@samticore well, of the two of them we all know that my mother is the more butch one 😔 we'd need to check Janet's procedures to get a more accurate average. But for real tho. On a regular basis she'd, say, take care of her ingrown toenails by doing an epsom salt soak and then splinting the softened nail so she could lift it out of the skin and trim it. Imagine my fucking confusion when I find out you're supposed to just get a regular surgery for that.

@archer3-13 pulling a splinter out is a perfectly normal bit of home first aid, but the scale I'm thinking of is a little different. I'm talking like, situations where the splinter was in there enough that she'd need to soak the tweezers in alcohol because she was digging around in a pool of blood and pus or using a little blade to slice under the splinter. She'd have me hold the flashlight on it so she could see.

Were--was everyone else not doing this??
