not specifically instances where he corrects dan, but he also commonly mentions aro/ace ppl when he discusses relationship advice, etc. from what i remember phil also uses they/them for ppl of unknown pronouns more commonly than dan (eg. during phan prix of bday stream) but this can very much be a lapse in my memory lol. imo phil definitely seems as if not more socially conscious (at least in their online depictions) than dan in the way that he thinks his words through more when touching on sensitive subjects and recognizes how even his phrasing can be impactful (which probably is part of the reason why he refrains from lingering on these issues as a whole) whereas dan often makes comments on a whim for humour.

Yes! Thank you! These are great examples. Yeah Phil isn't perfect either, but he often thinks about how his words might come across more than Dan. some people seem to believe that he doesn't have strong political opinions which I don't think is true. He's said that he doesn't feel like it's his place to speak on things that he's not an expert on and I think that's a pretty smart move. Sometimes Dan will talk about something he only has a surface level understanding of and end up saying things that are a bit insensitive. Like how he keeps saying that the world will be better when all the old people die. There are a lot of old people who are trans, queer, poor or leftist who are just as marginalized by the current system as young people. And a lot of young people are bigoted capitalists who are contributing to the destruction of the planet.

There was also that time when he accidentally retweeted a carrd that had links to a fundraiser for a militant Russian extremist group, thinking it was for Ukraine. He took it down after an hr and then didn't bother to post a better one when Phil did. I'm still a bit annoyed at him for that ngl. It wouldn't have taken him very long to verify his sources before posting.

I also don't like how he keeps equating "woman" to boobs and vagina and "man" to penis. It seems a bit inconsiderate of trans people.

Before any dannies coming running to my inbox to defend him, I'm aware that he doesn't do it maliciously and that he genuinely does care and tries his best. [Music is a very big part of my life and I’m MOSTLY INCAPABLE of writing without music, so I just thought I'd share what I am listening to while writing this]

Ladies, Gentlemen and Distinguished Enbies, how have you all been?

As I’m writing this, the schedule for FESTA 2023 was just released so, i’ll make sure to post this today, so I can focus on it 🤩🤩🤩.

Hope you haven’t allowed too many pestering things in the fandom ruffle your beautiful feathers. It might seem like there is a lot to be angry about, but IN MY OPINION we keep getting appalled and distracted by the same-ol’same ol’, which, NGL, plays perfectly into the hands of those who want to see us triggered and ignore, for example, ACTUAL ANGER INDUCING shit that has been going on in the industry potentially affecting the members, some more than others; NAMELY JIMIN. BUT the title of this post is Queer Realizations and Acceptances, right? So, forgive me, let me not digress.

From the beginning of this year, I’ve been concentrating heavily on all aspects of my health and thus far, even though it has been so groundbreaking in many positive ways, it has brought about a lot of things I had to face head-on, ready-or-not style. This particular weekend, my family and I met with another family for a nice lunch. During this meeting it was made pretty clear to me that, at this stage in my life, if I were to pursue being my TRUE SELF, a European-born African Queer Woman, with anyone other than my sibling and close cousins, within my family, I would never bring my family any joy, or sense of pride and I would most certainly ostracise myself. And because I also realised that I really love my family, there is really nothing I can do.

These are the cards I was dealt and that I have finally accepted. As a consequence, I have started making my statement clear on my wish to not want to marry, which has liberated me so much; SO FUCKING MUCH. With that weight off my shoulder, the desire to start working on my project has been growing stronger by the day, and with that I also finally came face-to-face with my biggest fear, the one and only reason why I haven’t been able to sit-down and write. I’ve been working on this like half my life, and though it is not the theme it is LGBTQ-heavy, hence I have been feeling literally petrified at the idea of this project somehow ending up catching a public eye or two. Take the infamous situation with Kit Connor, he was basically pushed into having to reveal his sexuality and I CANNOT, AND WILL NOT, HAVE THAT. 

I have been working on this project for so long, it is my baby, so I want it out in the world, but at the same time I also want to keep my family. I know it sounds like a Have your cake and eat it situation, but that is indeed my situation and: I WANT BOTH. Particularly when, to begin with, it is hella unfair for these two things to be mutually exclusive. So as I kept thinking, Jikook came to mind. For all the speculation, all the love, all the hate, all the gossip, all the rumours, all their actions, all their silences … we still don’t have any confirmation, or negation, regarding whether they are straight or queer. So why couldn’t this be me? 

