Hi honey! Welcome to the fandom! 💞

Ooff yes, I can absolutely imagine that you feel a little overwhelmed considering how many fics there are for this fandom 🙈 I don't personally have experience with reading fic for smaller fandoms though, except maybe for Evanstan. There are far, far fewer Evanstan than Stucky fics out there, and I would say that my Evanstan to Stucky reading ratio is like 2/98. So when it comes to Evanstan, it should be much less overwhelming! But if you'd like a good place to start, please check out some of these fics, as well as perhaps my own work <3

As for Stucky: there are currently 63,505 works on AO3, so yes, that's a lot 😅

I've made a lot of fic rec posts over the years, including some for people who, like you, were looking for a good introduction to the ship. Here, you'll find links to classic pre-war Stucky fics, and here is a list of some of my personal faves, and here is an additional list of some fandom classics. I think these are a great place to start for someone who's new to the fandom!

Or, if you'd prefer to find your own way from the start like I did: when I started reading Stucky fics, I just sorted them by kudos (highest to lowest), and then scrolled the first few pages of hits until I saw something that seemed like something I'd enjoy! So I would recommend just picking something with lots and lots of kudos that sounds good to you, and then doing that a few more times until you have a clearer idea of the kind of stories you like to read best in this fandom (canon universe or alternate universe, all romance or action packed, enemies to lovers or established relationship, pre-war or post-TWS etc.). Also, please keep in mind that the amount of kudos doesn't always necessarily correspond to the quality of the fic - there are so many incredible fics out there that don't have even a fraction of the kudos some of the more popular fics have, even though imo they're (imo) better! So if something looks good, but it doesn't have that many kudos, just give it a try anyway. You'll most likely discover some of your favourite fics that way! I read both long and short fics, depending on my mood and how much time I have. Both have their merit <3

And then once you know what you like to read, you can use AO3s tag filtering system to find fics that are more specifically tailored to your interests. Another good way to find great fics is by looking at what other Stucky fics the author of a fic you enjoyed has written (or check out their bookmarks!) or use the Stucky Library categories to find stories for specific tropes. They don't update anymore, but there are lots of brilliant older fics to be found that way. As for newer fics, the way I come across those is mostly by following other Stucky/author blogs here on tumblr, who'll post and reblog their own and other people's newer fics.

Most importantly: enjoy, and take your time! These fics aren't going anywhere (though do download your favourites if you think you might like to reread them someday, as sometimes authors delete their works and there's nothing worse than losing a fave </3). And remember that with a fandom this big, you can afford to be picky. So if you start reading something and you're like 'hmm no, I don't actually like this after all', then just move on and find something else to read instead. Not everything is for everyone, and I've been reading fic for this pairing for 5 years now, and I'm still finding new treasures!

Hey. It’s me. Sunlit Garden on AO3. If you would like to find a bughead fic, beta, be long-term groomed with positive feedback and helpfulness, then have your self-confidence chipped away, be isolated from other support systems, be negged, insulted, and emotionally harassed/toyed with to output to her idea of perfection -- or find someone who did this to others and will most likely weasel their way into doing it again -- I recommend none other than jandjsalmon, the gal who runs theblueandgoldoffice - a handy fic-finding website.

I made a prior post about my personal experience but apparently not everyone knew it was her because I didn’t name her specifically. Hopefully, this is the last post I’ll ever make about her. A lot of wonderful people reached out with similar experiences or sympathy but I’ve also seen some continue to interact with her or rec her as someone to follow. Now, I’m putting it in the tags. Her name is out there. If I see her on rec lists, at least I know the info is out there that she abused me and others and whoever posted didn’t want to deal with having to deal with her bullshit of her harassing them or they think I’m a liar. I have nothing to lose in this fandom or to gain by outing her. I’m doing it because I don’t want her to be introduced to new waves of authors/readers/people will trust her without protecting themselves or doing something to protect others. Unfortunately, me and the victims I talked to did not feel comfortable sharing how much she hurt us with each other until she’d done a fair amount of damage, and we were all trying to make it work with her until we hit a breaking point.

As a reminder... this is just a potential scenario based on past experience.

If you do become mutuals, and she thinks you have an ounce of fandom fame or MIGHT post things she likes if she bugs you enough, she might make you aesthetics, reblog, comment, buddy up to your friends to get closer to you, find out and exploit your insecurities or mental illness, notably withdraw support to prove a point if you like something she doesn’t or even show love for another person who doesn’t love her, keep records of your convos, show them to other people, vague post about you (sometimes even going so far as to message you without you even asking to make sure you know ‘oh it wasn’t about you’ to rub salt in that wound), let her husband talk shit about and to you even when on good terms with her, and try to get involved in your personal life to be your (only) best friend and support system... only to tell you you are nothing without her, people rely on her for recs and she can turn the tides on fandom favorites, you should not write original works because original romance is “disgusting” YA is “immature” and no one likes your work and your mind is too fucked up to be productive without her. No one will love you or have time for you like her.

She will insist you include scenes even if you don’t want them there, then try to claim she helped write your fic in the comments of it when all she did was tell you to add something you already wrote and deleted back in, though she did comment on the doc and talk through your million ideas and pick her favorite OF YOUR OWN IDEAS and help with grammar. She will also tell you at least one of your fics is disgusting and berate you to the point of not wanting to post it, especially if it shows Betty even slightly interested in someone besides Jughead at some point in her life, claiming “that’s not her!” but OOC or Jughead with past/current partners is no problem... and she will be very apologetic to have to tell you and make you feel bad, but brag in DMs of her friends that she “made you change your mind” and “taught you how to think” if you eventually cave and adjust something. Conversations become drags where you agree with what she says just to avoid confrontations and meltdowns sometimes.

If you talk to her and try to rebuild your friendship or set boundaries, she will either lash out or apologize and be good for a few days until she can find a reason to turn on you again. When you distance yourself for protection or make new friends, she will harass you in DMs asking why you unfollowed (even if it’s a tumblr glitch) or followed so and so, why you did or didn’t like something, tell you how awful everyone except her is, and try to get you to talk shit about your own friends when you know she’s talking shit about you, too.

Oh and if you compliment her on something you’re considered good at that she’s insecure about (prompted or unprompted), be prepared to be called a fake liar and a judgmental bitch in general for having an opinion -- yes, even if it’s positive, so imagine how fun it was to disagree on something neither of us even made.

She is not a neutral party when it comes to abuse and harassments either. Despite being very anti-cheating, she stoutly defends the Sprouse brothers despite multiple women and outlets coming forward claiming they cheated on or abused their partners, claiming the sources are “crazy” or “jealous” or “unprofessional.” I have some pretty ironic in retrospect screenshots someone sent me of some of her rants but I won’t post them publicly here. What Jandy told me of her former victims was that they blocked her for no reason. She was nothing but supportive of them and they got too big for their britches and had other friends and abandoned her. I’m sure she says similar if not worse things about me for calling her out and cutting her off.

So yeah, it will be uncomfortable to unfollow, ghost, and/or block her. It might even be inconvenient because of the service she provides to this fandom. But please keep in mind that even the slight fear/dread of her shadow-banning or harassing you is a sign that she’s affected you, too.

If you really miss that one extra comment per chapter, hit me up. I’ve got a lot going on but I’ll make an exception for people who need that extra support as long as I can. For additional support, please see local and online organizations to talk to a professional or volunteer trained to help with emotional abuse, toxicity, depressive, or anxious thoughts like therealdepressionproject. HASTY UPDATE

Alright, we knew it was coming Darlings, I’d just hoped that it wouldn’t come so soon, and that I’d be a little closer to my goal when it did.

My laptop is officially failing to respond.

Unlike usual, I can’t even get it to make a peep, it’s just not reacting to anything at all. And yes I’ve checked the battery and the cord, both are fine, it’s just the laptop itself that’s gone dead. I’m genuinely lost for what to do to try and get it working again.

