𓆩♡𓆪 angel!Wanda Maximoff x demon!reader
It was a simple rule for both species: stay away from the Frays and never let one of Them talk to you. But Wanda caught your eye the moment she'd poked her head curiously through a cloud; she was perfect in every way, beautiful and sweet as the flowers you'd caught her plucking from the grounds.
Demons were notoriously greedy creatures, selfish and relentless... but nothing was as insatiable as one obsessed with another being.
Back at it again with a dark AU so as always, 18+ only to interact please and thank you! This one is heavy on the corruption and innocence kinks with heavy manipulation, some gaslighting and stuff of that sort. Please read all the trigger warnings for each chapter as they'll be a mix of fluff, smut, and the occasional angst.

・❥・1860s!Wanda x apothecarist!reader
New to Paris and deeply unhappy in her marriage, Wanda Maximoff makes a new friend in her family's doctor. The goal was physical and that's exactly what she got- her dear doctor happily indulging in the proposed affair. But when Wanda's unhappiness grows and her freedom is threatened... desperate times call for desperate measures.
This is an 18+ AU series with copious smut and dark themes that will be elaborated on as the chapters publish. So obviously, as with all my work, no minors and please read the warning tags

"Do I look like I’m messing around?" Wanda's voice was low and sultry, each word dripping with authority and promise. She took another step closer, closing the distance between you, her gaze never wavering. "Do I look like I won’t punish you?"
You swallowed hard, your mouth suddenly dry as you struggled to find your voice. "No, Wanda," you managed to whisper, your pulse quickening under her scrutiny.
Her smile widened, a dangerous glint in her eyes. "Good," she purred, reaching out to trail a finger down the center of your chest. Her touch was light, almost teasing, but it sent a shiver of anticipation through your entire body. "Because you’ve been very naughty, and it’s time you learned your lesson."
Before you could respond, Wanda’s fingers curled around the fabric of your shirt, pulling it roughly open, buttons scattering across the floor. Her hands were on your bare chest, her nails grazing your skin as she pushed you back until you felt the cool wood of the wall against your back.
"Stay still," she commanded, her voice brooking no argument. You obeyed, your breath coming in shallow pants as she pressed her body against yours, her warmth seeping into your skin.
Wanda's lips found yours in a bruising kiss, her teeth nipping at your lower lip as she asserted her dominance. Her hands roamed over your chest, nails scraping lightly, leaving a trail of tingling pleasure in their wake. She broke the kiss, her mouth hovering just inches from yours as she whispered, "Do you like that?"
"Yes," you gasped, your hands itching to touch her, to feel more of her, but you held back, knowing she wanted you to wait.
Wanda's eyes sparkled with satisfaction at your compliance. "Good," she repeated, her hands moving lower, deftly undoing the button of your jeans and sliding them down your legs. You stepped out of them, feeling the cool air against your exposed skin.
She stepped back, her eyes raking over your body with a possessive hunger that made your blood boil. "On the bed," she ordered, her voice firm. You moved to the bed, climbing onto it and lying down as she watched, her expression one of predatory delight.
Wanda joined you, crawling onto the bed with a feline grace. She straddled your hips, her hands pressing against your chest as she leaned down, her breath hot against your ear. "I’m going to make you beg," she whispered, her voice a promise and a threat all at once.
Her hands moved to your wrists, pinning them above your head as she ground her hips against your growing erection. The friction was exquisite, sending jolts of pleasure through you, but she kept the pace slow, teasing, driving you to the brink without allowing you release.
"Please," you groaned, your hips bucking up against her in a futile attempt to gain more friction.
Wanda's laughter was a soft, seductive sound. "Not yet," she murmured, her tongue flicking out to trace the shell of your ear. "I want to hear you beg properly."
She continued her slow, torturous movements, her hips rocking against yours with an agonizing rhythm. Your breath came in ragged gasps, your body trembling with the need for release, but she held you on the edge, her eyes dark with satisfaction.
"Please, Wanda," you finally begged, your voice cracking with desperation. "I need you. Please."
