I'm not trying to start shit so feel free not to respond, but on your tags on your landlord post I just wanted to point out: your landlord would have to do maintenance on the property anyway. That's the reason people say it's not a job - if I own a house and something breaks, fixing it isn't my profession it's just what I do because my property is broken (plus your lease often forbids you from doing repairs). The fact that many (a majority of?) landlords don't do maintenence even if it's against the law not to, or say they'll do it but it's months later, shows that it's barely considered an essential part of the "job", yknow?
Anyway hope you're having a lovely day, and may your landlords always be tolerable~
Hi anon! I'm also answering respectfully 馃檶 no one here is starting shit.
I am fortunate and actually owned my own home for a number of years, so it's been amazing to be able to tell the company to fix the water heater, the dishwasher, the washing machine, a broken light fixture, etc. and they usually get it done within a day. Plus they reroofed the entire complex and having done that process twice myself, it is GREAT to have someone else do the work. So that's the perspective I'm coming from. I want to be able to pay this company my rent + upkeep money. I actually think there are benefits to that concept (for the disabled, for single parents and others who are already incredibly busy, for the planet, for those of us who are just lazy 馃ぃ).
The problem--and I would venture to say we're on the same page here--is that I have no power. They raised rent 10% this year, they are trying to force the apartment community to follow their standards of proper white upper middleclass behavior, they get to decide how to maintain the grounds (badly) and how to update the apartments (to make it easier to evict people and to charge more rent). If the maintenance team weren't top notch, I'd be suffering for days without hot showers.
I happened to get on a landlord advocacy email list (long story), and their attitude toward tenants as nothing more than exchangeable dollar signs sickened me.
Overall, I feel the very power structure of being a landlord corrupts. And I say that from personal experience, having briefly renting one of my houses after I moved out. >_< I'd like to see regulation/legislative changes that put a ton more power and rent control (I'd say ideally capped very close to cost) with the tenants, while still letting a landlord have rights when a tenant is actively destructive. (People can be insanely destructive, whether tenant or owner. I have seen some shit. And I mean that literally.) But really, ideally, I'd mostly like to see ownership of properties go back to the people.
Anyway, I'm nothing but an old fogey baby socialist with an unfortunately un-idealistic mindset 馃憣 don't mind me. And thank you for reaching out.

Good morning, it's been another one of those sleepless nights so I am starting early. It's been raining most of the night and somewhat windy. But it's 64掳 out at 2:50 AM so at least it isn't cold, however those of us who have experienced the weather know that the cold is coming after the rain.
I'm praying that our little family is dry and snug in their beds dreaming blissful dreams and peacefully snoring the night away. Momma is excited about going into housing like I stated previously and baby is starting to finally catch the bug, hopefully it won't be long until they're able to move into someplace. Let's pray that the Lord leads them to their new home quickly with no problems. Sometimes these agencies move very slowly and sometimes it's just not possible to find adequate housing. To be honest most of the housing that is available through agency assistance is in bed areas of town and not the kind of places you want to raise a kid. I'm praying that they are able to find housing in a nicer area maybe through a private landlord. It will have to be affordable of course, you're only allotted a certain amount with these agencies and that has to cover rent and utilities; in most cases they want to charge too much for rent or the utilities are too high, in some cases however it is possible to find reasonable rent and sometimes they even have utilities included. This would be the type of scenario I pray for our little family here reasonable rent all utilities included.
Well momma God willing gets to sleep for a few more hours, I don't know where they camped last night but I'm hoping that it's not someplace where they have to get up early and move. I often wish I knew where they were camped so that I could greet her in the morning with some coffee and some breakfast for the child. I'm sure hot coffee and a hot breakfast would be appreciated by them. But with today being Saturday I'm hoping that they can catch some extra rest, I know momma at least deserves it. Hopefully the rain doesn't give way to too cold weather, it's been bitter cold here a few nights already; makes for hard sleep and a rough wake up, it's not like being in a house where the temperatures stay the same. Nope, when the outside gets cold that car gets cold and the only things you can do are turn on the car (use gas that you can't afford) or climb deeper into the bedroll (provided you have a good enough bedroll) other than that you just freeze. We're hoping to get them into housing before the real cold hits, that SUV doesn't have the best insulation. But this will happen soon enough God willing and I whole heartedly believe that he is.
in the meantime she has a brake line trying to blow out and she's terrified that she's not going to be able to stop one of these times. Someone managed to steal the catalytic converter so the SUV (that already drank gas) is now guzzling fuel at an expedient rate. She appears to have a loose battery connection that keeps draining the battery causing her to have to find a jump every time she turns around. These are just the things that I am able to recall off of the top of my head, I know there's more but they escape me at the moment. These repairs are quite costly, and when you have no income to speak of then they are insurmountable. Momma keeps trying to push herself and does what work she can (against Drs orders) just to bring what little money she is able to. She does her best to make sure that baby doesn't go without, often at the risk of her own health and well being; I've seen her go without eating just to feed the child, I've seen her sit up at night while the child was sick and I've watched her cry herself to sleep for not being able to do more. She is a very dedicated mother and should have a chance to give her baby a decent life.
Soon we will start gathering things like a microwave and coffee maker, I think she might like a toaster oven and maybe I'll give her my crock pot; shower curtain and house curtains of course they will have to wait until we know what house they're in, beds and a living room set and kitchen utensils as well as dishes and pots and pans. Normal household stuff that most of us take for granted and it all costs money. We will be at that gathering point very soon, I may begin gathering some stuff up and storing it for her; as long as I have room to store it. Either way we're getting there but they still need your help, the list that I've just laid out is quite expensive for one person but not for many people working together. With just a little bit here and a little over there it all adds up and these seemingly impossible expenses can be tackled in on time. So please consider sending some money towards this endeavor, they really are ready to restart their lives.
Thank you for taking the time to visit today, and thank you for all of the love and prayers you send. Thank you to those who offer monetary assistance. May God bless and keep you all through Jesus Christ our Lord.