That said, I’m going to try again tomorrow and hope that it has a little life left in it, but it’s really not looking good. I’m also going to try and hunt down my old wireless keyboard and see if I can connect it to my phone somehow. If I can, I’ll see if I can use the desktop version of tumblr on my phone, and make prompts that way.

I promise this isn’t the end of things, I will find a way around this so that I can still give you content, I just have to figure out the best way to do so first. Please be patient with me, I’m just as frustrated about this as you are, if not more so, since I put so much of my time and energy into this blog.

If I can find my ko-fi post on my phone, I’ll reblog it again after this, but other than that, the only thing I can do is set the queue up for only posting once a day, until I’ve found some way around this.

So if you see any QUEUE ERROR posts, that’s why. Please try not to respond to them if you can, I will be deleting them eventually.

Requesting Lemons - PSA

Hey guys! Another PSA from yours truly, request writer for four years, going strong onto my fifth year.

After all these years, I’ve learned a lot - about writing and myself alike. Personally, I like lemon-y stuff. I always held it in high regards since it’s demanding and challenging to find the right words and fun ways to describe it, so to me, it was always a special treat. What I am trying to say, I have my experience, and I am not against lemon as a concept. In my time writing, I found out what I am comfortable with and what not, found some pet peeves and things that make me tired of being a request writer. About such a thing, I want to talk today.

It’s the requesting of explicit content. [Please note, due to Tumblr regulation, I’ll refer to it as ‘Lemon’]

After changing fandoms for the first time, it got clear really fast that my supportive first fandom was barely grazing the horniness and - bluntly said - lack of originality in many requests. I am not pointing fingers now, there are always requests that simply inspire you, no matter if they have a big story or idea behind them. It happens, it’s a spurt of imagination. So even the worst request sometimes can suddenly become the best, even if it is considered dull in comparison to others.

But what’s not okay is insisting on lemon elements in a request.

See, I don’t think that [Character] needs to fuck their significant other after, e.g., a breakdown/having dropped an apple at the market/lost someone significant to them/got hurt/and so many more.

You will think I am crazy right now, but no, those are all requests I have gotten in the past. Multiple times.

As a request writer, I feel like my requester thinks that writing lemon equals comfort. Which yes, in some cases, it does. Comfort fucking is a thing, and it’s not bad to write either. But it doesn’t replace a good hug, some advice, and a character really comforting his s/o. Personally, I think all it does is make a perfectly fine, valid request - that could have been fluffy, heartfelt, maybe funny, and comforting - unnecessarily horny.

Again, adding “Lemon please” to a request, does not make it better, is not helpful if the request has otherwise nothing to do with the lemon, and yes, many request writers don’t see a request, only an ask that will block their creativity.

So what do you do? Let me make it clear that requesting explicit content is NOT WRONG. If the writer is okay with it, nothing is stopping you, but remember one thing:

If you want to request a lemon, request a lemon. Don’t make a request and then, in the end, decide that your perfectly fine request should be lemon.

DO: “Can I request a lemon about [Character] and s/o celebrating their anniversary by doing some bed-hopping? Please, and thank you!” -> You went right to the point as to why they are fucking, gave the writer some plot to go off on. The writer now proceeds to write you an explicit story about how good their relationship feels even after a year of being together, how they still love each other so much, how [Character] can still make their s/o’s core tingle, etc.

DON’T: “Can I have a scenario of s/o breaking their leg. They are in pain, so how would [Character] help them, comfort them in this situation? Oh, lemon, please!!” -> This has nothing to do with the lemon. Why would this scenario be turning into a lemon, and how? The writer proceeds to panic, starring daggers into this request while they try to figure out what to do.

I hope this example made it more apparent as to why it sometimes is misplaced to ask for lemon. Not only that, but the request itself was good, the lemon addition is actually absolutely useless. It makes no sense, it has no core points, and simply, now the writer feels obligated to write it without the necessity or any idea how to do it.

I am almost done with this PSA, hoping it got a little bit more understandable why it is so hard to receive requests with the addition of “Lemon, please!”. But before I end it, let me explain what it also causes, aside from being unnecessary and taxing on writers.

There is no such thing as a constant income of requests. Request writers ALWAYS think twice about deleting requests, because they don’t know if they will have enough requests to keep the blog running on some point. They’d rather keep the requests, they don’t feel like they can do, in their ask box or drafts, until eventually, they can bring themselves to write them, or have to delete them with a heavy heart. No request writer WANTS to delete requests, that is not the idea, and we fear not having any because they are what a request blog is for. If we don’t get requests, it’s like a death sentence for the blog. But those requests that make us wonder how to write and what to do, are clogging not only the space they are in, but also our creativity as we want to please the requester by writing them, but just cannot find the inspiration to do it. And in the end of keeping them for months at some times, we delete them after all and are none requester wiser.

By writing a lot of lemon stuff, we are flooding fandoms. Fandoms that most of the time are 16+ and child-friendly. We can tag what we want, the possibility that someone who isn’t supposed to see them will click the ‘read more’ anyway and come into contact with it is not preventable. And we are not flooding them with the good stuff, we feed them with awkwardly written requests that didn’t have a reason to be lemon. We are telling these people that if they, e.g., break a leg, the only way to comfort them is fucking. This wouldn’t be a big thing if there were some posts, some explicit little stories. But because everyone is putting lemon on EVERYTHING, it’s EVERYWHERE. The possibility of seeing something explicit when searching for fluff is higher than finding actual fluff.

There is much more to say, but those are the most critical points that come to mind. There will always be exceptions, and I know not everyone agrees with me. But this is my experience, and more importantly, experiences from other request writers and even readers that came to me saying it isn’t really their thing to see how that interesting topic was turned into mindless fucking. Writing is not a porno, quite the opposite even. So repeat after me,

DON’T REQUEST LEMON IF YOUR REQUEST ISN’T SUPPOSED TO BE LEMON

Always remember that your request is okay as it is, and if it doesn’t need the fucking, then don’t ask for it. Alternatively, go to a blog specifically for lemon stuff, change up your request, request multiple things until you have everything you want. Support your writer and leave them some nice reviews on it, reblog their content to help spread awareness about their doings.

No offense, but I don’t see how derailing a post about the scandalous treatment many poor families are experiencing while government-affiliated companies pocket taxpayer money with a story about your mother helps anyone. I’m sure she works hard and deserves recognition, but not in the form of a “well actually” on a post about very real children who are going hungry.

Giving a poor family a fiver’s worth of food that’s not nutritious nor substantial to “feed” a hungry child for 10 days, whilst pocketing like 80% of the money, is obviously evil. It’s an insult to the people that needed, fought for and pay for the policy; the bastards who claimed good publicity (and profit) for approving FSM whilst not caring about its effectiveness in helping hungry children - just so they can exploit public money with their chums - are slimy psychopaths. Most importantly it shows a complete indifference to the suffering of millions of kids, and their parents, too. Even though we’ve reached a point where policies like this are needed, I know how humiliating and painful it can be to accept what seems like charity (even if it’s offered from a heartfelt place and you’re in desperation): I’ve seen and lived with the devastation, shame and frustration parents feel when they systemically can’t provide for their kids without help, so when all you have to show for that hard-fought-for help is a pittance worth of non-nutritious food for your hungry child, I do grasp how fucking disgusting that is. I’ve always been furious that this economy perpetuates an underclass that can’t access that most basic standard of living whilst the people in the houses of commons and lords who represent them live in luxury and ignorance, and I’m not blind to how much of a kick in the teeth this laissez faire “let them eat frubes” attitude is while they line their pockets.

I didn’t talk about this in my post, but that’s not because I don’t care, it’s because I didn’t feel I could add anything meaningful – it speaks for itself. I could write for hours about how cruel and Dickensian the Tories’ exploitation of the poor is, and how corrupt and damaging their shifty business affiliations are – not just this instance; sacrificing public health to funnel billions of pounds of taxpayers money to their buddies in corporations and contractors, that they knew couldn’t fulfil life-or-death PPE demands during a pandemic, or partnering with property developers to rush through shady deals in order to avoid adhering to impending safety standards reform or building quotas for social housing, etc. That would be derailing too, though.