Her smile was triumphant as she released your wrists, her hands moving to guide you inside her. The sensation was overwhelming, her tight heat enveloping you completely as she began to move, her pace quickening with each thrust.
"That’s it," she moaned, her nails digging into your shoulders as she rode you with a fierce intensity. "Let go for me."
The pressure built to a crescendo, your body responding to her command as you surrendered to the pleasure. With a final, shuddering cry, you came, your release crashing over you like a tidal wave.
Wanda followed you over the edge, her own climax a symphony of gasps and moans that echoed in your ears. She collapsed against you, her body trembling with the aftershocks of pleasure.
You lay together, tangled in the sheets, your breaths slowly evening out. Wanda's fingers traced lazy patterns on your chest as she looked up at you, a satisfied smile on her lips.
"Have you learned your lesson?" she asked, her voice teasing.
You chuckled, pulling her close. "Yes, Wanda," you replied, kissing her forehead. "I think I might need more lessons in the future."
Her laughter was the sweetest sound as she snuggled against you, both of you drifting off to sleep in the warmth of each other’s embrace.

The evening sky over Westview is a deep indigo, the stars faint glimmers against the dark canvas. Wanda and you have retreated to the intimacy of your warmly lit living room, the flickering flames from the fireplace casting dancing shadows on the walls.
Seated on the plush, velvet sofa, Wanda is beside you, her presence electrifying. The faint scent of lavender and vanilla fills the air, remnants of the candles she had lit earlier. You can feel the tension between you both, a magnetic pull that has been building over the past few days, unspoken but undeniably there.
Her emerald eyes lock onto yours, and a soft smile graces her lips. Wanda’s hand reaches out, her fingers lightly brushing against your arm, sending shivers down your spine. The touch is gentle at first, almost hesitant, but it soon becomes more assertive as she inches closer, the heat from her body mingling with yours.
“Are you okay with this?” she whispers, her voice husky and filled with desire. You nod, heart pounding in anticipation.
Wanda’s hand trails up your arm, over your shoulder, and finally cups your cheek. She leans in, her breath warm against your lips. The kiss starts soft, a tender meeting of mouths, but it quickly deepens. Her lips part, and her tongue teases yours, exploring with an intensity that makes your head spin.
You reach up, tangling your fingers in her hair, pulling her closer. Her body presses against yours, and you can feel every curve, every contour. Your hands roam her back, feeling the smooth fabric of her blouse, the warmth of her skin beneath.
Wanda’s hands move too, deftly unbuttoning your shirt, her fingers grazing your skin, leaving a trail of fire in their wake. The shirt falls open, and she breaks the kiss to gaze at you, her eyes filled with hunger and admiration.
“You’re beautiful,” she murmurs before her lips find your neck, kissing, nibbling, sucking, marking you as hers. You moan softly, the sensation overwhelming, your hands finding their way under her blouse, feeling the heat of her skin.
With a swift motion, you pull her blouse over her head, revealing the delicate lace of her bra. You reach behind her, fingers fumbling for a moment before you unclasp it, letting it fall away to expose her. Wanda’s breath hitches as your hands caress her, your lips finding her collarbone, trailing kisses down to her breasts.
She gasps when you take a nipple into your mouth, your tongue circling the sensitive bud before sucking gently. Her hands are in your hair, pulling you closer, encouraging you. You switch to the other breast, giving it the same attention, her moans music to your ears.
Wanda pushes you back onto the sofa, straddling your lap. Her hips grind against yours, and you can feel the heat between her legs, the friction sending jolts of pleasure through your body. You grasp her hips, guiding her movements, matching her rhythm.
Her hands are everywhere, exploring your chest, your stomach, before finally unbuttoning your pants. You lift your hips, helping her slide them down, along with your underwear. She does the same, and soon, there is nothing between you but the electric air.
Wanda pauses, her eyes meeting yours, filled with love and lust. She leans down, capturing your lips in a searing kiss as she sinks onto you, taking you in completely. The sensation is indescribable, the heat, the tightness, the connection.
