In the early afternoon, under a gray sky... Camilo and his parents were on their way to an art gallery...
I recently played the Ib remake (Ib is one of my favorite JRPG horrors and games in general, the remake is so good--) and got blasted by this entirely self-indulgent crossover/AU/what-have-you.
After losing his parents in an art gallery and finding himself in a strange world of moving artwork, Camilo must find his way back to reality without damaging a golden rose that’s mysteriously tied to his own health. Along the way he finds two other people looking for the exit... but who will end up escaping in the end?
I will now proceed to never elaborate on this AU again--
Artworks sampled in the back include:
The Hermitage at Pontoise; Camille Pissarro
A landscape via an unknown follower of John Constable
The Third of May 1808; Francisco Goya

The Madrigal-Fontana family
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mateo Vicente Madrigal Fontana
He is a twin, and the oldest child of his family. His gift is to make astral trips to any part of the world by meditation. When he's using his gift, a third eye glows pink on his forehead and he can also levitate. He's the edgy cousin of the family.
Fun facts about him:
Mateo doesn't like his middle name (Vicente). The only one who can call him that is his mother.
He's a calm boy, but gets into trouble very often 'cause he has no filter and can sound "rude."
He's Itzel's favorite child, and they're very close.
He and his twin sister are the closest, and do many things together, and although sometimes he can't stand her and treats her rudely, he's always behind his sister, protecting her.
He likes poetry and is a hopeless romantic.
His favorite place is the beach, and he goes there whenever he needs peace.
When he uses his gift, the pink third eye that appears on his forehead is real and functional. His sister sometimes pokes it to annoy him.
He likes to meditate in Dolores' room.
He's the only one of the Madrigal-Fontana children who got Bruno's wavy hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Dalia Elizabeth Madrigal Fontana
She's Dalia, Mateo's twin sister. Dalia has the gift of making clones of herself and other people. She can make up to five clones, and they function as a hive mind if she wants. She can also let them act on autopilot. She's daddy's little princess, and the spoiled brat of her family.
Fun facts about her:
Dalia is Bruno's favorite child. The two of them formed a very strong bond since she was a baby, and Bruno fulfills many of her whims. For the same reason, she grew up accustomed to getting what she wants, and if she doesn't get it, she gets frustrated and cries. She knows that's not okay, and it's something she's still working on.
Since she was a child she's very involved in the theater that her father founded and he relates a lot with her cousin Camilo, so she loves to act, and her biggest influences are the two of them. For that reason she got a gift similar to Camilo's.
Her way of showing affection, in addition words of affirmation, are her jokes. She likes to play pranks on her close family and friends.
She shows off her family quite a bit, and she's a big fan of her parents' relationship.
She gets into trouble easily because she is very talkative, mischievous and witty.
She has a strong sense of loyalty toward her loved ones, so she's the first to defend them when they are getting attacked. More specifically, Bruno and Esmeralda.
Her best friend is her twin brother, and they both watch each other's backs.
She is a good girl, but it's better to have her as a friend than an enemy, because she brings out the worst side of her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Perla Esmeralda Madrigal Fontana
And this is Esme, the youngest of the Madrigal grandchildren. Her gift is earthbending. She's a sweet and naive girl, and since her power is directly related to her emotional strength, she's unable to get out of control. She has had problems in the town due to the limited scope of her power, and they often compare her negatively with her father.
Fun facts about her:
Esmeralda is considered the baby of the family, and her parents and siblings treat her as such.
She is abuela's favorite granddaughter because of her resemblance to Bruno, and since Esme was a child, she's been overprotective of her.
She's also very close to Julieta's daughters, especially Isabela. As a child she took her gardening together, which influenced her gift of earthbending.
Despite being introverted, she has always been a very sociable and kind girl, although a little naive.
She is such a crybaby.
She takes guitar lessons with her dad and Mirabel.
She also likes to do crafts with her mom. The two of them are in charge of making the scenery for Bruno's plays.
She is the most attached to Bruno's rats of the Madrigal-Fontana children, and there isn't a day when she doesn't have a rat on top of her.
Of her siblings, she's the most similar to the Madrigal family, and she inherited many of her abuelo Pedro's traits.
She doesn't get along well with her maternal grandmother, who has always preferred her sister Dalia for being more like the Fontanas.
I don't think I've ever published anything of my fankids here, sooo... here they are! I tried to use a color palette consistent with the Madrigal family, without filling it completely with green. It was also very fun to make the patterns representative of their gifts.

I know, it's been a hot minute since last Sonic crossover was mentioned... but I went through my drafts and found this! (I think it was a script for a comic or something...) I want to send it for somebody to see! This is based on the Sonic Underground theme song XD
Night sky, thousands of stars. Three more stars lit up, blue, green and yellow.
Madrigal~
A royal chamber. Young woman, Queen Alma Madrigal, lays with her small children. Triplets. Julieta, the eldest, lays in her mother's arm, Pepa, the middle, sits next to her, Bruno, the youngest, looks up at his mother, his hands on her stomach
Triplets born, the throne awaits
A green fog rises up in front of Alma, now wearing a cloak over her clothes, holds her little children, looks scared
A seer warns of a deadly fate!
Alma runs away, looking at one of her babies with tearful, sorrowful look. Then, she leaves a basket on a doorstep of a small house, running away
Give up your children, separate!
Alma looks up, tearing more, before lowering her head.
Bide your time, lie in wait!
Shot of Alma from the back, her cape waving in the air
The triplets, now teens and reunited, fight the battalion of robots. They rub their medallions and they turn into musical instruments/weapons
Julieta stands with guitar, playing it, before it strikes, destroying robots. She looks confident, smrking
Madrigal Underground
Bruno holds a keyboard in his hands, shooting lasers from it. He's both nervous and anxious, yet determined
Madrigal Underground
Pepa jumps on a drum, starting to drumming, as it charges and ball of energy shoots, destroying her enemies. Her face shows determination, confidence and courage.
They made a vow, their mother will be found!
Two enemies, Mateo and Diego, come to join the battle.
Little Julieta with her foster family. Her foster father is cooking, while she puts some additional ingredients in behind his back, before letting him try. He smiles, petting her head.
Teenage Julieta shoots her guitar to destroy robots, saving people by a food stand, as she rushes in to check up and treat their injuries.
The children grow, learn what's right!
Little Bruno learns how to drive a bike, wearing all protection needed. And, to put it into good use, as he falls two seconds later. Yet another prediction of his came true.
Teenage Bruno drives a motorcycle, to warn people about the coming battalion.
Leaders of the freedom fight!
Alma stands on the cliff, closing her eyes, tear runs down her face
They seek their mother, she knows they do!