You make a fair point. I didn’t intend to write so much, and the tone was completely off. I got kinda caught up in emotions, and after posting it I did feel uneasy - I edited out a part where I talk about growing up experiencing food poverty myself (because cooks, like so many other essential workers, are underpaid), exactly for your reasoning. While I can empathise with the experience of food insecurity, I know I can’t speak for people affected by this scandal specifically, so I didn’t try to.

I didn’t mean to “derail” the post (I have a small following and didn’t/don’t really expect my addition to be seen much) nor to minimise the problem. Just because I’m adding to the discussion with something it personally brings to mind doesn’t mean I’m demeaning the original statement - it doesn’t delete the original post, people are entirely able to reblog it from me and remove my caption - it also doesn’t mean I think what I’m adding is an any way contradictory or more important, just relevant. I wasn’t just trying to tell “a story about my mother” but trying to use her anecdotally to talk about school cooks in general, and I’d do the same if I had an unshared perspective on any other group of workers having to work extra hard to paper over the tories’ bullshit. I didn’t intend for it to be a “well actually” (though I respect it did end up reading like that), more like a “yes, and”.

As far as I can tell there’s 2 ways for the current FSM policy to work better outside of reform (and obviously getting rid of the problem of food poverty in the first place) - either giving the monetary vouchers directly in lieu of food (which in circumstances like OP’s post is what people are asking for) or, as “School Meals” is part and parcel of the policy, providing good meals from a school that are worth the money.

£30 worth of bulk-ordered cost-price ingredients, pre-cooked well by professionals in a fully kitted kitchen, with planning put into the nutrition of the meals available over the week, takes an enormous burden off parents. I neglected to mention, but the cooks also handwrite straightforward preparation instructions for the parents on how to reheat the meals (and even accompanying desserts). A large part of food insecurity is prevalence of unhealthy convenience food, and everything in our system discourages people to spend time and money on good meals. In the least judgemental way possible, I know many parents would spend a lot of that £30 on fast or frozen food, because the time-is-money ethos we live under incentivises you to do that. Many people have never had the time, money or opportunity to learn to cook good meals, and parents are understandably too exhausted to spend hours preparing food on top of caring for and home-teaching their kids during lockdown. If you can barely afford to put food in your fridge, it makes less sense to buy a wide variety of fresh perishable veg when you could buy cheap & filling processed instant foods or frozen foods etc, but an industrious kitchen mitigates this disincentive.

This shifts the role of school kitchens and their staff from just cooking meals during school to being more like a soup kitchen for hundreds of impoverished kids even out of term time - this requires cooks, which is a topic I can speak on when not many people can, hence my advocating for those cooks in a post where I talk about the strain put on them. If the policy was well managed and robust enough to properly feed kids nationwide, including the kids affected by the scumbag deals like OP’s post, that would place more workload on cooks who don’t have the means to fulfil even their current levels of production, let alone the added numbers currently tied up in contracts. I did get caught up in personal emotion, but my intention wasn’t to argue for hollow recognition for cooks, or my mum as an individual person (like people standing on their doorsteps clapping for the NHS while it underwent a crisis) - I’m trying to critique a different aspect of the policy’s implementation with regards to nationwide inconsistency, overworked staff, issues with stock orders, lack of structural support and problems with distribution.

I’m only talking about my mother because she’s my insight into this field - if literally anyone else worked in the same role and told me stories about hand opening hundreds of cans or writing instructions on hundreds of meals, I’d be writing about them, because if you’re going to talk critically about policies like FSM you need to acknowledge the apparatus required to actually make those policies function. Again, if you care about hungry children and are angry about this bs but want FSM to continue in a more functional way, you’re likely either arguing for the food to be replaced by monetary vouchers (which has the limitations I outlined above, and while monetary support is widely needed it at best eases the symptoms of underlying systemic poverty, and at worst could be misconstrued as a handout that makes the underlying poverty a non-issue), or for the government to meaningfully ensure these kids are provided for as implied by the policy (via school cooks), or for some combination of the two. So I think it’s quite relevant.

And yeah, maybe it doesn’t help anyone to discuss this! But it’s my blog and I want to talk about it, so I’m going to.

I'm gonna be honest, as far as Aku, evil overlord dictator of an empire that's dedicated to wiping out most if not all of humanity, you write him too mushy. He's supposed to be a sociopath, from what we see in the show, but you have him being shipped with like, a dozen people. You write him waaayy too nice. That being said, I suppose if you didn't, you would have very limited interaction with people, and you've written out "development" for him, but the point still stands that he's way too roman

What do you think about my interpretation? | accepting!

ooc ★ Before I get onto my response, I’d like to thank you for having the audacity to send this. I feel there’s this unhelpful idea in the rpc that people have to agree with everything you post; and to say you disagree with someone’s interpretation is often met with ferocious resistance. But when I reblog memes of this nature asking for opinions, I want the good and the bad. I AM always looking to improve, and to not take criticism when I so freely dish it would be hypocritical of me, I guess. ( For lack of a better word, right off the top of my head. )

I COULD put this under a cut, but I feel this is important enough to just let it sit out in the open. It’s something I’ve been thinking about a while.

That said, two things for you.

Firstly, I LOVE writing violence! In fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s in my top two favorite things to write, right beside slow-burn romance ( and particularly one-sided yearning ). However, while I used to jump at every opportunity to write violence, I can admit I’ve since slowed down a bit. Not only because I’ve gotten progressively less and less people coming to Aku trying to pick a fight with him, but also because I’ve come to feel that fight threads without a purpose to further the plot are repetitive and somewhat boring. It tends to be a lot of the same-old same-old; repetitive actions, repetitive imagery. And yes, while this is a significant piece of his character in the show, and I love exploring it even further and particularly pushing the bounds of his abilities, if it doesn’t serve a purpose in the greater scheme of a plot or an arc then... Why waste your time with it? And frankly this goes for all repetitive actions, like gratuitous sex and slice-of-life. If it doesn’t serve a purpose to write, such as say to kill an important enemy or fight a significant battle or even to maim a loved one when he’s not himself and bring down the angst hammer, then? Why.

Secondly, despite not wanting to write violence just for the sake of violence... I can admit I want some conflict over here. But that’s just the thing. In Aku’s main verse he’s samurai-less. I did this simply because the NUMEROUS Jack blogs there used to be have since become inactive, and if my initial intention with Aku’s blog almost from the very start was for him to kill a Jack and switch over to my Bad End universe, I can’t very well have Aku always worried about a ghostly, intangible threat that he can’t confront. And of all the Jack’s on this hellsite, of which I’ve written with and followed more than a few along the way, I can only name ONE which is still active. ( And another which followed me today, on that note, but they don’t have a rules nor an about page, so. ) ...But that first Jack I mentioned, @sonxflight, we don’t really write anymore. Nowadays Dari’s been more focused on fluff / romance threads, and I’ve been more interested in developing Aku’s mental health. Aku isn’t gonna go out of his way to confront a Jack that he views as not being his problem. Dari’s Jack isn’t the one from my Aku’s universe. Dari and I just kinda tag each other in dash memes and comment on one another’s posts once in a while; and that’s about the extent I see action from a Jack nowadays.

I would LOVE some more conflict on this blog! But I’m not going out of my way to find it if it doesn’t particularly serve to further my current plot— which is Aku’s eventual ascension to Godhood at the end of this year. And that’s another thing, if Aku himself doesn’t stand to gain anything from talking to someone, inciting a conflict, or being a dick to somebody, he’s pretty much going to keep his distance. He finds most people to be a waste of his time; and this is nothing against other RPers whom I love seeing on dash! Because lord knows I’d love to push him to interact with folks. But if Aku himself looks down his nose at most people and finds them not only boring but also boorishly stupid, then there’s not much else for it. He sees others that come to him for money, freedom, and other boons in exchange for their services as nothing more than cattle; and frequently this is how his meetings with new people go. Meeting others out in the field is the best way to get a truly organic and not copy-and-pasted interaction out of him. And even then, there’s still numerous factors which would predicate how such an encounter might go.

