i love the dweu. you can love classic who companions. you can watch everything they are in, love them dearly, sing their praises up the rooftops to make people understand them deeper. and then still get hit with: "i love them, a shame about the mpreg though" ...and you just have to sit there and prosses for a minute

I don't wanna @ anyone because I understand how fast things seem to move in today's landscape of streaming shows dropping entire seasons in one day, and networks pumping out new series constantly to try to attract more subscribers with no intent to actually maintain those shows over time but I just saw someone self-deprecatingly lament that they are still thinking about a show that ended almost a year ago, making fan art and playlists for it, and I want to be very clear:

you can still create fanworks when it comes to old media!! PLEASE do!! there are always going to be new fans who will appreciate it, and veteran fans who are dying for new content and new perspectives. also, less than a year is NOTHING. the original Star Trek series was on TV six decades ago and there are still people losing their minds over it, writing stories and reblogging gifsets daily, and that's only one example.

a fandom lasts as long as there are people who love a thing, even if it's only a handful of people. love what you love and write and draw and make gifs and playlists about it!

#oh man i am Not Sure how to answer this #dr who alone makes it Rough #bc the show itself? obviously ongoing #the only era i actually create anything for? very much over #unless you count in the EU which i do keep up with #but are the recent parts of the EU linked to anything i've created closely enough to count if the ongoing tv show does not?#occasionally. but usually only incidentally/when it works for what i already wanted to do #dr who has no canon kinda but 60s episodes supremacy for sure yk?#and i appreciate the poll maker specifying how to handle old books #but what about old plays?#not that i particularly want to admit to having written anything that definitively falls into the fanwork category for plays #but supposing for a second i had #obviously they're always being revived. but what counts as a major enough revival to register on a scale like this?#does any large scale production make it 'ongoing' on the grounds that it might attract current fandom-like attention?#even if the work in question is unrelated to that revival & purely the product of the original script?#what about if a work was sparked by a smaller production that's more recent but def not part of any cultural consciousness?#these questions dont even all apply to the plays i have definitely not ever written anything for but they certainly do make it messy #like are we wondering about how recent the maker ran out of content or how recent people mostly stopped paying attention to the thing?#or are we looking at the difference between the interest in fanworks for stories that are still in progress vs complete?#bc to my mind one is significantly easier to get into on a fanwork side than the other #but perhaps im in a minority there