The only big difference I could spot is that differently from Europe and America, in Asia a journalist will not come up and ask you flat out “Are you Gay?” In fact the private lifestyle of an Asian idol, where just dating is a scandal hence everyone keeps it underwraps, and companies also help you to do so if theta re invested in you enough could prove rather beneficial and a good protection unless you get caught of course 😬😬😬. Nevertheless, as I am not in Asia, I do not have that option but I have indeed figured out what I am going to do in my case if that time were ever to arise 🤡😌. Basically, NEVER LET ANYONE FORCE YOU TO COME OUT. I think this is not said enough, but if you don’t want to come out, YOU 👏🏾 DON’T 👏🏾 HAVE 👏🏾 TO 👏🏾.

Now, obviously I don't know if Jikook assuming they are queer would ever want to come out or not, it is a scary world out there and safety comes ALWAYS FIRST. However, ultimately it is up to them, and in the same way I would want people to respect my decision, even if 4 years from now it becomes painfully clear maybe by being the only two members that aren't married but somehow live together that they indeed are, if by then nothing has still been confirmed or denied then; CLEARLY that would have been their answer with that question. Period.

So, if I ever were to get "fans" one day, I apologise in advance for my secrecy in regards, but whatever action I take will be my stance. You will be free to speculate and do all that I am respectfully doing with Jikook at the moment, of course, but just as well, because I would have been on both sides, I also know that you won’t die from lack of knowledge; no matter how badly you want to know. BUT THEN AGAIN who knows, maybe by the time I get to that point the world might have made a complete 360 and being part of the Queer community 🏳️‍🌈 wouldn't be such a problematic thing anymore. I wouldn’t hold my breath on this but, hey, miracles do happen, so I can but hope 😊.

Anyways, enough of my rambling, let's all get ready for FESTA 2023, apparently there already is something on schedule for tomorrow so y'all ... like ... THE OT7 IN MY CAN'T EVEN.

I love my friends but 1 of them is sometimes weirdly transphobic. Sometimes queer identities come up in our convo's and she'll bring her own opinion onto trans stuff. But she has a mixed view on what being trans means and it doesnt seem like she wants to learn, just be right.

Neopronouns also once came up and she claimed they were transphobic. Another friend chimed in "i think some people use them unironically? Tho i dont really get it" and you know what she did? The entire time she made fun of neopronouns. *I* use neopronouns. I dont use them irl in public but my bios on my socials very much say "any neo is fine" for my pronouns.

She also dates someone she admits is homo and transphobic. According to her, he's "fine with gay people who arent over the top" and that she wants to change him. Our friend group (all of them except for me are straight or bi) generally hangs out with him but ive never spoken to him. Idk knowing he's transphobic scares me.

Also another friend said something too that kinda shocked me? In animal crossing, you have a villager named Julia. Julia is a peacock and very strickinly looks like a male one (they look really different from female ones! If you look up male peacocks and julia from animal crossing you can see she distinctly looks like those), so a common headcanon is that Julia is trans. I just joked to my friend that Julia is trans and suddenly, this other friend i mentioned went "oh come on not every character needs to be gay." What?? Like, he fully said it in an angry way like he was offended i dared think a MALE LOOKING PEACOCK WHO IDENTIFIES AS A WOMAN is trans?? I explained my reasoning to him and he begrudingly went "well ok i guess but i hate it when people make video gane characters queer for no reason." Shit was shocking.

They're friends i'll keep during college but ngl, if i find another friend group where 2 of the people in it dont randomly spout transphobia, i will just leave them. I'm getting really fucking tired of their antics.

I'm ngl. I WAS joking with my "haha I should gatekeep Crocodile" post but honestly... Its becoming less and less of a joke every day.

Its kinda getting Difficult to enjoy Croc due to how many people just don't take his trans-coding seriously and at most treat it as a passing joke or a means to make "haha crocomom" gags. Like genuinely I am already sick and tired of it and I think it might actually be impacting my mental health Which sounds insane I know. Its purely because of what it means for how ppl view trans men within the queer community itself, so it gets. You know. A little upsetting to be a trans dude and seeing ppl constantly make art of "genderbent croc", making jokes misgendering Crocodile, and talk abt how hes hotter as a woman or some shit like that. Idk. Maybe I'm being touchy about it.

