I want to live by myself when I move out of my parent's place but I'm really afraid of money problems? I'm afraid that the only place I can afford will be in the ghetto and it'll all be torn apart and I'll only be allowed to eat one granola bar a week. I'm really stressing out about this. Once you’ve looked over all those cool links, I have some general advice for you on how you can have some sort of support system going for you:

Reasons to move out of home

You may decide to leave home for many different reasons, including:

wishing to live independently

location difficulties – for example, the need to move closer to university

conflict with your parents

being asked to leave by your parents.

Issues to consider when moving out of home

It’s common to be a little unsure when you make a decision like leaving home. You may choose to move, but find that you face problems you didn’t anticipate, such as:

Unreadiness – you may find you are not quite ready to handle all the responsibilities.

Money worries – bills including rent, utilities like gas and electricity and the cost of groceries may catch you by surprise, especially if you are used to your parents providing for everything. Debt may become an issue.

Flatmate problems – issues such as paying bills on time, sharing housework equally, friends who never pay board, but stay anyway, and lifestyle incompatibilities (such as a non-drug-user flatting with a drug user) may result in hostilities and arguments.

Your parents may be worried

Think about how your parents may be feeling and talk with them if they are worried about you. Most parents want their children to be happy and independent, but they might be concerned about a lot of different things. For example:

They may worry that you are not ready.

They may be sad because they will miss you.

They may think you shouldn’t leave home until you are married or have bought a house.

They may be concerned about the people you have chosen to live with.

Reassure your parents that you will keep in touch and visit regularly. Try to leave on a positive note. Hopefully, they are happy about your plans and support your decision.

Tips for a successful move

Tips include:

Don’t make a rash decision – consider the situation carefully. Are you ready to live independently? Do you make enough money to support yourself? Are you moving out for the right reasons?

Draw up a realistic budget – don’t forget to include ‘hidden’ expenses such as the property’s security deposit or bond (usually four weeks’ rent), connection fees for utilities, and home and contents insurance.

Communicate – avoid misunderstandings, hostilities and arguments by talking openly and respectfully about your concerns with flatmates and parents. Make sure you’re open to their point of view too – getting along is a two-way street.

Keep in touch – talk to your parents about regular home visits: for example, having Sunday night dinner together every week.

Work out acceptable behaviour – if your parents don’t like your flatmate(s), find out why. It is usually the behaviour rather than the person that causes offence (for example, swearing or smoking). Out of respect for your parents, ask your flatmate(s) to be on their best behaviour when your parents visit and do the same for them.

Ask for help – if things are becoming difficult, don’t be too proud to ask your parents for help. They have a lot of life experience.

If your family home does not provide support

Not everyone who leaves home can return home or ask their parents for help in times of trouble. If you have been thrown out of home or left home to escape abuse or conflict, you may be too young or unprepared to cope.

If you are a fostered child, you will have to leave the state-care system when you turn 18, but you may not be ready to make the sudden transition to independence.

If you need support, help is available from a range of community and government organisations. Assistance includes emergency accommodation and food vouchers. If you can’t call your parents or foster parents, call one of the associations below for information, advice and assistance.

Things to remember

Try to solve any problems before you leave home. Don’t leave because of a fight or other family difficulty if you can possibly avoid it.

When Cas is killed off in 15x18, what annoys me the most is how pointless and lazy it will be. Because honestly how else can they kill him off?

He’s died holding off an attack to buy more time

He died in the final confrontation with the big bad.

He’s died as a result of a reckless choice he made for the greater good stopping an apocalypse.

He’s killed sat his weakest, just as help gets there.

He’s killed just when you think things are safe, for shock value.

He’s been killed off in AU’s for humour

To show how dark things are

He’s even killed himself

And let his son kill him.

So what fresh exciting take on this old, boring, predictable, played out situation are the writers going to come up with this time.

