Friendly reminder that in the same chapter we find out Azriel's shadows keep him company "as they always had, as they always would", we also find out that his shadows sing and dance for Gwyn while "they'd always been prone to vanish" around Elain.

Literally foreshadowing ✨

Also, "his shadows had not warned him" that Gwyn was in the training ring. The other side argues that Gwyn is evil but do you honestly think his shadows wouldn't have warned him about her presence if she was really evil? Oh wait, I know, Azriel is an evil shadowsinger too!

"His shadows peered over his wings at her."

"The young priestess smiled -- and Azriel thought it might have been directed at his curious shadows."

"Her breath curled in front of her mouth, and one of his shadows darted out to dance with it before twirling back to him."

"Even his shadows had calmed. As if content to lounge on his shoulders and watch."

"Could have sworn his shadows sang in answer."

If you take these quotes and show it to any random person, I guarantee you nine out of ten of them (the one in the ten is an Elriel lol) will agree that his shadows like Gwyn or, at the very least, definitely do not think she's going to harm Azriel. Regardless, the wording implies that his shadows do not see Gwyn as a dangerous threat at all.

For instance, SJM could have easily changed "curious shadows" to "cautious shadows" and we would know his shadows are wary of her. BUT SHE DIDN'T. Instead, curiosity implies a degree of interest. In one chapter, his shadows show more chemistry and interest in Gwyn than Azriel and Elain ever had in "four books of build-up".

Btw, I've said it before and I will say it again:

When a side character introduced in the latest book can threaten supposedly "four books of build-up" is how you know there actually isn't any "four books of build-up".

congratulations i've never been a fan of sangcheng mostly bc i TRIED but i'm not really interested in their early days dynamic and post-canon i find it hard to believe it could ever happen. but the weird messy version which may or may not lead to wwx-jc reconciliation but imo cannot end happily if jc finds out about the whole jin ling thing IS interesting to me!! Actually I think I only like this if it doesn't work out between jc and nhs so I don't think I can call myself a sangcheng shipper now if I only want mess and an unhappy ending but you know. i'd read a fic about them now if this specific one existed!

In theory I'd be down for either, but I always manage to trick myself into wanting a happy ending by the end of a fic I'm really enjoying. I think they're both really exhausted post-canon and in most universes they just avoid each other but there's one or two where Nie Huaisang tricks Jiang Cheng into doing his homework, which makes Jiang Cheng feel needed, and dangles him in front of Wei Wuxian for sport, which makes Jiang Cheng feel wanted, and they're the only two major sect leaders who are both adults and not in seclusion so I can see them getting stuck eating lunch together enough for Nie Huaisang to develop ideas.

#the jl thing is a real sticking point it's very possible this all ends in hysterical tears and what would be a diplomatic incident if anyone #involved had the energy for that #early days they're just both here for wwx and really only hang our alone when he ditches them for lwj #however!!! i think they are genuinely fond enough of each other #like they might not have hung out without wwx but now that they're here they're having fun with it #especially again in cql they clearly genuinely care about each other #nhs is throwing that party for both of them! jc huffily throws nhs out of the room so he can't see him cry. it's cute

Imagine if during the stick!Alan au while they're staying with Chosen right after the showdown, the guilt ends up getting to him and he tries to sneak away because he's also scared that he might hurt the sticks again or because he feels bad about having done so in the first place and they have to track him down. i think that he'd be too anxious about the others to leave them alone (SC would be VERY upset if he left and made that very clear when they freaked out upon not immediately seeing him with the others when they came back to consciousness but i could see him wandering and getting lost just because he needs some time away to process all of this..... so mayhaps......

#artemis is dead AND alive to me #hear me out #i don't think you're the only traveller who's met artemis in-universe #artemis could be a recurring pattern that has appeared in many different traveller iterations #maybe not in EVERY iteration but i believe a good portion has still met them #by extension perhaps apollo and null too. then they could also be seen as recurring patterns #but they might not come in the same package with artemis. call them free goodies you never know when you'll get them #but there's a very real chance.#if a traveller meets artemis it's not guaranteed that they'll go through the usual procedure of the artemis questline #like they could ditch artemis (or die) halfway through or they simply choose to ignore them alltogether #do keep in mind we're talking IN-UNIVERSE here. gameplay mechanics like respawning are thrown out of the window #now here's my main point (HUGE SPOILERS)#the travellers who have to make THE choice can't all be going for the same choice #so there's going to be plenty of dead artemises and artemises who are alive in the simulation #we're talking about this on a multiversal scale #and the artemis up to the point before the choice is pseudo dead. or pseudo alive if you will because it's like a 50/50 thing #artemis has 3 states: dead. alive and pseudo dead/alive #this all sounds very familiar doesn't it? schrodinger's cat moment #they're not exactly the same but they're damn close enough to me #if artemis really is a recurring pattern in different traveller iterations then artemis has probably met more travellers than anyone else #only beaten by nada and polo #artemis would have realized their dream but in an extreme way. they're meeting other travellers on a multiversal scale #nms artemis #no man's sky #shit just realized there's another thing to expand on but i'm too tired by now. it's gonna have to go in an analysis if it ever comes out

I love blue beetle and its message and I wish more people had watched it and I understand that the lack of promotion both because of the strikes and because the studios don't give a shit has affected it negatively and the role that racism/xenophobia play in people's disinterest towards the characters in general BUT PLEASE let's also not forget about superhero fatigue

#i keep seeing people complain about the marvels and blue beetle flopping like: we finally got representation and people aren't showing up #and honestly have they considered that these movies (although valuable stories) are being made in part as a last ditch attempt at relevancy #marvel didn't make the Black Widow movie when it thought it had something to lose which ironically would've been a better statement than #those post-mortem crumbs they tossed at us with it #black adam shang chi blue beetle eternals and whatever else... people forget these studios need audience more than the audience needs them #they're not doing it cause representation suddenly matters (and I don't mean creators and especially not poc I mean the suits)#they're doing it cause they have something to gain and nothing to lose that they're aren't losing already (attention/public interest)#and above all else: money #so sure it's upsetting that one of my favorite superheroes is not getting the love he deserves but look at the market baby #we're fucking tired and these crumbs don't help and the political climate is a mess #studios wave diversity on our faces and even preach some good messages but then they go and put their money where exactly?#hm.#blue beetle #marvel #dceu