You move together, a perfect rhythm, each thrust sending waves of pleasure through both of you. Her nails dig into your shoulders, her moans mingling with yours, the only sounds the crackling of the fire and the symphony of your passion.
Wanda’s pace quickens, her breath becoming ragged. You can feel her tightening around you, her climax approaching. You match her movements, pushing her closer to the edge. With a cry of your name, she shatters, her body convulsing in pleasure. The sight, the sound, the feel of her coming undone pushes you over the edge, and you follow her into bliss.
You collapse together, a tangle of limbs, hearts racing, breaths mingling. Wanda’s head rests on your chest, her fingers drawing lazy circles on your skin.
“I love you,” she whispers, her voice soft and tender.
“I love you too,” you reply, holding her close, never wanting to let go.
The night is yours, filled with love, passion, and the promise of many more enchanted nights to come.

it was an accident when you were in your later teens that stopped you from continuing figure skating. Your nephew joins a hockey team and you’re obligated to drive him to practice. You had nothing but support for him in the beginning, wishing for another to enjoy an ice based sport like you, but after a week you meet the coach. It was friendly banter until you two took it too far.

The gym at the SHIELD facility was bustling with activity, the air thick with the sound of grunts and clanging weights. Yet, in one corner, a quieter, more intense form of training was taking place. Wanda, her focus razor-sharp, was attempting to harness her powers under your watchful guidance.
"Concentrate, Wanda. Visualize your target and nothing else," you instructed, your tone both commanding and encouraging.
With a deep breath, Wanda raised her hands, her fingers twitching slightly as red energy swirled around them. She nodded, acknowledging your advice, and with a sudden thrust, directed the energy towards the dummy target across the room. The burst was well-aimed but more forceful than intended, tearing the target apart.
"Better, much better," you praised, clapping lightly. "You're getting a handle on it."
Wanda flashed a grateful smile, the intensity of the session still visible in her flushed cheeks. "Thanks to you. I never thought I could manage them like this," she gestured to the wisps of energy dissipating into the air.
"It's all you, Wanda. I just guided you a bit," you replied, your tone light, trying to bolster her confidence further.
As you both walked towards the benches lining the edge of the field, Wanda's demeanor shifted slightly, a thoughtful expression crossing her features. "You know, I’ve been wondering," she started hesitantly, "about you… about your story. You've helped me so much, but I realize I don’t know much about you, beyond the training."
The directness of the question took you off guard, not because of the personal nature of the inquiry but because of the implication of how much Wanda valued your relationship. You considered how much to share; the scars from your past were always a sensitive topic. "Well, there's not much to tell that’s not SHIELD files and mission reports," you began, offering her a half-smile. "But I guess, like you, I’ve had my share of struggles with my abilities."
Wanda nodded, sensing the weight behind your words. "It means a lot, you know, having someone who understands. It’s… it’s made a big difference."
The sincerity in her voice warmed you, and without fully realizing it, you found yourself sharing more about your past, the challenges, and the few triumphs. Wanda listened intently, her eyes never leaving yours, a silent support that you hadn't realized you needed.
The gym became a sanctuary of sorts, a place where the complexities of your lives as Avengers could be set aside, if only for a moment, to focus on the shared goal of mastering Wanda’s powers.
In the quiet moments between exercises, conversations veered away from techniques and strategies, delving instead into personal anecdotes and shared experiences. Wanda spoke of her upbringing in Sokovia, the devastation wrought by war, and the guilt she carried for the role she played in her homeland's turmoil. You, in turn, opened up about your own struggles, the isolation that came with your destructive abilities, and the slow journey towards acceptance and control.
With each revelation, the bond between you strengthened, rooted in a mutual understanding of the burdens you both carried. It was a connection that surpasses words, an unspoken camaraderie born from shared pain and shared growth.
Yet, amidst the growing closeness with Wanda, a subtle undercurrent of tension began to simmer beneath the surface of your relationship with Natasha. Though you had hoped that your reassurances and continued dedication to your partnership would alleviate any lingering unease, it seemed that Natasha's doubts only grew with each passing day.
