I wasn't thinking when I posted this, I just wanted to poke fun at Apollo and the culture around him, because his flamboyance and sass are the things most commonly projected today. You are correct, Helios and Selene are the gods of the sun and moon, riding their chariots across the sky.

I've never read Percy Jackson, but our culture surrounding both Apollo and Artemis still identifies them largely as a "younger, hipper" version of the sun and moon gods so that's what sticks in my head when I see it. I'm working on changing that by learning more about the Greek pantheon and how people used to worship them. I just learned about Eos, Helios and Selene's sister, yesterday actually, which is really cool. The goddess of the dawn is amazing, and I'm glad to be learning about this ancient, rich culture.

as much as I love portrayals of the sun and moon as a (lesbian) couple, the greeks were really on to something when they said "actually they're siblings who disapprove of each other's life choices"
