Aaaaand I’m at it again, double knitting yet another @HandHuntKnits cowl. This time it’s the mammoth cowl and I’m trying to be super neat about it as I want to enter it into the 2024 Royal Easter Show.
Finally cleared off my craft desk of full spindles, and holy heck! I am doomed to some serious plying hell because I filled up a lot of spindles…and this isn’t even all the spindles I own now…
Last part of the collab with @urboros is coming along nicely. The stretch gloves are completed and the thumb/index/middle feature conductive thread so you can still use your phone whilst wearing. The claws were sanded & their sew holes were drilled, making them now ready for paint.
More progress on the pet portrait windstone pyo. I’m planning to highlight some scales after antiquing to really make those metallic blended sections pop.
Started up a shawl using the black welsh & white scandi handspun yarns from last year. Again, I’m having to teach myself a bunch of new knitting stitches.
Thought I’d share the very first spin I did on my new Daedalus wheel earlier this year. This fibre (called Tropical Paradise, which didn’t give me tropical vibes at all) I used as tribute to dial in my preferred settings for singles and plying. Thus the resulting yarn is very over spun, over plyed, and under plyed in places.
My mum happened to like the texture of it, so it’s been yeeted into her stash, because, gosh is this mega skein fugly.
Last part of the collab is the bird gloves. I’ve made a set of claws from apoxie sculpt which will be painted to match the skull being made by @urboros. I’ve also modified my personal glove pattern so it’ll fit the average person (rather than abnormally tiny, stubby handed me) with some help from my partner “Mr Everyman”.
WIP of a pet portrait I’m working on a windstones rock dragon pyo. The dragon has all its base colours/gradients & the rock has been based on painted and antiqued. The plan now is to layer on some iridescent purples/turquoise/greens before antiquing using darker versions of the base colours.
Moffy is super difficult to photograph! The mask (so far) features an iridescent paint job, moveable ear tufts, moving jaw, and orange glow eyes.
This mask isn’t finished yet. I am planning to add a fur hood with included rooster feathers, but that’s going to have to wait until I have more money for materials.
Feather fan of the collab tail is completed and ready to be sewn into the main tail section. I chose to appliqué the feather lines to make them stand out more and give a bit more strength for the internal wire that’ll keep the fan nice & stiff.
I’ve been making some fun sea bunnies from a pattern I recently picked up as an excuse to try out chenille yarn. I’m going to make as many sea bunnies as the yarn I have allows.
One will be selected to continue to live its best life with me & the rest will require good homes. Stay tuned for when the sea bunny army is released into myshop!
Completely forgot to take photos of the assembly process. You’ll just have to believe me that it had to all be handsewing & was obnoxious. The last step is to give these paws a haircut - I love seeing the difference a trim makes!
Ears! I tried to use the ball joints from a phone stand to get poseability but they poked up behind the sculpts raised bits too much, so back to plain galvanised wire. I’m so happy how the paint work came out on them too.
