HEY!!! congrats on 300, i’m going to be applying with suna and i’m outgoing and flexible
thank you veery much<3 you're so hired!!
The job description
Suna is your coworker and you're closing up the cafe together, for the now hiring! event
word count; 344 – gn!reader
Tumblr media
10 minutes before closing time, your head was just barely peeking out into the café. Suna’s chest was lightly pressed against your back as he did the same. There was one last customer who hadn’t left yet, and both of you were refusing to confront him. You pushed back, making Suna step away and hold his hands up in surrender. “I did it last time,” he said like it was obvious.
“But I’m so sweet and cute and you love me,” you said with exaggerated cuteness, patting the side of his bicep. “Go get them, guard dog.”
“Love is a strong word. I’d use tolerate.” Suna rolled his eyes and picked up the soaked washcloth from the sink, pointing it at you. “What do I get?”
“I’ll tell the boss you did your job?” you suggested sarcastically, dropping the cute act the second he seemed to be giving in.
He brushed past you. “This was not specified in the job description.”
Instead of continuing with the closing routine, you stuck your head back out the entrance to watch as Suna started cleaning some tables and glancing at the lingering customer to see if he would take the hint. He did not. You could see how Suna took a deep breath and covered your mouth to muffle the laughter as he looked back at you with indignation. Of course, he knew you would be watching this torture.
Finally, he turned to the customer. “Excuse me, sir.” The old man looked up, seemingly a bit grumpy but not the worst one you’ve had. “Just wanted to let you know that we are closing up in-” he tapped the screen on the customer’s phone which lay on the table, checking the time. “7 minutes.”
When he came back over, you had retrieved the mop and filled a bucket of soap water to clean the floors, the part of closing that you knew Suna hated doing.
You gave him a smile and he nodded in appreciation, childishly pushing your shoulder as he got on with the other tasks.

Applying with kenma, i am outgoing & driven🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
amazing, you're hired for the abundance of cute emojis<3
Boss battle
Kenma is your coworker and saves you from a rude customer, for the now hiring! event
word count; 417 – f!reader
Tumblr media
“You’re making me pay double?”
“No, sir. You just pulled the card away too quickly,” you tried to explain calmly, but there was a waver in your voice that left you feeling very exposed.
“This is outrageous, does your boss know you scam people for their money?”
Your eyes teared up, if not from taking that personally, it was from how he was practically spitting the words in your face without any regard for your feelings. “I’m sorry, this is a misunderstanding-”
Suddenly, a hand was placed on the counter in front of you, the thin arm making a symbolic wall between you and the customer. You finally caught your breath, looking to the side where Kenma was staring down the customer with steel eyes.
“You’re asking us to make a coffee you haven’t paid for?” A mild chill went down your back from the softness of Kenma’s voice.
“I tapped my card and it beeped, so you already took my money.”
“Did it beep while you held it there?” Kenma asked, and his calmness only seemed to rile the man up more.
“She’s trying to charge my card twice!” the troublesome customer yelled senselessly. You turned away, taking the moment of distraction to close your eyes and fight back the tears.
Kenma sighed deeply. The customer seemed to try to establish dominance with his bigger build by puffing his chest out, but Kenma wasn’t budging from his position.
“Did you consider checking your bank account?” The interaction had caught on to other customers, and almost everyone was staring at this point. Most of them felt sorry for you baristas.
“I know I paid, so give me my coffee.” Kenma stayed silent, and you could just imagine the look of dislike on his expressive face. He took half a step back, looked over the order screen that was still telling him the customer needed to pay and then turned to you.
His cat-like eyes met yours and you gulped, sending him a brave smile.
“Finish that other order for me,” he requested softly, pointing to where he had previously stood making a coffee for a customer who actually paid. “I can handle this.”
You nodded, whispering a short “thank you” before doing as he said. Kenma hummed in confirmation before turning back to the customer with bored eyes.
“We cannot give you a coffee you haven’t paid for, I thought that was obvious,” he started off with, and you already knew he would win this boss battle.

Ahhh!!! Congrats on your 300 follower milestone! This seems super fun.
I’m applying with Matsukawa. I am outgoing and extremely flexible 🥺
thank you lovely anonymous<3 we love extremely flexible workers, you're hired!!
Hey now
Matsukawa is your coworker and you're closing up the café together, for the now hiring! event
word count; 324 – gn!reader
Tumblr media
The second you locked up the entrance to the cafe, you felt the looming presence of your coworker behind you. You turned around looking deadly serious before raising your fist.
