After the lesson, Wei Wuxian laughed, saying, “It turns out that the Lan family’s founder is a monk. That explains it. To step into the secular world just to meet one person, and leaving once the person goes, forgoing the world. Yet, how did such an ancestor produce such unromantic descendants?

Chapter 18 - Taming Wangxian

I just love how WWX is finally paying attention to something in class, even though it's about another sect's history and LQR makes it sound boring as hell. All because WWX is such an absolute sweetheart and finds the whole story so romantic.

Then WWX has to get a little dig in about Lan An's descendants, because he's being so pouty about LWJ rejecting him! How does WWX know LWJ is "unromantic"... Unless he's been trying to provoke such behaviour... Unless he's a little upset that LWJ keeps rejecting his invites to Lotus Pier and to dine out together... Unless he actually might have some romantic feelings towards Second Young Master Lan...

WWX even remembers the story years later in his second life - because it left such an impression. He just wants a bit of romance! And LWJ certainly delivers on that when they get together in WWX's second life 💕

My fun crossover headcanon is that Lan An was one of the younger disciples of the royal temple of Xianle. Later, when he grew up and established his own sect, he took a lot of the teachings of his old temple (no alcohol, no promiscuity etc), and some traditions from his fallen home country (such as the music maybe?) with him as foundations to his sect.

i think itll be completely funny if lan an's soulmate/spouse was actually unhinged or at least could give the current lan elders several conniptions just by existing

i can see them being the yang to lan an's yin. perfect balances of each other, but this balance was long fought for and well-earned. they absolutely had a very rocky start but eventually found how to adjust and compromise with each other. their yin yang relationship has been reborn into the family for several generations and wangxian are the latest iteration

i have a headcanon that the cloud motif of the lans came from lan an's spouse. maybe their name meant 'clouds' or something of the sort. maybe their sword or their instrument was named after clouds. maybe they just loved clouds in general. and whatever they loved, lan an also loved in equal measure

also a funnier headcanon is that they had many children. maybe 6. not all of them are biological.

and another headcanon is that lan an had cultivated into immortality and watches over his clan. he also waits for the generations when his love is reincarnated into the world and he descends from his temple to spend another lifetime with them