Little Pepa drums on walls, her eyes bored, but once the lightning bolt hits, she giggles, throwing the drumsticks up
The drumsticks are caught by a teenage Pepa, who again uses them on her drums, to make earth under her enemies fall, with them
Is it time? If she only knew!
Light comes up and Mateo and Diego are shown next to their boss. Lady Annabelle.
Will the property come true?!
Scene changes to a concert scene, a huge crowd, yelling and cheering. The Madrigal Underground on the scene, playing one of their songs.
Madrigal Underground
Julieta spins around the scene, to her siblings, who smile/smirk at her, pouring their hearts into their performance.
Madrigal Underground
Alma is shown on the cliff, her cape flying in the wind and one her tear flies off her face, as she sings her part.
I long for my children, but I have to wait
Alma is shown over her children's show, her face both filled with sorrow and hope
To act too soon could seal their fate!
The triplets finished their show, but still on the scene, as they high five each other, their medallions lit up bright and the light shoots up into the sky.
They made a vow, their mother will be found!
Same scene as beginning. Space, stars. The three special stars shine brighter than ever before, meaning the union of the Madrigal Triplets
Madrigal Underground!
VERY COOL WHAT‼️‼️‼️
I forgot about the banger opening, honestly I’m kinda sad the show never finished :’’’( EITHER WAY. INthink this is so cool, the instruments fit well <33

When will Camilo's friends get a proper slap and some poisonous plants?
Maybe at some point.
Not now though.
Kinda hard when the rest of the family don’t have their names.
~~~~~~
“—And the rest of us are all left walking on eggshells. I couldn’t stand it a moment longer.”
“Well, you can stay here for as long as you like,” Mariano offered.
Dolores smiled in gratitude. “We both know I can’t. I’d rather be here though. But I have to go back… they are my family at the end of the day.”
“You could always go spend time with Antonio and your grandparents. I’m sure they’d let you.”
“I doubt it. If anyone is going to be needed over the next few days, it’ll be me and my gift.” Mariano opened his mouth and Dolores shook her head. “It’s been too long, Tía Julieta can’t heal her.”
He winced. “Ah, that’s… not great?”
“Mirabel will get over it. It’s not like she does much beyond sewing and reading. She won’t notice much difference physically.”
“I’d send her some ‘get well soon’ flowers, but I don’t think it would go down well with Isabela.”
“Just buy her some wool. She’ll be much more amused.” Dolores chuckled. “Or you could read to her for an hour. Luisa’s already shattered her voice.”
“What? Again? Didn’t she do that last week?”
“Yes. To prove she could sing higher than Isabela. She couldn’t. It was not pleasant.”
Mariano laughed.
Dolores did too.
“It can’t have been that bad. Your cousins can both sing.”
“No. It is like nails on a chalkboard.”
He shook his head, sighing.
“How are your parents taking it?”
“My parents?”
“It’s their son who… you know?” Mariano prompted. For all his poetry, he was struggling to put the action into words.
“I don’t think they know how to handle it,” Dolores admitted. Drumming a pencil lightly against the desk. “Mama thinks he is completely innocent, of course - he can do no wrong in her eyes. And Papa clearly doesn’t want to believe it but can’t argue with the evidence, nor is he sure what to do himself. And the focus somehow always falls back to Antonio because he’s the youngest.”
They didn’t say anything for a while.
“Are you sure you’re alright?” Mariano asked.
“Of course.” Dolores asserted. “Just a bit stressed is all.”
“…But?”
“But… why didn’t I hear it?”
~~~~~~
“What noise do you think a doe makes?” Lorenzo asks, turning to his sister.
“They bleat, don’t they? Like sheep?” Rebecca responded.
They glanced back at Mirabel, who kept her elsewhere. Trying hard not to let it show how terrified she was (though knowing she was failing on that front).
She sniffled. “You can’t hurt me.”
“It’s not like you’re going to stop us.” Rebecca shrugs.
“You think we’re just gonna let you skip off and tattle on us?” Mateo asks, looking sincere for a moment. Then he cackles, “God, this isn’t the school playground, you idiot!”
Felicia steps forward, “Even if we did, it’s not like anyone is gonna believe your side of the story. You’ve already proved to be a pretty unreliable witness.” She reaches out, grasping the back of Mirabel’s hair and tilting her head up. “Don’t remember? Let’s see… it was a child’s fifth birthday party, someone cried the building was breaking and the miracle was dying, but when we went to look there wasn’t a crack or any rubble in sight. Ring any bells?”
Mirabel didn’t say a word, not daring to look away from the leaves on the ground.
Something is forced into her earlobe. It snaps in place painfully, burning against her skin and heavy. She wails. Turing around in wild confusion - when did Ignacio get there? But what catches her eye the most is the bright yellow thing hanging there.
“There’s something real for you to cry about,” Sola taunts. Felicia and Rebecca laugh.
Ignacio moves again, going for her opposite ear.
Mirabel tries to curl in on herself, away from the onslaught of pain, away from this torment, but her body is soon being held taut by Lorenzo and Felicia.
There’s nowhere to go.
“What’s the matter? I thought you Madrigals were so brave and invincible,” Rebecca comments, trying to get a reaction.
Felicia thought for a moment. “Then again… she was never a real Madrigal, was she?”
Ignacio shoves the other tag and clips it in. She thinks he caught some skin as he did, there’s a nip that didn’t happen the first time.
Mirabel is dropped, landing on her hands and knees briefly, then collapsing onto her side. She doesn’t attempt to stand, but she tries to sit up and adjust her glasses.
Rebecca harshly swatted her hand away, pinching the glasses at the bridge and pulling them away.
“Animals don’t get nice things,” she explained.
Mirabel doesn’t see where the glasses go but she assumes from the giggling between Rebecca and Mateo, they are definitely broken.
Lorenzo cooed at her suddenly, looking down and petting her head. “What a pretty, little doe you are!”
“And now that you’re all marked up, everyone will know what an important deer you are.” Felicia added. “It must be nice for you to finally be worth something now, isn’t it?”

Encanto AU - Bruno's Kids Names 1
I'm thinking of giving Bruno Madrigal triplets, 2 boys & 1 girl. The 1st being a boy, the second being a girl, & the youngest a boy.
These are some possible names for his first son, whose power is to reveal the spirits of the lingering dead to give families the chance to say goodbye before sending them to the afterlife. A very sweet, compassionate, & empathetic boy, who always lends an ear to those in emotional pain. He will likely grow up to be a grief counselor. However, I also see him, much like Luisa, as tending to put other people's needs before his own as a result of him trying to help others grieve.
