thank you SO MUCH for posting the prompts so early! some Whump events post theirs, like, TWO DAYS before the event starts, which allows for ZERO planning. since the 2024 prompts for this were posted so early, i've been able to pre-plan and write a ton of fics for June since the start of May! so thank you!!

You are so welcome!! I am a very busy person and know how much I value having time to plan and prepare ANYTHING, especially something I really want to do! So yeah, some people might not think it’s in the spirit to post so early, but having the power to give others what I would have liked to have is the end game.

hello! nice to meet you! it’s always lovely to hear from other people trying to start in the whump community.

honestly, i just kind of started posting my work. i gave my ocs tags, and released them into the wild. idk if you write for fandoms, ocs, or a mixture of both, but there’s always going to be an audience who’ll want to read your writing.

all whump is going to be similar or related somehow, but everyone writes slightly differently so you don’t need to worry about your work not being original, im sure it is. i think the most important thing about posting whump writing online is just making sure you’ve tagged properly, since we write about a lot of stuff that’s potentially triggering. past that, you just need the courage to go for it! i spend most of my time scrolling the whump tag, so im bound to come across writing by all sorts of people. if you posted your work id definitely see it (that being said, if you wanted to tag me when you post, id definitely love to see it).

im pretty sure the next upcoming whump events are the april ones, like whumpril? im planning on participating and ive got the first few days queued, so that might be a good time to get started? it’s pretty close tho so idk. that’s for you to decide.

June of Doom 2023: Day 30

Word Count: 584

Warnings: Post-traumatic stress disorder, past buried alive, captivity, claustrophobia, panic attacks, brief mention of post-partum depression

I know that I dropped the ball with all of the other prompts, but when I saw what Day 30 it, it fit so perfectly with what I had in mind for this little snippet that I came up with after watching the Season 16 finale of Murdoch Mysteries.

June of Doom 2023 in a bloody poem

Sorry, it's kind of dorky, but I really enjoyed writing it :-)

So many whumpees have to suffer through our pen,

we make them hurt and will do so again and again.

We stab them and burn them in glee,

let them endure. Hardly set them free.

So cruel, so mean. Whumper tortures and lies.

Simultaneously brings us the whumperflies.

We hunt them merciless or let them drown in the sea.

The own skin is tingling and the heart jumps happily.

Whumpee is broken and bloody, beaten or in a cage.

Can't help myself, when they need to resuscitate.

In the real world, can't stand gore, vomit and spit.

But here, I'm intrigued and can't get enough of it.

Out there, all of this would be horrible and would go much too far.

But please, let them chock a bit longer, only than give them cpr.

The best whumpee is dirty, desperate and in agony.

But let's be nice, let them suffocate alone or in company.

We knife and chock them, let them dehydrate.

Sometimes they're rescued, sometimes it's to late.

When whumpees are chained, alone in the basement weeping and crying.

When they are slurring exhausted, those whumperflies are definitely flying.

30 days of endurance, caretaking and pain are summoning,

More blood, torture and hurt, will hopefully soon be coming.

Next time maybe we'll punch more, care more and will be cutting more slow.

We'll make them hurt again for sure, but unfortunately June of Doom is over for now.

Whumpee shivers, sweat dripping down their brow. They look down at their hands, which were shaking and trembling just like the rest of them. They bury their hands into the pockets of their hoodie, trying to hide them from Caretaker’s view. 

Even then, Caretaker manages to see past Whumpee’s facade. 

“Whumpee…” Caretaker starts gently, as if speaking too harshly would make Whumpee faint. “Are you alright? You’re pale.”

Whumpee feels their stomach lurch, “I think I’m going to be sick,” they mumble, quickly bringing up their hand to cover their mouth.

Caretaker curses, shooting up, and running to grab a garbage can. He quickly returns, handing it to Whumpee, who immediately throws up into it. Whumpee coughs, holding back a whimper. Caretaker places the back of his hand on Whumpee’s forehead, then their cheeks.

“You’re burning up,” mumbles Caretaker. Then, more harshly, “Take off you’re shirt.”

Whumpee sputters, “What?”

“You need to cool down.”