The signs were subtle at first—a missed meal together, a strained smile in the corridors, a slight hesitation in her touch—but they soon escalated into something more palpable, more insidious. It was as if a distance had formed between you, a gulf widening with each passing interaction, until it felt like you were standing on opposite shores, shouting across an unbridgeable divide.
You tried to ignore the growing rift, burying yourself in the distractions of training sessions and missions, but it was impossible to escape the weight of Natasha's silent withdrawal. It gnawed at you, a constant reminder of the fragility of the bonds you had worked so hard to build.
One evening, as you returned to your shared quarters after a particularly grueling training session with Wanda, you found Natasha sitting alone at the small table in the center of the room, her gaze fixed on a mission report spread out before her.
"Hey, Nat," you greeted her softly, the tension in the air almost palpable. "How was your day?"
Natasha looked up, her expression guarded, her usual warmth replaced by a distant reserve. "Fine," she replied curtly, her tone clipped. "Yours?"
You hesitated, sensing the barrier between you growing thicker with each passing moment. "It was… good. Productive," you offered, trying to keep the conversation light.
There was a pregnant pause, the silence stretching between you like a yawning chasm. You could feel Natasha's eyes on you, probing, searching for something you couldn't quite name.
Finally, unable to bear the tension any longer, you spoke up, the words tumbling out in a rush. "Nat, is everything okay? You've been… different lately. Distant."
Natasha's gaze flickered, her mask slipping for a fraction of a second before it snapped back into place. "I'm fine," she replied, her voice brittle. "Just busy, that's all."
But you could see through the facade, could feel the weight of unspoken words hanging heavy in the air. It was clear that whatever was troubling Natasha ran deeper than mere busyness, deeper than she was willing to admit.
Before you could press further, a shrill alarm pierced the silence, signaling an incoming mission briefing. With a shared glance, you both rose from the table, the tension lingering between you like a shadow.
The mission was urgent, demanding the full attention and cooperation. As you gathered in the briefing room, you couldn't help but notice the strained atmosphere, the feeling of unease that pulsed through the air like a living thing.
Natasha, as always, was the picture of professionalism, her focus unwavering as she absorbed the details of the mission. But even her stoic facade couldn't entirely mask the tension that coiled beneath the surface.
As the briefing concluded and the team dispersed to prepare for the mission ahead, you found yourself lingering behind, your gaze drawn inexorably to Natasha's retreating form. There was a longing in your heart, a desperate desire to bridge the gap that had formed between you, but you knew that some wounds ran too deep to heal with mere words.
With a heavy sigh, you turned away, steeling yourself for the challenges that lay ahead. The mission demanded your full attention, your unwavering focus, and as you stepped into the waiting aircraft, you pushed aside thoughts of Natasha and the fractured bond between you, focusing instead on the task at hand. But as the aircraft soared into the night sky, carrying you towards the looming threat that awaited, you couldn't shake the feeling that something had shifted, something irrevocable had changed.
As the aircraft hummed through the sky, each member of the team was wrapped in their own thoughts, preparing for the confrontation. Your mind, however, was split between the mission and the unresolved tension with Natasha. This internal conflict added an extra layer of weight to your already burdened shoulders. Despite your efforts to compartmentalize these concerns, the emotional turmoil subtly eroded your usual sharp focus.
The mission location was a stark, remote island that seemed almost untouched by time. Upon landing, the team quickly mobilized, each member slipping into their role with practiced ease. The sense of unity in purpose was palpable, but so was the underlying strain in personal sense. You found yourself occasionally stealing glances at Natasha, trying to gauge her state of mind, but her expression remained an unreadable mask, her attention fixed on the objective.
The threat was a rogue faction equipped with advanced, experimental technology, posing a significant risk not only to the local area but on a global scale if their plans came to fruition. The strategy was clear: infiltrate the base, neutralize the threat, and secure any intelligence related to their operations.
