// me infodumping about my wet cat of a man
ivan was born illegally in a pet human factory and later sold at an auction, that i'm assuming was equally as illegal or was otherwise shady
bought by an alien mafia member called unsha
doesn't know his birthday. doesn't celebrate it either. but he was adopted on valentine's day as a gift for unsha's wife
he's actually quite grateful for them to take him in. they weren't exactly close and were more like business partners ( especially after they got ivan into modelling ), but unsha provided for him. ivan lived like a prince more or less. it was better than living in the slums
a lot of the sponsorships ivan got were affected by unsha's influence
the reason why he was put into anakt garden was because unsha was curious about the pet human business and alien stage was the thing at the time to get any sort of profit from their pets. we have to realize that for the aliens, this is what a dog pageant might be to us. when the humans win, they don't get anything; any winnings go to their owners and what they do with it is up to them. i doubt ivan would've gained much from winning
unsha wasn't exactly bothered by ivan's death. he was surprised by his acting out in round 6, but honestly considered that a learning lesson. he has no plans to participate in the business again in the near future
relevant to the above point, i think ivan and unsha shared this one thing. since unsha was a neglectful owner, ivan sort of had to figure everything out on his own and to this day, he struggles with emotional expressions. it's why he's always so disinterested and monotonous. he watches, he wants to learn. i'd almost argue he doesn't consider himself human, because he's not like the others. it's why he's fascinated by the loud and emotional types. in a similar manner, unsha wished to learn more about what it means to be human— ivan kissing till during r6 was the most human thing he's done
