            CHERRY  RED  STILL  COATED  HER  LIPS    &    TONGUE    the  only  residual  evidence  left  that  she’d  just  finished  an  icy  treat  .    &    still  yet  the  summer’s  heat  clung  to  skin  ,    the  coolness  running  down  her  throat  only  a  fleeting      RELIEF    before  it  was  over  .    sun  had  said  its  sweet  goodbyes  hours  ago  yet  its  presence  still  could  be  felt  by  everyone  crowded  around  in  the  center  of  old  downtown  .    krissy  could  feel  the  sweat  dripping  down  the  back  of  her  neck  beneath  the  nape  of  her  hair  ,    but  she  didn’t  mind  .    it  was  uncomfortable  but  nothing  unbearable  ,    in  an  odd  way  she  welcomed  it  .                orbs  sparkled  with  the  next  array  of  fireworks  set  off  into  the  sky  ,    somewhere  giddy  children  shriek    &    a  couple  to  her  right  lean  in  closer  together  .    then  she  silently  glances  to  her  left  ,    taking  in  her  companion  of  the  evening  with  a  whisper  of  a  smile  .    taking  in  the  way  the  colors  dance  across  their  cheeks  .                 ❛    —    aren't you glad you came out with me ?     ❜