“Rock, paper, scissors, shoot!” you both chanted, and you raised your arms triumphantly when you kept the rock and Matsukawa chose scissors.
“Why would you do rock three days in a row?” he groaned, annoyed with your tactic as he went to get the mop. The loser mops the floors.
“Evidently, I am the natural alpha of this establishment,” you joked, going over to the counter to plug your phone into the AUX and put on whatever music you enjoyed lately.
He just scoffed, looking away so you wouldn’t see the small smile on his face as he went to fill up the bucket with soap water while you got started on cleaning the coffee machines and otherwise preparing the workstation. “I need to start asking for shifts without you.”
You were humming to the music when you felt a wet hand smear some soap water on the back of your neck, hum turning into a squeal while he ran away. Your hair stuck to your neck and some drops ran underneath your uniform and down your back. “Mattsun, you bitch!” you scolded, getting a paper towel to dry it off as best as you could. Matsukawa snickered at your reaction before actually getting to work. Time to put up all the chairs and get the floor cleaned.
Despite the bickering, you and Matsukawa work well together when you get into it, moving on automatically to any open tasks when you finish the last one. You were about to start the last step of checking the register when the song on the speaker switched and played a very recognizable intro. The two of you made eye contact across the counter as a song from the classic Shrek soundtrack started playing.
“Some-BODY ONCE TOLD ME!”

Thinking about Ushijima and Tendou dating friends and going on double dates.
Two chubby girls coming up to them after a match and Tendou is pretty used to fans just wanting to talk to the captain and ignoring him entirely. He is looking at nothing in particular, sure the girls won’t even acknowledge him at all because they just think the ace is hot, but then is so confused and surprised when one of them nervously starts talking to HIM instead and asks if she can buy him a victory soda or something. And while Ushijima couldn’t care less about your body type and thinks the girl talking to him is beautiful simply because she is, Tendou has a preference for a chubby figure. He is ecstatic in the locker room, smoothing out his shirt after the shower and pestering Ushiwaka to hurry up so they can go get that soda.

My friend, the smiley
word count; 914 – gn!reader, @makkir0ll had this idea for a manager!reader n it was too good
Tumblr media
“That’s great, Kageyama!” the photographer yelled out, and you clutched your clipboard to your chest with a proud smile. Kageyama had been hired for a skincare commercial, and you were the lucky manager tasked with joining him to make sure everything ran smoothly.
They had him wearing a pastel-coloured cotton shirt, which brightened his complexion considerably as he stared casually at the camera or wherever he was instructed to look. The photographer eventually put the camera down to look over this batch of photos, and a stylist waved Kageyama over for an outfit change. This time it was a white t-shirt that stopped at a very flattering point for his bicep. You tried not to eye him too much as he just changed tops right there in the middle of the room, so used to changing volleyball uniform in front of whoever stood close by anyway.
Then he walked up to you, and you quickly smoothed out any wrinkles until you realised you were also stroking a bit too obviously over his muscles, so you quickly pulled your hand back. “Sounds like you’re doing great,” you encouraged him, holding up his water bottle.
He thanked you and took a sip before answering. “I guess I’m great at looking places,” he said, and despite the lack of hint in his voice, you knew him well enough to understand that it was a joke and chuckled under your breath in response.
“I suppose being ranked one of the most handsome volleyball players from Japan means something,” you said, wiggling your eyebrows, which made him blush slightly and look away from you.
“Let’s get a round of smiling photos!” the director announced, and Kageyama’s gaze snapped back to you, both of you staring at the other with wide eyes.
“I’m not great at that!” he whisper-yelled just as the stylist came over to pull him back to the shoot and fix his hair. Kageyama glanced at you nervously over his shoulder before eventually settling on the little wooden chair in front of the pastel pink sheet.
“You can do this,” you mouthed and signed with two thumbs up. He seemed to gulp before looking at the camera, and a certain wave of dread fell over you at the smile he came up with. Not great.
The director made a weird sound, obviously hesitant and trying to be polite. “Maybe a… more relaxed… smile?” she suggested.
Kageyama nodded sharply and sighed, before going right back to that same smile, except it was a bit more crooked as he tried to relax at the same time. You put a hand to your forehead, shaking your head for a moment before walking up behind the photographer. The director didn’t seem pleased to have you there, so you bowed politely and cleared your throat.
“May I talk to him for a second?” you asked. When she nodded you spared no time in walking over to your player, standing close enough that the others in the room might not hear.