Because there’s not too much conflict on this blog for now, I’ve decided to take greater liberties with exploring shipping and platonic relationships also. But for those of you who have followed me for a while, who have seen me mention on more than one occasion that slice-of-life threads aren’t really my schtick, I can understand why you might be a bit confused. Well, allow me to explain: the reason I’ve chosen to place greater emphasis on these kinds of relationships lately is to preclude a little RP / character bleed mishap which happened recently and which impacted my enjoyment when writing as him and even just simply being on this blog. And by ‘recently’ I mean slowly, over a period of the past several months.

Aku’s entire arc with Rick demonstrated to both of us that he’s in an incredibly bad kind of headspace in regards to healthy relationships on this blog. In his universe with Rick, basically all his ties are a result of his relationship with Rick. Bill ( wildgcd, whose blog has since been deleted ) and Ashi ( @tigersteeth ) are both inactive, and have been for months +. They’re the only ones with whom Aku has a healthy relationship that isn’t directly tied to Rick in that universe, and as a result he tends to rely quite heavily on Rick for his social needs. So when Rick left him too, Aku’s abandonment issues reared their head. Unhelpfully, mun has a problem with abandonment amongst a slew of emotional / psychological problems quite similar in nature to the one’s Aku suffers from— albeit with a fun little mortal twist. 🤗 So I knew I needed to take action so I could comfortably be on his blog in the inevitability that Stephanie goes on hiatus again. Which is why I’m trying to focus a bit more on building more platonic and romantic relationships besides the ones with Rick and co. that way Aku has more people with whom to spend his time when Rick is away.

Furthermore, now that Jack’s out of the picture regardless of verse, Aku’s allowed himself to focus more on making friendships and forming attachments just in general. One of the reasons he tended not to do such before is because he felt that Jack would kill whomever he felt close to in an effort to get to him. In fact, he even shouted at Rick for daring to mention that he and Jack could possibly work together to build a future which would be brighter and better for everyone; because he felt certain that Rick would wind up being targeted by Jack to get to Aku.

He’s started going to therapy, also, to address long-held mistaken beliefs in himself, too. Beliefs which interfered with the relationships he had tried to foster with others; it was enough to frustrate him, when he let himself acknowledge such, and he knew he needed to sit down and talk with someone professionally if he didn’t exactly have friends around per se with whom he could talk. Also, I personally believe he chose not to do such before, because his very existence was hinged on destroying Jack so he could conquer the universe in peace without meeting resistance. While he knew he was unhappy and knew furthermore that he had some problems that needed addressing— and had even made a thin attempt to talk about such with himself in show canon as you recall— ultimately his mental well-being took second banana to making sure Jack was DEAD.

The therapy, coupled with his own slow internal journey, some perspective which was afforded to him during Rick’s absence, and some 4th wall Discord conversations has lent him valuable insight on the way he functions—and how Nightmare works too. Who, in many ways is just himself but with unchecked mental delusions and mistaken beliefs that had grown unchecked. He saw what had happened to Nightmare mentally, and didn’t want such a fate for himself. Hence the therapy and greater, braver attempts to let himself be closer to others.

Finally in the case of Bill and Nightmare... both of them take place in different universes, of course. Universes which in themselves were split just after the break up between Aku and Rick. Aku is still thoroughly alone in those universes, because again. He doesn't have Rick and all the people who were brought into his life as a result of his relationship with him. He’s at that point in his immortal life where he’d like to try his courage and test out the things he’d discovered about himself in therapy and in his personal self-explorations, and see about developing a relationship with someone with a fresh perspective with his recent failure as Rick’s partner in mind. Which is why he’s so amicable with them and trying to get to know them better. He wants to see what a healthy relationship, platonic or otherwise, developed on his own might be like.

However. I WILL acknowledge that Aku trying to make friends with people is ooc. It’s ALSO ooc for Aku to try fucking / romancing someone. There, I said it.

But you know why that is? It’s because that facet of his character was never explored in canon, even in all the comics, games, and the addition of the 5th season in 2017. So I suppose you could say that if I were to play him absolutely true to his canon material he’d only ever be a fucking mauling, mutilating, destroying, force of nature. Which yes, he still is despite my writing him how I do with a greater emphasis here lately on developing relationships with other characters. I ask you: isn’t the whole point of RP to develop dynamics and explore facets of a character that canon neglected? I could do fight threads all day, boy; but please ask yourself: how much would that really serve to further my interpretation and understanding of him, if at that point I’m just rehashing canon fights with a fresh coat of paint and different enemies? Whereas platonic and romantic relationships are a thoroughly headcanon and character-development heavy area for a character like Aku, who hasn’t had a single friendship or romantic relationship in his canon media.

And if you’d like cliff notes, rp examples of him being fucking EVIL, and links to evil headcanons I have you’re more than welcome to send a second ask asking for said information. But I think I’ve already given you plenty to think about and read, unless you’re some kind of masochist and want to torture yourself more with reading my self-absorbed and self-assured opinion. Thanks for making it this far, here’s your consolation prize.

TL;DR: Canon already gives me fights for days, boy. And while I thoroughly enjoy writing fight threads, they tend to be repetitive and exhausting if they’re not serving a purpose in a plot arc. Whereas things like interpersonal relationships for a character like Aku, who did not see such development in his canon media, is full of things to explore. And ultimately that’s what RP is about, exploring facets of a character which canon doesn’t explore for you. Once again, thank you for asking, and I hope this answers your question. I can provide examples for everything cited above, as well as fight threads and evil moments abound if you’d like. Furthermore, if there’s anything I do in RP which confuses you or which you feel is ooc, I invite you to jump in my askbox again with further questions. My Own MBTI Test (Yes, You Can Call It JJ’s MBTI Test)

Usually, I only use this account for SU purposes. However, I don’t have any other ideas as to where to post this other than my own website I don’t have the time or mental wherewithal to create as of now, and I really don’t want it hanging around in my docs in the chance of being deleted.

Basically, I made this due to the idea that MBTI tests you can find on the Internet tend to be clunky and long. Sure, they allow for variety, which allows for complexity in discerning your personality, but this also makes for what can be a frustratingly long experience. That being said, because of this test’s binary nature, it may not be completely accurate. However, it will make an attempt to distinguish both your general MBTI type and your specific composition of each of the four letters. As usual, let me know if you find anything wrong with the test.

Without further ado, let’s begin. For ease of taking the test, you can copy and paste, open a new post, and then bold what applies to you before reblogging it. Make sure to credit me.

General (this is used to obtain your type. Because of the binary nature of types, you must pick the one that most closely applies to you).

It’s been a long, mind-numbing, draining day at work. Your friends call and ask you to join them for a night on the town, with them covering all the costs. What do you say?

A: “No, thank you!”. Then, you settle in for a nice night of watching movies, eating comfort food, and having a hot bath. (Introvert)

For example, if you, in that ENFJ example, circle A 3 times and B 7 times, then your introvert/extrovert composition would be 30% introverted, 70% extroverted. (Note: If you choose 5 and 5, don’t automatically assume you’re an ambivert. True ambiverts are in fact incredibly rare, and you’re better off going with what you chose on good ol’ question 10 to determine whether or not you’re an introvert or an extrovert. You just swing very slightly that way and may have ambiverted functions, that’s all. In addition, pure introverts and pure extroverts are incredibly rare, which means that if you circled 10 on either side, you’re probably closer to being 95-99% of one or the other instead of 100%. Bottom line: everyone has some introversion and some extroversion.)

Hey! I saw your post where you said you have anxiety and guilt issues when it comes to reblogging donation posts, and I was wondering if you had any tips on how to cope with it? It’s something I struggle with too and I had no idea it happened to other people! Also please don’t feel pressured to answer, I can always talk to my therapist, I was just interested in hearing from someone who also experiences it. I hope you’re having a good day! 💙

Hi! It definitely happens to other people I know, and I’m sorry you struggle with this too!

