For Niwa, loss is a complicated concept for him to rather wrap his head around ; Tatarasuna, for his memory's sake, is still heavily stuck in the most recent precipice of his mind. Anyone else who lived through it has either died or had centuries to come to terms with the grief ; those who didn't live through it only heard the soft tale of its endings and the fabrications that went along with it, but their feelings on it are minor ; Niwa, as the unusual case of one who just awoke as though he had a nap, it feels like HOURS ago that he experienced his death and seconds ago that he heard the actual story of his village's tragic fate.
In the present era of teyvat, the song that befits his anguish is FANTASY ON A JAPANESE FOLK SONG. A lot of his tale is this struggle to properly react to the situation. When he is first awoken, there is confusion and a sense of wonder -- he is not dead but he knows he did die. He realizes how far in the future he has come, the tragic reality of his traversing through time, but there is still that lingering trace of his past that cannot be forgotten (the bass drum that is slowly mixed with the taiko drum ; a representation of his heart pulled in two between his two worlds).
As he comes to terms with this news, he still feels this pull back to his past, yet the pain steadily grows until it crescendos into both his colliding into his obligation to help those he cares for that still remains ; however, it comes to a painful halt, a stagger when he's met with the information what happened after his death: the death of Katsuragi, the pain of Mikoshi, the Kabukimono and his heart, and the fall of the Niwa Clan. Both his duties as leader and his presence in the future come to a head, forcing him to realize the futility of the hopes he held in his hands that anything he wished to happen did for his people -- for everyone he ever cared for...
It's overwhelming, it's soul crushing, and he's left completely torn apart...
Yet there is this comforting melody still exists ... through his tears does he realize it's the existence of Wanderer still here, the last remaining piece of his past that he still can help -- that he is able to find hope within that presence... (teardrops, the familiar melody, the comfort)