“Is it that bad?” he asked, and you almost melted from those blue eyes. He looked so innocent sometimes.
“No! Just… you know how it was with the Olympic posters,” you said first, waiting for him to hum in confirmation. “Why don’t you think of something that usually makes you smile? Like playing with Hinata?” you suggested, and he so desperately wanted to give you good results that he just agreed to that right away.
“I can try that,” he told you. You walked back to your place and watched with hopeful eyes as Kageyama seemed to be thinking of something. Then a small smile fell on his lips that slowly grew wider, and suddenly he was looking at the camera with sharp eyes and a devilish grin. You pursed your lips, thinking not quite like that, Tobio.
Before you got to say anything, the photographer made a comment of “no teeth,” so Kageyama listened and only closed his lips without adjusting anything else. That made his cheeks look laughably strained.
Even though the non-smiling pictures came out great and not being able to smile like they wanted was in no way breaking the contract, you wanted him to build a good reputation for commercials.
If only you could think of a good way to make him smile normally. You’d seen it before, the way he smiled when Ushijima really slammed the ball and thanked him for a perfect set, or the way he smiled when you two had time to talk about your lives outside of work.
You hurriedly whispered his name, making some stylists who stood around chuckle at you, but when you finally caught his eye, you could see his shoulders visibly relax. With an uncertain smile, you started doing the little dance you had told him you learned in an amateur class last week. He had asked you to show him some time, to which you had run away with flushed cheeks and a poor excuse of going back to work.
He had no clue what you were doing, but looking at you make such a fool of yourself for him while he clearly heard someone laugh at you, made him smile so genuinely, and the camera was suddenly clicking consecutively. The director closed her eyes for a moment, praying some of the pictures came out good and telling Kageyama to at least remember to hold up the product.
A lovesick puppy smile also sells products, I suppose.

Hello! I wanted to request for the 300 followers event, congrats!!! Applying with Tendo, I am organised and a problem solver (sorry, it's the same as the example, but the idea was tempting 😅).
thank you!!! it's in the example for a reason, what a great choice! you are very much hired<3
Time to spare
Tendo is a regular and finally asks you out, for the now hiring! event
word count; 792 – f!reader
Tumblr media
You always noticed the tall man with red hair who seemed to never have time to spare but still took the time to thank you for your amazing coffee before rushing off.
Tendo came in a couple of times a week, always during rush hour, and you assumed he was on his way to work. Unfortunately, rush hours in the café were rough, so you never had the time to ask him about his job, or anything else for that matter, without it seeming weird. He was probably just a kind man who wanted coffee. But still, your eyes would scan the crowd curiously at the same time every day, wondering if you would get to see him.
One day he was determined to spend time getting to know you because it was finally a bank holiday in France and the old ladies he charmed into buying double rounds of chocolate a week ago said he deserved a day off. He took their advice, leaving the sign on closed as he exited in his nicest shirt. Ushijima said he looked sumptuous, which he’s not quite sure what means, but it sounded really good and came along with a thumbs-up emoji.
Should I get her flowers? No, that’s too much… but if she agrees on a date, I will definitely get her flowers.
There was a certain spring in his step as he made his way to the café. Tendo couldn’t wait to finally have the time to talk to you, and he wasn’t even looking inside as his eyes zeroed in on the door handle and he grabbed it, pulling…
It’s a bank holiday… so the café was closed too.
He sighed and rubbed a hand over his face when he noticed the café was completely dark, which he should have noticed much earlier. He already started considering what other day he could take off when he had so many orders, but then there was a sound of footsteps behind him that made him turn around.
“Hi,” you said, a bit awkward as Tendo was currently just blinking at you in surprise. There was a set of keys in your hand, clinking as you put your arm down after a small wave.
“It’s not closed?” he asked, pointing at the closed door that he was still blocking without thinking about it.
He had a box of six delicious chocolates in his hand, pointer finger nervously rubbing the edge which made the glue loosen slightly just on the corner. Inspired by some Valentine’s Day traditions where he came from, he thought it might be a way to impress, even though that date was far away.
“We open a bit later because of the bank holiday,” you explained sweetly, stepping closer and hoping he might move away from the door. “If you have time to wait, I can still make you your usual.”
“I have all the time in the world today,” he said, so happy to see a warm blush beside your eyes that were crinkled from your smile.
“Great! A Vienna Coffee, right?”