In this way, if he ever ends up losing someone, he's honestly the sort to put his own grieving on the backburner as he helps others who were affected by that loss to come to terms with the passing first.
He'll likely have to find a way to learn to grieve while he helps others do the same. You know, helping others but also not ignoring his own pain.
Keep in mind that there are 2 other polls & one of the girl's possible names will be Adriana.

WANTED CONNECTIONS:
— someone to show her around chile ! she is quite literally fresh off the plane y'all she's so lost — someone she knew during childhood maybe? might be a future wc but i think it'd be fun ! — a platonic soulmate, her bestest of friends if you will. — a roommate !!! she is so broke someone take her in and split the bill with her omfg (also she lives in a cool house by the sea similar to an old hermit . i think someone should come live there with her) — who is she not getting along with immediately . who is she fighting . she's a mexican older sister you know she's kinda judgy even if she tries to say she's not :/ — more to come be patient

"ㅡI knew you were waiting for my demise to get with that Maria woman, you low-down, good for nothing bastard! The fact that you moved on before my body had even settled into the ground tells me everything I need to know! Every day you spend time going to that harlot's house instead of being at home grieving for me! I pray to my ancestors above that you fall victim to El Boraro and he rips your cojones from yourㅡ"
"And that will be all. Thank you very much, Señora Luciana. I will be sure to let Señor Mateo know of your grievances," you told the spirit before sending her away.
As soon as she was dispersed back to the other side, your body gave a tired sigh, your ears still ringing at the ungodly screeches left by the vengeful spirit. You should have known better than to accept Mateo's request; Luciana was a loud woman while living, and death surely didn't put a dent in her voice.
"So what did Luciana say? Did she say anything about me?" Mateo asked, hands holding on to the picture of his recently deceased wife with bright eyes.
You winced at his hopefully face, "Um, yes. She's happy that you aren't too distraught from her passing and wanted you to know that she loves you," you told him, lying through your teeth with a forced smile.
Mateo's shoulders sagged in both sadness and relief. "That's good. Since her death, I've been receiving crocheting lessons from Maria to pass the time," he told you with a sheepish smile, "Luciana always begged me to learn with her, and every time I told her no. Hopefully, the lessons will pay off and she will like the blanket I made for her headstone."
You felt your heart internally crack as Mateo stared down at the picture with sad eyes, gently caressing the frame; oblivious to his dead wife's sadistic wishes for his suffering.
Poor man, even beyond the grave, his wife somehow jumps to conclusions, you thought with a shake of your head. May he never die, or he'll be stuck with her shouts for an eternity, literally.
"Anyways, thank you for your help, ____. I will be sure to return for my next appointment," he told you as you held the door open for him.
Shutting the door, you slid down to the ground with a big huff.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk, what a bad medium you are, ____. Lying to your customers," a voice taunted in your ear, causing you to groan in annoyance.
"Please shut up, Sidero. I'm not in the mood," you said, looking over to the smiling spirit.
Sidero was the first spirit you met when your gift manifested at 5-years-old. After nearly falling victim to pneumonia, you were fortunately healed by Julieta's gift, but due to your near-death experience, it seemed to awaken your gift: the gift to communicate with those beyond the living.
At first, when you told others about the people you would see walking around town, they assumed you meant the townsmen until you began describing them, saying the names of those dead, and even speaking of things that happened before your time.
The town was in shock: a child that wasn't a Madrigal had received a gift?
Many, as well as the adults of Casa Madrigal, were stumped, wondering how you had such a gift when there wasn't a single door within Casita that had your name plastered across its surface.
It was then, with a heavy heart, that your mother admitted her lineage.
Apparently, long ago, the women of the Muertez line were blessed by the Goddess of Death, Santa Muerte, and given an array of abilities that were related to death.
Your mother talked of the tales of your ancestors, women who were priestesses to the deity. They used their abilities to dispel myths about death, teaching people that it wasn't the end of life, but rather a part of it.
She admitted that she didn't think you would get a gift, seeing that the lineage wasn't blessed with one in nearly six generations, the last being your great-great-great-great grandmother, Adriana Muertez, who could temporarily bring life into corpses or inanimate objects using the heart of an animal.
She also confessed to keeping it from your father because of what happened to her family. Because of the nature of the Muertezs' gifts, they were known far and wide, but then, after hundreds of years of peace, they were turned on by those they helped.
Though she didn't experience it, her mother did. She explained how her mother, your maternal grandmother, told her how she watched many of her family members get burned at the stake for witchcraft. To save her, your grandparents took your mother and ran, leaving the name Muertez behind to cover their tracks.
Eventually, everyone seemed to accept it, which greatly surprised your mother, who thought they would harm you. Alma even promised to always ensure harm would never come to you because a gift is a gift, no matter its nature, and that no child should be harmed because of it.
And soon, seeing spirits hanging around became the norm, especially for the noiret-haired teen named Sidero Patricio.
"You're never in the mood to deal with me," he whined, allowing himself to float upside down while staring you in the face with a pout.
Sidero was handsome, but not in the conventional sense. He had an appearance that would have made him stand out in the crowd if he were alive. Standing at around 5'11, Sidero was tan with two unfathomable dark-colored eyes paired with inky black hair.
Waving him off, you pushed yourself up from the floor, dusting your clothes. "Because you're always yapping away in my ear," you told him, walking around to light cleansing incense.
"Only because I care about you," the spirit argued, following close behind you much like a puppy would. "If I didn't, I would have dispersed to the other side, leaving you without me, your only friend."
An incredulous squawk escaped your body, "WhatᅳI have friends!"
"I'm sure you do, chiquita."
You couldn't help but bristle at the nickname before turning to Sidero with a raised brow, "Stop with the chiquita, okay? I'm not little anymore. Plus, if we're going to get literal, it should be the other way around with me calling you chiquito since I'm almost two years older than you."
"____, ____, ____..." Sidero sighed, setting himself on the ground. "You may be older than me physically, but I've got decades on you, chiquita," he teased, smiling over at you.
Knowing that he got you there, you waved him off once more, "Still, I don't know where you got that I don't have friends. I'll have you know, I have many friends."
"The dead don't count, and since I'm a part of that demographic... you see where I'm going with this."
You knew he was only trying to rile you up, but you couldn't help the annoyance bubbling in your chest. "Sidero Nacio Patricio, I am this close"ᅳyou held your pointer and thumb an inch apartᅳ"to banishing you to the land of the dead and not allowing you back until next week."
Instead of him apologizing like you assumed he would, Sidero just laughed as he walked over to you. "Oh~ I can't believe you went and used my full name on me, ____," he stood in front of you, gently pinching your face, "Am I in trouble?"