I wish I had more tips than I do, tbh, but one thing that helps me a lot is having a pre-written reply for when people DM me asking to reblog donation posts. Like so: “Hi, I’m glad you reached out! Unfortunately, donation posts make me feel increased guilt and for that reason, I would rather not reblog it. I hope you understand, and I wish you the best of luck ❤"

That way, you don’t have to put yourself through typing a reply every time, which can be distressing. And yes, I’m aware I don’t owe anyone the personal information I include in that sample reply, but... anxiety be like that, sometimes, and it tells me that if I don’t give them an explanation I’m a horrible person, and I spiral, which is exactly what I’m trying to avoid. Of course, everyone is different, so if you’re scared of getting DMs like this I really recommend writing your own sample reply on your phone notes or somewhere else handy where you can copy and paste it :)

This also applies to asks, though depending on my mood and mental stability I might just not reply to those; especially if they’re anon. It’s easier for me to ignore asks because Tumblr has a tendency to eat asks anyway, so I can always tell myself the person probably thought I didn’t receive it, or just forgot about it after a while because they can’t see it sitting there, unlike with DMs.

As for seeing the posts on my dash, I have blacklisted the tag #donations, which a lot of people use for donation posts. I’ve also blacklisted #guilt tripping, even though that doesn’t usually help XD but hey, there’s always the possibility that someone will tag a guilt-tripping post as such someday and spare me the anxiety attack, so why not!

Also, if the same donation post is crossing your dash again and again and it’s not properly tagged for you to blacklist its tags, you can always block the OP of the post! That way you won’t see their original posts on your dash even if someone you follow reblogs them 😎

And, lastly, even though this applies mostly to other types of Tumblr posts that aren’t donation posts: if someone I follow consistently reblogs posts that have additions of the likes of “if you can’t reblog this unfollow me” or “I don’t care what your blog aesthetic is, you need to reblog this” or “X group of people won’t reblog this post because they just don’t care”, I’ll unfollow them. Like, I’m sorry, but I don’t have the time or the energy to keep reminding myself that I’m not a horrible person for not reblogging random stuff to my blog in my free time. Some people come to Tumblr to evade themselves from the world’s problems, or at least from some of them, and we don’t owe anyone an explanation as to why we don’t reblog something even though we agree with it. I wish more people understood this.

I hope some of this helps! Please remember that you never, under any circumstances HAVE TO reblog or reply to a single thing that makes you uncomfortable and that having a sample reply is something that helps me, personally, but if you’d rather delete those DMs as soon as you see them so you never have to think about them again, that is absolutely valid. You are allowed to set your boundaries and tell yourself “no, my boundary is THIS and I’m not letting this post step over it”. And you definitely never, ever owe anyone money just because they’re struggling!

However, Bucky loves Steve, bordering on obsessively. Whether it’s platonic, romantic, or completely one-sided pining is up to plotting and muse chemistry.

James is incredibly anxious about dealing with Steve for many reasons, and more anxious about the possibility of infringing on Bucky’s territory.

It is one of few ships that will require Bucky’s active participation if you want James involved, because James will refuse Steve otherwise.

Specific to Peppers: Tony cares ( depending on point in time, deeply ) for her, but I will not expect a ship and it must be plotted out.

They could be exes, almosts, currently dating, platonically attached, whatever we would like! But it must be plotted.

specifically for Janes: I do not automatically lead with fosterson! My default is somewhere between slow burn infatuation or mutual, friendly separation. Thor adores her in any type of relationship though, and supports her endeavors and enthusiasms

For Bucky and James, dating one of them does not mean you have to be dating the other.

It would be marginally easier depending on time and verse tho

Specifically for Natashas: I include the generality of James being at the Red Room, but we must plot about including the affair or not. It is not my default canon.

if we are defaulting to winterwidow, James is the one most familiar with her, not Bucky. James was the fronting personality when they originally met, and Bucky’s recollection of events will be hazy if present at all.

If you want to ship Nat with Bucky, it must be plotted and must account for the prior/continuing relationship with James

For Sharon, she has no romantic interest in men ( yes including Steve ).

if she ends up with a comics-inclined verse this may change but will still require heavy plotting.

November 2018 Pond LiveChat Recap

We had a great time chatting with Rhi, @kittenofdoomage!!! Thank you so much for joining us!

We talked about getting readers, interacting with readers, and how Tumblr has made it more and more difficult with their changes for new writers to get noticed. Details from our discussion with Rhi under the cut, as well as notes on what we’re working on in the Pond!

Q: Do you wait until you are done writing a series before you begin posting, or do you post as you write?

I wait until I'm done writing a series. At some point, the idea will catch me and I have to write the entire thing, which will take about three days. Editing for another 1-2 depending on my betas and then it gets released in its entirety on Patreon (my patrons like reading the entire fic in one go, they're paying for it so I'm not gonna make 'em wait) and comes out in chapters on Tumblr about three-four weeks later. I hate feeling like I'm making people wait too long and then shit happens like it did with three of my permanently hiatused fics.

Q: Well, as for why we're here, Rhi, you get so many asks every day. How do you have such involved readers?

A lot of my readers who respond are regulars. I have those who pop up with the odd "this is awesome" and those who will write long involved reviews which I love!

Q: Do you think there's anything in particular that you do that encourages people to interact with you?

Yeah, I'm open with people and pretty approachable. I like discussing things, plot points, characters, anything really. There are very few things that trigger me, too. I have only three specific things that will turn me away from a fic. I think my lack of triggers helps with people who need someone like that to talk to.

Q: Do you ever ask around and try to figure out what people are looking to read to try and help boost your reader count or do you just draw inspiration from your own ideas?

At the moment, I'm mostly working on commissions, so it's other people's ideas. I'm lucky that most of my Patrons and commissioners are very patient with me and know up front that I have no specific time limits. I will write it but I can't force it. And I won't force it because that leaves everyone with a shit story.I never put an idea away forever though. I write them all down. If inspiration hits for something, I write it there and then because I never know if I'll get that mojo back.

Q: Has there ever been an Idea that has caught you by surprise when you start it as one thing but it ends up as something else?

Only about six thousand times.

Over The Hills And Far Away that I'm writing now, was supposed to only be a Dean x reader but my reader decided to go and have chemistry with Sam too.

Q: Have you noticed a bump in followers after you do anything specific?

I always have a bump in followers after Sinful Sunday. Unfortunately, I always end up with a bump in unsolicited dick pics and porn bots, too, so a purge usually follows. When I post new characters or fandoms, too. I've recently picked up a bunch of Marvel followers.

Q: As a big blog, you must also get some hate. How do you deal with that?

They don't like me because I play with them and their insults are like water off a duck's back with me. Unless they bring my kid into it. I shut an entire set of blogs down when that happened. That's also why I no longer post anything to do with my daughter. I will avoid using her name wherever possible. If I'm in a bad mood, I ignore it. If I'm feeling like an utter bitch, I'll tear them a new asshole.

Q: Rhi, it sounds like you have a lot on your plate with family, work, and writing. Is there anything in particular that keeps your creativity flowing so you don't burn out?

I try and do something different every day. Painting, gaming, going for a walk - it's important for me not to spend all my time on one thing. Even if it's just cleaning. I also listen to a lot of music - Classic Rock on Absolute Radio is my fav. Actually, my favorite time to think about fics is when I'm about to go to sleep.

Q: I'm not sure how to even ask this, but I came into the spn fic fandom a little late and so I'm finding it difficult to gather new followers. Do you have any advice? I have a master post with the few pieces I've written but I've gotten a lot of flack for writing OCs...

Tumblr is not helping with regards to gaining new followers lately. Tags aren't working if you're an NSFW blog, no one can search anything. The only thing I can suggest is reblogging, asking other authors if they'll read your work.