And as Tendo followed you inside, he glanced down at the box in his hands but decided he shouldn’t ask before getting his coffee, so that you wouldn’t feel uncomfortable if you rejected him. So he stuck around and tried not to be in the way as you readied the café for opening, chatting away about things like his unusual coffee order that you had to look up the first time to make sure you did it properly.
You finally put his coffee down on the counter with his name on it followed by two small hearts. After talking to you, Tendo felt no less sure about wanting to ask you out, so he held out the box in exchange for grabbing the coffee.
“I made them, wondered if you might join me on a date sometime?” he asked, straight forward as ever. His eyes were wide as he looked at you, taking in your reaction and somewhat preparing himself for the possibility that you would say no.
“You made them?!” you squealed, covering your mouth to not alert your coworker who had come in and handled another order while you talked to Tendo. You opened the box, gasping again at how good they looked. “I can’t eat at work so I’ll save them, but that’s so sweet of you,” you cooed, looking up at him with a pout. He smiled that cute smile of his, leaning forward with his hands on his hips.
“So what do you say?” he asked, wondering if you were avoiding the dating part.
“About a date? Definitely yes. Could you show me how to make chocolates like this?”
“That would be my pleasure.”

Application deadline: end of day!
Thank you for all your lovely requests! I’m not taking more applications after today, so you have a few more hours to send in a request if you wish to do so<3
now hiring! (300 followers event)
Tumblr media
To thank you all for this follower milestone, I want to write shorter fics where the reader works in a café and you can choose the love interest + what inspires the plot!!
1. Pick a character (preferably one per request)
2. Pick your first qualification (setting)
3. Pick a second qualification (plot point) depending on your first choice
As an example: "Applying with Bokuto, I am outgoing and flexible" will get you a drabble about closing up the café with your coworker Bokuto.
Another example: “Applying with Tendo, I am organised and a problem solver” will get you a drabble where Tendo is a regular at the cafe and finally finds a way to or the courage to ask you out.
Please limit adding extra details, as it will be easier for me to complete more requests if I have some creative freedom. Use the "make a wish!" button on my profile to let me know what you'd like to see me write.
For the option where you’re coworkers (outgoing), you can also ask for it to be suggestive (add * at the end). The baseline will still be fluffy, but making it suggestive means that the reader and the character already know the other party is interested and I might include some touching/smooching.
A huge thanks to the gamemaster herself @cottonlemonade who inspired this and helped me mould the ideas into reality<3
(if you have previously sent me other requests, those are still in my drafts, so do not worry. I just want to celebrate this milestone before I get back to those!)

Heyo 🌟 congratulations on your milestone! 🐳 done!
I am hereby applying with Osamu, I am organised and driven 🫡
heya!! thank you 🍓 much! you are hired for our shared love of a café setting<3
Cookies and cream
Osamu is a customer and orders something just to talk to you, for the now hiring! event
word count; 884 – f!reader
Tumblr media
A new café recently opened across the street, and Osamu shamelessly spent at least 15 minutes of each day standing close to the windows of Onigiri Miya to observe. You had a consistent flow of customers and seemed to have more busy hours than he had. He was very interested in your menu, the design of the café, the workers… maybe just one worker in particular, the one who smiled so nicely that he imagined you were the reason so many people kept coming back to order from you. He hadn’t heard your voice yet, but he definitely imagined it, telling your customers to never go buy from Onigiri Miya and hypnotising them with your charm.
Atsumu could not understand why his brother had developed such an obsession with a simple café when his own business was showing better results every month and your businesses were so different that it didn’t have to be a competition. Competitiveness was nothing new, but this wasn’t the first time a new shop of any sort opened close by. It’s Japan; there were several places to order food or coffee on every street.
He couldn’t understand it until he visited to see what it was all about, and he caught his brother only staring over there while you were visible at the register or out in the café clearing tables. Is he witnessing a one-sided enemies to lovers or is his brother just in denial of his attraction to you?
“So ya got the hots for the café owner, huh?” he teased, bumping his elbow into Osamu as he came to stand beside him. Osamu frowned.
“How do ya know she’s the owner?” he asked, looking back over to where you held a tray of empty cups while chatting with two students who had been there for a few hours.
“Went there to scope the competition before I came here,“ he answered proudly. “Had a bangin’ iced coffee. Cookies and cream and I swear she put extra cookie crumbles-” Part of Osamu was grateful that his brother got invested in his battles, but the bigger part was annoyed that he had yet to taste anything you made.
