i wonder if there was a narrative reason there was never a btr father's day episode? it would have to allude to kendall's father in some way, so i'm sure that's why they didn't but, i just think the choice to pick one parental holiday over the other is kinda strange!
the only dad we really truly see is carlos' (i don't think its fair to count the few seconds we see james' dad in all honestly but at least they mention him a few times) and i think his episode was super cute, but a fathers day ep featuring him would be so sweet too. like fathers day gifts go missing around the palm woods and they boys play junior detective again or something? idk, but, just something i've been thinking about recently.
i would have been a good opportunity (as would mothers day tbh if not all the moms were able to show) to highlight single parents on those holidays as well. like, kendall showering his mom with extra love instead of even thinking about his dad at all or something, or sending something to the other dads as well.
it even could have show strained parental relationships (and maybe i'm jumping the gun to assume) with james and his dad. the complexity of being a kid/teen and still having to live with or interact with a parent you're not too fond of for whatever reason. showing that days focused on celebrating them might be hard, but with the help of other family and friends you can get through it! or a lesson that sometimes your parent doesn't deserve your attention at all.
or an explanation maybe? for lack of mention of logan's dad as well? a lesson that even busy parents still care about you even if they're not around as much as you'd like? or a lesson about the hardship of meeting parental expectations if his dad was like a doctor or something?
so as i type that, now im realizing it was probably too heavy-hitting to order but. the mothers day one, as goofy as it was, still had a more serious topic than most other eps in that brooke has controlling tendencies that really, well and truly affect the lives of those around her. james' freeze response to her words is heartbreaking to me, and something that's pretty glossed over. still. something to consider...