[Other suggestions from the chat included submitting fics to @dirtysupernaturalimagines and the Pond, joining other people’s writing challenges (The Pond’s S14 Challenge is here, @thing-you-do-with-that-thing is always running challenges, and @mrswhozeewhatsis has a tag #writing challenge on her blog). Also, “Tumblr loves porn” and the fandom loves Dean, in particular, so writing more Dean smut will get you more readers. Just adding “Dean x Reader” to the tags, even if the relationship is barely mentioned, will get you more readers. Sam will get you the same result, but to a lesser extent. Rhi got bigger writing ABO fics, and carved out a niche for herself with them to the point she’s considered the ABO expert in reader insert fics. Another tip was to strip OC’s of names and defining physical features, since OC’s don’t get a lot of love. Many “Y/N”’s are actually just OC’s without a name. Also, if you’re writing a story that will eventually have smut, list “eventual smut” in the tags.]

Q: Random question: a bunch of us smaller blogs have noticed a drop in reblogs over the last year or so, and I'd be curious to know if, as a bigger blog, you've seen anything like this as well?

Absolutely. A year ago I was getting about 10-20k notes a day. Now, if I hit a thousand, it's a good day and I'm expecting to take a massive hit because of Sinful Sunday, if they don't entirely delete my blog.

Q: Does anyone have any idea why the notes have all dropped so much? Is it a glitch in notes? People being more apprehensive to reblog nsfw things because of all the nsfw fear going on?

Community responses: The posts with outside links not showing up in searches is related to bots and porn blogs that only reblog posts to add a link to a sketchy outside web page. Several months ago, though, Tumblr started the “best stuff first” algorithm (which can be turned off in your dashboard settings, but not everyone knows this), and that pushed posts with few notes to the bottom of the dashboard feed. Since you never really get to the bottom, those posts never get seen. Tags and reblogs to build up note counts are the only way to combat this. Now, messing with the search functions means that there will be no new readers without blogs that just reblog fics, like the Pond and @dirtysupernaturalimagines and such.

Would you like some Pie?

Such a question may not mean much, heck I dont expect anyone to really get it, but it holds a bit of a special place in my mind. it was the first ask I ever sent on this site to an ask blog, followed up immeditaly with a pie to the face if they said yes.That was about seven years ago now. and its a bit saddening to see most of it potentionally go up in smoke in a few hours I’ve seen the vast majority of ups and down this sight has had, from the humble beginings of missing e to the yahoo buyout, and all the memes inbetween and beyond. I’ve seen the dumb and pointless additions to the lay out, (Fan Mail anyone?) and I’ve lived through the removal of a feature to try and fix something (Editable reblogs, good times) Yet I’ve always stuck through with this place, Knowing at the very least everyone will for the most part still be here. Its not just the techincall side that I’ve seen. The Touhou Rp Scene in particular I’ve seen Rise and fall a few times here. Starting all the way back with Art Ask Blogs like Askudonge, ask-kogasa, askmisskurodani, who ever did that one Flan Okuu joke fusion, Chenkari, and a good number of others. Heck its thanks to them that I finally figured out what Touhou actually was aside from a few of the few meme songs I found on Youtube and the Nico Nico Douga Melodys, and I’ll always be thankful for that. There were only a few really active ones and I showed up more towards the end of their run but I still managed to get a few asks in and have them answered. Even as they faded away and their artist moved on some still remained for a while longer, like Gensokyo-posts, before they to moved on, Leaving Mima-sama the last ghost standing in the void that is the dying art blog style. As the art blogs slowly came to an end, the RP scene bloomed, kind of like an evolution of the art blogs, just loosing the pictures and gaining more words. It was here that I truly found a home on this sight. I wanna say that I was part of the founding members of the Touhou Rp scene here as a result, but even then there were others before me, Like Geizt’s Yuuka, Dark’s Eirin, Dreamer’s Mokou, Wally’s Parsee, Amber’s Satori and Eri, Xana’s Marisa and Plop Snek, knowledge-and-shadow’s Patchouli, Sat’s Parsee, Volo’s... Volo. Daichi’s Ackness, Ritter’s Ritterness, I saw them and started interacting with them, getting a taste for Rping and enjoying it. Its thanks to Geizt’s Yuuka in particular that Cirno’s blog here even exists, as it was an off shoot of this weird rp involving Fairies going up to people and blowing themselves up. (Dont look for it, the idea is there but its not the best executed. I was new, cut me some slack) From there Cirno herself for a long where was a part of alot of the stuff going on around the Touhou rp scene here. From what I can remember and still find, alot of people enjoyed her cheerful attatude and her habit of just bringing a smile to people’s faces even get a good number of laughs as well. She made friends, a few rivals, even helped solve many issues of the dreaded affliction known as Heat. It was fun to just set her loose out in the world and see what would happen. Even as I to slowly stopped updating as much I still saw the rp verse on the dash, Cirno still piping in every now and again to just have some fun. Cirno grew into more than just a simple fairy for me, I guess she was the last part of my child like creativity still being active, enjoying the simple things in life and making the most out of what was dealt to her. I honestly can say she helped me get through a few rough years of my life while attending college. just something I can go to and find enjoyment in.when trying to compose myself. And I’ll forever thank her, and this blog for that. I guess that brings us to what will happen soon, the 17th purge. I honestly dont think Cirno will be deleted, anot alot to say that was bad on here, and I didnt plan on leaving when I heard the news, so I’ll still be around here letting Cirno poke her head into things and bring some more fun back to the world, but given the algorithems, who knows what may happen. In the worst case scenario and she is deleted, I just wantted to say that it has been a honor being on this site with you all, and getting to experience its best years with you all. I wish you all a wonderful life and thank you for all the Memories. Just remember, if anyone asks you if you want pie, remember to duck if you answer yes. You’re Truely, FrozenFairy. Frozen-mun.

Summary: Post-game AU, all surviving trolls have made it back to Alternia (which, although battered, is still inhabited). Kanaya, about a sweep or so after their session, begins keeping a notebook log of her interactions with the highblood Gamzee Makara, who has grown so confused by his past actions he has gone into seclusion.

Day Fifteen.

He says that he sees me as someone who just wants to help, in no quadrant or anything. Just a close friend. This quells my worries somewhat. Not yet exactly into the custodian slot though, but it is not like I have been a custodian my entire life.

Sometimes I read over what I have already written and I start to wonder what I have gotten myself into. When I tried to confront Karkat or Terezi about post-Veil feelings and actions they were so much different than Gamzee. I feel as if I am performing some sort of psychological breakdown on everything he does, and I did not come here to do that, did I?

Maybe I did. I cannot even remember what exactly I thought when I decided I would meet with the most elusive member of our group, I read over my first few entries and I almost want to say I seem horribly dry and professional about the whole matter. Granted, I would not wish to have my feelings splayed all over the metaphorical table when I entered his hive, no – if he is so shaky about how he actually feels then having another individual fretting along would not be for the best – but I maybe should not have been so quick to usurp my position in this. I should not have abruptly stepped into this and stated, Gamzee, I am your surrogate lusus, now accept me so you will not be some sort of distressed loner. This must be why he was still so quiet over my first week… Of course, that coupled with his own inner demons that I am still so curious about would have made him rather silent.

These past few entries I’ve been worrying and worrying, haven’t I? I am talking myself into circles!

I do not even look into any sort of psychology and I can tell he’s more scared than anything. He has not just toned down on his clown thing, he has discarded it completely. Without his slime he is not mad unless he is in withdrawal – without it now he is simply blank. Yes, he admitted he was starting anew, from scratch, but I think he doesn’t know how to start. Karkat’s text on screen is not enough of a jumpstart and now that I am here he may cling to me for dear life because he is so scared of the outside! He has nothing left to him anymore. He’s as old as I am and has nothing to occupy his time other than to think, and, as a highblood, his thoughts are so outright negative and damaging to himself (since he is without purpose) and oh my god where and I going with this. Nowhere. I feel as if I am spouting nonsense!!

I miss the old Gamzee. I miss how he could spot detail and lose himself in every little thing, how he could seem so carefree and was just some sort of simple boy. I know that it was only because of the slime that made him forget and become so lax. I know that because of that slime he ignored himself. I know that because he ignored himself, without slime he burst forth in the worst way. I know that it would only hurt him if he went back to being like that, so lax and silly and stupid he did not care about his own emotional and mental well being at all.