As the operation unfolded, you found yourself paired with Wanda. Her powers, now more controlled and precise, were crucial in navigating the labyrinthine corridors of the enemy stronghold. Her focus was impeccable, and you couldn't help but feel a surge of pride in how far she had come under your guidance.
Navigating through the shadowed corridors, your communication with Wanda was minimal yet effective, a testament to the mutual understanding and trust that had developed between you. She cleared pathways with her energy, manipulated electronic locks, and provided cover when needed. It was during these moments of cooperative silence that you could see the reflections of your earlier self in her — the raw potential slowly being honed into something formidable.
"You're doing great, Wanda," you whispered after she discreetly disabled a security camera with a flicker of red energy, her control precise enough to leave the surrounding equipment untouched.
"Learning from the best," she responded, her voice low and tinged with gratitude. The brief smile she flashed your way was not just an acknowledgment of your compliment but a recognition of the deeper bond that had formed through the countless hours of training and conversation.
However, despite the satisfaction derived from Wanda's progress, your mind couldn't entirely shake off the discomfort regarding Natasha. During a brief moment of downtime as you waited for the next phase of the mission to commence, you saw Natasha coordinating with other team members, her leadership as assertive and effective as ever. Yet, there was a stiffness in her movements, a forced distance in her interactions that she usually didn't display. It was subtle enough that others might not notice, but to you, it was glaringly apparent.
The mission pressed on, demanding your full attention as you approached the main control room where the rogue faction's leaders were believed to be. The team split into two groups: you and Wanda were tasked with entering the control room and securing the area, while Natasha and others handled the extraction of information and prisoners.
As you and Wanda breached the control room door, a burst of chaotic energy greeted you. Hostiles armed with unconventional weaponry attempted to barricade themselves, but between Wanda's telekinetic abilities and your tactical expertise, you quickly subdued the threat.
Once the area was secured, and as you awaited Natasha's team to join you, Wanda leaned against a console, wiping a bead of sweat from her brow. "Every time I think I’ve seen it all, something new comes up," she commented, her gaze scanning the high-tech equipment around her.
"It never really stops, does it?" you replied, checking your weapon before holstering it. "But you handle it well."
Wanda’s expression softened, her eyes meeting yours with a mixture of respect and something more—a depth of emotion that hadn't been there before. "Thanks to you," she said quietly. "You’ve made me feel like I’m really part of this team, not just an outsider with too much power and nowhere to put it."
Before you could respond, Natasha’s team entered, breaking the moment. Natasha's eyes briefly met yours, a flicker of something undefinable passing between you before she redirected her focus to the task at hand. Her professionalism was impeccable, but the personal connection that once defined your interactions felt strained, almost as if she was purposefully maintaining a barrier she hadn’t before.
The completion of the mission brought a mixed sense of relief and tension. While the team had successfully neutralized the threat and secured valuable intelligence, the dynamics within the group, particularly between you, Natasha, and Wanda, remained subtly altered. The ride back to SHIELD headquarters was quiet, the usual post-mission debriefings and conversations replaced with introspective silence.
Upon returning, the debrief was thorough. Natasha led the session with her usual efficiency, outlining the mission's successes and areas for improvement. However, her interactions with you were perfunctory, lacking the warmth and private smiles that once punctuated even the most serious debriefs.
As the meeting disbanded, Natasha lingered by the conference table, organizing her notes and avoiding unnecessary conversation. You paused by the doorway, watching her for a moment, contemplating whether to bridge the gap with conversation or give her the space it seemed she might need.
Deciding on a middle ground, you approached quietly, stopping a reasonable distance away. "Natasha, if there’s anything we need to talk about…"
She looked up, her face unreadable. "We’ve covered everything mission-related. Good work today," she replied, her voice steady, her eyes briefly meeting yours before shifting away.
The formality stung more than you expected. "I meant about us, Nat," you pushed gently, feeling the rift widening with every guarded word she spoke.
Natasha set her papers down, her posture stiffening slightly. "I think it’s clear we’re both busy, and things are running smoothly. There’s no need to complicate matters," she stated, a hint of finality in her tone.
