I recently picked up fallout 3 again because I need some catharsis in my time of mental and emotional pain (having to jump through the 5 million hoops needed to run it on windows 10). I forgot how much I love that game and how much fun I have while doing the exact same route every single time.
I also haven’t been active on tumblr in forever...I don’t even know what’s going on anymore. Is this fandom still kicking?
(I should preface that the mental and emotional pain is only partly caused by the unnecessary struggle it is to play this game on new operating systems.)
I haven’t drawn Leona in almost two or three years. I love my Lone Wanderer.

When some pre-war vault dweller blows up your airship and a majority of your forces die and now you gotta explain to the survivors why you thought going on a genocidal crusade hundreds of miles away from home was a good idea

Lone Wanderer: You need them to think you’re stronger than you actually are
Butch: That’s what you do?
Lone Wanderer: Me? Oh no. My power is no illusion. I can fucking demolish you.

I’ve never pictured a gen 3 nick as a pretty boy. I’ve always pictured him much like this.
Tumblr media
This picture is labeled “nick valentine is a babe.jpg” in my folder. It’s been this long and I still love the toaster. One of the biggest things I’ve been agonizing over is just what the hell I’m gonna do with him in my most recent fic, because I know I want to do SOMETHING.
Anyone who thinks his gen 3/human self would be a stereotypical prettyboy can meet me in the pit.

what's the "Bethesda Creation Club"?
it’s a crude oak shillelagh todd uses to bludgeon employees who utter the word “obsidian” in his presence

Oh, but if Kasumi Nakano was merely a teenager going through emotional upheaval and not really a synth, imagine how common this thing could be.
Like, alienated teenagers dropping in regularly in Acadia. They run away from home because their parents don’t understand them, so of course this must mean they AREN’T REALLY their parents, and the teenagers are convinced they must be synths!
And some are like Kasumi, they like Acadia, but eventually they start missing their parents and go back home. And other don’t really like Acadia that much, and go home as well. Some, though, really do have shitty home lives. They have abusive parents, or too many siblings with not enough food to go around, or they are orphans or homeless. And they do anything they can do get to Far Harbor and insist they are synths, and they convince themselves that maybe it isn’t even really a lie; they could be synths as far as they know, it’s not like there’s a test (oh god, there’s no test, is there? They can’t send me back–!) But they need a roof over their head and a safe place to sleep and at least the promise of food, so they’ll do it.
And once in a while, some hard-eyed adult comes in search of them, comes to take them back. Chase always handles the situation, and nobody’s sure what she does, exactly, but none of the runaways are ever dragged away against their will. Sometimes, a kinder adult comes, someone worried and fearful, and DiMA handles the situation then, helping talk out a solution.
And of course, once in a while one of the denizens of Acadia is going to be super exasperated with all these damn kids and be all
“DiMA, the Institute’s been gone for 50 years, these kids are obviously not synths”
And DiMA’s going to be like, “Shh, it’s fine. Just leave them, it’s fine,” because he secretly has a soft spot for all these confused kids.

Maybe scary raiders, feral ghouls, deathclaws and supermutants are already a daily occurrences in the Wasteland, but it doesn’t mean people can’t get a little festive. It’s Halloween! Time for everyone to dress up and go trick or treating! For the rest of the month, people can do a piece featuring their Fallout OCs and/or canon characters, and place them under a common tag to share their own work and see what everyone else has done!
This includes (and is not limited to):
People dressing up their OCs or canon characters as something from the Fallout canon (Nuka Girl, Texas Red, The Arizona Ranger, Silver Shroud and so.)
People dressing up their OCs or canon character as something outside of canon (Other games and media)
Dressing up your OCs as your favourite canon characters from the universe.
Sharing with us funny or scary stories and misadventures that may or may not be canon to the Fallout universe.
Things put in the tag can include:
Writing (short stories in/out of canon, ect.)
Screenshots relating to wasteland halloween
Drawings
Comics
Edits
Please note to be respectful to your fellow participants and tag everything appropriately, and try to not stray too far from SFW territory because minors will likely be participating!
Your works can be submitted directly to this blog, you can tag us in your art with the @ feature or simply tag this post with the tag below so we can reblog it on here. The tag to submit your wasteland Halloween celebrations to is:
#wastelandhalloween2k17 !
Happy Halloween!

Questions About Creating Your OCs
‘Cause sometimes the stories of how OCs come to be are just as interesting as the OCs, themselves. Tell me how your virtual kids came into the world.
What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?
Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind?
How did you choose their name?
In developing their backstory, what elements of the world they live in played the most influential parts?
Is there any significance behind their hair color?
Is there any significance behind their eye color?
Is there any significance behind their height?
What (if anything) do you relate to within their character/story?
Are they based off of you, in some way?
If they have an LI, how much of their character is tailored to be compatible to that person?
Did you know what the OC’s sexuality would be at the time of their creation?
What have you found to be most difficult about creating art for your OC (any form of art: writing, drawing, edits, etc.)?
How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all?
If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be?
What is something about your OC can make you laugh?
What is something about your OC can make you cry?
Is there some element you regret adding to your OC or their story?
What is the most recent thing you’ve discovered about your OC?
What is your favorite fact about your OC?

He doesn’t look like it, but Deacon is surprisingly strong. Running all over the Commonwealth for the Railroad keeps him in ridiculous shape. He’s really only outpaced by Sole, whose “gotta find my son” travels did the same to them.
