Wait, general election for July 4th? Congratulations I guess, hope for the slight unweirdening of the UK
The UK will be swapping one conservative right-wing government for another conservative right-wing government.

A Labour ‘think-tank’ that helped oust Corbyn has received a record breaking amount of donations and effectively created the UK’s first super PAC.

Nearly £2 million since the start of 2024. Large chunk from a hedge fund billionaire.
British political corruption is evolving.

Very curious to hear what policies Labour have announced that have indicated they’d make life easier for marginalised people?
Labour threaten immigrants with this rhetoric, they’ve attacked ‘work-shy’ disabled people, they dropped their commitments on Palestine, they frequently engage in anti-trans and therefore anti-LGBT rhetoric, and they’ve just deselected an array of left-wing candidates made up mostly of people of colour.
Also left-leaning people never stopped voting, I don’t know where you’re getting that from.
Tumblr media
Keir Starmer says “Read my lips: I will cut immigration.”
Let me be absolutely clear here, cutting immigration is the wrong thing to do. It is fuelled by racism, and dressed up in economic language to pretend otherwise.
The UK has an aging population and declining birth rate. If we struggle to attract foreign workers, this will impact our economy and public services. A good example of this is the NHS.
‘Bad bosses’ are not hiring internationally before they’ve exhausted every option here. It’s easy to think of a large corporate doing that but even then it’s more likely they’d outsource a whole department in its entirety to another foreign company.
Also your dad’s marketing start-up or your mum’s construction company is not going through the lengthy process of hiring people who don’t already live here.
This also contradicts the UK’s push to have as many foreign students (paying as many tuition fees) as possible. These students have lives here, and should be able to work as they choose post-graduation.
This policy is aimed at those who read the word ‘immigration’ and pop a blood vessel, and it speaks wonders to how Labour thinks about the economy - no different than the Conservative Party.

While writing this I realised that I got no political education despite going to a 'top' school...
I live in a Labour stronghold. I vote Green in locals. I will vote Green at the General Election, and I think Green might be 2nd/3rd.
So, the Labour MP (who will be on the front bench), will her team look at the large Green vote and try to modify policies to attract us back to voting for her? Or do parties just go "yay we won, everyone wants everything we're saying we'll do"?
Thanks
I think the worst thing everyone could do this general election is bend over and let Labour walk in unopposed.
So I’d encourage anyone in a labour stronghold to make them actually work for it. Genuine progressive politics are a threat to Labour because they always expect to cash in the left-wing vote. They haven’t deserved the left-wing vote in decades.
Making them work for it is probably the best thing to do.

Labour have a flagship policy called ‘Great British Energy’ which they’ve got some fancy graphics of at the moment. They claim it will lower energy prices, create jobs and they’re specifically saying it’ll be headquartered in Scotland.
The name hints towards what most people would assume is a national energy company.
But Keir Starmer was recently forced to reveal that it’s not actually an energy company in the slightest.
‘Great British Energy’ won’t be an energy retailer and it won’t own any infrastructure. He admitted it’s an investment vehicle for the private sector.
That might create a few jobs, but it’s absolutely nothing like a national energy company that they’re pretending it is.

So, genuine question. Who are you supposed to vote for here? I understand, I know, "vote for who you want", but Labour killed any chance I'd vote for it, SNP is acting like clowns which... awesome, love my country. And the tories and BNP are just hitlerites. Is there any party that's good? Like, green party?
SNP depending on candidate or Greens I think

fun fact anytime i argue with my parents they call me autistic... ive never been diagnosed, no one in my family is a doctor either. theyve just read what autism is like and assume im autistic... because i have no friends. also they love to know what im doing 24/7 or even my brother is doing who lives in another country... they see nothing wrong with this. they state its just their parental love, i think its too much... i cant afford a house in this economy and i hate landlords so im stuck...
I’m sorry to hear that, that’s not an acceptable thing for your parents to say, and I find the whole ‘parental love’ thing icky.
Hope you’re doing alright anon, things will get better.