"But it’s not, is it? Something’s off," you persisted, trying to reach the part of her that might still want to resolve whatever this was between you.
Natasha sighed, a rare sign of her patience waning. "Maybe I just need a little space," she suggested, not unkindly, but with a firmness that suggested this was not up for further discussion.
The conversation ended there, leaving a lingering sense of unease as you both walked out of the room. The space she requested was given, out of respect and perhaps a hope that distance might restore what closeness had begun to erode.

Life at SHIELD had settled into a comfortable rhythm, marked by the security and companionship that Natasha provided. The days were long, filled with rigorous training sessions and debriefings, but the evenings were yours. They were spent either in the quiet of the library, poring over mission reports together, or in the more secluded corners of the SHIELD facility, where you two could share meals and stories away from prying eyes.
Your relationship with Natasha, though still unlabelled, had deepened into something both of you treasured. There was a mutual understanding that what you shared surpassed typical workplace camaraderie; it was intimate, built on a foundation of trust and mutual respect that few could claim to understand. The gentle touches, though always through the barrier of clothing or gloves, the shared glances across a crowded room, the soft laughter in the privacy of quiet corners—all these were manifestations of a bond that was uniquely yours.
One evening, after a particularly simulation exercise, you found yourselves in the small garden outside the base. The area was dimly lit, the stars overhead just bright enough to illuminate her features.
“You’re getting better at controlling your reactions under pressure,” Natasha commented, her voice soft, a slight smile playing on her lips as she watched a night-blooming flower gently sway in the breeze.
“It’s easier when I know you’re there,” you replied, allowing yourself a moment of honesty. “Knowing you have my back changes everything.”
Natasha looked at you, her eyes reflecting a warmth that made your heart flutter in response. “I’ll always have your back,” she affirmed, reaching out to squeeze your arm gently through the fabric of your jacket.
These moments, simple yet profound, had become the highlights of your days. They were reminders that amidst the chaos of life at SHIELD, you had found a sanctuary in each other.
However, the comforting routine you had both come to rely on was about to change. It happened after you returned from a solitary mission, one that had taken you away from the base for several weeks. You had been sent to intercept a potential threat in Eastern Europe, a mission that, while successful, left you feeling the acute absence of Natasha’s presence.
When you returned, you were greeted by the news of new additions to the Avengers' roster—Sam Wilson, Vision, and Wanda Maximoff. Natasha, who had just returned from a harrowing mission of her own in Sokovia, was part of the welcoming committee. You watched from a distance as she interacted with the newcomers, her demeanor professional but warm.
It was Wanda who caught your attention immediately. Natasha introduced her last, her tone taking on a softer edge. “And this is Wanda Maximoff. She’s had a rough time of it but she’s with us now. Her abilities are… unique, and quite potent.”
You observed Wanda, noting the hesitance in her posture, the way her eyes darted around, taking in her surroundings with a wariness that you recognized all too well. It was the look of someone burdened by powers that they hadn’t fully come to terms with, powers that had perhaps caused more harm than good.
Later, Natasha shared more about Wanda’s background with you, her voice low as you both sat in the quiet of your shared quarters. “Her powers, they’re not unlike yours in a way. Destructive, hard to control. She’s struggling with them.”
Something in Wanda’s story resonated with you deeply. The sense of kinship with someone else who understood the weight of having dangerous abilities was deep. It stirred a mix of fascination and apprehension within you.
In the days that followed, you found yourself watching Wanda from afar during training sessions. You observed her attempts to control her powers, the frustration and occasionally the despair that crept into her expression when things didn’t go as planned.
It was during one of these sessions that your paths finally crossed directly. Wanda caught you staring, her gaze locking with yours across the room. There was a flash of something unspoken, a recognition perhaps, that passed between you. She nodded slightly, a gesture of acknowledgment before turning back to her training.
