The time was 2:35AM, and Katsuki Bakugo had still not returned to his shared home with his partner Izuku Midoriya, who waited in pure worry on their sofa, gnawing at his nails in the tense, dark silence of his home.
His attention was immediately snapped to the familiar tune of the front door opening, and he rushed to it in an instant, "Kacchan! Where were you? I was so worried!" He made a move to engulf his lover into a tight hug, but was promptly pushed away with a gentle shove.
"Let me get through the door first Deku, damn." Bakugo grumbled in tired, quiet tone.
With some awkward stiffness, Deku lowered his arms, and stood waiting for Bakugo to take his shoes off in silence.
When he'd finally kicked them off, he moved past Deku without even so much as looking at him, leaving the poor man standing there confused and ever so slightly hurt by his lack of action.
Sure he was used to Bakugo's coldness, he'd been dealing with it for decades, but his behavior was throwing him off tonight as it was a contrast to his not so recent change in attitude to his no longer just childhood friend.
"Kacchan..?" He called after him, following just a few feet after.
Bakugo stopped with an annoyed sigh, having just taken his jacket off, "Jesus, what now Deku?" He turned to face him.
Deku frowned, "I just.. wanted to know where you were? This is very late for you Kacchan," he glanced at the clock again, "I was worried.." His voice got quieter as Bakugo's tone made him rethink his worry and mistake it for overthinking.
"Yeah, well I didn't ask you to worry did I? And I don't need to tell you where I am every five minutes." He rolled his eyes.
"No, that's not what I'm saying-"
"My God can you just leave me the fuck alone?! You're so damn annoying, I just want to lie down and sleep and you're keeping me standing here with all your damn stupid questions!" He ran a frustrated hand through his spikes and turned to face a stunned Deku who dawned an offended frown.
"What the hell Kacchan?! Why're you yelling at me like I did something wrong?!" He laid a hand over his thumping heart as he took a step closer.
"'Cause you won't shut the fuck up!.. I swear, shit for hair would've never pushed me this fucking far." He curses the last part under his breath, but Deku hears it.
"Are you serious? Is that what your attitude is about? Kirishima? What, you wish it was him here instead of me?" Deku looks at Bakugo accusingly, causing another tired sigh.
"No- that's not what I said." He rolled his eyes again.
"But it's what you meant and feel right?"
"Dammit, you're putting words in my mouth, asshole!"
"I bet he was who you were out with, huh." Deku looks down and speaks with a significantly lower voice, an ever so slight tremble in his shoulders.
"Yes! Okay? I was! Happy?!" Bakugo gives in, waving his arms dramatically with emphasis.
"You've spent time with him every day for the past two weeks, Kacchan! You never make time for me! It's always him!" Deku felt tears gathering in his eyes, and felt all the more pathetic.
"Oh here we go again.. I already told you- I'm allowed to make time for him, he's my best friend!"
"And I'm your boyfriend! Maybe you should date him instead if you're that infatuated with him!" Their argument had turned into an all out screaming match, Deku could feel himself crumbling with each word that left either of their mouths. Not too long ago, they'd seemed perfect, the 'it' couple of all of their friends. But in recent weeks, with Bakugo seemingly choosing Kirishima over his own boyfriend, it had put quite a strain on their relationship, and Deku's resolve as a whole. All going unnoticed by Bakugo himself.
"Maybe I will." A sly smirk spread across Bakugo's face, "Maybe that's what I've already been doing these past weeks. Going to his house and fucking him stupid-"
A sharp punch to his jaw shut him up, and effectively landed him on his ass.
With wide surprised eyes, and a hand cupping his quickly bruising jaw, Bakugo looked up to see Deku panting, tears streaming feverishly down his cheeks. His own eyes were wide and glowing an ever so slight greenish blue, the familiar electric effects of OFA scattering weakly around his shaking body and balled fists.
Through sharp breaths and in an almost deadly quiet voice, he voiced, "I really hate you Kacchan." And without giving the blond any time to respond, he was out of the front door at a speed only his quirk could give.
In the silence of his now empty home and the sting of his swollen jaw, Bakugo was able to feel the settle of realization from his giant fuck up.
