Remus: You're so beautiful...
Sirius (nervous): HA! You'd never have guessed I'm a product of incest!
Remus: ... what.

Listen, Lily didn’t usually do this.
But it was their seventh year and Mary had begged her. It was a rite of passage after all.
And well, Lily folded really quickly after Mary stared kissing her.
So here they were, in the middle of the night, grinning widely at each other as their hands couldn’t keep to themselves - trying to find an empty room to finish what they started.
When they finally did, Mary was kissing her, pushing her back into the wall when suddenly instead of a wall, she bumped into a warm body.
And suddenly she became very aware of the heavy breathing that wasn’t from either her or Mary.
There was a muffled “occupied” but Lily didn’t move. She knew that voice.
“James?!”
There was silence before one of them replied. “Lily?”
Lily whirled around, barely making him out in the dark.
“What the fuck are you doing here?”
Another voice joins in, a distinctly male one, filled with dry amusement. “Pretty sure it’s the exact same thing you were planning to do.”
Lily gapes as Mary laughs.
“Mary?” James asks incredulously, immediately recognising her laughter.
The unnamed guy speaks again. “How the fuck didn’t you know? They literally eye fuck each other across breakfast.”
“I was too busy staring at you Reg.”
Reg. Regulus Black. Sirius’s little brother.
Mary gasps. “Oh Sirius is going to kill you.”
Regulus just huffs. “I’d like to see him try.”
Then he looks at the rest of them. “Well? Who’s leaving?”
“Don’t we get an invitation to join you?” Mary asks instead as Regulus smirks.
Lily and James stare at each other, horrified.
Their friendship might be worse than anything Sirius could do.

Sirius hadn’t thought it would be a problem. He didn’t think it was something he even had to be worried about.
Really, he should have expected it.
James had a specific type after all - in other words anyone who would insult him.
And listen Sirius knew. In an abstract sort of way.
Regulus was known for his sharp tongue. But he never really made the connection. After all, Sirius was there when Regulus was still young, still unaware of everything and was the sweetest boy with the biggest heart.
And well, Sirius knew no matter what he said Regulus was still that boy inside.
So it might have slipped his mind that Regulus was, well -
“If you’re planning on killing me with that hairdo, consider it a valiant attempt.”
Sirius is about to save James’s honour when -
“If it gets you looking at me I’d say it’s doing a great job.” James said, already breathless, eyes wide as he stared at Regulus.
Regulus simply raises an eyebrow, quirking his lips.
Sirius feels a mounting sense of horror as he glances at both of them - who were fully ignoring him at the moment.
Fuck.
He had gone through all the possible outcome of their first meet up - from a duel to cold indifference.
Clearly, he’d forgotten another option.

I see your "Sirius and Remus were the last people to know they were dating" and raise you a "Regulus was the only person to realize Sirius and Remus were dating" because even at a distance he knows his brother better than anyone

They didn’t talk anymore.
They had agreed that it was a mistake - that they had been young and stupid and that it was just hormones.
Well, that was what James thought anyways.
It was a lie, a complete and utter lie. Regulus may be young but he knew he loved James - loved him more than he probably would anyone else.
And, well, for a moment there Regulus had believed that James loved him too. With that burning all consuming kind of love that made you cross lines you never thought you would in their defence.
Yet. They were doomed from the start. Of course they were. And Regulus refused to be the reason that James would go down with him, he was too good of a person to be stuck with someone like him.
Regulus tries telling him but when James remains stubborn and easter gets closer, the day he gets marked gets closer, he knows he has to do something.
He loved James enough to let him go. He knew James wouldn’t give up on them of his own violation.
“Obliviate.”
See, love is tricky. A love like that is hard to forget. So he convinced James that it was infatuation - merely a bad decision to let off steam.
Even though it felt like he was tearing his heart out, Regulus did it. Cause James deserved it.
A new chance. A better one. One where he would get together with Lily as it always should have been.

Regulus had gotten used to it.
Seniors. Friends. His classmates. Even the teachers sometimes.
He never could get out of Sirius’s shadow and the nicknames basically proved it.
Baby Black. Younger Black. Slytherin Black.
He’s heard all the variations and he hated every single fucking one of them.
But over the years, he’d learned to tolerate it.
Yet it didn’t escape his notice that of all the people his brother and family included - only James Potter had never used that nickname.
He had never really thought too hard about it until they were paired up for prefect rounds, and even over the course of a couple of months, James had only referred to him as Regulus or Reg.
Finally, Regulus couldn't take it anymore.
"Why don't you call me baby Black?"
James stared at him, raising an eyebrow. "I thought you hated that nickname?"
Regulus opens his mouth. "Yes but -" It's not stopped anyone before.
James carries on with the previous conversation, ignoring the pause - as though it's really that simple. Regulus didn't like the nickname and therefore, James didn't use it.
And maybe it really is that easy.

I love Regulus with the whole “I know I will be dead long before you read this but I want you to know it was I who discovered your secret” thing. Like yes, I too couldn’t bear the thought of not getting credit for doing iconic shit even after my death.

Obsessed with the idea of Slytherin Skittles true crime podcast that is just them reading over real crimes and pointing out each of the criminal’s mistakes.
once, someone repeatedly sent them hate comments saying they could never do better causing Batshit Barty and the gang to go “Bet”
A week later, A newly freed child abuser who didn’t serve his time was found dead with the exact same MO they said in the latest episode of the podcast with none of the mistakes they pointed out. No one could prove they did it yet everyone knew.
The podcast continued as usual.

Of course James would fall for Regulus. He canonically adores Sirius and likes Lily being mean to him and who combines both of those things perfectly?

I think the most tragic part about the black brothers is that regulus blames Sirius for finding a support system and leaving him to have to chance to finally live while sirius blames regulus for always trying to be the good son and not standing up for him so that he doesn’t get in trouble when in reality both of them are just kids trying to survive and the only ones to blames are their parents

Okay but what if Regulus didn’t know Sirius ran away to the Potters? What if he genuinely thought that his parents had killed Sirius? What if he mourned his death only to find out that Sirius was actually alive and well with his actual brother and had completely forgotten about him