Not long after, Wanda approached Natasha. Though you couldn't hear their conversation, it was clear from their gestures that they were talking about you. Later, Natasha relayed the conversation. "Wanda’s curious about you," she said, her voice neutral. "She feels a connection, I think. She’s asked if you might be willing to help train her, to share your approach to managing your powers."
The request was reasonable, yet it stirred a mix of emotions in you. Helping Wanda could be an opportunity to connect with someone who might truly understand your challenges. However, it also brought a slight twinge of apprehension about how this might affect your relationship with Natasha.
As you mulled over this, Natasha seemed to sense your hesitation. "It’s just training," she reassured you, though her voice lacked its usual conviction. "But it’s your call."
Deciding to help Wanda wasn't just a practical decision about training a fellow team member; it felt like extending a hand to someone who was traversing a path you knew all too well. You nodded slowly, making up your mind. "I'll do it," you said, meeting Natasha’s gaze. "Everyone deserves a chance to understand their power, not fear it."
Natasha’s expression softened, a mixture of relief and something else—perhaps a hint of concern—flitting across her features. "Thank you," she murmured. She knew better than most how much this decision cost you, the memories it dredged up.
This new dynamic began to alter the comfortable routine you had established with Natasha. You couldn’t help but feel drawn to Wanda, compelled by the shared understanding of your respective curses. However, this growing connection did not go unnoticed by Natasha, who watched with a complex look in her eyes that you couldn’t quite read.
You still shared meals and mission briefings, but the unspoken tensions, the silent acknowledgments of the shifting sands between you, began to accumulate. Natasha seemed more withdrawn, her smiles a little too timed, her glances a little too guarded.
One late evening, after a particularly intense training session with Wanda, you found Natasha waiting for you outside the training room. Her posture was casual, but her eyes betrayed a hint of something unresolved.
"You're doing good work with Wanda," she started, her voice even. "She’s improving remarkably."
"Thanks, Nat," you replied, sensing there was more she was holding back. "She’s strong, has a lot of potentials. Reminds me a bit of someone else I know." You tried to lighten the mood with a smile.
Natasha returned the smile, but it didn’t quite reach her eyes. "I’ve noticed you two have been getting along. It’s good… good that she has someone like you to guide her."
Her words hung in the air, weighted with an unspoken emotion you couldn't quite decipher. It was clear that Natasha was trying to maintain her usual supportive demeanor, but something about her tone suggested she felt more conflicted than she let on.
You paused, searching her expression for clues to her thoughts. It was rare for Natasha to show vulnerability, and even now, she was guarded, her professional facade barely cracking. But you knew her well enough to recognize the slight tension in her posture, the way her eyes avoided yours for a fraction longer than usual.
"I want to make sure you’re okay with this," you said gently, addressing the elephant in the room. "With me training Wanda, I mean. I know things have been a bit different lately."
Natasha took a deep breath, her gaze meeting yours with a mixture of resilience and softness. "I am," she finally said. "I really am. It’s just been… a lot. With everything that’s happened—Sokovia, the new recruits—it feels like the ground is shifting under our feet. And maybe I’m just trying to find my footing again."
Her honesty broke through the last barriers of awkwardness between you. "I get that," you acknowledged, stepping a bit closer. "And I’m here, Nat. Whatever changes, that’s not going to."
She nodded, her usual composure regaining its foothold. "I know. And I’m grateful for that. It’s just not easy, seeing you connect with someone else over something that… that I can’t fully understand. But I know it’s important—for both of you."
You felt a pang of guilt for the inadvertent distance your new bond with Wanda might have created between you and Natasha. "Listen, nothing changes the fact that you’re the most important person to me here," you affirmed earnestly. "Helping Wanda doesn’t change what you mean to me."
Natasha smiled, this time a little more genuinely, though the complexity of her emotions still played at the edges of her expression. "I know," she said softly. "And I’m proud of what you’re doing for her. Just don’t forget, you have people who care about you too. Don’t lose yourself in someone else’s problems."
Her advice was heartfelt, stemming from her own experiences of getting too involved in the missions and the lives of others to the detriment of her personal wellbeing. "I won’t," you promised.
