After breaking with the Roman Catholic Church, Henry VIII set out to destroy the monastic system, thereby acquiring all the wealth and property of the monasteries. The monasteries were the wealthiest institutions in the country before the reformation.

Cnut the great, the king of Denmark and Norway took over the throne of England and married Emma of Normandy who was then made Queen consort of England for a second time and Queen consort of Denmark and Norway. The marriage possibly saved the lives of her sons that she had with the former king, Æthelred the unready.

Fun fact: Charles II pardoned all the people that had contributed to the monarchy’s downfall except for those that had signed his father’s death warrant once he returned to England after the monarchy restoration. Those whose name was on the warrant and didn’t flee the country or beg for forgiveness were sentenced to death. Also, they hung Oliver Cromwell’s already-dead body to humiliate him in death or something....