I saw your tags on the post about fic recs where you said some of your favorite fics don't have many kudos, so I gotta ask--would you mind making some Jeff/Annie recs? :)

(I found the original ask! It was hiding way back in my drafts.😊)

Communication in Romantic Verse (1,848 words) by @wordybee is one of my all-time favorite fics (S2/3-ish + Jeff + Annie + poetry = Annie being utterly confident and Jeff being completely flustered? YES PLEASE) and it doesn’t have nearly as many kudos as it deserves. Everything Deb writes is fantastic and I rec all her stories, but this one is definitely my fave.

this beast that you’re after (1,530 words) by @catty-words (cori_the_bloody on AO3) is actually one chapter of a collection of JA one-shots, an episode tag for G.I. Jeff. I love it so freaking much that I’ve left sixteen comments on it over the years. Here is part of one of those comments: You know how there are those fics that you just LOVE and they don’t have very many kudos or comments, and you think, ‘why is everyone sleeping on this fic, it’s AMAZING and everyone in this fandom should know it by heart?’ This is like the prototypical everyone-should-appreciate-this-more fic for me.

You Got Growin’ Up To Do (25,942 words) by @hello-wright-or-wrong (wright-or-wrong on FF.net, wright_or_wrong on AO3) - I think this is the only Community fic that Jennifer hasn’t put on AO3 yet, which means it’s a little lesser-known than her other fics, I think. But it’s delightful and features one of my all-time favorite Annie characterizations, and some excellent Annie-and-Britta friendship and Annie-and-Troy friendship.

Sebastian (1,266 words) by @celerylapel - This is a short, sweet, fluffy post-S6 fic about Jeff and Annie’s future family. It’s the kind of fic that makes me want to hug myself, that I read when I’m feeling low and need a burst of happiness. (Bless you for writing it, Liza!)

community 7x06: introduction to extraterrestrial relations by @dollsome-does-tumblr: My favorite episode of Community that wasn’t actually an episode of Community. And my favorite fic that isn’t exactly a fic. :)

turn the world upside down (3,809 words) by @stopthenrewind: I guess this one does have quite a few kudos but it’s an older fic so I don’t know if it gets as much love, but it’s beautifully written and I just like it a lot. (And here’s a J/A fic rec list Jamey wrote a while back, if you haven’t seen that yet.)

I Thought I Could Fly Alone (I Can’t Even Get Off the Ground) (2,360 words) by @itsactuallycorrine: This is really a Frankie-centric fic with some background J/A, but IT’S SO GOOD AND SO BEAUTIFULLY CHARACTERIZED, it makes me cry and miss Greendale so much every time I read it. 

I will add here that ALL of Corrine’s Community fic is really excellent. I particularly love the fic about Troy writing stories about his Greendale friends while he’s sailing around the world because he misses them so much: (When I’m Not With You) I Just Don’t Know What to Do (3,822 words). BUCKETS OF HAPPY TEARS, and also sad tears because I miss Troy Barnes.

Thanks for getting involved in our love life (that was super cool and mature of you) (1,374 words) by @catty-words​: READ IT NOW. It’s a hilarious, cracky 6.13 fix-it. :D

Everybody Knows (109,439 words) by @jeffwik: I mentioned Jeff’s fic​ to you before, but I will specifically rec this one because it’s such an interesting Jeff-centric take on what happens immediately after Annie goes to DC. When he learns Annie won’t be returning to Greendale in the fall after all, Jeff takes dramatic steps in an attempt to move on. (Spoiler alert: it doesn’t work.)

Here This Whole Time (119,884 words) also by @jeffwik​: This is a fantastic Season 4 AU. It’s JA-centric, but it’s really about the whole study group, and it reads like episodes of the show. Seriously, it’s like the S4 of Community we should have gotten but didn’t. The second half of the story (it was originally published in two parts) is more JA- and Annie-centric than the first half. Really, all of the Community fic Jeff has written is fantastic, and I recommend it.

Autonomic Cardiac Responses to Aural Stimuli (2,024 words) by @pepperf​: I actually prompted this one! I was driving down the road one day singing along with an 80s power ballad playing on the radio, when it occurred to me that Jeff Winger is the same age as me, and he would have the same adolescent, first-love associations with songs like Extreme’s “More Than Words” or Bon Jovi’s “I’ll Be There For You.” The idea of Jeff Winger hearing a cheesy power ballad and immediately, against his will, thinking of Annie Edison just made me laugh SO MUCH, so of course I shared that idea with Pepper and this fic was the result. :D (The record will show that I love everything Pepper writes, but this is her Community fic with the least kudos so I’m reccing it, and telling you to read everything else she’s written.)

