Rick managed to keep his face straight during the first part of the explanation. He coaxed his mind to focus on the facts, attempting to get as much information as possible from what he could read between the lines.

C-137 and a Morty. That implied that his partner wasn't talking about the boy C-137 had claimed as his own. But why would another Morty get involved in a one-sided feud? Not to mention that, from the sound of it, this Morty had actively and effectively contributed to the battle.

His mind came to a screeching halt at that. Could it have been...?

Rick hurried to turn away, his facade breaking once again as his expression filled with an emotion that hadn't touched it in decades. Uneasiness. And, underneath it, a storm of conflicted feelings.

"Y-You should have let me come with you," was what he eventually said, once he had managed to rebuild his blank mask. "C-Can you walk? I can fix you more easily in the lab."

The moment that Rick's partner came into the room, he tried his hardest to direct his attention over towards him. It was hard given all the injuries to his face. His eyes felt as if they would pop right out of him. And everything felt hot, searing hot.

Though he still managed to smile. Seeing that look in those pale eyes. It was something he didn't expect to see, but he knew it meant that he was just as upset as he was.

"I was outnumbered," He began to explain. "C-137 and a Morty ended up beating me."

It was a shameful thing for him to admit. That he could be beaten. However, this was his partner and he wouldn't not be truth to him. Even if it meant he sounded pathetic.

"I think I almost died, my darling."