Atsumu just needed to get Osamu a little jealous and he’d walk right into his trap.
Tumblr media
On his break, while the new hire did their first cover alone, Osamu had no choice but to stroll across the street and confidently enter your café. The comforting smell immediately hit him, and it was only enhanced by the warmth of the lighting and the nice temperature. His eyes scanned over the café tables while he slowly made his way towards the register. And as he got there, he finally looked forward. Any threatening introduction he might have prepared was ruined when you smiled at him.
You leaned your hands on the counter on each side of the register, leaning closer to him curiously. “Hey, weren’t you blonde earlier?”
You were mostly teasing because even though you thought he looked very similar, you knew they must be two different people. This one piqued your attention differently, and the one that had been staring at you through the window was not blonde.
“Don’t insult me, that was my brother. I’m Miya Osamu,” he introduced himself, holding out a hand for a handshake. “I own Onigiri Miya across the street.”
Maybe it was the way his arms bulged under his t-shirt. Or the way his brown hair complemented his eyes and made them warmer like you should have picked that shade of brown for the accent wall instead. Or the way he had slight dips into the fat of his stomach where the apron was tied. He was just so insanely attractive to you.
“It’s nice to finally meet you, I’ve been dying to try your food,” you said, smiling and shaking his hand while you told him your name. “Did you want to order something?”
Osamu had intended on being quite cold towards you, show you who’s boss…
“My brother recommended something with cookies and cream?” he instead requested politely with a little smile, hoping you might put even more cookie crumbs on his.
“I’m glad it left a good impression.”
Tumblr media
He knew he should get back to put out the fires his new hire might have caused, so after sticking around and talking to (flirting with) you for a while, he sighed and pushed his hip off the counter he leaned against.
“Why don’t you come over some time, I’ll make sure you get our best,” he said, picking a slightly bent business card out of the pocket of his apron and handing it to you. He might have scribbled his personal number on the back ahead of time.
His stomach did flips as he watched your cheeks turn rosy when you took the piece of paper. “Doesn’t every customer get your best?”
“The special ones get a little extra love,” he answered, pulse quickening at his own forwardness. Now that he felt more comfortable, his smile was even wider and it felt like your legs turned to jelly.
“I’ll see if I can bless you with my time,” you joked, a soft chuckle escaping with it because obviously, you would be hitting him up on that offer.
“And I’ll look forward to it.”

kageyama is the type of person who falls in love and starts practicing casual intimacy with you, but he never establishes the fact that the two of you are in a relationship. he just assumes that you two are, and he figures that if you’re receptive to his actions, then obviously you must also agree that you two are dating. it’s why he’s so confused on your confusion when he’s texting you, and in the middle of casual conversation, he just asks “oh by the way, did you eat today?” it makes you pause because that was not what the conversation was about at all. lately, kageyama doesn’t treat you like a friend with benefits. when you got locked out of your second floor apartment, he’s the one you called to break into it; no situationship who doesn’t care about you would commit breaking and entering in broad daylight, especially since you definitely weren’t any help. and he didn’t even get mad at you when after he did manage to break in, you remembered you left your key in your back pocket. instead, he was more upset over the fact that you don’t lock your windows (he proceeds to lock them for you; every time he comes over, he checks to make sure they stay locked for your safety. if he can scale the building, some desperate creep can too). he blows on your food to cool it down when you get too excited to eat. he keeps your preferred shampoo and conditioner in a value size bottle inside of his shower for when you spend the night. add all of this along with his random question of did you eat today, it’s no wonder why you reply back “kageyama, what are we?”
three dots appear and a second later,
“we’re dating.”
well, you might as well be. the next time you see him in person, you tell him that he should at least ask about these things first. so he does formally ask you to be his girlfriend, and his first request as your official boyfriend is for you to change his contact name to tobio, not kageyama. the heart you add after it makes the cutest blush appear on your boyfriend’s cheeks.

Vanilla latte
Kageyama is a customer and buys something just to talk to you, for the now hiring! event
word count; 742 – gn!reader
Tumblr media
Kageyama would never understand how Hinata got so into coffee when he already seemed to have more energy than anyone else just by being himself, but here they were, hitting up a new coffee shop because his shorter friend wanted to bring a coffee to training with the Olympic team.
“Just because Iwa says it’s bad doesn’t mean it kills you,” Hinata insisted like he was at Takeda’s level of making everything sound like great wisdom.
