we are so ableist about memory. people with good memory take for granted the fact that they can recall as much as they can, and use that to taunt, guilt and threaten people with memory issues. many neurotypes and mental illnesses cause memory lapses. traumatic brain injuries can cause memory lapses. brain cancer can cause memory lapses.
even if your memory is good, it's not right to guilt someone because they can't remember something. trust me, people with memory problems are desperately trying to remember: it's just that we literally can't. it is a very literal "i can't remember".

Let’s be honest - Everest should be cut off from climbers, and the only people that should be allowed up there are ppl who volunteer to clean up all the garbage and human excrement adrenaline junkies have left up there over the decades, and anyone who volunteers to attempt to bring down any bodies of those who died.
The ascent is too dangerous, too many ill-equipped and unprepared climbers try to make the climb, and too much garbage is piling up and poisoning the run off that communities around Everest rely on to live.

it’s pride month and as an asexual person, i really wanted to make a post that is important to me.
i am already starting to see a lot of asexuality-based pride posts that are keeping up the notion that all asexual people are completely sex repulsed and NEVER engage with any sort of sexual thing ever, which is an extremely outdated concept that isn’t as inclusive as it seems.
there are just as many sex-positive and sex-neutral asexuals who use the label as sex-repulsed ones. by consistently putting out asexual pride merchandise like “cake! not sex!” and “eeerm. i’d rather read about dragons than porn!” it’s alienating a lot asexual people who feel weird using the term because they do enjoy things like sex or porn.
there are asexual sex workers, asexual smut fanfic writers, asexuals who engage in sexual conversations with others, asexuals who do hookups, asexuals who run kink blogs, asexuals who do everything an allosexual person does with a much lowered sense of attraction to people if any at all. those people also deserve to feel good.
asexuality is simply a lack or lowered amount of sexual attraction to others. that doesn’t mean that lack of attraction immediately turns into repulse at the concept every single time. this lack of budge with the label being inherently connected to pure sex repulsion is why so many people are worried to actually use the label.
sex-positive, sex-neutral, sex-repulsed, even asexuals who feel like their opinions change over time depending on their mood, they’re all as equally valid as an outdated slogan for a sexuality.

a quick “why is my life so bad” checklist
how’s your sleep schedule
have you eaten or drank anything besides sugar and caffeine
how long have you been sitting in one spot
have you gone out in public recently
have you taken a shower/brushed your teeth/groomed yourself properly
have you spent time doing an activity that doesn’t involve a screen
etc

something I've recently noticed with characters -- mainly my d&d characters -- is that backstories are especially fun if you take a trope or a common backstory but change your character's role in it. Bonus points if they're the "villain" in this trope, whether by accident/misunderstanding or actions they intended to do but will/do regret after character development.
"my parents were killed by a (vampire/evil wizard/raging maniac/whatever)" but you're the one who killed someone's parents and now they're out to fucking Get You.
"my spouse/significant other died and I'm out to avenge them" but you're an undead or have the Reborn lineage or something and you're the dead spouse trying to find your revenge-obsessed lover before they do something they'll regret.
"my village was taken over by a tyrant" but you're the tyrant who's been chased out and fallen out of power and now you have to get Away From Here Fast.
"my noble family's manor burned down and I want to find the person who did it" but you're the housemaid who's been cast aside and put out of a job, and needs a quick way to make some money.
it sort of instantly gives the character more depth and makes the backstory feel more three-dimensional. Your character has done something wrong, whether by accident or on purpose, and that makes them feel more human. Not to mention the fact that many of these automatically create the easy-to-harness plot device of Someone Is After Me.
Anyways, hope that's helpful in some way :> happy character making!

“No one wants to look at art of OCs” I don’t think that’s true at all…I follow people specifically to see their OCs literally all the time. Bring back being curious about people’s OCs, asking questions about them and hyping them up like we did when we were teens

[gripping you so tightly and looking you in the eyes] listen to me. disability is the central theme of the owl house. luz hardly fits in on earth because she's the "weird girl" (read: neurodivergent) and when she finally finds a world that's just as "weird" as her she now must "fit in" in an entirely different way because now she PHYSICALLY differs from the residents of the boiling isles. she PHYSICALLY lacks the organ used to perform magic and must use aids to make up for it. willow is placed into a school course she cannot complete physically and struggles greatly for it to the point where it ruins her mental health, and thrives once she's placed in a class that actually physically accommodates her and the magic she uses. Gus struggles with his emotions to the point where he has meltdowns where magic goes completely out of control and needs to learn how to trust himself and his body to manage it. Eda's life was ruined because of a curse that is an incredibly obvious metaphor for chronic illness, and she loses everything because she has no clue how to manage it because she has no resources. When she learns how to manage her chronic illness, she thrives again. Her mother is hell-bent on finding her a "proper cure" to "fix" her daughter because she can't accept the fact that her daughter is disabled, leading her to invest in huge health scams. Eda feels extreme guilt for crippling her father and ruining his career via her own curse, and reconciles with him in a scene where she accepts both his disability and her own. Hunter spends his whole life trying to be "useful", desperately trying to prove he's worth something despite the fact that he PHYSICALLY can't perform magic. Characters with traditionally """ugly""" features such as scars and acne are treated entirely normally, to the point where it's just casually accepted. Disability is the whole entire point of it all.

OK Tumblr Geriatric Ward, let’s talk about your posture-
Tumblr media
there are things you should be doing now to prevent yourself from starting to look like 🥀
Why does it matter? Future you would like to avoid the pain, limited motion, and fall risk that goes along with worsening posture.
What’s the focus?
1. Keep the flexibility in your spine
2. Stretch the muscles in the front
3. Strengthen the muscle in the back
Here are some simple things you can do daily while sitting and when you get up to go into the bathroom or the kitchen
Keep the flexibility by doing these repeated movements: 10 repetitions several times a day
Tumblr media
The goal is to give yourself a double or triple chin. Keep your nose pointing forward, don’t let it tip up or down
Tumblr media
Thoracic extension- use a chair with a seat back that comes up to the level of your shoulder blades. Try to bend back over the top of the chair without arching away from the seat back and without extending your neck. If the pressure from the top of the chair is uncomfortable you can place a towel there
Stretch the muscles in the front by using a door frame. This one will feel good afterwards
Tumblr media
If this isn’t enough of a stretch you can do one side at a time. If you have the right arm up step forward with the right foot and turn slightly to the left. Then do it on the other side.
Tumblr media
Strengthen the muscles in the back by squeezing your shoulder blades together for a count of 10 and then repeating 10 times. You can do this several times a day Hint: Don’t lift your shoulder blades up
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are lots more exercises for strengthening your back muscles but this is a good starting point and easy to do. I like doing it while driving
Tips:
Do the best you can
If it hurts stop
Envision future you saying thank you each time you do one of the exercises

I don't know who needs to hear this, but if the phrase "self care" doesn't resonate with you, try calling it "system maintenance" and see if that clicks.
