Here's what's gonna happen. You're gonna take 4 russet potatoes. You're gonna peel them and dice them. You're gonna set them in a bowl of cold water so they don't oxidize. Then you're gonna cook a half pound of bacon until crispy and set it aside. You're gonna melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a dutch oven. No more, no less. Add some diced onion and garlic to that. Saute it for a couple minutes. Then you're gonna add 4 tablespoons of flour and make a roux. You're gonna add 3 cups of milk to the roux. Slowly. Don't get in a hurry. Then add 3 cups of chicken stock. Add plenty of salt and pepper. Bring it to a boil. Add your potatoes in. Let that simmer for 20 minutes. Then you're gonna add some sour cream, the chopped up bacon from earlier, and some grated cheddar. You're gonna stir that together for 5 minutes. And then garnish it with a little green onion and shredded cheddar. You got it?

people think taking things literally is just like
not getting jokes and sarcasm
when in my experience it's more like
thinking you have to fulfill 100% of the exact requirements for something, when everyone else apparently knows it's actually a bit flexible
answering rhetorical questions and everyone thinking you're stupid
SAYING something with a literal meaning and others interpreting it figuratively
following instructions to a T but not knowing how to modify them if something goes wrong
wait that song was talking about WHAT??
doing EXACTLY what someone asked of you and them getting mad that it wasn't what they meant or actually wanted
being terrified of people's empty threats or hyperbole without realizing they didn't actually mean it
memorizing all the connotations of different words so you can use them as precisely as possible, getting frustrated when others are inexact
still not getting jokes and sarcasm

Any suggestions for showing that a neighborhood is unfriendly to nazis and fascists? I covered up some swastika graffiti in a nearby park recently, and would like to make sure the neighborhood conveys a hostility towards facists.
First of all, this is a great & low-key antifascist action that has more impact that it might appear to at first. Making it abundantly clear to fascists that they are in a no-go zone that is openly hostile to their bigotry and violence does a few things. For one, it of course tells them they're going to meet opposition in the area and would be wise to move the fuck along. For another, it tells the kinds of people fascists like to target for harassment and violence that there are people in the neighbourhood that have their backs and will stand up to defend them. Finally, it lets other antifascists in the area know that there are allies very nearby - hopefully ones they can connect with to coordinate efforts.
Tumblr media
So do the thing! Make some posters or artwork and put 'em up! Get your local graffiti writers to get pieces up!
Tumblr media
Make a banner and do a banner drop - here's how! If you lack artistic skills/friends, we have these lovely antifascist stickers we'd be happy to send you in exchange for a wee donation to The International Anti-Fascist Defence Fund + postage costs:
Tumblr media
You can get those here and also here! All that said, it is best to check local laws to ensure that you're compliant before going on and doing stuff. Also, take some common-sense security precautions & stay safe!

tumblr guide for new users:
1) there is no algorithm for your dashboard. can't stress this enough. your dashboard is in chronological order of posts and reblogs from people you follow. "based on your likes!" is a joke and they removed that feature in a week
2) because of the lack of algorithm, likes do nothing. if you want more people to see a post, you have to reblog it so it goes on your follower's dashes
3) the vast majority of posts on a person's blog tend to be reblogs. think 90% or so. some of those will have that person commenting on it, and more will have tags
4) comments stay on reblog chains, while tags only show up on your reblog of that post. it's kind of like a whisper voice. in either case, both op and the person you reblogged from see that in their notifications
5) tags don't go in the body of the post. writing "staying in #lasvegas" won't make it appear in the las vegas tag, it'll just look weird
6) it's totally normal to reblog and post multiple things in one day. it's normal to reblog the same post twice in a row. it's normal to have 100 posts+reblogs in a day. post limit (the total number of original posts and reblogs) for a single day is 250. you heard me. 250. go hog fucking wild
7) it defaults to having a visible likes tab on your blog (but only on your blog, not the dashboard) but most people toggle it off
8) "tumblr clout" is a fucking joke. no one can see your follower count, and no one makes money here. there are no influencers. enjoy not giving a shit about maintaining a public persona. it's all anonymous and your employers won't find you here

LPT: Don't throw your junk mail away. Use it to to help the USPS instead!
Next time you get a credit card offer in the mail, or a junk piece of mail that includes a prepaid envelope or postcard, don't throw it away! Send the envelope back with a blank sheet of paper inside, or don't fill the postcard out, but still send it back. The company that sent it to you had to pay the USPS for postage on each one they get back. This is a way to support the USPS by doing very little, and sticking it to the annoying companies that want all of your money.

comforting a lover after a nightmare
“ babe, wake up. “
“ you okay? “
“ i had a nightmare. “
“ you’re safe... “
“ are you awake? “
“ you woke up screaming. “
“ i need a minute. “
“ it just felt so… real. “
“ wanna talk about it? “
“ i’m here, okay? “
“ it's the third one this week. are you sure everything's okay? “
“ just hold me. “
“ you almost rolled out of bed, hit your head. caught you last second. “
“ will you stay up with me? “
“ it's just a bad dream. “
“ please don’t go back to sleep just yet. “
“ want me to spray the monster under the bed? “ “ “
“ can i stay with you? i had a really bad dream. “
“ here, take my hand. “
“ you kicked me... “
“ it’s just a bad dream. “
“ hey, look at me. look at me. it’s not real. “
“ wake up! “
“ i can't breathe... “
“ c'mere. lay with me. “
“ hey… are you crying? “
“ i'm glad you're here. “
“ hey, what’s wrong? “
“ let’s stay up for a while. “
“ this is so embarrassing... “
“ i woke up screaming? “
“ probably woke the entire neighborhood... “
“ you wanna tell me [about your dream]? “
“ it was like a horror movie... “
“ you good to go to sleep? “
“ i’ll stay up with you. “
“ i had a really crazy dream. like... really crazy. “
“ i think i’m gonna stay up for a while. make sure you're okay. “
“ you’re crushing my hand. “
“ hey, calm down. calm down. you’re okay. “
“ i’m going back to sleep, but don't hesitate to wake me if you need anything. “

Writing Prompt #1879
I cupped a hand around her sleeping face, content to just sit and watch her in a brief moment of peace.
"I love you," I whispered, knowing she couldn't hear me. "I love you so, so much."

Temple rings in Russian women’s costumes, 14 century.
Temple rings (temporal rings) were part of Slavic, Scandinavian and others’ medieval women’s dress. Most were made of base metals such as copper alloys or iron, though silver and even gold were occasionally used. These were known as temple rings because they were worn on the head, near the temples of a woman or a girl.
Temple rings were characteristic decorations of Slavic women. Different tribes had their own designs and they were made out of various metals. The rings were attached to a string that became part of a headdress or they were woven directly into braids of hair.
