SOLID Architecture in Slices not Layers - Jimmy Bogard from NDC Conferences on Vimeo.
For too long we've lived under the tyranny of n-tier architectures. Building systems with complicated abstractions, needless indirection and more mocks in our tests than a comedy special. But there is a better way - thinking in terms of architectures of vertical slices instead horizontal layers. Once we embrace slices over layers, we open ourselves to a new, simpler architecture, changing how we build, organize and deploy systems.

NAIRIAN: Our Facilities from Nairian on Vimeo.
Nairian lives thanks to a team of early risers. Our day begins among the flowering fields of Armenia’s highlands, where we grow the majority of our ingredients.
It's true that beauty comes from within. At Nairian, we control the quality of our ingredients by growing the greater part of them on our sustainable and pesticide-free farm. What we cannot produce ourselves, we source from local growers. In fact, 70% of our ingredients are gathered from within a 100km radius of our facilities.
Our ingredients are of the highest quality because they grow in the Highlands of Armenia, which━thanks to their altitude, clean environment, and abundance of sunlight━yield aromatic, medicinal plants that are rich with vitamins and healing essential oils. All Nairian products include essential oils that are derived from our harvest, and distilled within our facilities at Aragyugh, a village in Armenia's Kotayk region.
Whether it’s our farm in the countryside, scientific lab, or chic showrooms located throughout downtown Yerevan, all of Nairian’s facilities operate on the same values of respecting nature while promoting health and well-being.

Lumino City - Official Trailer from State of Play on Vimeo.
Lumino City is a puzzle adventure game out now on Steam for PC & Mac store.steampowered.com/app/205020/ developed by State of Play. Three years in the making, it's handmade entirely out of paper, card, miniature lights and motors.
Sequel to the award-winning game Lume, Lumino City begins where that game left off. Begin by exploring the city, and using your ingenuity piece together all sorts of puzzling mechanisms to help the people who live in its unique world. Discover gardens in the sky, towers marooned high on an immense waterwheel, and houses dug precariously into cliffs.
To create the environment, a ten foot high model city was built by hand and by laser cutter, with each motor and light wired up individually, bringing the scenes to luminous life.

moment | night timelapse of yerevan from Lumen Cinematography on Vimeo.
The pace of urban life sometimes is too quick. The moments often pass us by like trees on the highway. But we keep forgetting that we and no one else is responsible for applying the brakes.
Maybe it is time to let someone remind us that we should stop from time to time. We should stop to thoroughly live all these moments that just slide unnoticed. They slide the way they do in this time-lapse video filmed in Yerevan. One complete year passes in front of our eyes in nearly 4 minutes. It's scary to even think that almost the same usually happens in real life too.
56 non-identical scenes were chosen, 15480 images were captured, 5246 out of those were edited to just help us remember to stop periodically to fully and completely live all the moments, because sometimes moments stun us as they happen and only then we realize that some instants are more than fleeting images.

Philip Roberts: Help, I'm stuck in an event-loop. from Neo (UK) on Vimeo.
Us JavaScript programmers like to use words like, "event-loop", "non-blocking", "callback", "asynchronous", "single-threaded" and "concurrency".
We say things like "don't block the event loop", "make sure your code runs at 60 frames-per-second", "well of course, it won't work, that function is an asynchronous callback!"
If you're anything like me, you nod and agree, as if it's all obvious, even though you don't actually know what the words mean; and yet, finding good explanations of how JavaScript actually _works_ isn't all that easy, so let's learn!
With some handy visualisations, and fun hacks, let's get an intuitive understanding of what happens when JavaScript runs. Beginner or veteran, I'm sure you'll learn something!
