means lots of other things (I just barely covered the sort of Brechtian angle you could take, there are so many angles because its a phenomenal game).

I absolutely think the line has romantic implications. I also think it implies other things. I do not think people who analyse the romance are just unaware of the other things. I do not think the 'we have been here before' implications are the most important implications. Nor are they my favourite implications. I am just saying the fact it is the first thing Daniil says to Artemy has nothing to do with the romantic implications, but everything to do with the 'we have been here before' implications. I do not think that romance and 'we have been here before' implications are the only implications.

do you have any thoughts on what Nina Eddy and Jin's lives at the mishima zaibatsu might have been like?

First off: Chaotic Zaibatsu trio ftw. Two rich emo's & one rich goth working together to practically take over the world. It doesn't get any better than that.

Based on what we saw of them in T6, and the likes/dislikes system of TT2, it looks like Nina was sort of the mediator between the three of them. I think she was closer with Jin than Eddy, but good friends with Eddy as well. She was close enough with him to care enough to run in and help him if he got hurt too much in TT2 at least (While not technically canon, given Nina's apathy, that still says a LOT.)

Before she got close to Jin and got to understand him more, her and Eddy absolutely bonded over "why tf is Jin like that?" when boss man wasn't looking. Tbh they probably have so many inside jokes.

Many late work nights chilling with take out in Jin's office.

In game they all only speak their native languages and somehow understand each other, I know, yet somehow the wholesome idea of late night language lessons between the three is still an image that has lived rent free in my head for months now 🙃. Nina again usually acting as the mediator / translator because with how much she travels with her job she likely speaks the most languages out of the three.

I've made this joke before, but seriously how quickly did 6'2" Eddy and 5'11" Jin learn not to help 5'3" Nina reach things?

Another idea that has lived rent free in my mind is the three of them wearing the Zaibatsu T-shirt from the Lidia reveal livestream, and being absolutely disgusted. They did it for a day for company moral but you know Nina asked Jin if she could burn hers as soon as the day was over. And did it anyway if he said no.

Given how much Jin seemed to trust Nina as his right hand and confidant, I would not be surprised if Jin confided in Nina first when he found out Eddy's Grandmaster wasn't going to make it. And because of that, if Eddy found out Nina knew, I sadly don't know if they're still in touch after T6 🥺.. But I choose to hope that they'll at least reconnect and chat on friendly terms again someday. (Nina please save him from Lucky Chloe omf)

And finally, not technically about the Z trio but I'd just like to state that the only thing that comes to mind when thinking about their opposing G-Corp trio is the "fuck off Janet" vine. Thanks. 🙂
