What’s your favorite plot twist you’ve ever written?

...Gotta be the end of Ruler of Everything, in which Dinky realizes that the Eye of Harmony can summon the Elements of Harmony.

Laptop. Always. It just feels so much more convenient.

What’s one of your fics that isn’t as popular, but you hold dear?

Oooh, hm. The Unexpected Adventures of Trixie and Sunset probably qualifies, as do Christopher Eccleston's 'Fugitive of the Judoon' and Nameless Guest, respectively the only fics on Ao3 to feature Time Ram and Fenella Wibbsey.

🛌 What's a trope you haven't written, but want to?

I think it would be fun to do some kind of twist on hanahaki disease (maybe a platonic twist?) but I haven't read enough of them in the first place to really do that.

I mostly have written the tropes I want to write, though! I'm good at tropes. I'll write 'em again too.

🐸 If you incorporated your OTP into a Disney movie plot, which would it be?

Er... Romana as Beauty turning up in the Beast's weird TARDIS? I haven't actually seen that many Disney movies.

🙌 What's a line or paragraph of yours that you're proud of?

The opening of my Seven/River fic, ruin hath taught me thus to ruminate, which sums up for me the unique appeal of Seven/River:

It was (the Doctor reflected) perhaps somewhat excessively typical of him, to be carrying on a secret affair concealed, not from a jealous spouse or a disapproving society, but, apparently, from himself.

🥘 What WIP are you most excited about?

My only W officially IP right now is the Ace longfic, which I am excited about. But I have a fun Doctor Who/Aubreyad crossover which is only a headfic right now, but which if I ever do write down will be awesome too. But headfics don't always make it to paper; sometimes the appeal is in the thinking about it.

🙌 What's a line or paragraph of yours that you're proud of?

ok this one I can answer again I guess! I loved giving Katrina Lyons (Welcome to Our Village, Please Invade Carefully) the line “I bet Cassius never made a mess of the cricket pavilion trying to screen-print anti-Caesar slogans on Brutus’ old toga, without knowing how to screen-print.” It made sense in context, that was what was so fun.

💻 What do you write your stories on? Laptop, phone, paper, etc.

I often start on my phone, then usually finish on my laptop. I almost always post from my laptop as otherwise the formatting is too much of a pain.

🍎 What's something you learned while researching for a fic?

*waves hand exhaustedly at the recent attempts at Age of Sail fic*

I don't know if that counts as research, though, as most of it I just learned from reading Patrick O'Brian anyway. I will maybe eventually learn more about how ships work but I'm in fact currently reading a book about the Athenian navy, which is interesting but not relevant. (Rowing tactics, completely different.)

I looked up the history of Lessons and Carols services for the titular Lessons and Carols. That was interesting. Oh, and Tudor-era baking for Fit for a King, very fun.

🦗 Do you write in sequence or jump around?

I mostly write in sequence. When I jump around, it's usually in something that's never going to be a finished whole, such as scenes from an AU. Which is funny because I almost never write essays in sequence, but with a fic I usually don't know what's meant to happen until I've written it, at least a draft of it. I edit out of sequence.

🌷 What's one of your fics that isn't as popular, but you hold dear?

Hm. That's a tough one; popularity is so relative; a niche fic that gets ten kudos feels popular to me, you know? But I will say I did hope Tea Break would get more traction. Not that I think it's particularly outstanding in itself, but I think Seven and Clara is a brilliant combination and I hoped it would convince someone else to write them.

Oh, and Never Too Late, which is set on the alternate Gallifrey from Reborn and features the Romana and Doctor from that universe. So I understand why it's niche, but I really love it and wish more people had the context for it. I don't think you actually need that much context tbh. Moki says it works as a Doctor/Romana AU without further Gallifrey knowledge.

🎭What genre of writing comes easiest to you?

Honestly? Comedy. I know it's supposed to be hard and I'm not saying I'm always good at it, but I can almost always sit down and confidently write something that's at least meant to be funny. And I think it's funny. And so I have fun. Whereas it can be frustrating to try to write something that's meant to be sad or moving or exciting and just feel "this is just silly, no one will be moved by this." Although it's fun when it works.

👄Your OTP are having their first kiss. What song do you imagine is playing?

I do have a Doctor/Romana playlist and I think my favorite song from it for these purposes is "You're the Top" (Anita O'Day). Mostly because of the line "You're the smile / on the Mona Lisa" which I imagine confuses and irritates Romana. She didn't like the Mona Lisa very much.

💖Which of your fics is your pride and joy?

My #1 fic of mine ever is to all our nights and days to come, the Seven/Romana Time War AU. It's the one fic that I don't think anyone else could've or would've written, and a ridiculous number of people who don't normally even do Seven/Romana seem to have read and enjoyed it. And like any writer I enjoy being told that I have made readers sad.

The description of Donna and Rose releasing the metacrisis from Shirley's perspective, in Easy as Breathing:

She can smell it: it smells burnt, like space and winter. Clean, like a freshly sharpened pencil and a new lab notebook. Like blood, and like the still-wet butterfly, crawling from its chrysalis, that she’d held in primary school.

I was the one who wrote the achilles/agamemnon 100k slowburn enemies to lovers rpf and put it on the group chat but now patroclus is calling me 'agachilles boy' and laughing about it and asking if I can proofread his mock bardic epic where all his dogs are heroes and killing people, so I fear I've made a mistake. I don't wanna @ anyone because I understand how fast things seem to move in today's landscape of streaming shows dropping entire seasons in one day, and networks pumping out new series constantly to try to attract more subscribers with no intent to actually maintain those shows over time but I just saw someone self-deprecatingly lament that they are still thinking about a show that ended almost a year ago, making fan art and playlists for it, and I want to be very clear:

you can still create fanworks when it comes to old media!! PLEASE do!! there are always going to be new fans who will appreciate it, and veteran fans who are dying for new content and new perspectives. also, less than a year is NOTHING. the original Star Trek series was on TV six decades ago and there are still people losing their minds over it, writing stories and reblogging gifsets daily, and that's only one example.

a fandom lasts as long as there are people who love a thing, even if it's only a handful of people. love what you love and write and draw and make gifs and playlists about it!