“Dumbass!” he responded, as usual. “You know I don’t like coffee.” And just like that, the conversation ended and they got in line, Tobio standing halfway behind, halfway beside Hinata since he wouldn’t be getting anything. They had this conversation almost every morning this week, and Kageyama was sick of it. Why would he keep trying coffee for energy when he knew the bad effects of it and didn’t even like the taste?
While they waited in line, he and Hinata kept bickering under their breaths, or Hinata would look at the menu boards while Kageyama looked at the display of cakes and bakery. That did look good, he should have some for his next cheat day. Wasn’t Tsukishima’s birthday coming up? Bet he’d have some strawberry shortcake.
And no matter how many thoughts he distracted himself with, they were all whisked away when Hinata got to the register and Tobio heard the softest voice asking what he wanted. So he looked up to discover possibly the prettiest person he had ever seen.
“Can you recommend a coffee without anything chocolate-y?” Hinata asked cheerily, making you hum in thought for a moment before nodding.
“Personally, I love a classic vanilla latte,” you suggested, and while Hinata agreed to get that, Kageyama also nodded as if you were talking to him. “And you?” you asked, turning your attention to him, who stood stiff as a tree beside Hinata.
Kageyama had never wanted a coffee more in his life. It's as if his brain totally forgot that you can order drinks without coffee in a café.
“He doesn’t want-”
“I’d like to have the same,” Kageyama said, effectively cutting Hinata off but also earning him a confused glare. “As him.”
“I thought you didn’t-”
“I’ll pay for both,” Kageyama added to hopefully bribe him into silence, giving his friend a strict side-eye. Please follow my lead, dumbass.
“Sounds good!” you said, not thinking too much about their dynamic. You were on the opening shift and talking to them helped keep you awake. “What’s your name?”
“Hinata and Kageyama…” he said, pointing to his friend and then himself. “What’s yours?” You looked up in surprise, accidentally smudging the little heart you drew behind his name. And if your cheeks flushed a light pink from the intensity of his stare, who could blame you?
You pointed to the little sign on your shirt. “Y/n,” you still said, about to turn away and start his order.
“Also uhh…” Kageyama put a hand up to stop you, happy when you looked up at him again expectantly but felt his cheeks copy your flush as he had no idea what he was trying to say. He looked around the café, looking for inspiration, and then back at you.
“Is there something else I could get you?” And now that he was stalling for time, you took a moment to relax your shoulders and take him in. He was a very handsome man, tall, dark-haired, very your type. You would be lying if you said his awkward front wasn’t charming as well.
Maybe he felt your eyes on him because he took to rubbing the back of his neck. “Something to eat?”
“Like bakery or a sandwich?” you suggested, not even noticing that Hinata had moved on and your coworker came over to man the other register.
“Bakery. What do you like?”
“Cinnamon rolls, they’re the best here, I swear,” you said, and your conviction made him finally crack a small smile.
“Two of those.”
Tumblr media
“We should come back here tomorrow,” Kageyama said, making Hinata chuckle at the finality of it because even though Kageyama was taller than him, he could clearly see the flush that was still burning his ears. Wait until everyone hears about this!
“Are you going to eat those?” he asked, pointing at the paper bag in his hand. Kageyama groaned.
Shit, I was going to leave one of the cinnamon rolls as a gift. Better luck next time.

A huge thanks to the gamemaster herself @cottonlemonade who inspired this and helped me mould the ideas into reality<3
(if you have previously sent me other requests, those are still in my drafts, so do not worry. I just want to celebrate this milestone before I get back to those!)

aand same with “just dance” I noticed. reader wonders if kuroo might like men and women, implying bokuto and reader so it is now correctly marked as f!reader<3
just realised upon a quick reread that I marked “crooked bangs” as gender neutral even though coach refers to reader as “her” one time. sorry, now marked as f!reader<3

Not usually favouring sports, you’re in the journalism club to make use of your great eye for design and writing. After watching one of your school’s volleyball team’s official games last season, you took notice of the boring brochures they handed out with the players’ information. You hadn’t yet chosen what to do for your project this semester and decided to lend your talents to making a better representation of the team’s charms and talents. What you didn’t expect to get out of the project was a date.
You received permission from their coach and captain and set up some equipment to take your photos in a room adjacent to the gym during practice. Hopefully, you can encourage them all to pose confidently. In order to not disturb their whole practice, you ask one grade to join you at a time, starting with the first-years and ending with the third-years. Good luck!