When his hands came into contact with your face, you couldn't help the rack of chills flowing through your body, feeling as if you were drenched in a bucket of ice water.
Stepping away from his touch, you walked away to grab your cloak. "Pah! It's impossible to threaten you when you never take me seriously."
"Of course, I don't. This is the fifth time this week you've told me that, yet when you do it, you end up summoning me back not a day later. And if I didn't know any better, that makes you seem a bit friendless~" he sang, leaning back to float on the surface of a chair, giving the illusion that he was sitting down, with a wide grin.
"Why youᅳ" Your insult was cut off by the sound of knocks at your door.
"____, it's me, Mirabel. Are you ready?"
"Yeah, I'll be out in a bit," you shouted back before turning to the Sidero. "Well, since I spend so much time with the dead, I guess I'll send you home so I can be with the living," you drawled, sending the noiret a fake-sharp glare. "See you tomorrow, Sidero."
Playfully rolling his eyes, the spirit sent you a wave. "See you next time I'm summoned, chiquita." And with that, the spirit was gone.
When you opened the door, you were met with Mirabel looking over your shoulder with a puzzled expression, trying to see who you were talking to, only to find an empty space. A look of understanding came over the teen's face. If she didn't know what your gift was, she'd have thought you were insane for talking to the air.
"Let me guess, Sidero?"
"As always," you told her, walking out of the shop, shutting the door before beginning your trek towards Casa Madrigal for dinner.
Instead of walking straight through town, the two of you took the shortcut so your conversation wouldn't be interrupted.
"I didn't see you at lunch today. What was so important that you couldn't come?"
"Ah, you know, existing."
"That bad, huh?"
"Yeah," you sighed, shoulders slumping in both regret and guilt as you recalled the shrieking voice of your last client. "It's been a hectic day today."
"It couldn't have been worse than usual," the noirette stressed, not understanding why you were more worn out than usual.
"Believe me, Mira, it was one of the worst days I've ever had."
"Try me."
"I had the Castillo's as a client today."
A wince came across Mirabel's face at the name, immediately understanding who you were talking about, "Geez, I'm so sorry. You're right. You had a pretty sucky day," she said, giving you a pity pat on your shoulder.
"Yeah."
"But hey," she spoke, a bright smile growing on her lips. "If it makes you feel any better, I asked mamá to save you a few buñuelos once I realized you weren't coming for lunch."
You swiveled around to face her, gripping her by the shoulders with sparkling eyes. "Mira, I will literally kill for you."
"No need for that, ____," she giggled as the two of you walked up towards the large mansion.
Before either of you could even think of opening the door, Casita was, as always, a step ahead.
"Thank you, Casita," you both replied to the happy house, laughing as the tiles beneath your feet created eccentric shapes and colors.
As you and Mirabel were about to turn the corner towards the dining room, Julieta came out of the kitchen with a tray of tamales in her hand.
"Mamá, let me help you with that."
"Thank you, Cosa linda," the noirette smiled as Mirabel took the tray from her.
As Mirabel was off taking the food to the dining room, Julieta turned to face you and said, "Can you help me with the remaining dishes?"
"Of course, Señora Julieta." With that, you followed the graying-noirette into the kitchen.
The fragrance of delicious food was the first thing that hit your nose when you walked in behind the healer.
Immediately, your eyes zoned onto tonight's dessert: a tray of Merengón de Fresas.
Your mouth practically watered at how delicious it looked, how juicy and sweet the strawberries, peaches, and mora looked sitting on top of the bed of fluffy whipped cream.
Seeing your distracted gaze, Julieta shook her head with a smile as she handed you a pot of arroz atollado. "So did you enjoy the buñuelos? I decided to try something new and added a pinch of cacao powder. I hope they turned out well enough."
It took a moment before you were able to register what was said to you, "Eh? I didn't get any buñuelos. Mirabel said that you saved me some because I missed lunch," you told her as you both walked out of the kitchen towards the dining room.
A puzzled expression quickly filled out on Julieta's face at your words. "I did. That's why when I saw you walking down the hall earlier, I asked if you'd want them now and you took them."
"Señora Julieta, you must be mistaken. I haven't been here since this morning. Plus, I couldn't have done that. I just came in with Mirabel."
The two of you were left in silence before looking at one another, understanding immediately filling your minds. "Camilo," you both sighed in unison.
That trickster should have been the first thing to come to mind when Julieta asked if you enjoyed the buñuelos, yet he wasn't because of your distracted nature.
You couldn't believe he'd do that to you!
Well, actually, you could, but still, he committed identity fraud to hurt you in the worst way possible: to steal your buñuelos!
Oh, the horror!
You haven't had them in weeks due to both your absence as well as Julieta's rule to make a dessert once a week, and that devil went and stole it from you.
Seeing the waves of sadness flowing off your form as you pouted over the loss of your desert, Julieta gave you a gentle nudge with her hip, "Don't be too upset, linda. If it makes you feel any better, I'll whip you up a few buñuelos and personally deliver them to you tomorrow, alright?"
Feeling a smidge better, you gave the older woman a small smile as well as a "Thank you," before walking into the dining room.
Everyone wasn't present at the moment, the only ones there helping set up being Mirabel, Agustín, Julieta, Dolores, and yourself.
Agustín was the first to notice your arrival, getting up to grab the pot out of your hands, allowing you to go over and set plates on the table with Mirabel.
After getting everything together, the others began trickling in, the only ones absent being Camilo and Alma.
"Mira, I never knew I could kill a man until Camilo came into my life," the words left your lips, eyes narrowing at the empty seat before you as you sat next to your best friend.
"Huh? What did he do?" The girl wondered, turning towards you with a puzzled face.
At her question, you couldn't help the scowl that grew on your lips. "That tramposo pretended to be me and ate the buñuelos Señora Julieta saved for me."
"Wow, really?"
"Yeah. I swear, he has it out for me. Out of everything he could have done, he had to do that."
Mirabel hummed, "I suppose, but you can't blame him. It was you who missed lunch, after all. You'd think that since you love mamá's buñuelos so much, you wouldn't miss it for the world."
"Yeah—wait, what?" You were taken back by her words; she was siding with Camilo!?
When had she ever, in your twelve years of friendship, sided with that trickster!?
Besides, she was the one who told Julieta to save you a few pastries!
"Mira, whatㅡ?" Before you could finish your question, Alma and Mirabel walked into the room.
It was at the moment that you saw her enter with the matriarch that you knew you'd been duped for the second time today.
Releasing a sigh, you turned to face 'Mirabel' only to find Camilo already staring at you with a wicked grin. "Hello, ____. I heard you had some interesting things to say about me. Care to reveal them? I'm all ears."
