There's a little something that really frustrates me in the Evil Dead fandom.

And that is that people talk like Ash is an unreasonable asshole in Army of Darkness for no good reason.

That is bullshit.

I want you all to go back and re-watch the movie. There are only three people (Henry, Blacksmith, and Wiseman) in 1300 that actually deserve Ash's friendship or a sunnier attitude. Every single other person doesn't deserve crap from a traumatized, abused, frightened, exhausted man out of time.

The only time that Ash is ever allowed to rest after his shitty weekend at the cabin is after he's backed into a corner and is forced to be scarier than the people that are hurting him.

Some things to look for in main characters:

Arthur: never once treats Ash nicely. He never apologizes for being an ass or even enslaving Ash. He never apologizes for thinking Ash is one of Henry's men when he's clearly not. At no point does Arthur become kind to Ash. The only reason Ash is treated like a prince is because Arthur back Ash into a corner and Ash lashed out so now Arthur's scared of him. He constantly insults Ash through the entire movie. Arthur being the leader of the castle is no excuse. He could have apologized in private or at the very least been kinder to Ash once they started working together.

Sheila: She's a piece of crap monster. she's an entitled high society lady with a stick up her ass. She beats, spits on, and nearly murder Ash. Thinking he's one of Henry's men is no excuse. Arthur didn't even say that Ash killed her brother yet she still singles him out when Henry is right fucking there. Later, she gives 2 really half-assed apologies, slaps Ash for no good reason when he rejects her (which he is totally justified to do), and then basically pressures him into sex when he really doesn't want anything to do with her. Also, she tries to use them sleeping together to keep him from leaving when he's been saying from the second he got there that he wants to go home and that NOTHING will change his mind. She has no right to be mad at him. She made her decision. He didn't want to sleep with her stupid ass!

When Ash crawls out of the pit and picks on that balding guy after hitting Arthur, that guy totally fucking deserved it. He was the fucker that had been fucking WHIPPING Ash during the whole walk at the beginning of the movie!

All but three humans in 1300 treated Ash like shit when he was just scared, tired, and lost. Even Evil Ash treats Ash kinder than most of the humans that Ash is pressured into saving.

Ash wasn't a jerk to these people because he was afraid of making new friends. He was a jerk to these people because he was scared for his life because he's been treated better by deadites than by these fucking humans.
