(  AGED 7  )   it’s summertime ,  krissy was visiting her aunt again while her dad did whatever he does .  school was out for summer vacation  &  she’s playing with the little girl who lives next door .  it’s become a tradition of sorts ,  &  every time they reunite it’s like rekindling a flame .  a pure ,  genuine bond of two souls coming together to become whole again .  krissy thinks if she had a sister she would want it to be sav .  they’re running around ,  doing as kids do ,  not paying much attention to their surroundings like they should  &  by the time krissy hears sav shout it’s too late !!  sav’s shoes caught against one of their forgotten toys  &  she takes a harsh tumble .  short legs without a second thought spin little body towards the tiny voice ,  funny how krissy even at such a tender age always wore the heroic title .  red faced from frantic play krissy trots over to her friend , sees she’s holding her knee  &  worry blooms in huge doll-like irises .  it takes a few seconds of krissy gently cooing before sav is brave enough to move chubby fingers ,  afraid of what damage might be underneath .  krissy sighs in relief seeing there wasn’t much of a mark ,  only irritated skin  &  a few scratches .  urged on by memories of her mother ,  what she’d do when krissy would get hurt ,  little chambers girl bends forward to press a loud MWAH !!  against sav’s knee .  grins goofily  &  bright at her friend with a gap between her two front teeth .  ❛  that make it feel better ,  sav ?  ❜ 

(  AGED 18  )   dread looms over krissy like a cloud ,  a dark grey entity close enough to make its presence known but invisible to the untrained eye .  skin crawls at the feeling of being watched ,  but she pushes it to the back of her mind to focus her attention solely on sav .  leading the giggly girl to her front door ,  the two had just come from a party  &  krissy took on the role of designated driver of the evening .  sav urges her to come inside ,  spend the night even !!  but with krissy’s heart slowly cracking ,  shredding at the seams with the knowledge of what she’s about to do .  shakes her head with a tight lipped smile ,  eyes suddenly glassy as she pulls sav into a bone crushing hug .  it seems to sober up the other because a tender hand comes up to cup the back of brunette head  &  features on the chamber’s girl flinch at the call of her name .  knowing if she didn’t pull away now ,  then she would just stay in sav’s embrace for the rest of the night . so with a deep inhale she forces herself out of tangled arms .  soft palms delicately catching sav’s face before she presses lips to her forehead .  lingers there for a beat ,  &  then retreats with a broken expression she tries covering up with another smile .  ❛  love you , okay ?  remember to take some meds  &  drink some water before you pass out , babe . see you tomorrow !!  ❜  unbeknownst to her friend , she wouldn’t see krissy the next day .  &  she wouldn’t see her again for a long time . . .  instead the next morning krissy’s face illuminates television screens county-wide . MISSING .

(  AGED 26  )  it’s odd how the human brain works ,  even after years of not seeing someone’s face it can still recognize it in a crowd full of people .  it hits them both at the same time it seams ,  cogs turning before a light bulb crackles to life .  then they’re moving towards each other .  a gravitational pull ,  questions that needed answers to ,  girls no longer girls but women !  hair styles might be a little different  &  they’re sense of fashion not exactly what they remember but they know .  their hearts know .  krissy isn’t sure who moves first ,  who grabs at the other ,  who pulls who in ;  but it ends just as it was left off . . . arms wound around each other ,  fingers digging into each other’s clothes ,  taking in each other .  krissy knows hard questions will be asked later but she doesn’t stay stuck on that thought for too long .  just pulls sav tighter ,  and twists her neck to kiss the other’s temple .