You wanted to scream right then and there. Why, on Santa Muerte, couldn't you realize that it was Camilo? And how come the rest of them didn't tell you it was him? They obviously knew, seeing as they showed no reaction when the real Mirabel walked in with Alma. You couldn't help but feel that they wanted you to fail and continue to be deceived by him.
"Camilo," you started with a false smile, "If you don't move, I will ask Antonio to put his animals on you again."
You both knew that it wasn't an empty threat; a couple of weeks ago, you got Antonio to put a few of his pets on Camilo due to him aggravating you, and you were pleasantly surprised to find that they knew where Camilo was no matter how he looked because his scent always stayed the same.
Camilo must have realized that you were serious because he stood up, allowing Mirabel to sit in her seat, but not without leaving with a cheeky last word. "If it makes you feel any better, they were delicious. Tía Julieta really outdone herself with that batch."
You just stayed silent, allowing your eye to twitch out your frustration as he happily whistled as he sat before you, winking before beginning to dive into the food.
"Don't let him get to you, ____. He just enjoys getting a rise out of you," Mirabel said, handing you the salad bowl.
"Yeah, yeah. I know," you muttered, fixing your plate and eating like everyone else.
Besides the usual trickery from Camilo, dinner was exquisite; you couldn't believe you willingly missed two weeks of Julieta's delicious food just because of work; never again.
As everyone was finishing up, Alma stood up to give the evening family meeting.
"As we all know, Día de Muertos will be arriving in less than a few weeks, so we have much to prepare." Her voice was soft yet strict, easily capturing the attention of everyone at the table. "And since the celebration allows our deceased loved ones to come back to visit us, I believe it would be best if you, ____, took control and plan the ceremony this year."
Your eyes bulged out of your skull, choking on your water in surprise at her words. "W-What? Me?"
"Yes, cariño, you."
"B-But shouldn't it be planned by you, Doña Alma? You've done it for so long."
Don't get it wrong, you were honored to be chosen to be in charge of something that suited your gift, but she wanted the entire ceremony to be planned by you!?
"Yes, but seeing as what your gift entails, I, as well as many others, agree that you are perfect for the task. Unless, of course, you feel that you aren't ready?"
She was right; it's only natural that someone of your lineage is in charge of an event related to spirits crossing over to the living and visiting loved ones.
Hosting such a big event like this reminds you of the stories your mother would tell you; stories depicting the ceremonies the women of your family bestowed on the people around them, allowing them the opportunity to showcase their gifts from your goddess.
"No...I would like to do it," you said, looking up to make eye contact with the matriarch.
A grandmotherly smile filled out Alma's face. "Well, in that case, it is settled. ____ will be in charge of planning the upcoming celebration. Let's make it everyone's priority to assist her with whatever she needs. La Familia Madrigal!"
"La Familia Madrigal!" And with that, dinner was dismissed.

A/N: I didn't necessarily know where to end the chapter, so please forgive the need for dragging it on. I hope you enjoyed the extra info I dumped on you all regarding Y/Ma's family history, as well as my OC!
I've also been getting messages about when I'll update, and I'm sorry to say that I'm unsure. I try writing whenever I can but it isn't always guaranteed every three days due to school and tons of work. So I'll try to update often, but I can't be too sure; hope you all understand.
Anyways, see you next update.

Hey this has been a thought bouncing round my head. Thought I’d crack it open and ask so;
What are your thoughts on a modern version of TETS and TEDAD (The Embers Dim and Die sorry lmao)
Would that ruin the outline of the story or would it just be a particular challenge on doing more research.
Because say it’s modern and they still have their gifts. Would that change a lot of the story and how it’s supposed to be?
Anyways just a thought— love your writing 😁.
Tumblr media
This is a great question! I've actually got a number of different modern AU plots floating around, so I've definitely got some thoughts on how something like that would play out!
Usually in these modern AUs they're still set in the town of the Encanto and the Madrigals still have their powers, everything's just been modernized to fit into a 21st century time period: phones, cars, internet, all that. The Madrigals still use their Gifts in helpful ways, though many of them have jobs or hustles on the side - Julieta volunteers in the nearby hospital, the dads have proper jobs, some of the grandkids have internet followings, etc.
Modern!Mateo, meanwhile, is kind of considered a different entity from canon!Mateo, as his motivations aren't as... "profound" as they are in the stories, though there's still an element of obsession and believing Camilo to be his perfect match. In a present-day setting it wouldn't be nearly so easy as for Mateo to do what he does without being noticed - so he's forced to handle things in a more modern way.
There are officially 4 variations of a modern TEtS/AtEDaD storyline that have been drafted within the discord server, with 4.0 more or less being declared the "official" one. They share a lot of the same story beats so there's a lot of repeated elements. Note that these outlines may contain upsetting contents, please read with caution. I've put the descriptions under a readmore for this reason:
1.0 is more or less the very first TEtS AU to exist so it's not as polished, but the gist is that Mateo is a college student Camilo meets while crashing a college party. After a period of befriending, manipulation, and isolation, Mateo tricks Camilo into traveling with him to a motel in the middle of nowhere. However, Dolores was able to hear him leave, and follows them in her own vehicle to thwart the worst from happening. She is able to rescue him and have Mateo arrested, with them returning home battered but safe.
2.0 also sees Mateo as a college-aged friend, though Mateo's approach this time is much more sinister and violent. He uses party drugs to render Camilo unconscious, and films himself doing inappropriate things while he's incapacitated. This goes on until Camilo finds the recordings, horrified by their contents, leading Mateo to outright abduct Camilo to a derelict house off the highway. This AU is the first in which Tomás is an important player; this time he's the one to spot Mateo in a bar as an alert of the kidnapping is broadcast to his phone, so he's able to follow him and help free Camilo while his family catches up. This is the one time Mateo's actually taken out by one of Pepa's lightning strikes!
3.0 was born from an offhand comparison to a character from Life is Strange, and as such is the first depiction of Mateo being Camilo's high school photography teacher, living on his own in a small apartment in a nearby city. He gains Camilo's trust by being the "cool teacher," letting him skip class and hang out in his room, taking him out to do fun things, and eventually asking him to be his private model. This route also involves the use of drugs, primarily for Mateo to pose Camilo in certain ways, but the "sleeping spells" cause Camilo trouble at home when his parents have him tested and it's discovered he's got drugs in his system. Unfortunately they assume he's been partying and the rift between them only pushes Camilo further towards Mateo. This one doesn't actually have an ending, but it ended off with Camilo again discovering Mateo's been the one drugging him and trying to escape, allowing Dolores to hear him and try to help.
