Her memories had come back while staring at the statue of the lost Zora princess. She could still remember how her heart had started to burn, to ache, hand clenching at Kira's so intensely that she must have been in pain.
'I hope you know... I will always protect you.'
Sometimes in the heat of battle, when her heart stuttered and nearly stopped, Robin had witnessed Mipha. A glimpse of the woman she grew up loving, healing waters spinning and revitalizing the Hero's body and spirit.
Could Kira see that specter? Did she know that such love had to persist beyond a century?
Could that love be pushed aside for another that remained even now within the swordswoman's heart?
Leaning in, Robin lost her courage, and instead, rested her forehead against Kira's, taking a long, shuddering breath. "Are you sure?"
The young woman’s heart fluttered as she felt fingers weave through her long dirty blond curls, and it was all Kira could do not to lean into the touch. The mere thought caused her cheeks to grow warm. What was she thinking..?? She couldn't allow such things to enter her mind.!! Kira was simply there to help Robin accomplish what she was already capable of doing. Some support could go a long way.
However... Robin didn't need her. And Kira certainly shouldn't allow her own personal feelings to get involved. She was there with Robin as they went from nation to nation, and what they learned in Zora's Domain particularly stood out to Kira. The fallen Zora princess was in love with Robin... That must be something the heroine thought of constantly. If Kira felt such fluttering emotions...that would only bring more hurt to Robin, wouldn't it?
Regardless, Kira continued to embrace Robin with a soft smile upon her lips. She didn't understand how her heart rate sped up when she embraced the other blonde, but it was a nice feeling nonetheless. A soft chuckle escaped ruby lips--it was funny. And what was even funnier, Kira thought to herself, was that she didn't want to move either. "Then...don't let go," she replied as she tilted her gaze up at the heroine.

Robin couldn't help the smile that came to her face... A real one. Even if she had felt like she couldn't do anything right at one point, that her destiny was so important that she would surely fail it... Kira's comforting words had soothed her concerns.
The wolf gently reached out, taking Kira's hand in her own. Her hand was tough and calloused, coated in scars. Her gloved kept her protected somewhat from blisters while using her weapons, but honestly, at this point, there was no need.
Even with her thoughts about her unfeminine hands, they were brushed away simply by holding Kira's gentle hands, the warmth seeping through easily.
"What would I do without you, Kira?" The heroine asked, head tilted. Despite her worries, despite her anxiety, she pulled Kira in, hugging her in a warm embrace.
"I feel like I don't say it enough."
Kira offered her a small smile. She was still concerned, but she understood Robin’s situation. Well… She understood it as much as a second party could. Kira had no idea how Robin must feel about all of this… But since she couldn’t take away any pain the hero may feel, she could at least offer her some company. Robin has been through more than anyone should in their life… The most Kira could do was carry her own weight and continuously check on Robin.
“We have been together for a while now… And don’t worry, I understand. It must be hard, unlocking these old memories while you’re making new ones. They’re bound to confuse you. I have a good memory, so if there’s anything you can’t recall, let me know and I’ll tell you what I can remember.” That is, if Kira even knew the answer. There was nothing she could do to help answer any questions Robin may have about a century ago. Kira hated feeling so useless… Especially when someone clearly needed help, but she couldn’t give it to them.
Kira placed her hand on Robin’s shoulder. “I think a journal is a great idea. I’m sure there are some in the nearest town, or possibly even the nearest stable. I’ll be sure to carry multiple writing utensils in my bag so we won’t run out.” She allowed her smile to grow a bit more, although it still remained quite gentle. “You’re making history, Robin. Writing down your experiences could create history books. I think this is very important.”