You already know the captain of your school’s volleyball team. Sometimes you wondered if Kuroo knew everyone. The two of you have a lot of classes together and you would be lying if you said you hated hearing his charming comments and finding fun ways to quip back at him. Perhaps you even developed a little crush. So when you decided on the project for your club, you asked him with the biggest possible doe eyes to approve it and help get his players to cooperate. He was more than happy to help you and arrange everything, despite telling you that you owe him.
Fortunately, the first years were easy. Absolute sweethearts that were so excited to show off. You had almost finished with the second-years when you met your first obstacle of the day, unless you count Lev being too tall for you to photograph without a stool to stand on and Inuoka not being able to stand still so most of the pictures ended up slightly blurry. No, this was an actual problem.
Kenma was having a bad day and didn’t want to.
Nekoma’s pampered prince was really not in the mood for this today, and with every pose you didn’t approve of as good enough, he got more fussy. His facial expressions were very expressive, especially now that he was annoyed, it just wasn’t the emotion you wanted. You sighed and stomped your foot a little, looking at him with a slight frown. “Can’t you try a little harder, Kenma?”
“Does it really matter? Just use the first ones,” he complained, sounding incredibly bored.
You were trying to resist saying you would snitch on him to Kuroo like a little kid, but it was getting gradually more difficult. “This project is important to me, I want to make all of you look good.”
“Are you saying I look ugly?” Okay, now he was being childish. The two of you glared at each other for a second before Yamamoto stepped in to yell at his teammate about how a pretty girl needed their help and Kuroo told them to do everything you say and then hurry back to practice. On the contrary, that only made Kenma more apathetic. “I won’t start posing up a storm just because Kuroo has a crush on her.”
You froze, biting your lip as a blush flushed over your cheeks at the reveal. He has a crush on you? Yamamoto started waving his hands as if stressed about the information being revealed, but he only stuttered out a few syllables that didn’t turn into anything usable. You pick up your camera and look through the pictures you had taken of Kenma again, still chewing on your lip as you try to focus on the task at hand. “Can you do this again, please? Last one.” You held up the camera to show him the reference photo and he silently agreed, standing ready for you. You change the angle a bit and do your best to adjust the lighting before finally dismissing the second-years. When Kenma was about to leave, you carefully tapped his shoulder, not really meeting his eyes. “Is it true? About Kuroo…”
Kenma heard his best friend talk about you all the time. Your wit and charm matched his and he was especially obsessed with how you started doing your hair lately. The setter didn’t look so annoyed with you anymore, which made you glad. “Yes. Please date him or something so he’ll stop whining to me about it.”
You were a bit nervous when the third-years arrived, switching between avoiding Kuroo and coming on too strong. How do you act when you know someone you like likes you back?
Yaku and Kai were great, following your instructions and easily giving you several options for what photo to use of each. As Kuroo stepped up to the plate, he talked to you while you got the camera ready and fetched the little stool you used for the first years. “I hope no one gave you any trouble today,” he said, sounding like he would rather have a normal conversation right now.
“Your best friend and I got into it but we came to an agreement,” you said, gaining a bit more confidence as you went along. That made him chuckle, a fond look on his face as he didn’t doubt Kenma would fight the spotlight. You smiled at him before holding up the camera again, making sure the lens was on him when you kept talking. “I didn’t know you had a crush on me!”
Oh, the betrayal. As Yaku’s laughter burst behind you, you watched through the camera lens as Kuroo faltered and his smile fell, snapping as many photos as you could. His face suddenly matched the uniform and his shoulders were sky-high. “Huh?” he said. He was flustered, brain trying desperately to decide if he should deny it or follow the flow. Damn it, Kenma. Suddenly, Kuroo regretted how he had stolen some of Kenma’s snacks earlier. “You’re not going to use those pictures, are you?” he ended up saying, unusually awkward. It was fun, seeing Kuroo stumble.
Yaku and Kai end up throwing in a little comment about being finished anyway and leaving the area, giving the two of you some space. When he came back to the gym, Yaku threw an arm over Kenma’s shoulder and ruffled his hair, giving him a confusing mix of praise and scolding.
Meanwhile, you were smiling at Kuroo as he stepped a little closer to you. “Of course not, they’re for my special collection.” You wiggled your eyebrows and Kuroo finally felt his shoulders relax a little.
“I did say you owe me one for this project, how about I take you out this weekend?” he asked, usual charm back in place along with his crooked smirk.
“That sounds great, Tetsuro,” you agreed, taking a moment to say anything else as you stared at him up close. Your cheeks were burning at this point and you fumbled with the camera. “Now, come on. We have to show off Nekoma’s captain!”
