If anyone knows where to get these, has a copy they want to sell, has a copy they're willing to scan and send over, has a copy they're willing to send me so I can copy, and send back on my dime, please let me know. I desperately want to read these. I'm willing to pay you for your time.
I'm mostly looking for the photographs, the Convention Speech Transcripts, con reports, articles, personal/professional timeline, and the Newspapers/Magazines clippings. The whole thing would fantastic, but I'll take what I can.

The author interviewed Bill, De, and Leonard all on the same day, but I just focused on De's parts.

“Per conversations with most concerned, the problem of too modern hairstyles on male actors in Star Trek regulars as well as both SAG and SEG, has been resolved. Rather than requesting altering of the basic contour favoured by the actor, a simple and easily adjustable change is being made into the sideburns, ie. pointing the bottom of them rather than wearing them square across.
For those doing single jobs on our show, it is easily adjustable via hair growth in a few days, or touching with a makeup pencil, actual shaving unnecessary. Where possible, however, even on such extras, we would prefer the proper job.
This is mandatory for all actors appearing in our show.” –Gene Roddenberry on Star Trek hairstyles.
“Regarding Deforest Kelley’s haircut for the ‘Star Trek’ series, I would prefer that it be the same style that he had in the 'Police Story’ pilot, with the additional specification that the sideburns come to a point. Can you come up with a couple of photos from 'Police Story’ pilot which show Dee’s hair style clearly so his barber will be able to recreate it? Thank you.” –Gene Roddenberry on Dr. McCoy’s hairstyle.

Mod note: I didn’t even notice this until I read the quote. The pointed sideburn is present in almost every single male character from TOS right through to VOY (with a few obvious exception like those with long hair or who are bald and so on). Pointed sideburns are a staple of Star Trek along with a distinct lack of pockets on all clothing (another rigid Star Trek rule). However, neither of these rules applies to Enterprise, most likely due to it being set a century before TOS.

De's Backyard
Kris Smith drew me a picture of De's and Carolyn's backyard from the 90's when Kris was in LA:
Tumblr media
The "paved area with walls" is this part (Kris said the grill/barbecue wasn't there or used anymore, but the parts remained, and the fireplace was there as well.)

This is near the paved area:

Closer the the back of the house but looking across the lawn:

Back of the house.

The back porch. Just to the left of De are two French doors that led to their bedroom. They used to open the doors at night and let the cool air in.

The tangerine tree which I don't know if they traded out for the orange tree or did both or what. But in the 90s they'd give Kris a bunch of oranges every now and then.

In one of the Phone Tag books, Carolyn mentioned to Kris that she and De thought about putting in a pool at one time, but decided against it. There are pictures of them on a diving board together, but Kris said she thought those might be one of their friend's in Long Beach or just a country-club type thing that they used for the shoot.
If you look up the house today (15463 Greenleaf Street), there is a pool there now, and the house is gone, replaced with a mcmansion.

15 July 1964 Los Angeles Times
Tumblr media
De and Carolyn loved animals, and tamed many wild ones to eat out of their hands (squirrels and birds mostly) in their backyard. They had a blue jay living in one of their trees out back and they tamed it so much that it would actually land on their shoulders from time to time. This blue jay began to raise a family. One day, one of the babies fell out of the nest. De rescued it and put it in a birdcage so nothing could get at it next to the house until it matured. The parent blue jays would fly down to the cage and feed it through the bars. De and Carolyn thought that was awesome so they called the LA Times and a photographer came out. The photographer went out into the yard and waited for over an hour, but the bird would not come down even though it was normal feeding time. De went out to sit with the photographer and the bird came right away to feed the baby.
Paraphrased from a volume of Kris Smith's Phone Tag series.
