mgs4 is far from my favorite metal gear game but i do really appreciate how it canonizes that solid snake has been in some kind of domestic living situation with another man (for NINE YEARS) who he’s raising a kid with. and this is just. never acknowledged in any way by the story or the characters. and the other man in question is the dude from mgs1 who pisses his pants while crying and then introduces himself as “otaku convention”

I find Bloodfiends extremely interesting in a way that they don't actually need blood to survive. But they act as if life has no value if they can't drink it.

And yet, with the example of Don Quixote and Sancho, we know that it can be different.

My favorite examples of fictional vampires are Regis from Witcher and Maladict and Otto from Discworld because in this stories authors explore vampirism not as a horrible uncontrollable need, but an addiction that they can defeat. I just feel it's more interesting

And I think that it's the same concept with Bloodfiends. They don't need blood to survive, but it's an easy source of joy. That's kinda why Don Quixote's idea failed. He confronted bloodlust as a physiological need and not psychological. He and Sancho traveled around the world exploring new it and finding new sources of joy and excitement. They have a reason to wait for "tomorrow," you can say. Other Bloodfiends weren't given any way of finding joy in their life, and that's why they wished for blood so horribly.

"Addiction is a progressive narrowing of the things that bring you pleasure. Happiness is a progressive expansion of the things that bring you pleasure. The former emerges passively. The latter takes work."

And now Don relearns to find joy in life from her amnesiac existence, expanding her horizons purposefully.

And that's why I think she won't drink blood in a future.