Mh, ngl, I considered just deleting this ask because it's ridiculous. But sure, on the pissing-on-the-poor website, let's answer it.

I love Percy Jackson and the Olympians. I have a lot of beef with the sub-par writing in Heroes of Olympus and I did, in fact, stop engaging with Riordan's writing after that series because it kept getting worse. That doesn't make me stop loving the characters or the world though.

Unsure what made you think I don't like PJO, can only assume you came across my Riordan Critical tag posts.

And if that's the case then, damn, I'm just a fan of not... mindlessly consuming media, I think that it's fun to apply my critical thinking brain to the things I consume. And, quite frankly, for a lot of Riordan's bad decisions, I do think they need to be called out. The majority of flag he gets is for bad representation and it would be horrendous if people just... sad down and ignored it. I'll not do that, as a woman and as a queer person, and I will stand with every POC who feels misrepresented by him.

I also have yet to find the perfect piece of media that isn't worthy of any form of critic. That doesn't exist. Even for my most favorite show, I could make you a very lengthy critical post right now.

I don't know why there is this assumption that if you find flaw in something, and if you voice the flaw, then you must not like it. It just means you have... reading comprehension and critical thinking??

Lastly, I don't really know how I feel about your choice to call it a "children's media", because it comes off like an attempt to mock me for still engaging with it when, in fact, probably two third of any given old children's media are usually adults who used to grow up on it. At the very least half of this fandom is by now in their thirties. Don't act like just because a book published in 2005 that was aimed at preteens then has an exclusively preteen fandom now. That's ridiculous.

So, I hope that answered your question! I'm a huge fan of the original series, I think the author dropped the ball in the sequel but not enough to make me absolutely loathe everything associated with it, and I also happen to have grown up loving it and have the nostalgic attachment to it.

ngl FE has made a lot of stride with queer rep. like yeah sure it started rough with the gay marriage options in fates with active gameplay downsides, but 3h was a HUGE step up with legitimate gay options (even if us mlm had it. ROUGH. at launch. god) + paired endings for same gender characters, and now engage doing away with the gender lock on supports altogether.

not to dismiss rep outside of supports, too. the tellius games already gave us the subtextually not so subtly gay ike, and the very blatantly gay heather. echoes had leon, who was SO important to me as a kid cuz he made me realize gay people r real, and that i am one of them. well bi but same difference.

post awakening in particular the series has ramped up queerness with every installment (often clumsily, but i believe well intentioned), that at this point it does not suprise me to see chrobin pushed as a gay pairing (especially when a straight version is readily available!)

like. gay marriage was still illegal in the US when awakening came out. gay marriage is still illegal in japan. it has been a LITERAL DECADE since the game launched and the cultural conciousness around queerness has shifted A LOT.

chrobin already reads as incredibly queer within just awakening itself, so rather than baiting it feels like this is all just building on what's present in the game itself. chrom and robin could get married in the game already - if robin's a woman. and if you know me, you know i think chrobin significantly enhances the story of awakening for a variety of reasons. they just took that, said "hey, what if we can do this with male robin too" and then. did.

Welll, it's easier to find crazy heroes than crazy heroines because misogyny (and I actually don't think I've read any queer books with two crazy leads, which I IMAGINE has something to do with the idea that queer books, especially sapphic books, need to be more "palatable").

But I've got some recs! I would as always, generally recommend Immortals After Dark because it's amazing (my favorite series ever, probably) and additionally.... The heroes are OFTEN insane, and the heroines often dance a little close to the edge too.

Special shoutouts:

Kiss of a Demon King by Kresley Cole. This is... Rydstrom and Sabine are iNSANE. And the thing with him is that he's very repressed, and he wants to be Good. He gets kidnapped and sexually tormented by a completely insane, evil woman who eventually ends up falling for him, and vice versa. I will say--there's dubcon on both sides. She basically edges him while he's in chains in an attempt to get him to give in; ngl, it's really hot. And then there's dubcon when he gets out and is like "oooooh I am getting EVEN". There's a lot of "FINISH idnE" with this one.