All I want to say is this: whether this was Oliver’s final stand or he comes back to play his actual “destined” role in Crisis, I truly disagree with the notion that his series should end with his death.

From the moment we meet Oliver, his experience on Lian Yu has been central to shaping him. His pivotal entrance to his life of vigilantism was the death of his father and the final word Robert imparted on him.

“Survive.”

We spent season after season watching Oliver do just that, even when he thought that was all he was doing. Get back to Starling (eventually). Right his family’s wrongs. Probably die in the process.

Then we watched him put a team together. Open up. Find causes and people he wanted to live for.

But he resisted, internalizing the notion that there was only one way his story would end.

We accepted that the narrative presented him as wrong for that belief, that it was something he had to learn to see past. That he could learn to be a hero and have a future. He could be Oliver Queen and the Green Arrow.

Even as he lost people over and over again, testing his resolve, he learned he could have a chance to not only save his city but to complete his first and most crucial mission: “Survive.”

And, more importantly, he wanted to. Diggle told Oliver to fight to live, and he learned to do just that over years of hard work and sacrifice.

Does it make sense that Oliver Queen would sacrifice himself in a heartbeat for his friends and loved ones and billions of innocent people? Absolutely. Many would argue it’s a hero’s death.

But in my opinion, it betrays the core of the show. Oliver’s journey was always about becoming a hero, and he is one now. But, at the heart of the show, there was always another message. Another core theme.

Fight to live.

Survive.

Waiting - post 15x01 drabble

It had been a long day.

Castiel watched as Dean hurriedly unlocked the bunker door before storming inside. The loud bangs of his footsteps reverberated around the bunker as he stomped down the stairs. He noticed Sam closing his eyes, only for a second, before following after his brother. His steps were quieter, as if trying to make up for his brother’s noise.

Castiel sighed before following.

The two brothers didn’t speak as soon as they touched down on the ground floor. Dean went straight for the kitchen, probably on his way to find the nearest bottle of whiskey. Castiel didn’t miss his laser focused path, refusing to make eye contact with anyone. Refusing to make eye contact with him.

Sam, at least, set his bag down on the table. His shoulders sagged, the weight of the day crashing down on him finally. Castiel had a fleeting thought of setting his hand on those shoulders, as if he could heal the pain away. But he knew no amount of angel grace could heal what they had lost.

“I’m gonna go to bed, okay?” Sam muttered, giving him a weak smile.

Castiel nodded. “Goodnight.”

And with that, Sam walked away. And Castiel was left in the ringing silence.

Logically, Castiel knew he shouldn’t feel things the way humans do. There was no reason for the hollow ache in his chest or the tightening in his lungs. He was an angel. He was built to be stoic and unemotional.

But the silence. The silence they hadn’t felt in so long.

Jack is supposed to be here, Castiel thought wildly.

He is supposed to be HERE.

Right now, Jack would be asking Cas if he wanted to watch TV. Or play a game of chess. Castiel had been teaching him chess. It had been their way of bonding. In between moves, they would talk about everything. About the wonders of life. The way of death. The family they shared.

And now they would never have that again.

Castiel faintly felt himself sinking into a chair. His eyes burned. But nothing fell.

He stared at the empty chair in front of him. And waited for sunrise.

Kudos: anthfan’s stories were some of the first I read in this fandom, and WOW what a high bar she set. Those of you who know me know that I tend to prefer canon-related stories to AUs (well okay, more recently I have begun to love AUs too, but canon-related will ALWAYS own me), and anthfan just hits that pitch-perfect spot of great storytelling - intriguing twists, heartfelt scenes, perfect characterization, and ANGST - OH, THE ANGST - while still remaining in that familiar Arrow universe we all know and love. And nowhere does she shine as well as when she’s taking well-known tropes and giving them a uniquely Olicity twist. Devil’s Backbone remains my favorite Olicity fic of all time (probably!), but truthfully I wish I could read every one of these stories over and over again for the first time.

Bonus Kudos: I thought the first chapter of Dust to Dust would actually kill me, but it proved itself to be clever and badass and witty and FUN! Olicity Tropetastic Awards: Season Five
