Adding up on this : the ACHOO syndrome or photic sneeze doesn't necessarily have to involve light or pulling your hair (or in my case plucking my eyebrows), sometimes it also involves eating chocolate ! The more concentrated in cocoa the chocolate is the more likely this reaction will happen (at least in my case). I'm not sure what causes this reaction, hair pulling makes sense since it's close to the special nerve that triggers sneezes but chocolate doesn't make a lot of sense (I've seen article saying it was related to being photic but never saw an explanation). So to all of those that sneeze when pulling their hair, eat chocolate or tweeze their eyebrows, I've got some news for you xD
I know from genetic testing that I have the gene that causes photic sneezing (or ACHOO syndrome lmao), but I've never actually been sensitive to bright light. I figured that the gene just wasn't expressed.
HOWEVER
Today I found a research paper that details that the gene/syndrome can be expressed in TWO ways. One is the usual bright light exposure, but the other one is apparently... hair pulling.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I used to sneeze occasionally when plucking my eyebrows, but that doesn't happen anymore. I have noticed, though, that sometimes if I get a hair pulled on my scalp, or if I'm scratching my scalp, it can make me feel kind of sneezy. Exactly once I was pulling my hair back, and my hair was a bit tangled (it's curly). A few hairs got tugged painfully, and I sneezed. So I think I'm a hair-pull sneezer instead of photic?? I just wish it was a stronger reaction, because dang. That could be fun to play with.

i always hear about big noses but…. may i present to you: small noses? how do you fit so many tickles in that tiny little nose, bunny? so delicate, so sensitive. all those nerve endings bunched into tiny nostrils. imagine taking a feather to them…

CW : Coughing a few times, soft sneezes, hitching, sniffling, some more vocal "noises" (sfw don't worry)
Breaking my pause with a recording of my allergic suffering xD. Also I cut a few of my coughs (sorry about them) and silences in between this wasn't all back to back thankfully ^^'

CW : Contagion and discourse
Might take a little break from scrolling around tumblr for my mental health's sake, seeing the discourse going around about intentionally infecting people and overall contagion is really fucking me up mentally. To anyone who might think this is okay, respectfully go fuck yourself. I'm usually a very chill person but this shit drives me insane. For one, this is absolutely vile in terms of consent, you have no right to get people sick for your own pleasure. Moreover, you don't know if the person could get severely sick or hospitalized from your inconsiderate actions. As someone with several chronic illnesses that fights against isolating themselves in fear of getting sick, you're irresponsible and your actions are fucked up.
I love you all, but I gotta peace out for a bit

Not snz but important ! ‼️⚠️
As summer is slowly approaching and temperatures are rising, here's a little reminder for all of us who are taking SSRI, SNRI and TCA Antidepressants (sertraline, amitriptyline, doxepin, escitalopram and others) Amphetamines (methylphenidate) and Antipsychotics (chlorpromazine) to be careful with heat as these medicines can make you more sensitive to higher temperatures and as a result, heat-related illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat strokes.
Other medications can potentially cause this effect so here's a reminder for you to check if the treatment you're on can cause it ‼️
So make sure to stay in the shade, hydrate regularly, keep cool, of course put sunscreen on and take care during this season 🌱☀️
Feel free to reblog so as many people can see this and be careful ❤️

A shivery sickie with a sneezy red nose whimpering as their partner gently lifts them up, helping them out of their clothes. The caretaker coos softly at sniffly sickie, carrying them to a nice hot steamy bath.
The caretaker lowers their partner into the warm water, with a soft "there we go baby, doing so well... good..."
The sickie whines as the heat soaks into their bones... but also as the steam enters their sensitive nostrils.
"HhH!" They hitch suddenly, their reddened, glistening nostrils twitching. Caretaker looks on at their itchy partner, and then at the slowly rising steam. They sigh and lean forward, planting a soft kiss on the sickie's twitching nose.
The sickie hitches loudly and vocally before dissolving into a thick "hhH'gGSHUuwhh! Ng'SHuUuWhh!!"
They pause, stuck in their sick misery as a third sneeze teeters on the edge of release. The sickie hitches and whines, blindly pawing at their partner. Caretaker reaches forward once more, flicking the sickie's inflamed, mess-ridden nose.
The poor sick baby's head rears back and snaps forward as they release a horribly desperate "EeEEhHh'GGhhSHuUUhhh!!" directly into the steamy bathwater. They slump down back into the water, panting heavily.
"There we go baby, that better?" The caretaker smiles softly down at their exhausted partner. Their partner just sniffles in response.