“You got it, boss.”
/please note that Yaku calls Kenma their «pampered prince» in season 4, so that is not me making a nasty comment about Kenma. I just think it’s a very cute nickname that fit the scenario!

You were already very familiar with Bokuto. The guy was so outgoing that he’s had an interaction with almost every student at Fukurodani, and your conversations simply spurred into many more of them. A couple of days a week, you would see him in the hallway and he would wave excitedly while yelling your name, so that’s how you also ended up talking a lot to Akaashi. It always brightened your day and you could easily admit you grew a bit extra fond of Akaashi as the two of you started spending time together without the third wheel, despite his complaints about it.
Akaashi found you very interesting. He loved listening to you ramble about your club and other interests whenever you two were together. In some ways, your excitement reminded him of Bokuto. Now, some people think Bokuto is stupid. He is not, because when he sees how you two interact, there is no doubt in his mind that something is going on. Bokuto said yes to this project before you even finished your first sentence, which made you laugh softly and thank him before continuing to explain anyway. After meeting with you, he excitedly told Akaashi all about it even though he already heard about it from you, but Bokuto enjoyed how Akaashi seemed so happy about it coming true. That’s why Bokuto asked him during practice if he was planning on asking you out soon.
“What?” Akaashi said, grabbing the ball instead of passing it back.
“Y/n. Shouldn’t you ask her out soon?” the captain asked, gesturing for Akaashi to keep going with the drills. He didn’t.
“Uhh maybe…” Bokuto walked over, annoyed that he wasn’t passing but also smiling as he got an idea and interrupted Akaashi from answering further.
“You can do it while she’s here for the project!” he suggested, imagining some grand scene that didn’t suit Akaashi at all. “Make it real romantic, like when she’s taking the picture you say ‘your pretty smile is even brighter than the camera flash’ and magically whip out a bouquet of roses.”
“I will do it, Bokuto. At some point.” Akaashi assured him, stern but still soft as he wanted Bokuto to feel like he was helping in some way. “She doesn’t even like roses…” he mumbled as well. His mind went into overthinking for a while, mindlessly passing the ball between him and Bokuto.
Akaashi had put emphasis on the will because he planned on doing it the day after your photo shoot when you two shared lunch and discussed the player details. However, he didn’t notice that he didn’t emphasise that idea to his friend. The captain was thrilled because all he heard was you’re right, I will.
The photo shoot was easy so far. The Fukurodani team knew how to look confident and you had an all around good time with them. Your waves of laughter could be heard from outside the room and you all spent the time well. Akaashi seemed happy and you wondered if the room might be too hot as his cheeks were slightly red when you looked at him through the camera lens. He gave you a little smile and put his hands on his hips, doing his best to make you happy with his effort.
You took the picture and put the camera down in your lap to check it, whistling and then looking back up at the guy. “That’s great, Akaashi.” He had given you a couple of options.
He was the last one, so you sent another second year to get the third-years and kept making jokes with everyone as they shuffled out. Akaashi walked a bit slower, thanking you for doing the project for them and telling you to have good luck with the others. Well… with Bokuto.
“Hey, hey, hey!” Bokuto walked in first and bounced over to you, putting an arm over your shoulder and asking if you were doing alright. You confirmed but were still watching Akaashi as he left, giving Konoha a high five and then glancing over his shoulder at you. Bokuto looked between you two excitedly before yelling out. “Hey, Akaashi! Did you ask her out like you planned to?”
Akaashi froze, slowly turning around with a face filled with horror. You were surprised, frowning at Bokuto because you had not been asked about anything like that. Akaashi huffed and avoided your eyes. “No, I was going to do it tomorrow for lunch,” he whispered under his breath, sounding absolutely exasperated.
“So you already have a date tomorrow, that’s great!” Bokuto said, and Akaashi had to gather all his strength to not hit him over the head and make him too dejected before you had to deal with him. Everyone else in the room was laughing at the show and you couldn’t help the small chuckle either. Even though your cheeks were burning red, you smiled brightly and gave Akaashi a little wave.
“I look forward to our date, Akaashi. Get back to practice, I’ll send this one back to you when I’m done with him,” you teased, nodding your head at Bokuto who was giving off ‘I know I did something wrong but I’m happy with the outcome’ vibes.
“Just call me Cupid, I can be hired for any volleyball-related dating proposals,” he announced, making the other team members wince. No way.
