He heard the words I AM AFRAID, and thought, ah, how alike his brother. It was why Doflamingo truly had to protect him. That was exactly what he was going to do. Keep him from harm. Keep the world from ever hurting him again.

There was always the question lurking within him ; what did his brother think of him? How did he SEE him? Doflamingo had been a MONSTER even before they were reunited again. Even as a child, Doflamingo had been who he was today. Entering into adulthood had allowed him to become the divine being he was today. But he would not say he had changed. He had only ascended. Did his brother resent him? Fear him? Did he love him? These were thoughts that visited Doflamingo quite often.

What he most worried for was having Rocinante think of himself as expendable. To have his own brother think he would EVER cast him aside. He had not given Rocinante the Heart Seat because he thought he would aspire to that sort of usefulness. Rocinante didn't NEED to be useful. All he needed to do was be there. Be by his side. That was a gift greater than ANY of what his other officers could ever grant him.

To hear him CONFESS his fear of not being useful to him --- Was that not proof of TRUST? Doflamingo wanted to believe that. Wished it so badly that perhaps it even became true in his own mind. And so, he would answer -