This is getting to me too much, I want to say. But I do want him to be happy. He is like a son some days that I visit, and like a brother another, and occasionally he is but a good friend. But either way I want him to be happy.

There are much too many problems here.

What have I gotten myself into, indeed!

Day Seventeen.

I am very hungry. Again.

And again he has become like a temptation. When he sat with me, to tell me what was on his mind, all I could keep my eyes on was his neck. His neck and the arteries inside of it and he would flick his wrists upwards and I would see the veins in his wrists and then he would try and laugh and stick out that indigo tongue of his and all I would do was fold my hands in my lap and nod.

I still cannot hurt him, no matter what. He is getting stronger but he is still so weak. I cannot hurt him.

What if I just wrote “I cannot hurt him” for a few pages? As if that was the only thing on my mind. I don’t know. Everything I wrote yesterday is so remarkably silly. I will have to cross it out. I absolutely hate tearing out pages from such a good notebook. On that note the above is silly too.

Alright that was a lot of crossing out. I need to stop fretting. My fretting is getting in the way of what I was to use this notebook for, which was to chronicle his achievements, not the two of us and our problems. I have been ignoring all of the good things that have happened!

He has been laughing and smiling more and more, as he greets me with a soft smile every day. He still tells me of his nightmares, yes, but he also tells me more. He tells me that the foods I grow and make for him are delicious, and that he appreciates me grooming his soft hair and helping his wounds heal. His wounds do not even need bandages anymore, although they have left such a garish mark on his face still. These compliments quite flatter me, in which case he will say that I look like a sort of glowing insect and do another soft chuckle. I am happy he is trying to put on a smile again.

He has grown much closer to me. I believe now he sees me as… not a custodian, but just a general caregiver. He will ask me to do small things that he finds comforting for him – which involve grooming his hair, for example – and he will slowly begin to go more into detail about his thoughts for the day. I am also trying to not only focus on the things he mentions in passing, as his small conversational topics are growing less dreary by the day. As he sits on the floor while I sit on the couch as I brush his hair and we talk, he leaned his head back on my knee today and looked up at me. Although his face still looks somewhat hollow and lonely, he gave me a smile, and he asked I pet his hair, and of course I obliged.

A caregiver. He is growing so fond of me and it pleases me greatly. I almost feel… relaxed when I am around him. Then I chuckle and look at all those nasty hunks of pen that I marked out, which I had all written at my own hive, and think he might just have a relaxing aura about him. At least, whenever he is content.

Also: Yes, I did feed today. In fact I just did before I wrote the above brighter section. I feel much better, bloodlust does so bring down ones ability to write. That is all.

Day Eighteen.

While he is still quite skinny, Gamzee has become a lot healthier physically. He has gotten a tad thicker, but only slightly, as I am pretty sure he’s always been straw-thin, and he eats like any other troll now. He seems to have a particular taste for sweets and junk food still, and he adores meat (soon I might just have to bring live cluckbeasts to him, he eats so much!), and he seems to not really like fruits or vegetables now. He sees them as always too bland, not sweet enough, or too sour. I sometimes find it hilarious that, now that he’s been given steady, proper meals every day, he’s gone from nibbling to outright devouring. Then again, he is going through a maturing phase, maybe he will turn out to be a healthier, strong, tall highblood after all.

He still finds it comforting when I groom and pet through his hair. Why this is, I do not know, it might because his lusus would do the same for him when he was younger, even though I am not so driven for this role that I’ll use claws (hooves? Did his lusus have hooves?) or my tongue (which is so disgusting, even my mothergrub used her claws). I always use the same brush, a rather soft one of my own, and I use my fingertips, and that’s enough.

He leaned his head back onto my lap again today. Maybe he finds it funny to look at me upside-down because he always smiles a little and laughs when he does that. I take note that he does this because it is the only time during my visits that he seems less uptight and he actually tries to enjoy himself – when I first arrive and I feed him he is mostly silent and his eyes are downcast. But, when I sit with him, he is much more eager to talk, especially when I mess with his hair (as I’ve already said). His hair is remarkably soft, so I don’t mind, even if I occasionally get one of a fingers caught in a stray curl or snag while I’m grooming and petting him. If he was still on sopor he would probably tell me without a second thought that him having soft hair while living like such a slob is a miracle.

Mentioning that, during those days where I wrote such idiotic entries in here that I just cancelled them out, I tried to clean up his hive. I was only able to clean up his respiteblock, bathroom, and kitchen area, but it was a start. He seemed quite relieved to have his old makeup finally out of his sight, and I should not have been surprised by the amount of trash I found within his nest in his respiteblock. But there I was, pulling away sheet after sheet of quilted nesting material and finding empty tuberchip bags and bits of plastic and even a few dirty pieces of clothing. How could anyone sleep in that at all!

What is a Reverse Big Bang?

A Reverse Big Bang is literally a reverse of the Big Bang challenges you may have come across in the past (such as Hobbit Big Bang, for example). The participating artists create a piece of art, which is posted anonymously for authors to view and claim. The authors will then write a fic based on the art they chose.

What kind of artwork/story is eligible?

Hobbit, Silm, LotR, HoME, whatever takes your fancy, be it movies or book-canon ;)

This challenge is open to all characters, genres and ratings, as long as there is a clear link to Tolkien’s mythos.

OCs are welcome, although crossovers are not currently permitted.

We are not setting any restrictions on content, but please work with your artist/author to ensure that the fic turns out well for both sides; refer back to the individual’s Do-Not’s and Must-Haves before you decide to claim a piece of art!

If you create a NSFW piece of art for the Preview, we will put a SFW crop in the Preview with a link to the NSFW version.

Because this challenge is open to and inclusive of all Tolkien characters and ships, we would like to remind all participants that absolutely no shipshaming or kinkshaming will be tolerated.

What’s a checkpoint? They’re something to give you a feel on where a typical artist and/or author should or could be at in their creation process. They’re used for encouragement and motivation only. The last author checkpoint is mandatory and for us to determine what art pieces we need to find pinch hitters for. Any author who does not check in then (or if they can’t make it lets us know why) will be dropped from the challenge and a pinch hitter assigned to the art prompt. What should my art draft look like for Preview? It should be the equivalent of about 75% of your final artwork. That’s hard to measure, of course – basically it does not need to be a finished piece but it should give the author wanting to claim your art a good idea of what it will look like.

Time should go into it, this piece will be what the author bases their story on.

What should my rough draft look like for the Final Checkpoint? It needs to be at least 4,000 words, or 80% of your fic. You do not need to have your fic finished by this time however, you may still work on it and get it beta-read until your final fic and art is due. We just need to be able to reasonably verify that you are going to be able to finish your fic by the due date.

How will I contact my artist/author? We will provide an author with contact information once they are committed to an artist(email/tumblr/other - artists choose their preferred communications method when they submit their art for Preview). From there it is up to the author to communicate with the artist and create a story that would fit the art.

How do I sign up? Sign-ups for the 2018 fest open on May 1, you can sign up via forms linked on the @tolkienrsb blog.

FAQ from Artists

Art encompasses (but is not limited to) drawn or painted artwork (both traditional and digital), comics, and digital manips. Craft is welcome as long as the final piece can be photographed and submitted to us via email as an image. If you have an unconventional idea for your artwork, please email the mods at tolkienrsb at gmail dot com to discuss.

Artists may submit up to 3 separate pieces of art for this challenge to be claimed separately by 3 different authors. Alternatively, artists may choose to submit one piece for the preview and create more pieces as the collab continues - whichever best suits the story you and your partner want to tell!

Can I draw anything I like? Basically, yes. However, bear in mind that you are creating something to inspire a writer. Is there an AU or a headcanon you’d love to see explored? Give your author as much information as you can in your art to capture their imagination. Just as with a Big Bang when authors try to make their summary as enticing to artists as possible, you have the opportunity to inspire a writer with your idea and to have them write a fic specifically for the art you create.

