Colin is a GIVER. And we also know from the books and just his general personality that like many middle children before him he has a bit of a praise kink, so it’s always his goal to please others and he gets his own pleasure from seeing people happy/receiving positive feedback from his actions.
I think this is why things also shift for him when Penelope encourages his writing, at the full moon ball he’s literally crushing so hard just because she’s saying she wants to read more, that that is what she would like from him. And to be fair she has always stroked his ego, but it’s different when this is something so private between them, no one else knows about his writing and it feels secretive and a bit salacious, especially considering what passage she read.
In the dream sequence Dream Penelope is gasping and moaning and enjoying herself to the utmost, gasping his name, just true wanton behavior. It’s clear he’s replaying their first kiss in his head and imagining how he wanted it in a best case scenario “this is what I would do if I had a second chance, I’d really give her everything” AND the fact that she gives him validation by saying she feels the same and wants him as well.
and then IRL in the carriage, he is like what can I do with my limited time to bring her the most intense pleasure I can. Like, they could’ve just made out but it wasn’t enough, he was probably thinking last time I didn’t do enough for you, so here goes nothing. And you can see it in his face that he is LOVING the fact that she is loving every second. He’s so crazy for that AHAHA and it’s what she deserves. they are literally soulmates, the girl who wants everything, the boy who wants to give her everything 🤝

The crazy unfortunate thing I'm seeing with Will and Alice Mondrich is they took to heart Benedict's advice, which was good. But it wasn't great advice. Not for a pair, while married, who are too new money and very much outsiders to the ton. Yes the gentlemen know him because of his boxing and the club, but he's gone from low class entertainer to businessman to peerage and many, many old school do not like change in the ranks. Especially if there is such a jump for people in lower classes.
What Benedict failed to realize or mention, depending on his mindset (though I know without a doubt the lack of forethought wasn't in malice, it was Benedict Bridgerton being Benedict Bridgerton) is that, this works for himself. This "we can do whatever we want" idea works because he is a Bridgerton. And those older married couples are past their prime. And are old money. They have influence. Benedict and his family get away with a lot because they're old money, influential, and have the most eligible sons and daughters. And, at this point, have shown to be able to weather a little scandal.
Will and Alice Mondrich have NONE of these advantages. The ink is still wet on the papers that gave them (their son) this title. The only advantage they have over the ones watched and judged the most (the debutantes and the eligible bachelors) is that they are married and are given an inch to wiggle.
Benedict's advice should have been given a grain of salt and I think Alice realizes this first as the first four episodes show time progressing. She shows up to events alone and is told by Lady Danbury it's inappropriate for Will to work now that he is part of the peerage. But Will wants to hold on tight to what society dictates he should let go of and what he was proud of most. There's nothing wrong with wanting to hold on to that and keep true to his roots. But there is a lord who also tells him there are limits, it's not just Alice and Lady Danbury talking. (And honestly, good on that lord for giving advice. Most would let him fail without a word.) There are a few alternatives for Will regarding the bar, probably in the form of investments and silent partnership or frequenting to be social while staying out from behind the bar. It is interesting that their behavior at balls and events is rather proper, it's their non event behavior that rankles.
Benedict unfortunately shows his own naivety (a delightful addition to the times we see it in Daphne, Anthony, Eloise and Colin through the three seasons so far) as someone privileged, unaware of every single nook and cranny filled with their advantages of birth and social standing (and each time a sibling experiences it, it's different, which is great) and it's a big wake up call. So far, we haven't seen any realization in Benedict, but we only have half the season and the Mondrich story line is still ongoing. So it will be interesting to see how their story affects Benedict in this way (if at all, of course, but we're 4/4 so far.. though I think Eloise has more to come for sure given she hasn't even gotten a season yet).
Anyway, random thoughts on the lovely Mondrichs and their tie to Benedict this season.
