What's 'bierasure'?

Techy definition (i.e. pulled from Wikipedia) is: Bisexual erasure or bisexual invisibility is the tendency to ignore, remove, falsify, or reexplain evidence of bisexuality in history, academia, the news media, and other primary sources. In its most extreme form, bisexual erasure can include the belief that bisexuality does not exist. 

I’d take that definition and push it further, though. It’s when Hollyoaks ran a storyline where a boy was in love with a girl and a boy and never used the word bisexual, because he had to choose a side. It’s when the tabloids talk about Angelina Jolie’s ‘lesbian phase’, it’s when Cynthia Nixon says, on film, that she prefers to identify as a lesbian because nobody likes bisexuals, it’s when The L Word - so fucking important to so many queer girls - said that bisexuals don’t exist and left no place for us. It’s when papers suggest Miley Cyrus was ‘going through a phase’ and thank goodness she’s married to a man and is straight now. It’s when Anna Paquin had to explain that marrying a man didn’t make her any less bisexual on live television. It’s when I look to queer cinema and find no place for me there, unless I’m the punchline or the person not to be trusted. It’s when I read queer theory and bisexuals are never mentioned unless it’s connected to the spreading of ‘disease’, it’s when I have to sit through lecture from a person archiving LGBT history (pretty big deal) and find Virginia Woolf in the ‘lesbian’ section because ‘they haven’t got round to the bi stuff yet’ and I burst into tears because it fucking hurts. 

That’s what bierasure is to me. A small handful of examples, but sadly not the only ones. How does it feel? It hurts. So fucking much.