What about nudity/ships/kinks? Bring them. Go wild. Ship it (you know you want to). This is basically your party (and we know we have some kinky writers out there, so you might find a kindred soul for yours ;) )

Bear in mind that if you DO create an NSFW piece of art as your prompt, we will put a SFW crop in the Preview and link a full version hosted on Mod Raiy’s private Imgur account for the duration of the Preview Weekend.

Do I have to finish my art before Previews? No, but submitted artwork should be at least 75% done. We know that can be tough to gauge with art; the main thing is to post a draft with enough detail that authors can clearly make out what’s going on in your artwork.

Art is only to be completed before the posting date (this means you have all the weeks of writing to finish it - or to make more art or sunbathe or however you’d like to spend time this summer).

Can I create a crossover or fusion piece? No, we feel Tolkien’s works are a large enough sandbox for this first round – perhaps in future we will open for true fusions/crossovers.

NB: THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU CAN’T DO AU’s!

What happens if the number of authors doesn’t match up with the number of artists? We will do several rounds of claiming so that EVERY piece of art has a fic in the event that the art pieces outnumber fanfiction writers. If it’s the other way, we may open up the pieces of art so that more than one fic writer is assigned to the same piece of art. Either way, everyone who wants to participate will get to participate.

Will my art be archived anywhere? No, we will only post your art in our Preview document, which will be deleted by the end of the TRSB18 event.

NB: Art pieces created for this challenge are NOT TO BE POSTED ANYWHERE ELSE before story posting takes place.

How will art claims work? Art will be posted anonymously to a Members Only, View Only private presentation document. Each piece will be numbered and accompanied by additional information supplied by the artist so authors will have plenty of time to peruse and choose their preferences. See Submission Info to see what info the artists will submit, and see Claims Info for how claims will work.

FAQ from Authors

After claiming takes place, authors will have approximately 10 weeks to write a story with a minimum of 5,000 words. The fic must be original, complete, and related to the claimed art for which it is written.

We strongly recommend that the fic is beta-read, either by the artist or a third party to reduce errors.

Do I get more than one piece of art to work with? That’s up to your artist, though we encourage our teams to collaborate throughout the process in whatever manner they see fit. There is no obligation for your artist to create additional art unless they wish to; before you begin writing, have a chat with your artist about interpretations of the artwork - bear in mind that elements of the artwork must feature in your fic.

What if the artist’s OTP is my nOTP/squicks me? Then you shouldn’t pick that piece of art on your claims form. Elements in the artwork need to be present in your story - this means that if there is a pairing specifically shown or suggested, then that is the pairing you are claiming and promising to write for. We also encourage you to discuss any squicks before you start writing and respect each other’s Do Not Wants. (Key word here being “respect” - it should go without saying, but we will not tolerate shipshaming, kinkshaming, flaming or other hurtful behaviour.)

What type of requirements are there for a fic? You will be expected to write a fic with a minimum of 5,000 words, based on the prompt you choose in the Art Claims post. Claims will be first come, first serve. Beta-reading is strongly advised.

How do I know what art I’m writing for? / How do I make a claim? When the artists turn in their rough drafts, we’ll make an Art Preview. Signed up authors will be emailed a link to view the Art Preview and have a couple of days to think about their favourites. Then we will open the Claims Form where you will rank your choices by preference and we will match authors with claims on a first come first served basis.

I’ve already been writing a fic - can I use that one? No. The fic you write must be based around the art you choose, using that as your prompt.

What if my [character] doesn’t look like my artist’s [character]? Then you should probably have chosen a different piece of art ;) As the entire idea of this fest is to use a piece of art as a prompt, discarding the artist’s vision for your own is pretty bad form. Pick art you like/agree with!

What genres/warnings are allowed? You may write/create art for whichever genre of fic you choose, as well as any rating as long as your artist is comfortable with it. Remember, you’re creating the fic around the art and the artist’s original vision.

Can I write with someone else? No, only one person may write. You may use your artist as a sparring partner or utilise the services of a beta reader(which we strongly recommend all authors do), but your story should be yours.

Will my fic be archived anywhere? No, where the story is posted will be up to the author. We will create/reblog MasterPosts to DW and Tumblr, but the location of your fic is entirely up to you.

How does posting work? Each author/artist team nominates their preferred posting day within the last week of August. Each team of author/artist is required to post on their assigned date to the platform of their choice(DW/Tumblr/AO3/ Other).

Each team will also be required to create a masterpost of their collaboration on Tumblr(no matter how they choose to post), including a summary and links to wherever they’ve posted their work.

If you do not have a DW account when it comes to posting time, just email your links/information details to a mod at [email protected] and we will make the post to the DW community for you.

Each Tumblr MasterPost will be reblogged via @tolkienrsb to give each team the maximum exposure we can give on their day of posting. Round-ups of all the works created for the Tolkien RSB18 will be posted here too.

Addition due to "Tumblr uses strings in its tags with no escapes to keep them functional as quiet commentary" reasons.

To start: I do not condone, agree with, support, or have anything positive to say about what the original poster said. I don't view them as a victim to save, they earned their criticism and that is what I've seen from the people I follow. I didn't read the original post because I'm pretty sure they either deleted it or buried it and don't care enough about the specifics of their bigotry to scroll more.

In theory, I have better things to do.

But! I'm struggling to hold the chains of the rabid dogs of discourse and anxiety in my brain, so... this is the meat they're chewing on so they don't eat up the rest of my day instead. Let's talk Controversy.

When someone shows the whole world their ass like this is to go "oh" then "unfollow" then "block".

For yourself, it solves the problem of accidentally supporting a bigot and it nips that person's ability to fuck with you at the root.

For others and the OP: you're not adding fuel to the fire of controversy.

I'm assuming this person is small potatoes, maybe 100 to 200 followers, maybe participates in a few of the event days or something. I'm also assuming that a percentage of writeblr wasn't like... reblogging this post in agreement. If so, I follow the right people because I didn't see that at all.

When someone who is small potatoes shows their whole ass like that, it's best to starve the controversy.

Yes, yes. I know! It's important to inform others that that person's ass stinks! Discourse, for how stressful it is, is somewhat fun and cathartic! It gives us all a chance to flex our position in the community! Criticism is also the strongest, polite way to tell someone "No! Bad ass!" and shake a newspaper at them! Venting is an all-important way of getting rid of the stress and frustration absorbed from dealing with seeing people show off their asses! If they're someone who's actually generally a good person and is just being stupid, they'll know what they said was wrong and apologize!

All of these are good and valid. But, like eating an entire birthday cake after a break up, it does little to actually solve the problem and might make you feel sick afterwards.

Negativity spreads far farther than positivity and it's because our stupid, human brainmeats are stupid and human. (Also, something something the way that bigoted/right-leaning communities work vs. the way the progressive/left-leaning communities work and how it is a billion times easier to unite in fear/hatred than it is to unite in understanding/tolerance.)

Starving the controversy does a few things:

It reduces the amount of discourse on your dash and reduces the number of times you're going to see OP's ass.

If OP decides to go nuclear, you're not gonna end up in their cross-hairs (and you've already blocked them).

It reduces the number of total eyes on OP's ass.

OP can't use the controversy to cry victim and gain support for showing their ass and getting criticized for it.

Doesn't give OP the chance to dig their heels in and make their ass do tricks. They're forced to sit with their ignorant thoughts in relative silence.

It prevents OP from actually affecting opinions in the larger community and moving its Overton Window.

Feeding the controversy has a decent chance of letting their ass run amok and also lets other asses know who to support and nurture so the overall herd can grow.

In conclusion: I have no sympathy for OP, showing your ass just tells me who to block and who I'd disagree with. Yes, discourse and controversy are important especially with large topics and issues. But, it's an attention engine and can completely backfire on us when the person at the center is otherwise inconsequential. No, I don't even think this entire discourse is going to change anything.

As I said, this whole thing is for the rabid discourse and anxiety braindogs.

In regards to today's discourse:
