It feeds my soul, I had given up on writing more or less before I posted my fics on A03 and I'm actually working on my book again. I love getting kudos and comments it means the world to me!

Nothing beats the feeling when you start getting comments on every fic in a fandom or ship from one person, and it’s clear that they’re going on a fic-binge.

Once again, I am plagued by combiner thoughts. And I know I'm going to get to it in that one fic, but I just want to ramble about Texaid for a minute and why it compels me

I just think there's something so interesting going on with the parallels between G1 Vortex and First Aid. They're both combiners. They're both the left hand in their combiner form. The mirror is there folks.

But Vortex is solidly connected to his gestalt. The Combaticons are always together. They're not having some other rando come in. They know exactly who they need to be in that unit. Even though they don't understand the world around them, they know who they are to each other.

Meanwhile, the Protectobots are scramble city style. Like, their configuration will change randomly (G1 Transformers, my beloved chaos continuity destroyer) and in later versions they'll even get random mechs joining and cycling through. The gestalt feels like coworkers at a job???

I just think it's so interesting, that the Combaticons have 1 thing that they are solid on and that is their reliance on each other. They get thrown through the ringer in many continuities (remember that time... megatron put a bomb in Swindle's HEAD in the G1 cartoons?? yeah??? no??? just me???). And I think that is such a HUGE draw to why folks love them as a combiner gestalt, while not many people are talking about the Protectobots.

But how juicy is it - that the autobot is the one who is left out on his own, just a cog to be placed in a situational weapon. While the Combaticons fight for revenge so OFTEN because they're looking out for the mechs that matter so much to them. And that's the real heart of Bruticus.

Prowls mannerisms taking on a springy affect, more fluid in motion and maybe jazz has started standing up straighter and such

So.. I've been thinking. What if there were side effects to the drift technology?

Okay now hear me out:

In the fic I wrote (you can find it here), one of the lines is "Ambulon couldn’t see where his friend ended and Vortex began"— and that just got me thinking

What if there was a phenomenon that happens with people who drift with other humans, and not just with the mech?

I will mostly talk about First Aid/Vortex here, but this would ABSOLUTELY apply to Shockwave+Orion as well. There's no way there isn't some sort of effect that happens between pilots who drift together that results in them being connected in more ways than one.

Like.. think about it:

Vortex being able to give some half-decent medical advice due to Felix's knowledge bleeding over. The two having in-depth discussions about how to best dissect a Quintesson. Aid's sense of humor adopts some of Vortex's mannerisms, maybe his mannerisms in general.

Aid might feel the urge to smoke because Vortex used to smoke, or maybe one time when Aid is talking to Onslaught, he laughs and his smile is so much like Vortex's it makes the tactician have a double-take.

Aid knowing when Vortex has a broken part and where it is, and being able to sense that something is wrong with the other as if it were his own body. (<- credit to niechys for this part as it had completely slipped my mind)

And Vortex being the same!! Especially when Pharma tries to take Felix away from him, Vortex feels the discomfort through their bond, and it just makes him angrier.

The best part? It's that since 2-person drifts are practically non-existant at this point. Nobody would really know about this happening unless they experienced it too (or had seen it happen :))

I think that there's so many possibilities for this. They're both their own person, but having bits of their other half bleed into them?

So many possibilities. And ALL of them are fun.
