Floating Eggs In Water
INTRODUCTION
Eggs are known to sink in water. In this experiment, we will be able to let the eggs to float in water. In this simple scientific study, we will be able to know the contributing factors that allow eggs to float in water.
PROBLEM
How to let eggs float in water?
HYPOTHESIS
Since saltwater has the capacity to make things buoyant, it is assumed that kitchen salt will make the eggs float.
MATERIALS NEEDED
One egg
Water
Salt
A Drinking Glass
PROCEDURE
Pour water into the glass until it is about half full.
Stir in lots of salt (about 6 tablespoons).
Carefully pour in plain water until the glass is nearly full (be careful to not disturb or mix the salty water with the plain water).
Gently lower the egg into the water and watch what happens.
RESULTS / ANALYSIS OF DATA
Results show that as you add salt in the drinking glass, eggs will eventually float higher. The hypothesis somehow matched the results. The density of the water enables the egg to float in.
CONCLUSION
It is therefore concluded that salt allows eggs to float in because of its density. It is the same as the principle of the boat that floats in the ocean.