4.0 also sees Mateo as Camilo's teacher, but it harkens back to the first variant where Mateo takes Camilo to a motel after gaining his trust and isolating him from his friends and family. Unfortunately things go terribly wrong for Camilo here, and when he's returned home he's withdrawn, irritable, and even more divided from his family who aren't too happy with him going on a roadtrip without permission. We've played with a few different resolutions to this one, with Camilo finally opening up to a number of candidates, but the first and favorite scenario was having him open up to Agustín in the middle of the night as a parallel to TEtS Chapter 4. Mateo is again arrested and Camilo's able to sleep a little easier at night.

Encanto 2023 Day 17: Home
The anniversary of the Madrigal’s Miracle was both a celebration and a tough time for the family. On one hand, it was the triplets’ birthday and the anniversary of the magic that brought them their Casita in the first place. On the other hand, it was also the anniversary of their father’s death. It was the hardest day of the year for Alma in particular, because not only are her children getting older, but she was also reminded of the loss of her husband.
On the day of the triplets’ fifty-first birthday, Casita transformed its courtyard into a mini-theatre for the children to put on a variety show they were planning throughout the day. While they did so, Alma took the triplets out for lunch and to go shopping to make sure it was kept a surprise. While they were out, Julieta and Pepa found a little perfume shop in the village square that had all different kinds of scents to sample.
“What do you think about this? The bottle itself looks nice and I can smell a bit of a mint scent to it,” Julieta explained as she gave the bottle to Pepa.
“I love this mint one. It reminds me of whenever Casita changes its scent during the Christmas season to match the mood,” Pepa replied.
Bruno walked over to his sisters to see what they were smelling. “Are there any other scents they may have?” he asked.
“How about this one? I know perfumes tend to be too strong for you, but I think this one is a little bit milder,” Julieta said as she handed Bruno a citrus-scented perfume bottle.
“I like this one! Not only that citrus is my favorite scent, but it also reminds me of that time Casita made itself smell like citrus at the beginning of summer, that one time when we were kids to remind mama of the smell of her hometown in the summer.”
Pepa then picked up a vanilla-scented perfume bottle. “What about this one? You know how much I love vanilla scents!”
“Casita even makes itself smell like vanilla sometimes during the Christmas season, along with the mint scent,” Julieta pointed out.
“Maybe we should ask mama what her favorite scent Casita produces is,” said Bruno.
The triplets found their mother by the fabrics, trying to find one to make a dress out of for Luisa’s twentieth birthday next month. She turned around and saw her triplets running up to her excitedly, while also smelling a small combination of the scents they were smelling at the perfume shop.
“Hola, mijos! Are you ready to head over to have lunch?”
“Si, but we also wanted to ask you something while we walked to the cafe,” Julieta said.
Alma and the triplets began walking over to their favorite cafe Alma used to take them when they were children. Alma even took her grandchildren there several times a year and would go as a family often. The Madrigals have gone so often that the owner and his family became great friends with the Madrigals.
“Mama, we want to know, what’s your favorite scent that Casita makes? We were messing with a few perfume bottles in the shop and we were curious,” Pepa asked.
“That’s a great question; I love all the scents that Casita brings to us over every holiday, but my absolute favorite is the apple-cinnamon scent that Casita brings when autumn starts,” Alma explained to the triplets.
“I think that one’s my favorite, too,” Julieta replied.
“As much as vanilla is my favorite scent, I think the apple-cinnamon scent is my second favorite since that’s usually Casita’s signal for us that the autumn season is starting,” Pepa explained.
“Same here,” said Bruno.
“Do you ever wonder if Casita can make a birthday cake scent on any of our birthdays? I don’t think it has ever done that before,” said Julieta.
“I don’t know, maybe it might do that today. We’ll see,” Alma replied.
Once Alma and the triplets got to the cafe, the current owner walked up to Alma and gave her a hug. “Hola, Alma! How have you been?”
“I’ve been great, Mateo, gracias.”
“And I understand it’s your childrens’ birthday today? Feliz cumpleanos, Julieta, Pepa, and Bruno!”
“Gracias, Mateo,” the triplets said simultaneously.
“I see you’re going to be fifty this year?”
“Fifty-one; and I’m taking them here today because my grandkids are planning something extremely special for them when we get home later this afternoon, since this is their first birthday together again in ten years,” Alma explained.
“That is amazing! I’ll get you seated right away.” Mateo took out four menus for them and led Alma and the triplets to their seats outside the cafe. “I’ll get your server.”
Once Mateo walked into the cafe, Alma and the triplets decided to continue their conversation about Casita’s scents. “Not only that the apple-cinnamon scent is the sign of the autumn season starting, but probably smells the most homey to me,” Alma explained.
“I think any autumn-related scent smells homey to me,” Bruno replied.
Alma and the triplets continued their conversation throughout the lunch and spent some more time in the village square for a couple more hours before it was time to go home. Once they got back to Casita’s front door, it was locked. Casita purposefully locked the door to make sure they did not come in until everything was set up. Once Casita unlocked itself, Alma opened the door to see the courtyard transformed into a mini theatre, and the children on the stage, Felix and Agustin at a table on the side of the stage with the cake they made together, and most of the village in the audience.
“SURPRISE!!” the children, Agustin, Felix, and the villagers yelled once they saw the triplets walk inside.
The triplets cried in shock once they saw how Casita transformed itself. They even smelled the birthday cake scent that they were talking about in the village with their mother earlier that day. Did they predict this? Or did Casita just want to do something special since this was their first birthday in ten years with Bruno again.
“Mama, did you plan to have Casita smell like a birthday cake today?” Julieta asked.
“Don’t look at me, I wasn’t involved in the planning of any of this,” Alma answered.
The triplets walked to the front of the courtyard to see three empty seats with papers on them that each say “RESERVED FOR THE BIRTHDAY BOY/GIRL” on them. They removed the papers and sat down in the seats. Felix and Agustin walked from the cake table and found their seats next to their wives.
“Do you like what we planned?” Felix asked.
“You planned this?” Pepa asked.
“We just planned to have Casita smell like a birthday cake. The kids planned everything else,” Agustin explained.
“We love it; we know we’re truly home when we’re with you,” said Julieta.

LTRL AU | A Warped Perception
Tumblr media
The weather was not bright as Sara headed down towards her friend’s cafe, nor was it down pouring which was an ever-present reminder of what mood their resident weather witch was in. She had heard what happened; Isabela Madrigal getting mauled by her cousin’s jaguar by her other cousin. It was a shame it went for her arm, not her neck or skull like a typical attack that jaguars were well renowned for.
With Isabela dead, there would be little of their…conflicts of family history to remain and only in distant memory that would fade. She wanted that because then things could return to a semblance of controllable normality.
Sara Marquez didn’t like a lapse in control. Sure, she wasn’t fond of the tile of being a ‘control freak’ but it was a tile she decided to wear like a crown. Her mother had always used to say that control meant their family would be safe. Safe from what, Sara hadn’t understood until her mother’s death. But it came clear.
Safe from bad rumors, safe from those who would judge them for what would ruin their family and work. Her father had a good last name; worthy of passing down. Her mother had such a common name that she had been glad to drop it in favor of her husbands as soon as they could. Her family's reputation was everything. Her family’s work in carpentry had meant, as a woman she couldn’t be taken seriously. A small shop was good enough and booming since the Madrigal’s disgrace opened up her window of opportunity for work. Sara had little patience with the sexist roles but she knew to play the part to keep the family in check and under the radar.
Mateo, her dear brother had been a nuisance in keeping the family in good graces; his skills did surpass their father but… he didn’t work well with her. But, her ‘lessons’ were with good intent. He was a man and take those lessons with a high head. He’d learn, sooner or later.
Why did he have to go to the only woman she couldn’t get to see her way of things? He was supposed to marry the doctor’s granddaughter, the less bitchy one so then their family name could pass on to a fresh generation with two distinct family occupations that were highly demanded. Valentina Lopez would have been the perfect bride for him. Young enough—despite being close enough in age— to search for guidance in her but old enough to bed and birth healthily. She wanted a baby to coddle and to craft without having to go through the entire pregnancy herself.
Mateo should have kept to what was expected of him. Not to go gallivanting off with the Madrigal psycho with his balls out. for her spread legs. Disgraceful of their family name and…humiliating.
Sara knew…she had probably got a little more excessive than usual in her rage. She didn’t quite remember what happened but she knew she had left him alive because she wasn’t going to do what her father did to her mother. She had more restraint than he did. She prided herself on that.
The fact he had run away…
That was where the delicate worry came in for the last week and a bit. He was not supposed to get up and go running; her encouragement would be misunderstood by the wrong people. She was helping him. So what if there was some bruises; Mateo learned eventually. Mother’s touch were never soft on her but she had learned far more quickly than he ever could. Things hurt, but you learn from pain. She understood that well to know that…she was not the bad guy here but he would certainly spin that tale.
But, she had purposely kept a good relationship with most people so they didn’t think the worse. How could that they? She was polite, gave favors, and was a good person. Sara knew she was the only good one out of her family. Her father was the murderer, not her. It was a tale she desperately wanted to tell but… it kept him in line with what was expected in their family. Opium poppy from her garden served well in extremely light doses to help. He was hooked so, she didn’t have to worry too much about him killing her this time.
Her brother was weak but he could paint his own pictures how he wanted; she’d not allow that to spread too far. She was excellent at damage control after all.
When that night had happened, Sara had expected a bunch of people coming to her door that swiftly; she had expected accusations to the thrown but she had cleaned away anything that could be misinterpreted as ‘wrong’ the moment she realized he was gone so they would look bad at such an accusation. She could cry and weep; she knew a good routine to soften those thorns.
But…no one came.
No one even knew.
Sara hadn’t predicted that.
It made her nervous in a way that she didn’t like, so she made sure to keep her tabs out and make new friends and opened up new favors in the nearly two weeks that followed.
Like Pepa Madrigal.
She had built a good rapport with the weather witch in the last week but it was necessary. Taking the time to go out to the fields with a fresh pot of tea or nice compliments and even a gift or two had made the woman literally beam with her thoughtfulness but she knew to mind carefully the rest of the Madrigals. None of them knew of her kindling friendship with the older woman and she intended to keep it that way. But, she knew to nurture those bonds well to be useful.
It was enough of an indication her nurture was working when she saw Pepa at the same café, with a cup of coffee and a cloud over her head which seemed to brighten as she was noticed, changing her route to meet at her table.
“Is everything okay?” Sara asked, finally reaching the redhead with a concerned smile. “I heard about what happened, is Camilo okay?”
Pepa nodded, “He’s…shaken.” She admitted, a worrying cloud dancing over her head which Sara was gleeful for. So much easier to know how to get her talking by her non-verbal responses. She knew a lot and this…this was just an added bonus.
“Of course he was. Everything happening at once, he’s probably really confused about what happened as well.” Sara sighed, “At least…he’s okay. I hope he’s not too badly punished when it’s not his fault.”
Pepa shook her head. “My and…Felix are at odds about it.”
“Oh?” Sara clipped her fingers to get served, nodding her thanks as Valerie behind the counter knew her typical order. “Well, I suppose he’s just...seeing one side of it. Isabela’s side no doubt, not yours.”
Pepa gave a noncommittal hum as she sipped her coffee. “I’m trying to tell him of our side; what we should be seeing.”
“Camilo defending himself from what he thought was an attack. It’s a very valid reason in the heat of panic.” Sara clarified, reaching over and patting Pepa’s arm softly, “You’re a good mother if you’re fighting for what needs to be fought for. Your son. Your son thought he could have died.”
“I know!” Pepa took a calming breath. “I don’t… I don’t want Camilo to…distance himself. He needs to know his family is there.”
“What of his family is there for him? You, of course.” Sara leaned back, happily accepting her tea with a word of thanks and a smile. “His siblings must be.”
“No. Dolores is… distancing herself. We’re working on her but… I’m still furious Felix didn’t ask my permission on allowing her to move out—”
Sara gasped lightly, “He even didn’t ask you? You’re her mother. You have just as much say as he does?”
Pepa scoffed, “You’d think but… well, I suppose it’s nothing I can hold too much onto. I’m not mad Dolores wants time for herself but…I should have had a say.” Her clouds thundered a little in annoyance.
“I suppose… given what’s happened, it’s thrown everyone through the loop. Maybe you should wait and try and get an apology from him for going behind your back at the very least; so he knows not to do it again.” Plus, she doubted Señor Madrigal would know to do that; it could be enough to keep the happy couple at odds enough for Pepa to come to her for their little…talks.
Pepa shook her head. “I’ll get over it…”
Shame. Still, Sara didn’t give up so easily. “How is your youngest handling this?”
The cloud darkened a little. A negative emotion. A furry of wind seemed to…be uncertain though there was a definite tinge to the cloud color that seemed almost like fog. Sara wondered if the fog meant something.
“He’s on…Isa’s side.” The fog rolled freely, almost like a mask around the clouds. The lack of much more seemed to suggest she wasn’t going to explain. Like she was hiding something.
The weather really said a lot now, didn’t it?