Lothaire by Kresley Cole. So Ellie, our heroine, is really not crazy... for most of the book. She does do one Extremely Significant Thing, however, that is SO INSANE that I have to give her some credit there. And he's fully batshit. Like, I'll never forget beginning his POV in that book and he's covered in the remnants of his own carnage and is like "oh, I am NOOOOOOT playing with a full deck right now". Like, he's so self-aware about it? He's like "I may have lost my sanity, but I am NOT! losing my intelligence!!!! Or my hot bod!!!!"

Dark Needs at Night's Edge by Kresley Cole. Again, the heroine is less crazy than the hero, but Neomi still has a screw loose lol. Because she's the ghost of a murdered woman who's been trapped in a mansion for like, over a century! And she has to periodically dance against her will! So who can blame her for doing a striptease for a FULLY INSANE virgin vampire to provoke him into reacting so that she can prove he can see her? (One of my favorite scenes of all time--he's all gritted teeth like "I am NOT God's strongest soldier"). Conrad is so crazy that his vampire brothers, none of whom are super sane, are like "yeah we gotta lock him in this house to try to fix him". Conrad is so crazy, his POV changes tenses halfway through the book (a BRILLIANT narrative device to illustrate his state of mind). Conrad is so crazy he tries to cut his brother off when his brother is like "we kNOW you're a VIRGIN Conrad!!!" because he knows the pretty ghost lady is watching. He fails.

Also, a non IAD Kresley:

The Professional by Kresley Cole. This is an erotic Russian mafia romance; the heroine is kidnapped by the hero, who is her long lost father's enforcer. They immediately hook up on the plane ride to Russia, and we are off to the races because she is here to TORMENT him. I'm about to read the next two books in the trilogy, and I hear the heroes are even crazier. In this case, the heroine is just like. Brat to the EXTREEEME.

Alright, moving on from Kresley.

Mafia Madman by Mila Finelli. Erotic mafia romance. The hero is fully crazy, and with good reason--in the two preceding books in the series (a duet, which I would recommend; the hero is crazy, the heroine really isn't, and neither of them are anywhere near as crazy as Enzo lol) he was the villain, and the previous hero tortured the helll out of him. And he's been living in hiding on a yacht for like. Four years. Separated from his kids (he's a widower). Plotting his revenge. Which he kicks off when he sees the heroine (the previous hero's sister-in-law) on the catwalk. He asks her out for an Aperol spritz. She goes. He bLOWS UP THE BAR AND PLANTS A DEAD BODY IN ORDER FOR KIDNAP HER AND TAKE HER TO HIS YACHT AND KEEP HER IN A CAGE. I love this book. SO MUCH. It's an all time favorite. And Gia's response? Well, if he wants wild, she'll give him wild. So she starts doing naked yoga in the cage, knowing he and his minions can see her. And it just. Continues. From there. At one point he comes back COVERED in blood and he's like "get in the shower, you're going to service me~ while I tell you about my murders" and she like. SWOONS.

Run Posy Run by Cate C. Wells. Another mafia romance. The hero, Dario, is basically a psychopath, and he's the money guy for the local mob. He and the heroine, Posy, are live-in lovers, she expects a ring soon, she's grown up around the life and though the relationship is kind of meh (not abusive, but the sex isn't great, they don't really connect) she's kind of convinced herself that she loves him because he provides security. Someone sends him this video that's been doctored to seem like Posy was cheating, he loses his mind, Posy goes on the run, and then once he realizes the video was bullshit they begin like this... back and forth... of messing with each other's heads? Her teasing him, etc. Again, he's more obviously insane, but Posy WILDS OUT in this book.

Scandal's Bride by Stephanie Laurens. Historical, one of the best books I've read this year. They are both BATSHIT. Like, they meet in a graveyard and make out before saying hi. She believes her goddess has designated him as the father of her children. He's like "oh she is MINE". Heads up: she does drug him for their first encounter (because she's crazy) though he is an active participant--he just thinks he's dreaming. The rest of the book is this truly wiiiild ride wherein he baits her, she responds, she baits him, he responds, he's CONSTANTLY jumping her, she's constantly subjecting him to her weird witchy ways. It's AMAZING.
