At first, i thought the whole Colin teaching Pen would be a bit of a mess, but then it becomes clear that he's not teaching anything other than telling her she's already great, she's smart and charming and that she should show the world how great she is and, by being whom she really is, she would surely make men fall for her. That he was too damn dense to understand that this was clearly how HE saw her, how wonderful she was, and that SHE was everything that he wanted & admired in a woman makes everything even tastier. Bless that kiss. He found his way home and never left.

The willow tree scene is kind of heartbreaking because I don't think it went quite how Colin hoped. I think he thought she also felt this crazy shift between them after their kiss and would maybe want to START courting. When she says we cannot continue our lessons, and he says kind of excitedly "I agree!" I think he thinks she means, because she wants him to court her instead. Further implied when he asks for clarification on why, asking if it is "because of what happened between them" alluding to her possible feelings towards him. But of course Penelope's dream of Colin reciprocating her feelings is virtually dead she doesn't even entertain the idea that the kiss could've been as intense for him as it was for her. And he looks so taken aback when she says they should keep their distance, which is literally the opposite of what he wanted. and he still wishes her happiness, even while he's dying inside.

I love how Pen gets exactly what she wants from Colin when she... Just starts asking him for what she wants.

She asked Colin for a kiss, so he gave her a kiss and immediately realized he's obsessed with her and confessed his love while on his knees.

She told Colin she would very much like to be more than friends, so he *checks notes* ferociously made out with her while groping her bosom, fingerblasted her to the Moon and Saturn, and then proposed marriage.

Incredible what you get when you ask for what you want, huh?
