We finally started watching OK KO Let's Be Heroes, and it's making me lose my mind at how much disrespect people heap on Ian Jones-Quartey. The racism, the queerphobia, the shit he got from the SU fandom, the shit he has to deal with from Cartoon Network, the way that his show gets blatantly ignored even in Cartoon Network fandom spaces, the fact that people refuse to give him any credit for the hard work he's done in the modern animation industry...it's so disgusting.
OK KO is delightful, and if you like Steven Universe and Adventure Time, OK KO is in a similar vein. It's about a kid in a world of superheroes and supervillains. We're not very far in yet, but it's very cute.
It first hit my radar because my husband was telling me about the queer villain scientists who weren't allowed to get gay married on-screen but show up with wedding rings in the final episode and got confirmed on Twitter by Ian as a bi x pan couple. Obviously I had to know more, and obviously I already love them.