They wouldn’t be able to get out of this one. Whumpee sighs, before peeling off their hoodie, wincing as it brushes over their side. Caretaker looks at them, at the blood on their white t-shirt, and back at Whumpee. 

“Whumpee,” Caretaker nearly growls, “What happened?”

“I don’t wanna talk about it,” Whumpee whispers, making Caretaker sigh.

“Fine,” hissed Caretaker, pulling off Whumpee’s shirt to look at the wound. “Stay here.”

Whumpee’s head was so fuzzy by the time Caretaker had returned, they didn’t even know he left. Before they knew it, Caretaker had cleaned and bandaged Whumpee’s wound, as well as giving them water and painkillers. Caretaker ushered them to bed, and sat beside them, playing with their hair, until they were asleep.

“Don’t move!” growled Character, “I’ll be back!”

Whumpee nodded, eyes wide. There had been a flood. It started slowly at first. He had heard news of lower areas of the country being flooded, but it was supposed to go away within the year. Then came reports of houses in the valley being flooded. Then, his basement had flooded, his garage, the main floor of his house. 

Him and his friend, Character, had left the area, got to higher ground. They traveled around for a year, but still, the water level was predicted to go down. And, yeah, of course he had heard of people being trapped on hills or stranded on the rooves of buildings, but he never thought it would be him. He never thought Character would leave him.

Character and Whumpee had gotten stuck on the roof of a house when they went to lower ground, which was a risky move on their part. Character had seen a hill on the other side, higher than the one they were on. They had been jumping from roof-to-roof and decided to stop for the night. The water rose slower these days, so they thought they’d be okay. When they awoke, it was just barely creeping onto the roof, but the gap between the houses had gotten too big, and they weren’t able to travel anymore. They sat around for a while, trying to find a solution, when a small scouting boat had appeared.

Whumpee had watched as Character got on the boat – that could only hold one more person – and left, promising they would be back for him. 

Whumpee looked down at his feet, the water barely brushing the tips of his shoes, now. He waited for Character. For three days. By then he had given up. Even at the highest point of the house, the water nearly reached his knees. And Whumpee stood there, cold and shivering, for six more hours, before he wasn’t able to stand anymore. His legs had gone numb, and with night approaching, he would die either way. 

He made up his mind. He kissed his pendant, a gift from Character, and, with it still clutched in his hand, fell into the freezing cold water, and let his mind go blank.

June 30: Buried alive | Failed escape | Denial • Masterlist •

Warnings: Drugging, open ending.

Leader's weary eyes fluttered open, their surroundings too bright against their tired eyes, claustrophobic lair that had become their prison. They had been held captive by Whumper for what felt like an eternity. Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into a blur of pain and torment as they were interrogated for something— something they couldn't remember.

Whumper took delight in their suffering, injecting something regularly that left Leader dizzy and weak. Whumper's taunts blurred into each other, a noise howling through their ears, distant.

But they tried to stay alert, focused on finding a way out. When Whumper left the door open, Leader's binds too loose to keep them there, they couldn't believe.

Leader's weakened body trembled as they gathered every bit of strength to make their move.

With each unsteady step, Leader limped through the labyrinthine corridors of the lair, desperation fueling their determination. But their vision blurred, their legs threatening to give beneath them. The substance coursing through their veins fought against their escape.

As Leader reached the exit, their trembling hand reached for the door, their fingers grazing the cold metal. But their body collapsed, Whumper's boots coming into their view.

Whumper tilted Leader's face with their feet, a chilling smile stretched across their face, smiling in their victory. "You thought you could escape me? How amusing," they taunted, taking pleasure in the torment they had inflicted upon Leader.

"What will I do with you?" They mused out loud, an idea forming.

The team started to get phone calls.

They knew who it was. They knew it was probably a trap, too, but they didn't have better lead. Running to the places Whumper wanted, they were on edge, their patience and likely Leader's time running out.

"This is the last place to check. Happy digging."

The phone closed.

In the big farmland, they didn't leave a rock untouched.

Finally, Right Hand's shovel hit planks, breaking them as they reached Leader's unmoving body, hands on the pulse as they laid Leader to the ground.