“How are you, by the way?” Pepa coughed, changing the topic. The fog faded away with something brighter. Forcefully brighter.
“Tried. Worried” Sara permitted herself to speak. “I… I’m still embarrassed about what happened last week…between our family members.”
“Ah.” Pepa winced. “I’m sure it won’t happen again.” There was that fog again, small and fluttering.
“I know. I..— My brother’s been a bit absent, I think he’s taken some time to camp so he won’t be around Encanto for a bit to avoid the gossip. Lucky him” Sara rolled her eyes, his absences easy to explain away. He always had that… 'history’ so no one, at least in their area of town would question it. “I still can’t believe what he did…before marriage.” Her cheeks flooded with color. “I’m…so sorry about what happened, Señora Madrigal.”
Pepa shrugged, “in light of everything, it’s not the worst thing that’s happened. And… well it’s not your fault. You had just as much of an inclination as I did about it.”
There was some relief in the woman’s ignorance. Clearly, flowerhead inhaled too much of her pollen to think she could keep the whole thing going in secrete. Damn, Mateo for succumbing to his manly desires. If it hadn’t been for the fact she lacked any desire to procreate herself and thus, relied on him for carrying on the family bloodline, she certainly would have given him a lesson to his joy department for his… misdemeanor.
Sara wanted to continue, but she could see the lumbering form of the strong girl in the distance, carrying a stack of logs with care—god forbid if she drops it on someone—so, she knew to bid her farewell before she was seen. She knew better than to get into an argument with someone who could benchpress a damn building.
“I have to go, if you need to talk, I’ll be watering my flowers out back of the shop.” Sara drained her hot cup of tea though left to pay for both drinks for more goodwill and left without a word, hoping she hadn’t burned her esophagus too badly.
  -
Three days, there was little change in her routine, but people asking for Mateo hadn't ceased which began to unsettle her. Señora Rojas hadn’t come by again, but she could see the woman looking at her with discontent and distrust in passing.
Even Alma Madrigal had even paid a visit asking for him.
Asking for Mateo now, Sara knew they were trying to catch her out or thought she was involved with his absence; she wasn’t and she certainly didn’t plan to make them suspicious of her. Though, she had to say, she had tried to be delightful in her interactions with her. Señora Madrigal was tense, which wasn’t much of a difference to what she was used to seeing. Señora Madrigal’s natural demeanor was always being uptight as if she had a stick wedged up her rear constantly, but she was glad to see her warm up to her as they talked, even accepting her gift of white tulips for her family.
It wasn’t just the Madrigals now.
Other people in town seemed to visit her father at the workshop with commissions. He knew the lie to give but it didn’t satisfy a good few.
She hated how the loss of a few customers seemed to reflect their…belief she was solely responsible for his absence. Passing it off as boys doing boy-things wasn’t lasting long but… she hated now she had to try and look for him without being too suspicious since she had supposed last seen him.
He could only be gone for so long before ears demanded more to his lack of work to the town. She hadn’t raised the alarm but…maybe she had to raise it first before someone else did?
Sara continue to mull anxiously, continuing her late-night shopping which needed doing. Things got a little cheaper at night-- fresh food wise at the least. Fewer customers meant she had to be a little more careful with her spending until the issue blew over. The fact she had a lesser mouth to feed helped.
Her eyes caught a moving figure, her heart leaping in her chest.
Isabela Madrigal.
Alone.
Sara dropped her basket gently to the floor, with a passing word she’d be back, and hurried after her. A golden opportunity like this did not rise open not at this time with less judgemental eyes on her
“Isabela!” Sara cringed a little but the girl’s pace picked up. Sara could see the girl didn’t want to talk to her; which was n indication…. Did she know something? Her pace picked up after her. She was good at telling when someone was lying; if this woman knew where he was; the better.
Isabela’s voice echoed behind her. “Leave me alone, Marquez”
“Where’s my brother? You got him stashed anywhere?” She tried to sound concerned; like the flower-head was still bedding him. Could it be possible he was hiding away in freak house? It made it plausible given the…nature of the house. If Isabela and Mateo had been fucking in that house, it made sense he’d run there… but she knew the family didn’t know where he was; why ask about him if they knew where he was? Maybe only Isabela knew?
If only she had a way to get into the house…maybe a special event? Sara couldn’t help but think of her options for what would be coming up. Barely into January as it was; not a lot of options.
“Isabela, please. I need to find him.” Her words didn’t seem to register so Sara took her chance as she got close enough to grab the girl’s arm; not seeing which it was before she felt the slight warmth on her fingers as she pulled her back before suddenly she saw the girl’s fist before she felt the hot spurt of pain rage through her face and into her skill. Familiar pain.
“Oh, you fucking bitch!” Sara roared falling back, unable to help her temper through the pain that teared her eyes up, her hands coming to her face as blood seemed to splatter down the front of her white blouse—this was a new shirt!! “You broke my nose?!” She gasped like a fish for breath through her mouth.
“Don’t fucking touch me without my consent!” Flower-head hissed loudly and then stormed off but Sara could barely breathe to keep track, her vision blurring and she could feel the hot droplets of blood raining into her palm before she felt a touch on her arm.
“Are you okay?”
Sara wanted to shake her head. “T-Tissue, please.” Thankfully, one was provided though with a groan, she press it to her face to soak up the blood. “T-Thank you.” She blinked the tears free to see it was Señora Florence Guzman, Tia of Mariano Guzman.
A kind soul. Wonderful.
“What…was that all about?” With a kind hand, Señora Guzman helped her up straight, though kept a guiding hand to her elbow. “Why did you grab her?”
“I—I’m worried that…my brother isn’t…camping.” She panted softly. “I thought he said he was but…haven’t spoken to-to him and…he was caught in bed with her a few weeks back…” She squeezed her eyes shut, “I..Thought he was…with her still.”
“Sara, I… why don’t I take you to Julieta. I’m sure we can get your nose sorted first—“
“No—I’m barred from their aid.” Unfortunately, but that was a mistake she hoped to settle but… not soon it seemed after 8 months. She really should have thought ahead but seeing Mateo talk to Isa first had lit a fire in her gut she hadn’t been able to squash. A lesson learned. “I…I’ll be fine. I need…need to get home.” She could fix herself up there. Talk to the doctors tomorrow.
This was only a small hiccup. Isabela would tell her tale but she’d make sure to see to her side of things to the town. After all, she was far more beloved in this town than the one who tried to murder her sister with her magical, freaky ability. She was normal and…maybe she could talk to weather witch into getting her Madrigal help to find him? Soften them up more to her.
“Are you sure?”
With a nod and a painful hiss, Sara bid her way, grabbed her basket, and fled to the sanctity of her home.