Kira's concerned look and almost pained question struck Robin in the chest, right where it counted. It wasn't like she wanted to forget... It was just too easy for old memories to bleed into the really old ones, to make it seem like she had known Kira before the Calamity, or that she hadn't known her at all. What year was it? Where were they then?
Slowly, gratefully, the memories do return, fuzzy and pushing at light and darkness within her brain. Thank the gods Kira was so willing to reminisce.
"Finding Impa was the first thing I did after leaving the Plateau." Robin quietly said, straightening up so she wasn't crouched before the Guardian wreck anymore.
"My memories blend together sometimes. I'm not even sure how long I have been out here since waking up." Trying to reverse those dark brooding thoughts, the swordsman smiled, chuckling, even if it didn't quite reach her eyes.
"Maybe we should find a journal and write in it, so the days don't seem so... So the same."
"You...can't remember?" That made Kira concerned. She knew Robin had memory problems since there was a whole life she was slowly trying to piece together from before she was put in the Shrine of Resurrection. It worried Kira that she couldn't remember some things from after either... But, then again, with her memories of her past resurfacing that wasn't too surprising. Kira just wished she could help somehow.
"It was Lady Impa, really. I've been studying in Kakariko Village for a couple of years now, learning about ancient technology from the Sheikah tribe." And of course traveling to Hateno Village to learn from Purah as well, but most of Kira's time was spent in Kakariko Village. "When you came to Impa, she said that you needed someone who was familiar with this technology. And...she told me to go with you."
Which surprised Kira. She was just some Hylian, not even part of the Sheikah people. Surely someone else in the village knew this technology better than her... She didn't think her knowledge was worth helping the hero of legend in saving Hyrule, but she couldn't possibly say no. And now...look at how far they've gotten together.

Even if she wanted to, Robin didn't think she was capable of doing this alone. Having her friends, her cherished allies by her side... Even they were not enough to face down the Calamity Ganon. They had been ready, with plenty of Guardians to protect them, armies at the beck and call of their king.
But they had died. Robin figured she must have died at some point, and maybe, this was how she had returned... Broken. Wrong. Her entire personality had shifted, even if it felt more safe to just go stoic again, shelled within a thick carapace.
Kira was one of the few that kept that shell broken, to let such a fractured girl see the sunlight again.
"Know what's funny?" Robin asked softly, breathing a laugh, as her hand lifted to move through Kira's long hair. "I don't think I could let go of you right now. I don't want to."
Just... For a little while more. Standing here in Kira's embrace felt like she was cast in the warmth of the glowing sun, basking in a perfect spring day.
Kira’s turquoise gaze lowered as Robin grasped her hand. The heroine’s skin was so rough… But that was to be expected from a fighter like Robin. Weapons wore at the skin the more you used them, and Robin was constantly fighting. But Kira’s hands were soft…small as well. Gentle. She wasn’t like Robin, but she was trying to be. She could fight, but her main skills lied elsewhere. They were different…but those differences helped them complement each other.
Suddenly, Kira felt rather flustered—mostly due to Robin’s words. She spoke like Kira did so much for her…but did she really? She was sure Robin could save Hyrule on her own. Everyone said it was her destiny, after all. Kira was just helping here and there. She wasn’t nearly as special as Robin…but the heroine’s words still sparked a feeling of warmth inside Kira. Her cheeks tinted pink as the other woman embraced her.
She smiled before returning the hug. “I’m just happy to help wherever I can,” Kira replied as she buried her face in Robin’s shoulder. She believed Robin could accomplish her goal all on her own…but maybe she needed the companionship. A journey on one’s own could create a suffocating loneliness. Maybe Kira’s job wasn’t to act as a guide to Sheikah technology. Maybe it was to simply be a companion for Robin. If that was the case, Kira couldn’t be happier to travel beside the heroine. “I’m always here for you, you know…”

Robin usually didn't stop for long to study the Guardians. Her approach to them was always incredibly cautious, not wanting to activate one and have to deal with parrying the laser back.
If she wasn't avoiding them, she could usually find some ancient parts around the ruined robot, take them to the Akkala Lab to get more Ancient Arrows or whatever.
Never had she considered studying these things... Trying to understand them the same way that Zelda (and now Kira) had tried to.
"The days blur together sometimes," The swordsman began with a sigh. "Remind me how we met, again? I know it had to do with the ancient tech..."
That was a consequence of the chamber Robin had slept in for 100 years. Her memory was still recovering, and sometimes it just didn't want to work properly after fierce battles and injuries.
@wolfvirago inquired: "What made you want to study this sort of thing, anyways?" for kira, botw verse
Unprompted—Always Accepting!!
Glancing up from the broken-down guardian she was studying, Kira looked at the blond heroine when she spoke. What was Robin referring to, exactly? These guardians? Or, most likely, ancient knowledge itself? Kira spent most of her life learning about these relics of the past. She wanted to understand what happened a hundred years ago...as well as try to fix the state Hyrule was in now.
"Well... To start with, aren't they interesting? I don't have many connections, so I don't know anyone who was alive when Hyrule Castle fell. This is the only way I can piece together what happened. Plus, learning about ancient Sheikah technology may be the key to defeating Calamity Ganon once and for all, and I want to do whatever it takes to help. And, of course... Learning about this technology let me meet you."
